Se7en Sinners #1

Born Sinner

Rate this book
Twenty-two years ago, I was cut from a cold, sodden womb, and cradled in the filth and poverty of Chicago’s concrete arms. Statistically, I wasn’t supposed to survive these streets past the age of eighteen.
Fate had a different plan.
I was bred for one purpose and one purpose only: to unleash death and destruction on my world.
My thoughts are power.
My words are weapons.
Evil created me then grace tried to save me. But first… they tried to kill me.
They call themselves the Se7en. They are sin and salvation, and everything we’ve feared from the beginning of time. And their leader is the deadliest of them all.
He doesn’t lose.
He doesn’t compromise.
And most importantly, he doesn’t distract himself with mortal weakness.
Not until me.
Kill one to save a million.
That’s what he told me when he took me as his prisoner.
Kill one to save a million.
That’s what he’s been trying to tell himself ever since he took me into his arms.

This is my first book by this author and I’m happy to report that I enjoyed her writing style and will definitely be checking out her other works in the future. The story on the other hand was touch and go for me but overall I did enjoy it.

I liked the struggling heroine, Eden whose words can compel any human to her will. She is easy to relate to and root for in this story. On the other hand, the Se7en who are a group of reformed demons nipping potential evil threats in our world one by one as some sort of personal penance could have used a bit more work and fleshing out for me. The hero L is flawed and powerful and his attraction to Eden is electric.

”Eden…” A flash of torment passes his gaze and he closes his eyes. “You make me want to sin.” I cup his other check, hoping he can feel every ounce of my conviction. “Then do it.”

description

I would have liked a bit more in all the Se7en aspect of the story especially why they went from wanting to eliminate her to helping and putting their lives on the line for her against the king of darkness (who I found to be more alluring and more interesting than the hero.) There is something to say for an unapologetic character…don’t judge lol.

description

Also the 'jumper' aspect was a bit fuzzy to me on is this entity always there or just at will? So going forward to the next book which I’m unclear about the release I’m left twisted in liking where the heroine is and what’s to come though I’m sure I’m rooting for the wrong demon!

I don't need much of a reference to read S. L. Jennings' book...
cause she has amazed me so far, especially with her Dark Light series Dark Light (Dark Light, #1) by S.L. Jennings The Dark Prince (Dark Light, #2) by S.L. Jennings Light Shadows (Dark Light, #3) by S.L. Jennings Nikolai (Dark Light, #2.5) by S.L. Jennings
and what more can one want in a fantasy genre?!

DEAR LORD!!! THIS BOOK...

Damn, even after I have slept on it, it's still difficult to sum up the story and not give away too much…but to hell with it all, I need to express myself! :)

The main heroine, Eden Faith Harris
„I'm a troubled girl with a dark past whose thoughts and words are weapons.“

She had a rough life where her psychotic mother tried to kill her cause she was convinced she was tainted by the devil, marked, chosen…for evil.
So Eden, walks through her young existence tormented by the past actions, she actually believes she's evil and not worthy… and when she's been saved/taken by a group of rough, dangeours, mysterious men…the scary, unbelievable truth slowly comes out to the surfice making her life as she's known it so far, seem like a child's play…
She's tossed into a whirpool of existing demons, fallen angels, warlocks, while she tries to grasp the fact of what is going on… what she's was groomed to become….as a result of the devious planning of the Evil personified himself.
There are those who will be Called. Before they are born, they are chosen to become weapons of evil – serial killers, terrorists, mass shooters. They don't know it, and once they are activated, they have no control. They're sole purpose is pain and destruction.

„I was born to be a weapon. A murderer.“

BUT what she truly is…she must fight to become
I did something…something I never thought I could. Something good for a change.

The girl had chosen to be an asset rather than a victim. She would not be a martyr in the face of adversity. She would stand and fight, despite her mortal weakness. Despite her destiny. She would fight…and win.

Being in the proximity of her captors that held her…she's being presented with the whole purpose of their existence and her own.
„We're called the Se7en. We sin so that your kind may find salvation.“

By origin, we are passengers of the dark – ambassadors of evil. We were forged in fire and filth and the blood of the damned. Eden, we are demons.

„We have spent over a century battling our true nature, in hopes of restoring mercy and peace amongst your kind. There has to be a balance…we've been hunting those that are chosen, ending them before they are Called. Hoping that by ending one, we will save thousands…millions…“

And on that way of learning about herself, she's also fighting the implemented nightmares, tempted by the very Evil that calls to her, luring her in and the scarier thing than the other is the power she's carrying within her ready to either unleash Hell on Earth or…
„I'm trapped by my own destiny, caged in by the hand this life – my insignificant, inconsequential human life – has dealt me. If I stay, I remain isolated from everything I know. If I go, I risk hurting people – killing people. There's no way to stop what's coming.

I was born sinner, and I will die sinner.

