I am a USA-TODAY best-selling author with 41 years, 76 books, and numerous writing awards behind me. My major genre is historical romance. I have always written for standard publishers but am now writing strictly for Amazon so I have more freedom to write real history. My most recent publication is SHADOW TRAIL, the 6th book in my Outlaw Hearts series. I also wrote and published my first full-length contemporary story, DANCING BENEATH YOU, in September 2022, a romance involving mystery and a depiction of reservation life in the Badlands of South Dakota. My best sellers are my SAVAGE DESTINY series (7 books) and my OUTLAW HEARTS series. See my website (www.rosannebittner.com) for details on all my books - most available for Kindle and in print. I am known for great love stories filled with real history and high emotion. I have also written many Native American stories, all based on real history.

I love American history. For those of you who have not yet read my books, my stories are generally set in the American West of the 1800s and feature vividly described, historically accurate settings that span the US from Missouri to California, from Canada to Mexico. Many of my books portray the poignant history of our Native Americans, and though the characters are my own, I use real historical locations and events in all my novels. I have also written about the French & Indian wars, American Revolution, the War of 1812, the war with Mexico (the Alamo), and the Civil War.

National magazine ROMANTIC TIMES has called me the "Queen of Western Romance" and an "emotional powerhouse." My husband and I have traveled the west for nearly 40 years and I have visited just about every location mentioned in my books.

Summary
Jake and Miranda Harkner have endured triumphs and sorrows, have stayed true to each other for almost thirty years. They have endured all the dangers that the wild west could have thrown at them. But their story is far from over. Jake and Miranda are on the brink of celebrating their thirtieth wedding anniversary. They are now settled in the Colorado Hill Country, Jake is working along side with his son Lloyd. Sharing every spare moment with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren. Despite his age, Jake doesn't look or act his age especially when surrounded by his family. But Jake is still haunted by his past especially by the nightmares his father evokes. He still doubts himself and his worthiness to be part of this beautiful family he has. Enemies of Jake and Randy's are going to come back and cause their peace to be disrupted in the worst of ways. But Jake and Miranda have the strongest love that can stand the tide of any storm.
Plot and Story Line
WHEW!!! I am still on a book hangover from this story....Rosanne Bittner has done it again and I can never get enough of these two together!! Their love is EPIC and different and so unique but both of these two will be challenged in ways they don't expect to find. I read this in one sitting---it was so good!! Normally it takes me a couple of days to read a book from her, especially since they are longer in length than the average book however....I stayed up ALL night long to read this book and so worth it. It sets off with Jake and Miranda spending some quality alone time together in a small shack cabin that is their refuge.
Big and strong as you are on the outside, you've grown so much stronger on the inside"

He kissed her eyes "You keep me strong."

Their lips meets again, their passion no different than it was nearly thirty years ago when he took her for the first time...when he was a lost soul...when she showed him everything he didn't know about love.

Life soon interrupts them though. They receive word that one of the outlaws that was involved in their daugher Evie's rape attack, has been released early from prison. Jake knows that he will be gunning for him and most especially his son Lloyd. But on the night of celebration in Denver, at a ball of dancing---the worst of the worst happens. Jake almost loses his son, and almost loses his mind in rage and pain.
My son is in so much pain--pain he shouldn't be suffering! It rips my heart out every time I have to hold him down because of that pain. I can't stand seeing him suffer! I failed him, Evie! I failed my Son! All those years we rode together and had each other's backs...and then we go to a simple civilized affair, and he's gunned down right in front of me! That man took my precious son in cold blood. The old old Jake came roaring back so now you know the man who fathered you, and you see why I can't believe something as good and beautiful as you even came from my seed. I am what I am, Evie and everything I touch gets hurt. That young man lying in that bed is worth Ten of me---a hundred of me! His voice began to beak and he put his head in his hands.

"I do see that man, Daddy. I saw him when you pulled the trigger. But I refuse to recognize that man as my loving and gentle father. He's not the man who is married to the most devoted and gracious woman I know--the man who has grandchildren who need to see their granpa come back home to the J&L, and when he does, they need him to be the only kind of man they've ever known as their grandfather.

Jake will soon have to face the music of the law, and the whole Harkner family will need to come together like never before to keep their family together and show Jake Harkner the power of love and family. But their anguishes do not end there...there is much more in store for Jake and Miranda and their whole family. A event that will prove them in ways they couldn't ever imagine, where Jake will need to be the rock for Miranda.

