Alison Aimes is a USA Today bestselling author of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, & Omegaverse Romance. Her books are on the steamy side and full of strong heroes, brave heroines, loads of action, and happy ever-afters. She lives in Maryland with her husband, two kids, her dog and a serious stash of chocolate.
This is a collection of sample first chapters, sometimes you get a second chapter. All of these stories were great with good plots. I am looking forward to reading the whole book and/or series. Good reads! Enjoy!
A ten first-chapters taster from the Science Fiction Romance (SFR) Brigade. The Portals series of tasters are now up to seven and I always find at least one portal worth exploring further in these books.
Of the Portals I have experienced, this one had the least amount of stories I wanted to go further on. Too many felt like knockoffs of existing stories instead of taking an idea and creating a new world. For example An Android is okay by not if I immediately see Data or the Terminator.
The ten stories are:
Trapped by Alison Aimer - Scientific team crashlands on prison planet. Not to my taste at the moment; sometimes this would intrigue me but not this week. Alien Blood by Melisse Aires - Survivor meets sci-fi romance. Solid characters right from the start. Picked up sample. Stranded with the Cyborg by Cara Bristol - Nice strong personalities and their history together made me pick up the sample. The Pilot by Diane Burton - Both hero and heroine are acting way too stupid (and they admit they may be acting stupid!), plus a total Spock knockoff for co-pilot. Ugh. Stark Pleasure by Cathryn Cade - Rich man takes poor woman away from all this. Nope. Liberation's Kiss by Wendy Lynn Clark - Android assassin with an average girl did not thrill me. The Champion of Baresh by Susan Grant - Looks interesting, but too close to a Star Wars knockoff for my taste at the moment. To Buy a Wife by KC Klein - Nope. Just nope. Alien Attachments by Sabine Preistley - Very nice opening. Picked up the sample. Earthbound Passion by Jody Wallace - A parody of the science fiction romance genre. I've run into these things before and I know some people love them. This one seems to follow the other attempts of this form of humor. Ummm, not a form I get.
So three of the ten made me look at the sample, but for the first time I had more than one "nope". And the whole thing lacks the amazing diversity I found in Portals Volume 1. Great series of tasters, this one is just not as good as most.
Portals: Volume Two begins with a fast-paced, compelling, well-written sci-fi romance adventure,Trapped by Allison Ames. Bella, a cadet on a scientific expedition headed to a planet with a penal colony as it may be a fertile place for humans to live on. But they crash on the planet instead. She saves two members of the expedition but they are hurt. When a wild convict finds them, Bella promises she'll do anything he asks if he helps them, otherwise she knows they won't survive. There are nine other first chapters samples, ten books in all. And it’s a fantastic variety of sci-fi romances. This Box Set gives you the opportunity to be introduced to a variety of new books and new authors, it's an easy way to discover sci-fi romance authors or books you'll love and you can just click on the links provided in the box set to get those ebooks immediately. I highly recommend Portals: Volume Two.
Is it self-serving to recommend this book??? I'm one of 10 authors who are sharing 1st chapters of our science fiction romance novels. If you like, there's a buy link. As with Volume One, I'm reading authors I've never read before, as well as new books from familiar authors. I'm so happy to be part of this book. Best part is this book is free.
I didn't realize what this was when I received this. What it is an anthology of sci-fi book synopsis and first chapter or two of 10 books, offered in hope that they have tickled your fancy or imagination sufficiently for you to purchase the books. Interesting concept and a few I did find interesting enough to purchase.