BUT there's one amongst them who will show her that she can make a different choice, a different path…he's showing her hope and the way to belong. Just as equaly he's trying to find his own penenace, his way to annihilate the given task, the resolution,
„I've been waiting for you for a long time, Eden.“

„You were bred for destruction. I was sent to stop you.“

redemption
„My soul is too heavy to bear one more unwarranted death.“

and salvation by protecting her instead of killing her.
„As long as I'm alive on this earth, I will protect you.“

HIM.

L– the leader, the elder, the Demon Slayer. He is the Collector of Fallen Souls.

 photo BORN SINNER_zpshdakm0wj.jpg

He's not one, but many. All this time he's spent searching for penance for each one of them.

And he has his own mission.
„I'm Hell on earth, Eden.
But that doesn't mean I want to be.“

She was his task, his mission set in one direction - the final one, then he found another meaning, another essence in her,
„With you, inside you, it makes me remember what it feels like to belong somewhere.“

and his purpose changed, she became his only mission, his cause for salvation. She was his redemption and his passion. As Eden finally feels that she's wanted, that she belongs too.

 photo BORN SINNER1_zpsqw8yk850.jpg

And he was willing to pay the higest price to save her. To give her the chance of life.
I'm not just dying for you, Eden. I'm dying for a cause much greater than any of us. I'm dying for mankind. I'm choosing to trade my life so that you, and people like you, may have a chance to actually have one for a change.“

It's like she was his destiny, she was destined for him…
You have me, Eden. Live for me. Hold on for me.“

„Why?“

„Because from the first moment I saw you…I knew that I would die for you.
So please…live for me.
Just for a little while longer.“

 photo embrace BORN SINNER_zpsefzvjht3.jpg

and he's been waiting for too long…

BUT things always seem to go in the direction out of planned route especially when the Devil himself changes the rules of the game and sets the course towards the devastation, betrayal, deceit will tear and destroy them all, and he'll give the choice one can only choose the less bad out of two…as the basic temptation stirs the human weakness, they will cave and they will fall…again.

Now he needs to bring her back….before the end starts and Hell on earth begins…

 photo BORN SINNER2_zpsln9uoxew.jpg

I will protect her or die trying.“

And I have just the right lyrics for the emotional twister that is lurking inside of them…well, at least that how I imagine it…
”…Girl you leave me breathless
But it's okay 'cause
You are my survival
Now hear me say
I can't imagine life
Without your love
Even forever don't seem
Like long enough…

Maybe I'm a drifter
Maybe not
'Cause I have known the safety
Of floating freely
In your arms
I don't need another lifeline
It's not for me
'Cause only you can save me
Oh can't you see…
Go on and pull me under
Cover me with dreams, yeah
Love me mouth to mouth now
You know I can't resist
'Cause you're the air
That I breathe

'Cause everytime I breathe
I take you in
And my heart beats again
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love
Everytime I try to rise above
I'm swept away by love
Baby I can't help it
You keep me
Drowning in your love…

Drowning by Backstreet Boys (DO NOT effin judge me LOL)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZXHB...

I LOVED IT, because not only did it keep me on the edge of my seat, it made me involved, it made me react, it made me feel…i was enveloped in a haze of mystical, biblical poetic notion through out the characters, through out the essence of the story…and the essence is universal yet unique in its presentation.

In short, it's a story of seeking redemption, salvation, forgiveness, hope, sacrifice… it's s story of the fall from grace and the journey back to God's favor….it's a story of eternal battle between the good and the evil, within yourself and around you…it's a story of growth, life, its essence and change…it's s story of searching for humanity at its basic core…

I can't wait for the second book!!!

Warning spoilers ahead

I will protect her or die trying.

Born sinner is about a lost girl Eden, Rules by pain and anger, she was born with un-human gifts She can bend the will of humans by whispering words to them. Eden was five years old when her mom tried to kill her, she was drowning her instead of baptize her, her mother was a religious fanatic who kept saying that her daughter was evil and cursed.Eden was born to be a vessel through which Lucifer exacts his devious plan.

I was bred for one purpose and one purpose only: to unleash death and destruction on my world

My thoughts are power.

My words are weapons.

There are those who will be Called. Before they are born, they are chosen to become weapons of evil – serial killers, terrorists, mass shooters. They don't know it, and once they are activated, they have no control. They're sole purpose is pain and destruction.

...I was born to be a weapon. A murderer"

Eden has no idea about her true nature, or purpose untill the day she meets him, i mean the day he kidnapped her and told her everything about her dark past and futur.

They call themselves the Se7en. They are sin and salvation, and everything we’ve feared from the beginning of time. And their leader is the deadliest of them all.

He doesn’t lose.

He doesn’t compromise.

And most importantly, he doesn’t distract himself with mortal weakness.

the Se7en are demon assassins of redemption, Sinners of salvation and Their leader "Legion" is the strongest one of them, he's a demon slayer, collector of fallen souls, and he has a mission, he has to save Eden from being "Called" by Lucifer.

i loved the slow build up romance between Eden and Legion, The ending was so sad ! :( i'm still shocked by what Lilith (Adam's first wife) has done ! THAT BITCH arghhh, So frustrated. i can't wait for book 2 ! :D :D

OMG THAT CLIFF HANGER THOUGH

Really enjoyed this book and highly would recommend if you are looking for an NA demon/angel book! FYI this IS def NA some mature shit happens so fair warning.