Man these two could cause a heart attack...I swear I couldn't stop the tears or the bursts of laughter. This family is so heartwarming and I love their close ties to each other. They are such a close knit family and even the sweet moments were so precious to read. We get all of our favorite family members and friends of course!!! We get more of Jeff our fellow journalist that followed Jake's career in "Do Not Forsake Me" and also a friend of the family, Peter. Then the two kids Lloyd and Evie and their spouses with their charming kids and of course we have Mini Jake. Now this grandson of Jake and Miranda's, the son of Evie's is a riot!! He is exactly like adult Jake only mini sized. Then we also have some of the ranch hands that have followed Jake and Miranda over the years and stayed loyal. What really impressed me is how Bittner can keep this story of Jake and Miranda so vibrant and real. This is a couple that will stay with you for years to come, and she did a superb job in creating more dilemma's for these two. Their love gets really tested, and it doesn't end with this book!! It does leave a bit of a teaser for the fourth book. What I did enjoy was seeing that Jake and Miranda are both individually tested. And yes there are moments especially toward the end that just about breaks my heart and I honestly couldn't stop the tears flowing in certain moments. I did like the turn that Jake had to be the strong one of the two. Over the years, Miranda is the one that has been his strength, his rock and has kept him from going insane. But we get a turn of events, where Miranda needs Jake more than ever, and despite how he feels he is forced to put it all aside to be what his wife needs him to be----a rock for her to lean on through the storm.
Every time I touch you, it's because I honor you and need you and adore you and love you more than my own life

This is a story for any romance lover, it doesn't matter if you like historical romance or not---this is a MUST READ for any reader!!
The Cover
What a beautiful cover!!! Sourcebooks has done a brilliant job with this cover and it relates with the book so well. I love how they made these two look more mature but not OLD. I love the backdrop with the sunset, and the pose on the grass. I love her yellow dress (which she wears one in the book)
Overall View
Love's Sweet Revenge is a tale that continues an epic love that is tested in bittersweet ways---a story that will entangle you through every emotion and make you fall in love like it was for the first time!! A love story that is epic and heart-stopping good!! TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY!

The past just would not leave them to their peace. Larger than life, a hard, ruthless former outlaw who has gone straight must continually fight bitterly tough battles to keep his family safe and keep his darker side at bay. The author has created a magnificent legend of the west in her hero, Jake Harker. Jake is just a man, but his words and deeds make the reader a believer. I laughed, I cried, I bit my nails, and I sighed as I entered the Outlaw world once again.

This historical family saga continues late into the lives of Jake and Randy, their grown children and precocious grandchildren with this third installment of the Outlaw series that really should be read in order to get the full experience.

Jake and his family have settled in Colorado on their own 50,ooo acre spread. Lloyd is his partner and they are grooming the younger generation to take over. Life is good for the Harkers and their hands. Randy loves seeing Jake have the life he has earned through hard efforts to reform and be the man she loves. But Jake can't understand what others see in him or why his beautiful wife, children and grandchildren can love him.

Jake may be pushing sixty, but he is still not a man to be trifled with whether it is a band of rustlers, a puffed up state prosecutor out to nail him to the wall, or conniving bitter men bent on exacting a deadly revenge against Jake and Lloyd.

Unfortunately, the west is changing and Jake and Lloyd must change with it if they wish to remain free and on the right side of the law. Trouble comes to the Harkers and brings back the fearful days of Oklahoma when death shadowed them and the law might not be enough to protect the family. In a moment, Jake is faced with an awful situation and his old steely-eyed self leaps into action. Randy and the family fear what will happen now as Jake faces the threat of prison or hanging. Old friends come to support them and do what they can, but will it be enough?

Alright, this was a fantastic read from cover to cover. It was an ode to the Harkers- a love fest that I was happy to indulge in for the most part. The book is slow through several parts, but it is varied with intense internal conflict and the excitement and danger of exterior conflict. It builds to not one, but a few big climax moments with the reader left holding her breath and flipping pages quickly.

Jake and Randy are at the heart of this story, but the scope has widened to include Lloyd and Katie and Evie and Brian, Jeff and Peter, along with the older grandchildren. Their story is all one. The line from Jake to Lloyd to Little Jake to show how each generation carries on the Harkers was clearly made.

