One of my best friends did a biography report on Amelia Earhart, so I wanted to read about her in a book. She was really adventurous and she was a tomboy. I like baseball, science, books with boys as main characters, rubik's cubes, magic tricks, and other things boys like, so I liked that part about her. One thing that was different about Amelia and me was she wasn't a very good student in school.

Only 7 pages of this book actually talk about Amelia flying so I'm not sure that Amelia Earhart: Adventure in the Sky is the best fit. A better title might have been Amelia Earhart: Her Early Years. I learned a lot about Amelia as a child and how childhood experiences influenced her adulthood. Just wished that there would have been more about her flying because that's what she's famous for. I plan on using this book with guided reading groups. I think kids will enjoy the stories in it.

I was shocked about my own ignorance when I read this book, Who was, Fred Noonan?, and why was he never mentioned? was I just not paying attention? and as always these brief biographies for younger readers by Troll Associates would make a great gift to any library that does not already have them. This was a Good Read.

This biography spends a lot of time making Amelia's childhood come alive, recreating dialog for some of the more memorable episodes. Far less time and detail is given to her adult life.

Francene Sabin's book titled "Amelia Earhart: Adventure in the Sky" is a concise, well-written biography of the famous pilot from Atchison, Kansas.

This book gives a very brief overview of the life of Amelia Earhart. About three quarters of the book is dedicated to her life before her high school graduation. She and her sister, Muriel, were very active youngsters. They like to play games, climb, build, explore, and basically do things that only boys were used to doing. Their parents facilitated their interests and encouraged the girls. Amelia say a plane flying for the first time in 1907 and became enamored with them. In 1920 Amelia learned to fly and began to set many flying records. In the summer of 1937 Amelia and navigator lost communication somewhere over the Pacific Ocean as they were attempting to travel around the world.

I like the book because it is historical and involves something of a mystery. I've found that I am really interested when missing ships and planes are located and always read those news items. I do wish that the book had more information about Amelia's life as an adult, but it is written for kids and makes sense that her younger years would be the focus.

I think that this book would be good to introduce students, especially girls, to some history. I think that they would find the mystery aspect of the story interesting. Students could be asked what they think happened to her and her plane. They could even be asked to write an account of what they think happened.

Bio. Number 1
Before reading this book I only knew that Amelia Earhart was the first woman pilot to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. I learned a lot about how inspiring she was as a woman. I think a lot of it had to do with how she was raised. In the book I learned how she and her sister were adventurous and their parents always encouraged them to try the unusual. She didn't learn to fly plans until she was older after working toward the war effort, but when she did she set huge standards for what woman could do. I think she made a difference in woman's rights and equality because she wasn't afraid to be brave.

Review: This book is one of the biographies of the life of Amelia Earhart. It explains her life and dreams as a child and what she did to reach those dreams. This would be a great example of a biography for students to read. Especially, if they were writing a paper over Amelia Earhart.