Starting off I really appreciated how this book took the idea of angels/demons and twisted it. My favorite part of this book was the Se7en Sinners, even though I felt we didn't get to see enough of the individual members I'm still excited to continue on with the rest of the series to dive more into them. Personally, I actually enjoyed the secondary characters a little more than our main character Eden.

Now I don't hate Eden she actually reminds me a ton of Clary from TMI since when I first read City of Bones I felt the same way about Clary that I do with Eden in this book. What happens is I will start liking the main character but then they do something completely stupid/naive/reckless which causes me to completely question them and I end up be very annoyed with whatever they did. It's this cycle that happens and yet again I don't hate them just feel a disconnection with them since I don't understand the mindset behind these said decisions. I have a feeling though I will start liking Eden more as the series continues since with Clary as TMI continued I started to connect with her more and eventually I started to love her. Time will tell though as the series continue.

Let's talk about the romance. Now, I enjoyed the romance but I was really into it until the last 10% of the book. For me I felt for the other 90% I didn't understand the insta-lust that happened (fair warning the ANGST IS SO REAL). Of course in that last 10% we find out where the feelings come from BUT I wish it was talked about earlier. The thing that annoyed me about the romance was they kept going around in circles to avoid different issues. Honestly, so much shit could've been avoided if it was talked about earlier but I get it since the ending might of not of had a bigger impact if that stuff didn't come out last minute (even though that particular element I was disappointed/not surprised about).

Speaking of the ending that shit fucked me up. The love interest back story was guessable but the other stuff BYEEE.
I have no clue when the next book is coming out but this girl needs to ASAP!

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I had minor issues with it but I definitely will be continuing on with this series.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟STARS
I have been meaning to get around to this series for a while.
Previously reading The Dark/Light books by this author and loving them Born Sinner (Se7en Sinners, #1) by S.L. Jennings has been on my TBR pile for quite some time.
And while this didn't draw me in initially quite as quickly as previous books I have read by this author I did get there in the end.
And when I did fall I was captivated by this vividly portrayed world.
Born Sinner tells the story of the seven.
Seven demons trying to redeem themselves by whatever means necessary, led by their leader "L" Legion.
Who can I just say is totally manalicious and super bad ass.

“Because I once was seraphim,” he pronounces, his all-commanding tone rumbling the floor beneath my socked feet. A blast of sweltering heat radiates around his entire frame, forcing me back. “But now… I… Am… Legion.”

There mission to stop the called, basically like Lucifers sleeper cells, dormant till activated to do horrific actions and "Eden" is one such cell.
"Kill one to save a million" is the motto they live by and how they justify their actions.
But Eden is something more and as L does a complete 360 and decides he needs to protect her maybe at first on account of the angel "Adriel" he senses inside her.
"Adriel" his first love who he fell from heaven for.
But also because he finds himself completely captivated by the enigma that is Eden.

“Because from the first moment I saw you—through the dingy window of that store, your headphones on, oblivious to the dangers right outside the door—I knew that I would die for you. So please…live for me. Just for a little while longer.”

So this book had everything a damaged anti-hero and one stubborn as hell heroine that's ready to fight her feeling to the bitter end.
Drama, angst and betrayal from where you expect it least.
Just when you think you know where this is going it changes directions on you and scrambles your thought process once more.
And it has Angels and Demons, So, Man whats not to love here.
I absolutely fell hook line and sinker for our L, he was such a damaged but deep individual and I loved how hard he fell for Eden willing to do whatever it takes to protect her and keep her safe.

“When you find something worth living for, you won’t hesitate to die for it.” A small, sad smile rests upon his lips. “We’re all dead, firecracker, yet no one really dies. Don’t worry. I’ll make my way back to you.” “You promise?” I whisper. “Even if I have to crawl my way out from the depths of Hell, I’ll never leave you. Not again.”

Sigh so heart-thumpingly swoony.

 photo Swoon_2_zpshxmagjt2.gif

Eden was that bit more difficult to get a handle on, she was a product of her upbringing and had clawed her way to adulthood with a tenuous hold on life.
While I admired her resilience and ability to adapt like a chameleon I also felt she was her own worse enemy on a course of self-sabotage she fought every good thing that came her way, I believe she had sentenced and judged herself to a solitary existence a long time past.
The secondary characters in this series were amazing, I adored them all especially the seven.
I also loved the added bonus of revisiting the Skotos family from Light/dark series that was a lovely touch and I loved that this also occupied the same world.
Only a couple issues here that bothered me and whilst this didn't dampen my enjoyment here I thought I would just flag them for others.
I thought Legion went from Mr nasty to Mr nice without explanation and I did find this a bit odd.
There was no real explanation for his big turnaround and the second considering L tells Eden he was captivated with her from the very beginning I don't get the original overall animosity he directed at her when taking her captive.
But as I said no biggie I still really enjoyed this, I was just slightly puzzled by these two facts.
So Born Sinner ended on a big Cliffhanger, like a real I need the next book right now cliffy.
And I was super, super shocked here, didn't see that one coming at all.

 photo source_zpsxzhzxfuc.gif

So to conclude this was a fantastic gripping read with fantastic world building and an engaging storyline that I really enjoyed and highly recommend.