The past having bearing on the present and how each character handles it is a strong thematic element. Jake is racked with guilt and feelings that he doesn't deserve anything good. Randy fights the fear that Jake will leave and not come back to her. Evie and Brian have faced down the terrors from her rape. Lloyd must learn to forgive himself for long ago deserting the family. The author paints her characters with flaws as well as strengths.

The western history aspect of the story was strong and supported the romance and action plot. The author portrayed the latter years of the 1800s in Colorado, ranch life, and changes in the law and society well. There were hard hitting situations and elements. Outlaws, whores, city folk, law officers, ranchers, and more wove through the story offering color and scope.

All in all, I was enthralled and wanted nothing more than to remain in the world of the Harkers. I'm so glad there is to be one more book for sure. Those who love sagas and Western romance really need to treat themselves to this series and this author's books.

My thanks to Sourcebooks Casablanca for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

How do you know you've encountered a book that will leave you breathless and satisfied, but yet turn around and make you intensely crave more? When you start re-reading the book before you've even got a third of the way through! And that's what happened to me with the 3rd book in Jake and Randy's story. Seriously, I was re-reading entire chapters and going back through to favorite sections just because I just didn't want to leave that moment in time yet and wanted to make my escape into the Colorado mountains with the Harkners last as long as possible. And it was the best experience! I had a 2 week book hangover from Love's Sweet Revenge and I'm still having a hard time settling into any new books and having them feel "good enough" after this.

I am finding the older I get, the more I seek out and enjoy books written about older characters - whether they're starting over with a new relationship or if they've been together for decades and have some new trials to face together. That's one thing I love about Rosanne Bittner's books - she has this ability to write beautifully epic stories that span all ages and show that love grows more beautiful and strong as the years go by.

Jake Harkner at any age is an incredible force to be reckoned with. I can't tell you how many times I was swoonin' over how his presence flowed out of the book and throughout my house. The intensity he has towards loving and protecting his family is a sight to behold. He has done so much growing and changing - it's been a pleasure to be a part of his journey. I think I've lost a bigger part of my heart to him and not sure I'll ever recover -- or want to!

Randy still is my heroine soul-mate. I love her mix of strength, sassy, and vulnerability - the way she holds herself together, but yet is dependent on being held in return. She has this natural balance to her that while yes, she can take care of herself, she needs to be taken care of as well, and the people she's surrounded by sense that and give that to her. She in turn gives so much to her husband and family and the bond they all share and continue to mold and solidify is all in thanks to her. I want to be her.

I love the family dynamic with their kids, Lloyd and Evie, and their spouses and all the grandkids. Family and love is a huge theme and it's definitely shown and developed throughout the entire series, but even more so in LSR. I adored getting to have the 2ndary storylines of Lloyd and Katie, Evie and Brian, and their kids.

Rosanne Bitter has a way of drawing me so tightly into the story and painting her characters so realistically that for the time I'm reading, I'm fully invested in the story. I feel every emotion the characters are. When they hurt and struggle, I am in pain. When they rejoice, I'm on an excited high. When they play and joke, I'm laughing along with. When the worse happens, I'm feeling as abandoned and lost as they are. Very few authors can give me a new reality, and RB gives her readers that time and time again.

This is not a book to be missed, whether you read this alone, or after Outlaw Hearts and Do Not Forsake Me. Although you definitely will get a better experience if you start at the beginning, you will not be lacking anything if you jump in with this book first (and then go back and get the others, of course!). I am looking forward to many rereads of the first three books and am already getting anxious waiting for The Last Outlaw (book 4) coming Sept 2017. Thank goodness there's another story coming because my craving for more will finally hopefully be satisfied. (ha!)

I enjoyed this book! Now that I am a little bit older, I do appreciate it when a book features a more mature couple. Jake and Miranda have been together for thirty years and have been through a lot in those years. Their children are grown with children of their own and the whole family plays a prominent role in this story. This is the third book in the Outlaw Hearts series, which should be read in order if at all possible, and the story picks up shortly after the events of the previous installment.

Jake and Miranda, along with the rest of their family, are now living on their ranch in Colorado wanting a quieter and more peaceful life. Of course, trouble seems to find this family, and Jake is soon forced to protect his land, his cattle, and Miranda. This family has been through a lot and they have proved to be resilient if nothing else. Things look really dire at a couple of points in this story and I was eager to see how things would work out for them. This story had no shortage of exciting scenes which were nicely balanced with the more heartfelt moments.

I would recommend this book to others. This is a really emotional story with characters that feel near and dear to my heart. I love how each member of the family plays a big role in the story, including the grandchildren. My only complaint is that the story felt a little too long. I can’t wait to read the next book in this wonderful series.

