Alessandra, the Oracle of Delphi, is under the control of the Supreme Magistrate, a madman determined to use her goddess-like powers to conquer deities and humans alike. Unable to confront him as she would like to, she bides her time and learns the political ropes while trying to save as many lives as possible. The implant linking her telepathically to the Supreme Magistrate begins to pull her into his madness, until she can no longer tell reality from the fictitious world he has created. With her allies exiled beyond the walls, Alessandra turns to Lantos, the Supreme Priest, a demigod as likely to betray her as help her. Lantos promises to help her on one condition – a condition she’s initially unwilling to accept.
Outside of Washington DC, Phoibe, the Silent Queen, struggles to control her rebellion. The army is fractured and unwilling to follow a teenage queen against the military might the Supreme Magistrate has spent years building. Just when she’s about to give up, she finds support where she least expects to: in the very gods she swore to expel from Earth. They’ll help her, if she calls off her war against them.
The Grotesque Prince, Adonis, has spent his life not knowing who he is. On a journey of self-discovery mandated by the goddess Artemis, he returns to the lands he once ruled. Amidst the rubble and destruction caused by the gods, he uncovers the plaque the goddess tasked him to find. Once he reads it, he understands too well the danger he’s placed everyone around him in, especially Alessandra, who woke him from slumber without understanding the consequences of such an action.

You must read book 1, Omega, first. Theta starts right where Omega left off. This story is crazy creative! I'm hooked and spent most of this book going crazy. We follow along with several characters, but the main character, Alessandra, has to figure out all the pieces to the puzzle to save humanity. There are so many characters at play and most are pulling Alessandra in different directions. She must determine who to trust, if she can trust anyone. She has visions of the future that just creates more questions and one wrong move could be everyone's destruction. Theta does not end, it stops right at a crucial moment and will pick back up with the third book in the series. I really had to concentrate with this book. There is just so many clues and I'm struggling right along with Alessandra trying to figure everything out. This will be a good series to read a second time after knowing the end. I would love to go back and see what stands out! ARC provided by NetGalley.
Title: Theta (Omega #2) Author: Lizzy Ford Publisher: Captured Press, 2016 (August 29) Genre: YA Dystopian, YA Fantasy, YA Mythology
**I received an ARC of this book free from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. At the time of this review, the book is now available**
I hate waiting this long in-between reading my books and writing my reviews, because the freshness of the book leaves my mind.
Let me warn all of you that this is a sequel, so there will be mention of the first book in this review. I don't know if many of you have read Lizzy Ford's books, but she is a talented writer. I loved Omega and was bugging her about the release of the next one on Goodreads (well, not more than once, but I wanted to know when it was coming out!) I read the first one way back in March, before I started my blog. The last one, Alpha, won't be out until 2017, and I'll probably go crazy while waiting.
In Omega, we meet Alessandra, a girl raised by Herakles in the forest. She's abducted and taken to Adonis, where she discovers she is the Oracle of Delphi. See, in this world, Greek gods are real and they have been responsible for the deaths of a large part of the human race. The humans want to return the world to the way it used to be: Greek gods where they belong and humans on Earth. But the bridge between worlds was closed by the last Oracle, supposedly to protect the human race. At least that's what Cecelia, the old Oracle, claims. Alessandra realizes that Adonis is also Mismatch, a grotesque (gargoyle) who flies the skies at night. She remembers her childhood and Mismatch being a large part of it, and she and Adonis start to fall for each other. But Cleon snatches her and finds a way to make Alessandra's powers become part of him. As an Oracle, she has the power to create and destroy, and she becomes Cleon's tool.
This is Omega:
Way good and way intense. My kind of story. Mythology, magic, and mayhem all set in a dystopian world. Awesome-sauce.
In Theta, Alessandra's powers still have been hijacked by Cleon, the Supreme Magistrate. He becomes more powerful by the day. Meanwhile, the Silent Queen, a woman who believes strongly in the death of all gods, is working on eliminating Cleon and getting the gods to leave Earth. (You really got to read the first book, people. I'm not doing it any justice) Adonis searches for himself and finds Menalaus, an old man who remembers Adonis's ancestors and is part of his cursed bloodline. He too becomes a grotesque at night. They form a bond and Adonis becomes less of a monster. Alessandra pines for him, being cut off from the rest of the world by Cleon, but she fears she will be the death of him. One of the benefits to being an Oracle: prophecies of Adonis's death haunt her.