It's been a few days since I finished Born Sinner and I still don't know how to write this review. The story was intense and so much happened in it!

You had great characters( Hello L and Lucifer, those 2 were yummy) ,sexy demons, angels, witches,.... then there was action, suspense, twists and of course some angst
So you see a perfect mix for a great paranormal book.
S.L. Jennings created a fantastic new world with great characters. I can't wait to read more especially with the way the book ended!

Loved this just as much the second time around. I meant to skim a little to refresh my mind before diving into book 2 but I found I couldn't skim once I started.
Eden is different from others. She's alone. She has never been loved not even by her parents. She's haunted by nightmares every night until one night everything changes. The seven have her and their leader L is their leader. Eden is drawn to L. When he's near her nightmares are no longer waking her up. But what happens when Lucifer comes for Eden? Can the seven protect her?

Ugh!! I want more now! I can't believe we are left hanging like that! Damn we also got more from the Dark/Light series in this one too. I'm so excited!! I can't wait to see what happens next.

I'm so glad the next book is live!! I'm off to read it!!

4 The Devil Made Me Do It Stars!

I love a good angels and demons, good vs evil, heaven and hell story, so when I saw this book a while back I made a mental note that I had to read it. Now that I have some time, I couldn't wait to jump right in and I was not disappointed.

Eden hasn't had the easiest of a life. Her mom was a little crazy and almost killed her when she tried to baptize her, convinced she was a product of the devil. Eden grew up thinking she was evil. It didn't help that she had the ability to control people just by speaking.

"We're called the Se7en. We sin so that your kind may find salvation."

After being taken from her work one night, Eden finds that she's being protected by a group of fallen angels known as the Se7en. The group leader "L" known as Legion takes personal responsibility for keeping Eden safe. The Se7en then set out to try to find out how to save Eden before "The Calling" comes for her. If she gets "called" before they figure out how to stop it, she could be used as a weapon by Lucifer, unleashing havoc onto the world.

Legion and Eden spend lots of time together, learning about one another. While Legion has vowed to protect her, even if it leads to his death, Eden struggles with this because she's never felt worthy of anything. The more time they spend together the hotter the chemistry between them grows. Steaming HOT!

Betrayal and loyalty leave this book on a cliffhanger which has left me in major need of the second book. I was glued to the pages of this book, devouring it in one day. I want more! I NEED more! Unfortunately, I have no idea when it will be released and am left to suffer while waiting. Fingers crossed that S.L. doesn't take too long to release the next book. I can't wait to read more by this author.

Title: Born Sinner
Author: S.L. Jennings
Category: Paranormal Romance
Series or Standalone: Series, Book 1
POV: Heroine's POV
Plot: 5
Characters: 5
Scorching Level: 5
HEA: Not telling...

This book was so powerful!!! They should make it into a freaking movie!
Eden has always known that she is different. Growing up without a family, the only person who loves her is her sister.
She works hard to support herself but she doesn't know that her life is about to change. One night is enough to turn her world upside down. The ability she has always kept a secret will become a weapon against her. She is taken, captured and her life is in danger. Eden must die but when her captors go out of their way to keep her alive, she knows that something is not right.
The Se7en have the ability to unleash hell on earth, but instead they sin so others can find absolution. Labelled as demons and monsters, they have a very imprtant mission. Everything in their tight circle changes when L, their leader, decides to save Eden from death.
Is she a powerful asset or a very precious pawn in the war between heaven and hell?
Eden knows that L is dangerous, but what happens when his role becomes blurred. Attraction binds her to him, but he resists.
Follow these characters as they fight for salvation.
It has been a while since I've read such a good paranormal book. The author has created an amazing world full of demons and fallen angels. The settings and characterization are out of this world. The book has this gritty quality about it that draws you in from page one. S.L. Jennings has created a fantastic set of heroes that vibrate with mystery and intrigue!

No sound of footfalls or the rasp of his breath. He'd just stood there, watching me, waiting for me to notice him.

The chemistry between our main characters is fantastic. Their push and pull relationship is enticing and will leave you biting your nails in anticipation.

...I remember that I should hate him. Should fear him. But now I fear something else entirely.
I fear myself.

~Eden

I cannot wait for the next book. Beware of the cliffy though! I need the next book now! One of the best books of the summer for me!

