Curve Struck

Rate this book
Melanie Archer moved to L.A. to pursue her dream of becoming a top costume designer.  Slowly, she's working her way up as a wardrobe girl helping whiny starlets and pompous, blowhard leading males strap in.

Declan Bain may be a leading actor and a certified prima donna, but dressing his lean, muscular body is the only perk to her current gig.

Unfortunately, the job is up before things can get interesting. Or so Melanie thinks until she is summoned home and arrives to discover two men present who have no business being in the home of her quiet librarian mother. One is a complete stranger to Melanie, the other is all too recently familiar.

Melanie finds herself more than a little star struck.

Declan's definitely curve struck.

Will their new relationship lead to a match made in Hollywood, Heaven or Hell No!?

Personally, I feel like this is one of those cases where it could have been a great book - but there some points that were very much lacking.

Unfortunately, the biggest issue I had was Declan. Not Declan himself, but what little information we got of him. Things were only ever revealed out of absolute necessity. There was no casual, easy conversation where we found things out just for the hell of it. We found out a bit about him, but there was a lot of unanswered questions about his previous behaviour towards Melanie. Why was he such an ass to her for the first few months they were working together? What was he really thinking in certain situations? The back story between the two main characters was lacking a lot of explanation to quell my curiosity.

Even when things started to occur between the two, he gave minimal answers with any explanations. And the amount of times that they 'had to talk' and then never did got infuriating. Declans presence seemed lacking during the story - especially as the majority of if all happened while Melanie was staying with him in his house. Honestly, how is he not present for nearly all of the book? He seemed to only show up when there was a lull in the story.

Not having Declans POV brought this down for me. A lot of times I wish I knew either what he was thinking, or previously thought when it came to certain situations. There was occasional a one sentence response and that was it. While the relationship between Melanie and Declan was cute, it felt to 'surface' level. I wanted to delve deeper into what it was about Melanie that made Declan like her at first. But I'm still left wondering. I just wanted more dammit!

Meh. Just . . . meh.

That dildo scene was definitely the scene for the book! Everything this book lacked was picked up with that one scene.

And this book lacked — a lot.

There was a bit of a taboo here with Melanie being a plus size person and crushing on a celebrity. That whole "they're too pretty for me and I'm just fat" thing. Meanwhile, Declan has had a crush on her the entire time also. Naturally, Melanie doesn't completely believe it.

A lot of this story I didn't even follow along with because I just couldn't follow along. I felt icky about Declan. Not 100% sure why, but I started to feel like he might've just had a chub fetish.

I feel like this could've gone in the right direction with the bigger girl gets the guy troupe but it fell short for me.

This book just blew me away!

First of all, I loved the connection between Declan and Melanie. They start out as enemies, only because neither thinks they're good enough for the other and they both have extensive reasons to suspect the other's motives. The chemistry is hot, hot, hot, but the obstacles are sky-high and getting over them gives this story a poignancy and depth that few authors can achieve.

Then we glide into the relationship part and find the odds are even more stacked against them as the public nails the plus-sized Melanie for aspiring to love the Hollywood golden boy. They're forced to deal with cyber-bullying, doxxing, stalking paparazzi, as well as a couple of people who have a personal vendetta against both Melanie and Declan, all the while trying to figure out the implications of her mother's connection to his newly-discovered uncle.

This isn't a light and fluffy romance, as the external conflicts soon pale in comparison to the internal ones. Declan's history is filled with pain and heartache, which adds layers of both conflict and understanding to his feelings for Melanie. The writing is absolutely superb, bringing each of these characters to life and establishing emotional touchpoints far deeper than one would suspect at first. It was a non-stop read for me, one that I know I'll read again and again. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Melanie Archer is a film industry wardrobe assistant with a huge crush on the latest Hollywood heart-throb, Declan Bain. Declan is hotter than hot and she gets to be up close and personal as she dresses him every day. It’s a shame that he’s a grumpy asshole to everyone.

I was so excited to read this book, thinking it would be a new take on the curvy girl and hot celebrity trope. It started off really well. The plot moved along at a nice pace and the tension between Melanie and Declan really gave me the feels.

When he comes onto her she resists, and doesn’t believe his intentions are anything other than to humiliate her. She truly doesn’t believe he would genuinely want a fuller figured woman like her. Melanie argues with herself about his intentions saying, “He's a Hollywood star who thinks he owns the world—including you.”

It’s hard to say much about Declan. The story is told entirely from Melanie’s POV. This isn’t a problem if the writer reveals his character through his actions and dialogue, but they don’t really talk much. His actions suggest he loves her and has done for awhile, but that’s it. He has very little depth.

I don’t think there was anything new about the portrayal of a curvy heroine in the film industry. She’s full of self-doubt and has to deal with a lot of condescension, and openly rude and insulting comments.

The sex scenes were very hot, but I found something a little off in terms of the descriptions.

“Christa did it again! She wrote an outstanding masterpiece, chapter after chapter I was completely engaged. His Curvy Perfection is all told from Melanie’s POV, honestly I would have loved to have at least something from Deckan’s POV but I enjoyed the story.