She doesn't know who to trust, but it's definitely not Cleon...or is it? Can the one man who hijacked her mind and her powers actually be trying to save the human race? Will Adonis be able to save her? Where is Herakles, the man who is practically her father?
All these questions and more will be answered in...Theta! (Cue suspenseful music)
Is It Classroom-Appropriate?
Yes, both books are, actually. The only problem with books like this in a classroom is that you have to read the whole series or else the ending is too abrupt. But the mythology tied in with the dystopian future tied in with the suspense: kids would love this. I think it could be used as a bridge for reading material outside the classroom. Maybe the premise could be used in writing responses? (They're called bell-ringers and they're a way to get kids to take an idea and write about it).
If this series was a standalone, I would use it to integrate mythology in the classroom. Alas, it is not. So though it might not be something that one could apply to the curriculum, it is definitely something I would give a fan of mythology to read. Or even a fan of dystopian lit. No qualms about recommending books for outside pleasure reading or having a copy of the series in my personal school library/bookshelf. Once I have a classroom.
*ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review* I've been dying to read this magnificent beauty of a book ever since I finished Omega on August of last year!! I was so immersed in being back into this beautiful world that I didn't even see the ending rapidly rushing at me. I was deceived big time with those extra pages and I am super depressed about it. There's nothing like being proud of having a quite a few pages left to read (which means more things to discover) and then finding out that the page you're reading is the last one. I'm pretty sure we can all hear my heart shatter all over again, right? Anyway, we follow the same characters from the first novel, Omega. If you read my review for that one, then you KNOW how much I am obsessed with every single character in this series. They all have a depth to them that is far more than I can handle. Why can't I handle it? Because it makes me love them all when I'm supposed to hate some for the things they've done; Yet I can't manage to make myself do so. I admit, I'm not trying hard enough but these characters all deserve my love and I gave it to them the second I met them. There's Alessandra, the Oracle of Delphi, who is coming into the rest of her powers. We get a taste of just how strong she can be if she let herself and witness how she deals with the events forced upon her on the last book. She's one of the few heroines that I can't help but respect everything they do and feel; I can't admire her enough. Then we have the love of my life, the smile to my frown, the giddiness to my sadness, the grotesque prince, the most feared man, Adonis! I can't get enough of him and this book just kept on proving it. I want to know SO MUCH MORE about his past- every little thing - that I think I want it more than he does. I also couldn't keep myself from swooning at everything he said. I loved witnessing how much he's changed from when we first met him. And last but no least, we have Phoeibe, the Silent Queen, who is as badass as they come. She isn't afraid to do whatever must be done in order to win the war everybody is fighting. In this installment we get to meet new characters (that I also loved) and witness unexpected alliances well as betrayals. Now that I think about it, I do hate one character in particular... but that is it. Secrets are also starting to unravel and the plot keeps on thickening. We also get to experience some crazy and unimaginable twists and turns. Honestly, I am going insane without knowing where my babies are going to end up. I had a constant horrible feeling in my stomach while I read since I knew that things were going to get worse for them but I had no idea how. It was a feeling of dread mixed with fear and everything bad in the world. At one point, I was crushed in a way that I didn't see coming and I couldn't stop crying for a while after IT happened. This series is the perfect example of how things are never quite what they seem and I need more of it no matter how scared I might be.
Although I enjoyed a lot the first book this one disappointed me a lot. There wasn't really happening anything that should take the story a step further. Alessandra was complaing how trapped she felt but didn't do anything about it, she didn't even try. It was confusing cause I couldn't understand why the characters where doing all these things and the end the wasn't any real resolution at anything...I am sad about this book and I won't continue with the series... My thanks to Netgalley for the arc
I first read Lizzy Ford's Omega a year ago, and couldn't wait to read the sequel, Theta. The story picks up not long after the events of the first novel, and readers find Alessandra under the control of the Supreme Magistrate. As she tries to harness her powers and stave off the impending apocalypse, Adonis is on a journey of self-discovery. Meanwhile, The Silent Queen prepares to attack the gods. In a battle between those with magical powers and those without, sometimes it's hard to figure out who to trust. Filled with loads of political machinations, action, and a bit of romance, Theta was everything I could have wanted. Except when it wasn't.