An intense and captivating read that will hold you hostage!! Born Sinner by S.L. Jennings was a phenomenal start of what I know will be an amazing series. Jennings has masterfully created a story that was dark, gritty, intense, and yet wildly intriguing as she brought forth and created a world where humans, angels and demons coexist. As secrets, truths, and the unknown slowly unravels, Jennings allows readers to feel the intensity and tangible connections of her characters. I know I am being vague with my review but in all honesty, this is one story where readers need to experience and read this literary world that Jennings created of humanity and supernaturals. These characters were written so flawlessly as Jennings crafts a story where readers are presented with a dilemma of sinner vs. saint, good vs. evil. Heaven vs. Hell, and angels vs. demons. With these underlying tones of mystery, Jennings has left readers wondering what will happen with Eden and L. I need book two ASAP!!

this was very corny and dare i say.. badly written? which is surprising considering the amount of corny and badly written romances i’ve given high rating too but i just could not with this. it was really annoying in the beginning how vague they were to explain what she was which annoying cause it was like the author was trying to build up what was going on but it was just dumb. also this book reminded me of shatter me. the main character was annoying and the love interest was.. there. the romance development was ass like one day he hated her then he wanted her sleeping in his bed?? bye. this is why i cannot trust tik tok recommendations what the hell are y’all reading on there?

And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And…. Then it all went to shite.

Millennia later…….

“Turn around. Walk.” I should’ve known then that I was doomed. A good girl would’ve cried.

Who wouldn’t want to continue reading after that sentence?

The Se7en roam the earth saving humanity. They sin so that we humans may find salvation.

What a bunch the Se7en are. Let me introduce the magnificent anti-hero se7en.

Toyol – demon of mystery and thievery, Phenex the conjuror, masters of all sciences, literature. The one and only famous Cain know in history. Jinn master of disguise, able to appear as one desires, Andras the demon of instigation and conflict, Lilly, a conniving and convincing bitch (I'm not going to give away who she really is) and last but not least L (the same applies here to who he actually is)

Why spoil the fun? The anticipation? The angst of the book?

Read for yourself.

The Se7en are to stop the humans that have been CALLED to fulfill their duty. They live by the motto kill one and save a million. None of them have tried to stop it until a slip of a girl entered their lives.

Eden lives on the edges of society and tries to be invisible. Her mother believed that she was seduced by the devil. Turns out she was right. Bred for destruction, a born sinner. She is nearing being CALLED.

Kidnapped and forced to end the few ties that she made she cuts her sister out of her life. Leaving her with the hope that the Se7en can help her maybe even save her.
There is more to her just being one of the called though. After an accident when she was younger she was saved by an unexpected entity. Adriel. Complex yet intriguing.

The se7en well more specifically L thinks that Eden has a purpose to fulfill. She herself isn’t too sure. Her whole life she has never felt wanted or loved but more like a burden, insignificant, inconsequential until she starts to see a different side to herself with L’s help. She is brave, strong, and persistent.

I like Eden. I rooted for her every step of the way. I still am. She has had it tough but has kept her humanity and with the shite hand that she has been dealt has survived. She needs to realize that she is worthy of love and that she does deserve forgiveness. Her nightmares are freaking scary though.

For all L’s broodiness and hardness I love him. He is the ultimate bad boy anti-hero. What is better than a hero? Yes you guessed it any anti-hero. Even is the oldest tortured, battered soul out there. There is a certain kinship with Eden though. He sees her even before she saw herself. His feelings are real.

“But you…you were born into sin. You were made for this darkness. And even though I know you are so much more than that, I feel at …home. With you, inside you, it makes me remember what it feels like to belong somewhere”

But he is lonely and his brethren aren’t what he needs. He needs Eden just like Eden needs him.

“Eden, I submit to you daily. Every moment we’re together, every time you sleep with your cheek pressed against my chest, I am submitting to a side of me that was lost a long time ago. And in those moments, I remember what I was, and what I have lost. And I hate myself for missing it.”

But not all is doom and gloom there are fun times and banter.

“I swear, it’s bad enough that he challenges all my music choices. I have to be subjected to veggie chips and turkey jerky too? Turkey is already dry as hell. Why would you dry it out even more?” “I mean, she has a point” Toyol shrugs.

“Toyol please tell your friend that Sour Patch Kids are totally healthy, and he should stop being the old fart that he is and live a little.”

Or……

“Is your pissy attitude about what happened downstairs, I’m sorry,” I say with a heaved breath. “I’m not pissy.” “Really, so you’re not talking to me because you’re being your regular happy-go-lucky self, complete with sunshine and daffodils?”

To help with their predicament they seek advice at the watcher’s house. Eden wonders off to use the bathroom and stumbles into a real life fantasy of an orgy with a man who seems familiar. Kind of weird at first but hot as hell. I felt as if it didn’t fit in the end it does make sense though. This is the ultimate fight between good and evil. With several different factions included as well. The Watcher gives them a tip of seeking the Dark Fee, enter King Dorian. As if I don’t have enough books to read they have now made it onto my radar. Gah! Damn you woman!

Although Eden was betrayed by one of those she loved she still sacrificed herself for her family, friends and even without knowing it the love that she had for L.

