When Max finds a newly born vampire fending on his own, his nurturing nature makes intervene and take the babyvamp under his wing. But soon he finds out that Kieran's creator is no other than James, Max' own psychotic creator, and that means trouble….
This is a really entertaining little story, which tells us about Max, a 44 years old vampire and how he meets by chance with newly created Kieran, who's been abandoned to fend on his own. Max cannot help taking the young vamp home, but soon the baby vampire becomes too much of a hassle. After all, Max is only a teenager in vamp terms, and he is not ready to raise a youngster on his own. Specially one who proves to be moody and full of drama. But when Max finds out who is Kieran's creator he realises it is going to be difficult to convince him to accept and raise Kieran. James is cruel and selfish, and it is responsible for all the issues Max developed after living with him. So when James purposely endangers Kieran's life, Max steps in and takes over. Being responsible of Kieran was not his purpose, but it is better than leaving him James or letting him die. If only Kieran would grow up already, and get a grip on his flighty personality…
As I said, it is a short story, but a really entertaining one. Both Max and Kieran are likeable, Max is sensitive and troubled, Kieran is coy and temperamental, but they are both as endearing as their relationship soon becomes. I did not expect too much from this story, but I find myself pleasantly surprised and with a goofy smile in my face. I am a happy reader now!