While I enjoyed the overarching story of the three principal characters (Alessandra, Adonis, and the Silent Queen), I also felt that the book dragged in many parts. Alessa spent most of the book not doing very much but rebelling, and trusting the wrong people. Every scene she was in seemed to repeat the one before. Not much of her story seemed to propel the series forward. The same can be said of Adonis' point of view chapters. He spent most of the book soul-searching, which didn't amount to the number of pages it took for him to get any pay-off. In fact, the only POV of real interest was the Silent Queen's. The fact of the matter is, at over 400 pages, this book is just too long for how little happens in it.
If you are a fan of dystopia, apocalyptic fiction, of YA paranormal series then you may want to check out The Omega Series. Ford does a great job of setting up the world building via miniseries stories that complement each novel. I will admit that I did read the Omega Miniseries before reading Omega, and it is suggested that readers read the Theta Miniseries before Theta, which I didn't do. Maybe if I had the story would have flowed better. On the other hand, I shouldn't have to read the miniseries in order to enjoy the second novel. While entertaining, this by no means is a "must-read." This review was originally posted on I Was Angelized_1st

*My Thoughts*
Theta is the second installment in author Lizzy Ford's Omega series. Theta picks up several months after the brutal ending to Omega. 18-year old protagonist Alessandra aka Lyssa, is the fated Oracle of Delphi. She's found herself in a precarious situation after being ensnared by Cleon, the Supreme Megalomaniac who she is bound to thanks an unbreakable implant placed on her spine. After the horrific ending to Oracle, Lyssa has few options left and few allies she can trust. She's basically a weapon that can be pointed at anyone that Cleon doesn't like, and she doesn't have a whole lot of room to say no.
Even though there were some really good parts to this book, for some reason I just didn't get into it as much as I was hoping. Maybe because not much actually happens...I don't know. We bounce back and force between different characters, mainly Alessandra and Phoibe but sometimes others as well. I enjoy a story that's not told from just one viewpoint so I did like that.
Alessandra is slowly losing her mind. With Cleon inside her head, their connection only keeps getting stronger and stronger until she sometimes doesn't even know if a thought was hers or his. Worse, he is able to use her power as his own. And he definitely doesn't plan on using it for good. Alessandra doesn't know what to believe and has nobody she can trust anymore. After trying to suppress her powers, the situation changes and she has finally decided to try and use them and make them stronger. Some of her new skills are pretty neat too. I also loved how Cerberus is always there now. Her visions have also started, and they terrify her. After seeking out the first Oracle, Alessandra fears the only way for her to save the world might be to work together with parasite inside her head. Not something she wants to do. After all, Cleon is untrustworthy and kind of an evil man.
Phoibe really annoyed me here. I was getting so frustrated with how selfish and short sighted she was being. She refused to listen to anything that was outside her desires because of what she thought was really going on (which is incorrect by the way), and she withheld a very important truth from Herakles because she didn't want him to leave her. SELFISH. She is outside the city raising her army and trying to plan her war. She's also going around killing as many gods as she can find. She has a secret that can complicate things, even more so when she first transforms into a grotesque. This change terrifies her and it's not until she manages to speak to Alessandra that she calms down about it. When a surprise attack is launched against her camp, she lets that beast side take over her actions to protect her people. But when she comes to, she is horrified by what she sees and has done. Thankfully, Herakles is there in his ever calm and rational way. Now it's time to regroup.
Adonis set out on his task and is having no luck finding this plaque. He's getting frustrated at how much time is passing with nothing accomplished. Then he encounters an old man who is more than he appears and Adonis learns more about why he was sent there and some of his bloodline's past. He takes the man with him when he goes back to the city but hides him away when he finds Phoibe's camp. He's there for a few days trying to help when Niko shows up. Adonis knew something was wrong when he lost his connection to Alessandra, but he had no idea just how bad things were for her. Now he rushes to save her only to find out he actually can't.