My initial response to writing up some of my notes beforehand with the book was that I couldn’t give it the full 5 stars because of the non-existent/existent relationship between the H/h and for the fact is that Eden constantly doubts L and why he should save her. Yes, I get it. It all has to do with her insecurities but it was one too many times. I was only going to give it 4 stars. Let’s hope her sacrifice will be for nothing. But then….

In the end it is a 5 star read.

It has been a very long time that I have read a GOOD book about Angels and Demons. On top of that this is also my first book by Ms. Jennings and I think we hit it off with Born Sinner.

Ms. Jennings has taken a topic that has been used on numerous occasions but has turned and twisted it in to something utterly unique. Her story telling is flawless, unique, riveting, spell binding. I could go on but you get my drift. When it comes to this genre I'm a tough customer and I don’t read everything.

I would recommend this book and as there is no real date of the release of the next installment. My fate has been decided. Actually this is also a book that I am prepared to wait for. Hopefully. I think. Hurry up woman!

***** 5 "Ultimate Sin" Stars *****

First off......THIS BOOK WAS FABULOUS AND I LOVED BEYOND WORDS. Never in a million years did I ever expect to love a paranormal romance filled with angels and demons and fall so madly in love with the story. This one is definitely hard to review as you just need to read it to fully understand what is going on.

 photo eden_zpsub7aifo5.jpg

Forgotten, is the story of Eden's life. Her mother tried killing her at the age of 5 to rid Eden of all her evilness. Then being pushed into foster care and never feeling loved or wanted, Eden just existed. Nothing has changed now, Eden just lives life trying to blend in and not be noticed.

Eden has a secret. A secret that no one can know as she released a dark evil that can end the lives of many.

Eden also has watchful eyes on her. Eyes she never sees but she can feel them. A day comes when those eyes save her life and also bring forth a light that Eden is not sure she wants to see about herself.

 photo legion_zps9zqci1yw.jpg

Legion is the leader of the Se7en group of fallen Angels. They are their to protect the millions on Earth from the evil of one person. One person his group is out to contain is Eden. She is weapon that can cause mass destruction. But their mission changes courses when Legion knows he can not end Eden's life. He has an attachment to her. An attachment that stems back thousands of years.

The bond between Legion and Eden is beyond anything she has ever experienced in her life.

"He sees me to my soul. He sees all the ugly, all the pain. All the desire kindling within my trembling flesh."

 photo legion1_zpsrjmdqxyu.jpg

"His touch is like heroine glitter in my veins."

To protect Eden from the world that is out to get her. Legion must sacrifice everything he is and has been for so many years. He must fight Hell to keep her safe even if she hands her life over to Hell.

THIS BOOK IS FREAKING AWESOME!! READ READ READ READ!!!!!

Now on a touch of crappiness....this book is a cliffhanger and you will feel like you are going to fall off a cliff at the end of this one. BOOK 2....please come to my greedy little fingers...NOW!!!

Olaylar olaylar olaylar.

Kitabın ilk yarısında dili bana rahatsız edici gelmedi, ama son yarısı sanki aceleyle gözden geçirilmiş gibiydi, hatalar biraz fazlaydı. Editörün görmediğini bari son okumacı görseydi diyorum.

İkinci kitabı çevirideymiş, serinin kaç kitap olacağını falan hiç bilmiyorum, aslında Türkçe olsa şu an ikiyi okurdum :D İngilizce okumak istemiyorum, ama dayanamazsam okurum.

Sanırım benim bir müddet damardan böyle rahat fantastik kitaplar almam lazım, önerisi olan? :)

I freaking LOVED this book. So much so that my poor friend is getting bombed with gifs and texts.

I can't even explain my emotions still because I don't want to spoil anything, but I truly loved it.
I loved L and that alone makes me question my damn sanity. Everything about this book unfolded in a heartbreaking and beautiful way. If you love paranormal then you need to read this book. If you don't love paranormal, you need to read this book. It's one that you can relate to, love, and become completely immersed in.

*sigh*

OH HELL!!!!!!

4 to 4,5 "sinful" stars

If you loved the Dark Light series by SL Jennings, you'll love this one too, especially as Dorian and Gabriella make an appearance.

It's dark and light, sinfully erotic at some moments, really gore at others (her nightmares are just horrifying) and it ends on a cliffhanger!

All characters are in shade of grey and I love it about these stories. Nothing is clear cut, the demons are not totally evil and the angels are not the goody-goody guys either.

Our female character is Eden. She's been bred to wreak havoc and destruction on mankind but has been named Eden..see the sarcasm? Because I did! She's a loner as she can hurt many humans with her words and she's also been hurt time and again by her crazy mother. I would also prefer my own company under such circumstances.

She has no idea what she truly is until her kidnapping by seven big bad scary guys (one is a girl). Their leader "L" is the biggest and strongest of the bunch. She'll soon learn their purpose is to kill abominations like her but for a reason I won't explain, they want to spare and protect her. They hope to help her beating fate and give her salvation. That's another irony in this book when you know what these men and woman really are.