I received a digital review copy of this book from Sourcebooks Casablanca.

Initial Thoughts
This was good, although probably a little longer than it should have been. I have grown to love the characters over the course of the series and really appreciate the fact that Jake and Miranda are a little older. There were some pretty exciting scenes and some that were more heartfelt. I do look forward to picking up the next installment soon.

The third book of this series. Miranda’s and Jake’s relationship is continuing on, with obstacles in the way even though Jake has left his marshal job and moved to the ranch.

Another wonderful read. The action was not too long, and kept me at the edge of my seat. Their love for each other never ceases to surprise me because it is really deep and everlasting.

With over 63 books written, Rosanne Bittner, The Powerful Undisputed Queen of Western Historical Romance has delivered her 3rd book in the epic Outlaw Hearts Series, Loves Sweet Revenge.
Readers will be blown away with the emotional aspect delivered in this book. The way Ms. Bittner delivers a story is phenomenal and her characters are written so profoundly, one believes they will be greeted by them again, up in heaven.
Powerful, emotional, and superbly written.
Jake Harkner, outlaw turned lawman, turned rancher, and his beautiful wife, Randy, of 30 years face the most challenging time of their lives. After living peacefully the last 4 years on their Colorado ranch in the foothills of the Rockies, The Harkner family must band together in spirit to save their family's patriarch. Jake has lived his whole life trying to keep his dark side in check from an incident that occurred when he was a young boy by his father. Randy had been his saving grace, but can her love and the love of his children and grandchildren save the infamous Jake Harkner and his Colt 44's, now? The most gripping book I've ever read and an explosive ending that will leave you, Speechless. Can Love truly be Jake's Sweet Revenge? If you loved Outlaw Hearts and Do Not Forsake Me, you'll be mesmerized by Loves Sweet Revenge. As Lloyd told Jake, "Revenge can be sweet, and it doesn't always mean needing a gun."

4 1/2 Stars...

I absolutely LOVED the first 2 books in this series. Although I really enjoyed this one as well, it just wasn't as great as those 2.

This series is probably one of my absolute favorites and it has brought way more tears to my eyes than I would've ever dreamed possible (especially since I'm not a crier). This family and Jake Harkner just can't be topped. They're awesome!

My only real issue with this book was that up until the end, I felt that it was intimate moment after intimate moment. I was wanting some more action and adventure and less time in the sack. It was just overkill. There weren't as many "bad guys" in this book as the others but when those moments came, they were exciting, and made this series what it is.

Good book, Great Series. I highly recommend this series as a whole.

I liked Jake you could tell he was head over heels for his woman, "he drank in the sight of her. “Woman, I am definitely in the present.”He picked her up and laid her on the bed, then threw aside his jacket and unstrapped his guns. He sat down on the bed and pulled off his boots." I liked this book there were some emotional scenes, where I didn't know how I'd get through, but I did and I enjoyed this book.

This was another fantastic installation of this series. I just can't seem to get enough of Jake Harkner and his family, my true love being Lloyd, his son. Jake has it going on too, but Lloyd is the voice of reason when Jake is diving into his dark place and keeps his father on an even keel when his mother can't. She can always keep Jake on track, but evil befell her and she wasn't able to for a while. *No spoilers*

Jake and Randy have been married for thirty years now. They've finally found peace and contentment on their ranch in Colorado, most of which Lloyd owns, having put down most of the money for it from his inheritance from Beth, his first wife, who was quite wealthy. The whole family moved from Oklahoma where Jake and Lloyd were US Marshals, trying to rein in crime and making enemies along the way.

The family is situated on the J&L Ranch, running cattle and horses. Jake and Randy are surrounded by Lloyd and Evie, their spouses, and their children. It's harmonious. Everybody works hard, everybody is happy, and the past is left behind until they make a trip to Denver and attend the Cattleman's Ball.

I'm going to leave it there because I don't want to ruin this for anybody else. Suffice it to say, I was on the edge of my seat, crying, marveling at just how much Jake loves his son...yeah, it was worthy of tears.

But it doesn't stop there. The adventure continues until the very last page and into the next book, although there is no cliffhanger. The dynamics of this family is captivating and kept me turning the pages.