Hot, sexy and erotic. The storyline was perfectly developed and easy reading. I felt in the love with the characters personalities, they were realistic and unique. Declan and Melanie chemistry was off limits but their connection left me speechless. They were a match made in heaven with an explosive attractiveness. They faced some hardships but who said finding the ideal happily ever was easy?

This was an extraordinary story, I highly recommend it!”

Mixed feelings

This book started out good and I was really excited reading it. Then it just began to start dragging and unraveling. It’s almost like the author had two or three stories in mind and just crammed parts of them altogether and forced them together in the last half of the book while leaving several opportunities unfulfilled from the original plot that seemed almost abandoned. Bottom line is that it left me with mixed feelings. High points and low points. Give it a try if you like sexy BBW stories.

This is all from Melanie's pov. It was okay, but I would prefer something from decklan's pov. He's purposely vague about his motives. Like (small spoiler) she thinks about leaving LA and moving back home to Massachusetts. He doesn't want her to leave. But they barely know each other. So why does he care if she leaves? If he's hiding that he's madly in love, I would like to know that. Because without his pov, I don't feel any connection between the two.

I have read the other books in the series and I enjoyed this one but it wasn’t five stars like the previous books. The story was good and I loved Declan and Melanie it just took a little while for the story to really get started. By the way I think Cammie is a kick ass best friend. I’m on to the next series. I haven’t decided which one I want to read next. I love your work Christa. Until next time y’all happy reading.

The writing wasn’t bad, but holy shit it could not pick a plot point and stick with it.
Be warned, there is a lot of fat-phobia. Mainly external Hollywood types, but also the heroine just can’t imagine the hero would want to be with a “girl like her”. It’s nothing that fat people haven’t heard before (speaking from experience) but it gets to be too much. Fortunately the hero, mom and BFF are always supportive of her.

Unlike the majority of Christa's work I didn't really enjoy this one. It felt too clinical and at one point confused. The whole story within a story would work if there was a little more to go on.

This book could have been great. I wanted to enjoy it. There were just too many themes here, dramatic obstacles that were brought in but none were ever fully addressed, none had a full climax to the issue and several were left completely unresolved. I have some many questions after finishing the book, one of them being why did I finish....
Also this is presented as a curvy girl romance but it is not 'body positive'. The MC spends most of the book doubting every thought she has and then you get to the point where she is past it and has confidence only to spiral again. Idk. Again it could have been great. There were original themes and ideas I'd never read before but they got lost in all of the unnecessary story lines.

Not believable enough

I have to give props to her, she wrote a book and published it. And that is very difficult goal to achieve for a lot of people, including me.
That said, the characters aren’t very developed, and their thoughts and actions didn’t make sense. It’s a rich alpha guy saving (by manipulation at first of course) a struggling creative type, giving her everything she needs and wants in between sex romps and poor communication.
I’d give it one star but that feels mean.

Loved it but there were a few problems

I loved the book and felt that it brought up a lot of important issues but it didn’t completely address them. Like why did he basically hate her and then all of a sudden was all over her and they never addressed it? Also the constant use of the wrong pronouns for Willies rubbed me the wrong way. I’m happy that a trans character was introduced but to have them be misgendered in the same sentence and the rest of the book wasn’t right.

Declan & Melanie

This is the first time I’ve read this author. I really enjoyed the book. I was up and down on a wonderful rollercoaster of emotions. At first when we introduced to Declan, he’s a jerk to everyone and especially Melanie. Melanie is wonderful for him if she can get out of her own head. He also has issues he keeps to himself that almost costs him the best thing in his life. They learn to grow and trust the love they have. Loved the happy ending.

Curvy Delight!

This is my first read of a Christa Wick book and I have to admit I was blown away! The sexual tension and emotional feels that were burning up between Declan and Melanie we’re out of this world. I voraciously gobbled up this book in one sitting and am going to immediately purchase another one from her. I definitely recommend this book!

Declan's temptation

Declan is the hot actor. Melanie worked in costume and never thought she'd captured his eye. She had done so much more.

At first Declan wasn't very likeable. Once he gave into his desires for Melanie he showed a new face. They were hot together. The pace of the story will keep you enthralled.

I loved this book. I’m a HUGE fan when it’s a story about a chubby girl. I love the body positive side of this book. Us big girls love feeling beautiful also.
I felt like this story could have been a bit longer some parts I felt a little rushed (or maybe I love Melanie and Declan and just wanted more of them ❤️)
Mental health and body positive addressed in this book. I’m a fan!!!!

My favorite Christa Wick curvy girl book, so far! There are so many things to love about this story. First, that these two are together, even when they are having problems, for more than half of the book. Next, love the movement that is started in the story. And then, there is the last part of the book - it's all good! I'm not ready to leave this world; this is definitely a read-again book for me.

Body Positive and HOT!!

I loved this book. Its different view of what some are willing to fight for. Even if it's good mental health, body positivity being a huge on. Not to mention the book is super hot!

Melanie is trying to build up her career as a costume designer in film and tv. Declan is the hot shot actor who is a bit rude. After getting stuck together, he makes a move but she doesn’t trust him. Is he really into her?

This was an ok read. Felt it could have a bit more backstory

This was a cute, relatively light, fun read. The plot was mediocre. The spice was very nice. And I love, love, love a plus-sized leading lady.