Lantos is trying very hard to undo the wrong that he has already done, but it's not proving easy. I really REALLY liked him so I was not happy at all with what happens to him at the end.
I'll definitely check out the next book when it comes out to see what happens now. I just hope that Alessandra finally catches a break and more so that she reunites with Herakles.
Much like the first book, I guess I should mention that I got a copy of this from Netgalley right after I purchased it.
Theta by Lizzy Ford is a well planned out look at gods and goddesses in today's time. I love all these characters and have enjoyed watching them, and their interactions, change as time passes. Now, there is only a small protected space surrounding DC, and the Oracle has seen the futures. There is just so much going on at each time. A real joy to read. There is a cliffy, of course, but it is worth the read.
Although I am still pissed over book 3 being 2 years overdue. Am I going to find out how this ends? This book is still suxy like the first but at least there is some hope to be had.
This book was fast paced and moved through events quickly. Loved seeing more of the Silent Queen but not as fleshed out as the first book. Maybe a longer novel would add to it. I loved it anyway!
This second book is very slow in the beginning. A novel where heroin is very innocent oopps very dumb. She has power but don't know what to do and that irritates me. I searched for third book but it is not written why don't know because second book completed in 2017.
Dang it! I can't decide which cliffhanger was worse Omega's or Theta's, but I'm completely hooked and want more! Following up on all that's happened after Omega and showing more insight into the thickening plot made this sequel epic. The more you read the more you learned even when things got murky here and there. I seriously can't wait for the next installment!
Told in multiple perspectives, the novel begins with Alessandra two months ahead. Alessandra is forced into a control symbiosis with Cleon, the Supreme Magistrate, who quickly forces her to do things that make leave Alessandra plagued with guilt. Alessandra wants nothing more than to cut their connection that was implanted by Lantos, but it may cost her life and power.
All the while Alessandra's power is growing and her visions of a fiery future plague her. Meanwhile the silent queen, Phoibe, is fostering up troops while on the run outside of the D.C. safe zone. Phoibe has learned to fight and kill a new threat which is gods possessing humans, and she takes great joy in vanquishing them. But when her forces are barely battling the harsh elements the young queen learns to take on allies she would normally destroy in a heartbeat. The problem is her bloodline curse may be the undoing of them all or something more.
As for Alessandra's beloved Mismatch, or Adonis, he too is seen struggling through his demons, trying to understand is he beast or man? Adonis finds his answer from an unlikely source and eventually returns. His return is not what he expects finding his best friend a betrayer, his descendant in danger and on the run, and his Alessandra locked away and controlled. His only hope in rescuing her is staying away, when Alessandra tells him it's his death that she see time and again in her visions of the end.
Overall, the was a great sequel, I feel as if I really understand the characters better. Their intentions are a bit more clear as the final pieces of the puzzle are revealed to show us what caused this and that. I'm a romantic at heart so I'm truly hoping for a big apocalyptic HEA, but I'm guessing some aren't going to make it. Alessandra is obviously a key player but so many others are as well making the story complex and luring you in. There are a few shocking moments in this novel and I'm so anxious to see how it all play out into the next book. Now I can't say much with out giving up spoilers. But I must at least this Alessandra and Adonis, love them soooooo much! OMG! If there's one couple that survives it better be them, okay that's all I say. So if you haven't read the first novel Omega do so and then grab this one you'll enjoy it.
**I received a free copy in return for an honest review, but I bought it too**
I did not enjoy this as much as the first one, but it was still good. In this book Alessandra has to figure out how to use her powers and stay herself. With Cleon in her head, she has to figure out how to survive and who to trust. She was not raised in the world of politics she finds herself entrenched in, so she has no idea how to navigate the minefield. Who to trust and what each character's end game is keeps Alessandra in constant turmoil. She is not the only character struggling to know who to trust, who to believe and what choices to make. The Silent Queen and Adonis have similar problems. Mistakes, alliances, and crucial decisions rule the story in this volume. Who will survive to see the end? Will Alesandra make the right decisions to prevent the world from ending, or will she end up being the cause of it? I enjoyed the struggles and the feeling of helplessness that plague this book. Watching the characters grow into their new roles and try to carve out the future they want keeps this plot moving through twists and turns. I'm excited to watch it all unfold in the next installment. This book didn't have enough Adonis for my taste, but hopefully he will be in the next one a lot more. Will Alessandra have what it takes to stop the bad guy from ending the world? Will she learn to use her powers to be the oracle of prophecy? Every character has so many layers and so many secrets. You never know exactly what to expect from them and who can truly be trusted. They all have secret plans and end games. Alessandra is in way over her head and the reader is right there with her as she tries to wade through all the layers of deception. I am really enjoying this series and can't wait to see how it all unfolds.