I do have one thing to say about Little Jake, Evie's oldest child. That kid needs some sort of discipline. He doesn't listen to anybody, runs his mouth reckless, and is just obnoxious as hell. I know he's supposed to be a kid version of his grandfather, but he's headed for disaster if they don't rein him in. He's a live wire. Nobody knows what he's going to do next and the only one he listens to is Jake. Not his own mother or father. Just Jake and that's not even all the time. I don't want anything bad to happen to this kid, but I do want somebody to straighten him out. I got tired of his antics and belligerence. He runs everybody and he's a kid. Not cool.

Still a stellar read.

I do recommend reading this series in order.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Their Passion Shaped a Nation

Over the years, Jake and Miranda Harkner have endured all the dangers a wild and brutal West could throw at them. Now, settled on their ranch in the beautiful Colorado hill country, they’ve finally found peace. But for a man like Jake Harkner, danger is always lurking, and the world may not be ready for an infamous outlaw-turned-lawman-turned-legend to hang up his guns.

Threatened by cruel men in search of revenge, the Harkner clan must be stronger than ever before. Yet nothing can stop the coming storm. With the Old West dying around them and the rules of this new world ever-changing, Jake vows to end the threat to his family no matter what it takes…

Even if it means sacrificing himself so his beloved Miranda may live.

My Thoughts

If ever a story deserved to be given the title of Epic Saga this third book would fit that description. From the beginning to the end the trials and tribulations faced by Jake Harkner and his family are of the variety both anxiety inducing to the reader as well as heartrendingly emotionally traumatic for the characters who must live through them.

This fictional family has become near and dear to me over the course of three novels, the best way to state it is to say they have become book family members and stalwart friends that I would be happy to call my own if real people.

At a mere 45% in their dream of peaceful living on the ranch in Colorado had been too short for the now extended by many members of the Harkner family. But never a dull moment for readers of the book or lack of up and downs emotionally on behalf of the group of characters, both old and new.

At 85% of the book I found the Harkner’s having the worst luck so far and now of all the trials they have faced in the past this next one will either end up with Jake himself dead, in jail or redeemed forever more. Personally at this point think he deserves a break but what happens in the rest of the story is what shows how truly remarkable this man is and exactly how beloved he is by not only family but those few friends he has allowed to get close to him over the years.

The final test that Jake must undertake though is the one where the men are separated from the boys and where everything he has faced before pales in comparison.

Be prepared with boxes of tissues because you will so need them to read these last chapters of this book for sure!

From the start of this series I have been consumed with the rugged realism of the locales, characters, scenarios and most of all the sheer passionate love affair of Jake and Miranda.

Following them for 30 years through good times and bad has been an experience that has given me joy right along with sorrow as the couple faced trial after trial together forging an unbreakable bond that endears them to readers over and over as each book unfolds.

Loooove this series and I'm so happy we have one more coming! I loved this one a lot more than book 2. It took a little while to get going but once it does, its action packed! I love jake but I have to admit there were times when his "woe is me" stuff got tiresome and repetitive. I totally understand all his issues, but he's not the only one who's ever gone through crap and so I really liked when Lloyd would kind of give him those talks to open his eyes. I don't expect it goes away, but I didn't need to keep hearing his father was a jerk a million times, we got it. But other than that little stuff the story itself was amazing but heartbreaking as well. As hard as the end stuff was, I loved seeing jake go crazy over Miranda and then Miranda being the one to exact her own revenge. It was important she be the one to do it and her reason for doing it was so sad yet sweet. She's a strong woman and I know in book 4, especially with evie's help, she'll get stronger one day at a time.

Looking forward to THE LAST OUTLAW!

Ps.. Omg little jake is the best! He gives jake a run for his money and he's only 7! Lol him and his little fist he makes gets me everytime!

This series was recommend to me by a dear friend, I wasn't to happy with the first book but as it went on I got more and more in to it. This third book, blew me away. I like how the author put a family tree inside the book. as I read I experienced happiness, sadness, and I can't believe that happen. so many emotions in this 3rd book. the part that really got to me was the part, where brad took Jake's wife, and did unspeakable things to her. but good ole Jake, he found her. it got so bad that I had to stop reading even tho i was close to finishing it, I was so upset I couldn't read anymore. As i pulled my emotions together and finished the book, I was sad, that it ended. I really like Little Jake, with his bad attitude and when he calls everyone a S.O. B. and shakes his fist. I like the fact that little Jake and Stephen made a pact to be just like Lloyd and Jake. that gives me hope that the series will carry on, with the next generation of Jake's grand kids. I feel that Jake's and Randy's time is soon over as they are up in age and are bound to leave this world, but I feel that they will leave together and spend eternity together. I cannot wait till the next book comes out,