There will be death, pain, lust, deep deep lust, hope, despair and many twists and secrets unearthed. I still think we don't really know the real reason why "L" is "like that" (no spoiler) with Eden.

Now once again bane of my existence, begins the long wait for the second installment.

My dear friend (she'll recognize herself I'm certain) you have to read it as you loved The Dark Light so much!

3.5 Pretty Good Stars

I started several S.L. Jennings reads. I see her books all around and I’m seduced by the covers. I’ve never actually finished her books until now.

Overall Born Sinner was an okay book. There were plenty of high moments where I couldn’t put it down and there were plenty dull moments I was super-fast reading to get through. She’s a narrative writer, which usually isn’t my cuppa but her descriptive writing help paints a pretty picture for you.

I love me a good paranormal book, you thrown in some steamy sex scenes and I’m all over that. What I enjoyed most about this read were the steamy scenes because it was hot. The tension the author builds between the two main characters is wonderful and that is what made me stay with the book and finish it.

Eden is the Heroine and she’s not my favorite character, look or personality wise. She has piercings and silver hair, gross. I know call me what you want, but I’m just not into that. She also is evil. She thrives on evil but she doesn’t want to because she knows it’s wrong.

I struggled to like Eden because I felt like she tried to be “good” but she came across as really whinny. I felt like she should have been a strong character, but to me she wasn’t. I do like that she was confused most of the time. It made me feel like I could relate to her better.

Legion, “L” is the Hero. He’s part of the Se7en group and he’s the most powerful one. I liked L overall, but there was something about him I couldn’t grasp firmly. He’s so tortured, but it didn’t come across genuine, kind of like it was forced on me. I do like a Hero with a complex, but there was something off about his character.

Sometimes I found chemistry between Eden and L and sometimes I felt like it was forced. There was a lot of fluff in between the dialogue and I felt like it separated the romance from the book. Like there was plot and a side attraction, but it never mixed together well. I know it doesn’t make sense, but that is my feelings.

I see the reviews on this book and I can see why people like it. I think I just have an issue with the writing style and it’s okay. Every author writes differently and it works for a lot of people. I will say that I will read book 2. I’m curious now that I got my feet wet in the series and I may be able to enjoy it more. I will also adventure in her dark light series just to get my paranormal fix again.

3.5

I just finished reading the author's entire Dark Light series. I absolutely loved it! I am not sure if that is affecting the way I feel about this story or not. Obviously, I went into this book with high expectations, and I know sometimes that can be problematic. I was so excited to have another paranormal story to read by S.L. Jennings. I read it in a couple of days. Her writing style is really easy to get into, and the book had an interesting premise. In the end, I just had mixed feelings about it.

The biggest issues I had with the book probably happened more in the first 50 or 60 percent of the story. I didn't connect with the main characters as much as I would have liked throughout that part. That is a pretty big chunk of time to feel that way. I felt the relationships and connections between the Seven more than the romantic relationship between Eden and Legion. This made me not like the story as much as I would have otherwise. However, I did wind up feeling more invested in it by the end of the book. Some aspects of the story weren't explained well enough, or there wasn't enough time spent on them (though we will probably learn more in subsequent books).

There was a few things about Born Sinner that I absolutely loved. We get to see what the characters in the Dark Light series are up to. In fact, I'm sure we will be seeing them in future books. I was ecstatic to find this out. I love that this book is set in the same world as that one. I had no idea it was at first, because it is focused on different types of supernatural beings. If you have read the Dark Light series, you will appreciate this book more. You will understand more about Gabriella and the Skotos brothers, as well as find out something that was left kind of ambiguous at the end of that series. I almost wanted to give it 5 stars just for the inclusion of these characters and that extra bit of information! Last, but not least...the ending. It was the strongest part of the whole book to me. It was a cliffhanger that left me wanting more so I will be continuing with the series when the next book is released. Being totally honest, I would read it just to see the Skotos family again anyway. Lol

When I saw this author had a new book out, especially in the paranormal genre, I couldn’t wait to give it a try. Here's my breakdown:

Pros:
* Kindleunlimited
* Interesting story concept

Cons:
* The first 25% of this book had me constantly thinking "what the hell was going on" - it just throws you into the story with no background etc.
* I wasn’t a fan of the heroine - she just had a weak feel to her character
* The romance was pretty blah - I didn’t see the hero as having genuine love/interest in the Eden. It seemed misguided
* Ends on a damn cliffhanger
* Not necessarily a safe read (the hero kisses another woman in front of the heroine and she in turn participates in some group orgy following this scene - I could have done without this entire episode)

When all is said and done, I'm hesitant if I will continue this series. I doubt I will sense I wasn’t really a fan of the characters and it ended on a cliffhanger though.

Reread Review 4/8/18

4 "Still Sinfully Good" Stars!