I really enjoy this series. I will have to go back and read the first because it does get a bit confusing with all the characters that are in this series but for the most part I was understanding who was who. I cannot wait to see how this story ends. You have so much on the line and so much that is up in the air of what is true what isn't. I love the characters, there are so many diverse characters and with different powers as well. I also enjoy the story itself and how it goes from different points of view in the story so you can get the full effect. I did feel though now that I have had a couple days to think about it that not a lot happened and wasn't that big of a cliff hanger that I was expecting. A good portion did happen but I felt that it didn't pick off from the last one, it may be because it has been awhile since I read the first one but I felt a lot had happened between book one and two that I didn't get to see. I am still looking forward to the next one but this one I didn't feel I needed to read right away, I could be okay with a couple days of not reading and wondering. I will always recommend Lizzy's books and I did really enjoy it but just a couple things felt off about this book. I am looking forward to the next one though. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
If you, like me, love Greek mythology than the Omega series is a must read. I enjoyed “Theta” just as much as “Omega”, the first book. The story begins two month after "Omega" ends and follows Alessandra on her way trying to save the world. She is coming into her powers but having Cleon inside her head makes it difficult to stop the war between gods and humans. Phoebe, the silent Queen, learns about a curse put on her family and that the secrets she has can turn people against her. And Mismatch goes back in time 4000 years to get more inside about his life and what happened then. I really like the story world Lizzy Ford has build and all the characters are fantastic, I might not like all of them, but that’s just like in real life. Now I can’t wait for “Alpha”, book 3 in the series. If you decide to read “Theta”, make sure you’ve read “Omega” , or you will be lost with “Theta”. And you will have missed out on a great book.
***Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review***
Holy crap! There is so much going on with this second installment of the series that I just couldn't put it down! With the oracle coming into her own and all of her counterparts having their own parts to play I am still no closer to finding out how this story will play out! There were some unexpected twists thrown in I really didn't see coming and by the end we find that not everyone makes it to the next book. Which leaves me wondering what will happen next. That being said the action and suspense will keep you on the edge of your seat! Oh man I need the next one like now!
Being brutally honest; give me Tolkien's "Silmarillion" over this any day! I modestly consider myself an avid and accomplished reader but every time I picked this up I felt nothing but deflated. The plot lines are convoluted and - since all the protagonists speak in the first person - very hard to follow. I ask again; who is doing what to whom? I doubt very much if I shall fall over myself to acquire the third book in the series.
I wish I could give angry emojis here because it is absolutely necessary in this case. Omega left me rattled and CRAVING for more; this is nothing different. You just want it to go on and on. This is one of few books I took breaks in due to its overwhelming qualities. Warning: What your view of 'bad' and 'good' or 'right' and 'wrong' may be drastically changed. Prepare for an avalanche!

Great continuation to the series. The thing that makes this series so awesome is the layers that surround every character. This is one of those stories where you never know who to root for because like a mystery novel, you constantly learn new things. Definite must read and can't wait for the next one!
Gods, monsters, Oracle's and a silent queen. The truth is not always as it seems people manipulate others based on their views. A through provoking second book in a series that has magic and war to intrigue and enthral you
This book is the second book in the omega series and you need to read the first book first before this one. This was a great book and entertaining. Mismatch is finding out about him self and where he is from. I highly recommend this series and book to others.
This series is amazing! I can't wait to find out what happens. Will Alessandra be able to save the world? I can't believe you left me hanging like that Lizzy! LOL