The Queen of the Western Historical takes you on the grandest ride yet of her career. Loves Sweet Revenge opens to Jake and Miranda (Randy) Harkner finally enjoying the peace they have so long sought after for nearly 30 years, or have they truly found that peace for a man that has lived Outlaw then lawman? He definitely has made enemies and when they attack all he holds dear he takes care of things the only way he knows how. Then yet when Jake's guns can't completely fix a wrong committed he must fix in a way he never has before, drawing for the first time on the goodness and inner strength his beloved wife, daughter and son has always told him is inside of him. Although he has never seen it himself, he has to finally believe it or forever lose all that is precious to him. Can Jake learn that Love is the Sweetest Revenge of all?

Love's Sweet Revenge takes up where "Do Not Forsake" leaves off. You find Jake, Miranda and their children and grandchildren have settled in the Colorado Hills on their ranch. Life is good and the family is growing.
Because of Jake's past, danger is never far away. From cattle rustlers, to family member of people that have crossed Jake in the past. You never know what lies ahead for the family.
You will be drawn in once again into the family and will be reacquainted with family old and new family members. You will hurt when family members are hurt and be happy when the family is happy. This book had many twists and turns that I wasn't expecting, and this left me wanting more and more. Once again Rosanne Bittner has out done herself; and I say that with every book that I read of hers and she has never disappointed me.

It's amazing the love shared between Randy and Jake. That love is so hard to find. I can hardly wait for the next book. I can only imagine what Randy will go through to heal. I sure hope we hear more of little Jake. He's a pistol. You need to write a series of the grandkids as they grow up. You by far are the best historical romance author ever. Thanks for all you write about life and hardship of the old days.

I loved this book! Fast paced, powerful novel of the old west with just
the right amount of suspense. The love between Jake and his wife Miranda is so powerful and true.
You just don't want this story to end. Well worth reading all three books in the series!

This time around I'm reading these books back to back. I just love all these characters so very much and I'm loving them all just as much this time.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I simply can’t review this book without a preconceived bias. Ever since I read Outlaw Hearts when it was first published, it won a place in my heart as well as in my top 5 books of all time and in all the years since then it’s stayed in the top 5. Although there are many that come close, this is my favourite Western. I read it at least every few years and in fact I just read it again prior to the release of Love’s Sweet Revenge as well as Do Not Forsake Me, you know, just in case I’d forgotten one tiny little detail in the saga of Jake and Miranda. Over the years they have become so alive and almost real to me so when I review this book, there is so much history behind it.

Having said all that, I did love this book. I’ve loved all of them. Outlaw Hearts remains my favourite and while I really did enjoy Do Not Forsake me for Jake and Miranda, I had issues with their son Lloyd so it didn’t get as high of ratings as the first one.

And finally this one is my second fave. The issues I had with Lloyd are mostly gone with this book. In the previous book his wife had died and he remarried more for a mother for his son and not so much for love. But now he has fallen deeply in love with his wife so all is good. While Lloyd and his family and Evie, Jake and Miranda’s daughter along with her family play large roles in this book, the main focus is still Jake and Miranda.
This book picks up not long after the previous book ends. After being released from his duties as a US Marshall, Jake, Miranda and their extended family head to Colorado to take up ranching. This makes Miranda extremely happy as now her husband and son are around much more and not engaged in a dangerous profession. But unfortunately they aren’t allowed peace quite yet. Jake still often acts like the outlaw he once was when his family is in danger. Ghosts from the last book come back to haunt him when someone he left alive comes back for revenge. He is joined by a few ex-employees that were forced out. This time it’s Miranda they target.

What stands out so much in these books and has right from the beginning is the absolute adoration and devotion Jake and Miranda have for each other. No matter what tragic thing comes their way and over the course of the 3 books some really rough situations have tested their love. And each and every time their love for each other and now for the rest of their growing family triumphs. There is never, for even a moment, a time when the love they have is in question.

I was excited beyond belief when I saw at the end of the book that Ms. Bittner has a least one more tale to tell. This series is really a saga. It’s spanned over 30 years in time. Jake is now in his 60’s and just as strong and handsome and virile as he was in his 30’s, boy is he still virile. For me, the Outlaw Hearts series are just as thrilling and loving and passionate and readable now as when I first read Outlaw Hearts way, way back in 1993. Wow, that’s been – wait a minute, my brain is that much older now, I need a calculator, TWENTY-THREE years ago now. I think one needs to read the first two books to fully appreciate how deep the bonds are between these two.