I am so glad I did a reread of this one. I picked up on some things I either forgot about it didn't catch then first time. I probably didn't catch them... Anywho I basically have the same overall feelings as I did the first time. Only both Eden and Legion got on my nerves just a little bit. I understand both POVs but he could communicate better and she could get some self esteem. But I'm rooting hard for them. It I may be rooting hard for the fate of the world. I've already moved on to book 2 because that CLIFFHANGER THOUGH! This series may do me in... Happy reading!

Original Review 9/17/16

4 "Sinfully good" Stars!

Dark, gritty, mysterious, intense, debauched. Down right scary (for me, but I'm a chicken) at times, but I kind of loved it. This was the kind of story that sucks me right in. I didn't necessarily love the MCs, but the situation they were in caused me to root so hard for them. There were also a few things I didn't like about the story. Adriel- The Jumper- being the main thing. I wish The Jumper situation had been explained a bit more. The other thing I wanted more of was L and the Se7en displaying more special abilities and/or powers. They seemed to be well trained, fast, strong fighters rather than paranormal beings. I kept waiting for them to show off some super ability, sense, something... Also kept waiting for Eden to get her BA on. Maybe all this will be on display in book two. Which brings me to MAJOR COMPLAINT NUMBER ONE! This bad boy ends in a major CLIFFHANGER! Ugghh! I wanted to throw my Kindle through the dang wall! I have since calmed down and realized I really liked what was written and life will not end because I have to wait on the next book. So that's what I'll do. Stalk S.L. Jennings social media and website until I at least know a release date. (Deep breath in... slow release out...) I may try the DARK LIGHT series in the mean time. Happy reading!

ARC provided by author in exchange for an honest review

Cliffhanger alert!
Book hangover alert!

I usually don't read paranormal romance, it is just not my thing, and I have been avoiding it like a plague... until now. I made an exception with this book because I was hooked from the blurb!
And that prologue! OMG! I couldn't put it down!
How about the cover? Holly hell!
I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book.
I never thought I could love a paranormal romance this much. I truly didn't.
This books has demons and fallen angels, and I was like... WHAT? What am I reading?
But I just couldn't stop. My brain was working like a steam machine, I wanted more and more.
So, if you are into paranormal/dystopian romance, you will love this! LOVE IT!
I tried to find words to describe this book, and came up with intense, captivating, angsty, powerful... and just simply amazing!
I really don't want to spoil too much for all you readers, since I think you should just get into this completely blind. Don't read the reviews, just pick this up. You won't be sorry.
I need a second book NOW!
S.L. Jennings, please, don't make us wait too long!

4.5 I never said I fought fair stars

The first thing I noticed about this book was that it is so well written. Seriously. Each line was like pure poetry.

There were so many lines that were highlighted, I thought I share a few with you...

"He carries the burden of lost souls. I carry the weight of my own vicious demons. We are different, yet kindred in so many ways. As if the universe or God or some other force greater than the both of us had been waiting for us to find each other."

"He is need. He is passion. He is fire. And he can only be extinguished inside me."

"This girl had chosen to be an asset rather than a victim. She would not be a martyr in the face of adversity. She would stand and fight, despite her mortal weakness. Despite her destiny. She would fight...and win."

Pretty much, I need the next book ASAP!!!

Born Sinner started engrossing at the beginning  and then it was blaaaahh. It's a dark paranormal romance with average angsty elements of world build. The hero is a goody-two shoes and his character nature he is a demon, accordingly he has to come out as a hard core personality. I was tempted by angels and demons however everything wasn't overblown, the devils are devilish thankfully it wasn't cheesy. Some parts of the book the story was preoccuping but at various aspects it gets dull.

**3.Se7en Stars**

"Just please...don't shut yourself off from the world. Don't pretend like it doesn't bother you-like it doesn't hurt you-because you think being alone is easier than being forgotten."

This book had me hooked from page 1. Oh my goodness I loved it! I knew it was going to be a 5 star right from the beginning. I didn't want to put it down.

"The pain you've inflicted, the wrong you've done-all derived from your own inner turmoil. Adriel gave you the gun, but you loaded the ammunition and fired."

This book made me think and feel. It had moments where I just had to put it down, take a deep breath, stare at the wall and think.

"Toyol, please tell your friend that sour patch kids are totally healthy, and he should stop being the old fart that he is and live a little."

It did have some pretty funny parts too which I loved. ;) (He was acting like an old fart.)

"When you find something worth living for, you won't hesitate to die for it."

I loved it. 5 out of this world stars!

So here's the thing.. I kind of hated this book. Like I hated it a whole lot. None of it worked for me on any level. I hated the writing. I hated the characters. I especially hated Eden and Legion. HATED them. There was zero connection. He refused to have a solid conversation with her. I also hated the story. I haven't ever been a huge fan of angel/demon books. And this one gah some humans were 'called' to do bad things and demons kill them to protect the human race? Yeah NO!

Why did I finish this book? For one reason and one reason only. I wanted to know why Legion NEEDED to save Eden because I just didn't get it. So that's it and I didn't want to skip any parts because I thought hey maybe it gets better. But it doesn't.