While a part of me enjoyed seeing Jake's and Randy's story continued for so long, ultimately I felt disappointed by this addition to the tale. I don't know if the author intends to write more in the series, but I can't say that I'll be as eager for the next volume as I was for this one.

I did enjoy seeing Jake's and Randy's story continued. It's rare to see historical romances with leads as old as they are. It's pleasant to see that romance continues for so long and stays as vibrant; in this book, it does. Jake's and Randy's emotional pull are just as strong as they have ever been. I loved most of their scenes together, just like in previous books.

There were times where the author harkens back to the same old themes and emotional pitfalls of previous books, though. Jake's continuing thought processes of not being good enough for Randy and Randy's continuing efforts to counteract that do get old. While this feature is a fundamental foundation of Jake's character and personality, constantly exploring, discussing, and mentioning it made me tire of the whole thing. While it didn't kill my regard for their relationship and romance, it was definitely a downer.

I enjoyed the authors continuing effort to keep her historical background as accurate as possible. She continues to show that she is a leading lady in historical romance when it comes to this aspect along with her emotional relationships. I got a real taste for ranch life in the 1890s and the differing societal environment that came about as the Old West got tamed. Seeing Jake's struggles with this new world order as he tries to protect his own was the root of many conflicts in the novel. They added a nice dimension to the overall romantic relationship and family drama.

To me, the biggest downfall to this book is the amount of filler that pads out the impressive page count for a historical romance. Now most of Bittner's work tends to run longer so that's not as much of a surprise. It's just the sheer amount of content that is repetitious.

Big example of this is the sheer amount of sex scenes in the book. Now it’s great to know the folks Jake's and Randy's age can enjoy a healthy sex life; however, when you have sexy times almost every four or five scenes it gets a bit much. This combined with the repetitious exploration of themes, personality traits, and dangers our family faces already done to death make this book a slog through most of the time.

While it's great to have historical romances that explore a relationship as far as this series has and still have a fantastic emotional pull, this particular volume has huge flaws. Repeated themes and filler content cushion this book out to the point of absurdity. If another book is forthcoming in the series, I don't know that I'll be as eager for it as I was with this one. It might be time to retire Jake and Randy and explore other people. Their grandchildren might be an interesting choice given when they'll be coming of age, during World War I and the Roaring 20s. Now that would make for an interesting setting for a historical romance in this family!

To my knowledge, this is the first book I've read by this author. I did enjoy it despite some rather glaring (to me anyway) problems. Most of these took place in the first part of the book. I was going to give this a solid 3 star, but the end of the book "saved" it and lets me round it up to a 4 star.

Early on (page 14 of the paperback edition that I have) -
Quoting:
"Thank you." Jeff turned and hung his hat on a rack beside the door.

A few short paragraphs down the page -

Both men laughed, and Jeff thanked Treena as she took his hat. "Nice to see you again, Treena."
"And you," Treena replied as she hung Jeff's hat on a rack beside the door.

So Jeff hung his hat up, then took it down and handed it to Treena so she could hang it up in the same place? This should have been caught by a proofreader, beta reader and/or editor, especially this early in the story.

It's bated breath, not baited breath.

These are very 'chatty' characters, given to long "speeches," often repeating the same points over and over again. This led to my skimming, and in some places completely skipping over sections. I found this repetition, in both dialog and narrative, annoying. While the repetition continued, at least the story picked up and improved toward the end.

Jake Jake Jake Jake.... It felt like nearly every other sentence had Jake's name in it. The reader knows who he is. There's no need to belabor the point.

Then there's the whole "shoot to wound" thing. One of the first things - maybe THE first thing - one learns in self defense is to shoot at center mass - shoot to kill. Limbs (arms, hands, legs) are smaller targets, usually moving, and almost impossible to hit, even for a seasoned shooter, which Jake is. Toss into the equation things like, stress, adrenaline, outside influences like people screaming, etc. and the likelihood of wounding an attacker drops even further. That hasn't changed from the 1800s to today.

Before I tell you why you should read this story, let me ask you couple of questions.

Do you like reading "thick" books? If the answer is "YES", than this book [514 pages] is just perfect for you!

Are you a fan of series that are actually "sagas" of one particular couple/family? If, once more you said "YES", then this book is just the thing!

However, if you've never read this author or this series, then please don't start with this story. You must read the previous two books [Outlaw Hearts (Outlaw Hearts, #1) and Do Not Forsake Me (Outlaw Hearts, #2) ] in this series in order to fully enjoy this story.

Ever since I've read the first book in this series, I've realized that this author goes in big when it comes to writing characters and plots. Every book I've read so far has a feel of an epic. Trust me. I'm not exaggerating.

This is the last installment in this series and it is B.I.G. Just when I thought these two wonderful characters have been through hell and back, the author gives them more heartache and sorrow, and then brings it all around. Jake and Miranda Harkner are a couple who I'll enjoy rereading about as much as I enjoy Outlander's Jamie and Claire Fraser.

This story is not just for western romance lovers. This is a story for everyone that thrives on reading complex and strong characters with plenty of action and danger. I highly recommend it to all of you!

This book is the continuing story of Jake and Randy Harkner. Jake and Randy have been through a lot and have led tumultuous lives, through his outlaw years, then as a ranger. It seems like Jake always has a target on his back for men looking to make a name for themselves by killing him. Finally, Jake and Randy feel like they've found some solace on the ranch they own in Colorado, where their children and grandchildren also live. Not so. One trip to Denver throws their lives back into chaos.

This book was a struggle to get through at times, as I felt some of the scenes dragged on a little too long. It would have been a tight story at half the length, and the ending was a little too much. It echoed the trauma that occurred in the 2nd book too closely.

Outlaw Hearts is one of my favorite romances of all time, but I felt like I should have stopped at that book while I was reading this one.

Jake Harkner is bigger than life. Miranda Harkner IS Jake's life. After the first 2 books, I had had a glimpse into Love's Sweet Revenge and to be totally honest wasn't sure if I could handle what I knew was to come for Jake and Randy. But, as always, Rosanne Bittner tells a story that grips your heart and I could not NOT read it. I laughed, I cried, I was angry and I was heartbroken. But, thru Rosanne Bittner's Jake and Miranda's love and faith came Love's Sweet Revenge. And love will have its revenge for the Harkners. If you read anything in western romance, you have to read Jake and Miranda's story. It will grip your heart and leave a lasting impact. I don't know when a book series has quite touched me the way Bittner's has with Jake and Randy and all of the Harkner family. May Love always have its sweet revenge!

The Magnificent Jake Harkner

This third book in the Outlaw Hearts series is just as good as the first two. This book shows more of the family relationships of Jake and Randy. Their loving family has to get through two events in the book that will strain and threaten the closeness and love they share amongst themselves.

I truly enjoyed this book. It's encouraging to see the strength and resilience of the love Jake and Randy share, and also how that love is ever increasing to include their children, grandchildren, and friends. Roseanne Bittner has always been one of my favorite authors, and this book just illustrates again why.

I received this book as a gift from the author. I have given an honest review that is not influenced by the fact that this book was a gift.

I didn't want the story to end!

This book has me feeling so emotional as I just finished reading it right now. What a story of such a devoted family and their love for one another. I cannot wait for the next book, and I hope by then, Jake stops flirting so much with prostitutes. Seriously, I understand they practically raised him, but I feel for Randy. I'm the jealous type. See how emotional I get and that is why I love Roseanne Bittner books. You did it again, Roseanne!

***SPOILERS!!!***

Well, that was certainly an emotional rollercoaster. From shootouts to hearings, to kidnappings and familial love, this book had it all. Jake has to be so strong in here, learning not to lose his temper when it came to his past so as to not be locked up when he finally was able to murder a man who'd assaulted his daughter Evie. And then, when Randy got taken by another man out for revenge, he had to become her emotional support in a way he'd never had to do before. This family has grown so much and gone through so much, it's amazing to see. But man are these stories heavy, and the Harkners totally deserve a break! Since I'm not even halfway through this series, though, they won't be getting said break annytime soon!!!

I did enjoy it, it’s starting to become a little too much with Jake and his past. I know it was bad, but get over it. Everybody has to walk on eggshells and worry about Jake. Forget themselves, it’s all about Jake. Another thing, it’s nice that Jake is half Mexican and loves to speak Spanish but to me it gets a little carried away by calling any other Mexicans in the book Mexican more Than by their name. As for the romance in the book, it is great but way over the top. I have a good drive but holy cow, I wish that I can perform fourDashsix times a night when I’m 60. What am I saying, I wish I could do that at any time.
