When a strange-looking creature splash lands in the lake, a kind young boy rushes to the rescue. But this is no ordinary boy, he's a knight in training! And the strange creature is a young dragon, on his very first hunt for a nibblesome knight...
I read another book by this author that I really liked so that's why I wanted to read this one. It is fine. I like it. The illustrations are cute. The story is just okay. I guess part of why I didn't really get into this book today was because of the rhymes. I'd read several other books to Alena this morning that are all rhyming books. By the time I read this one I just felt annoyed by the rhyming.
Can a dragon be friends with a knight? This picture book tells the tale of a young dragon who is in search of a knight to nibble. During his quest the young dragon falls into a pond and the young knight, who is not in his armor, rescues what he thinks is a duck. The boy cares for the dragon through the day neither one realizing the other’s identity. In the end their true identities are revealed. You’ll have to read it for yourself to find out if this duo ends in a duel or a duet. This book has a fun rhyming pattern and colorful illustrations that kids of all ages will enjoy. This would be a great read aloud as it is a story of an unlikely friendship, a mismatched pair that challenges perceptions that dragons and knights cannot be friends.
Woollard has written a cute story about a dragon and a knight, born to be enemies, who become friends, not knowing who the other is until afterwards. A young dragon is sent out to find a knight to nibble on. After getting caught in a storm and crashing, a young knight comes to his rescue, but without his armor on. The knight rescues the dragon thinking he's a duck. And of course, out of his armor, the boy doesn't look anything like a knight. When the misunderstanding is discovered, the two realize that their societies expect them to fight, but can they really fight each other after getting to know each other a bit? The illustrations are adorable and really highlight the challenge that the dragon and knight face confronted with the so-called enemy. I loved the theme as well. The theme of course revolves around the idea that once you get to know someone, it's a lot harder to be enemies, when that enemy relationship is based on incorrect ideas.
When Dram, a young dragon, is sent out to learn how to kill knights, he is injured during a storm and befriended by James, a young boy who mistakes him for a duck. James takes care of the unusual creature, binding his wounds and feeding him, and neither one has a clue of the other's real identity. When they meet on the battlefield the next day with James wearing his helm and Dram clearly a dragon, they choose not to fight and to become friends. The colorful illustration and rhyming text contain a good message for readers: Just because someone is supposed to be an enemy or someone to fight doesn't mean that it's necessary to follow tradition. This picture book originally published in the United Kingdom would be great to share with youngsters as an example of trusting one's heart and going against what others have said about someone.
I don't know why, but while I was reading this I had a sort of Monty Python-esque dialogue running in the back of my head: "That's not a dragon! That's a duck!" Crazy times. Cute story. The ending came rather abruptly, but was sweet.
This is one of the best picture books I've read in a long time! The story, the illustrations, the writing...it is a perfect storm for me! I can't wait to share this book with my favorite kiddos.
‘The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight’ follows a four year old dragon named Dram who has been sent by his family to bite a knight. However, along the way Dram meets a boy named James. The two become friends without James knowing Dram is a dragon, and Dram unknown that James is a knight.
The theme of this story is friendships and stereotypes. Even with the presence of dragons and knights, it is still obvious what the message is while reading the story. A knight and a dragon can still be friends, and that shows the young readers that it does not matter the backgrounds, anyone can be friends. This picture book begins following the story archetype of the quest as Dram is sent off to find a knight. However, it soon turns into a comedy as the reader knows the two characters are supposed to be enemies, while the characters themselves do not know. There are two protagonists here, Dram and James, however there is not an explicit villain, mentor, everyman, etc. The protagonists could be considered heroes toward the end of the story, thanks to them bringing together the dragons and the kingdom.
With the book being a picture book, not every single fantasy aspect can be crammed into it. Yet, the quick read still holds those key aspects mentioned above. Especially the theme about friendship. As a reader, I feel it is important to remind kids that you can be friends with anyone and some of my best friends are people I might have never even thought to talk to. It is important to be nice and kind, and those are values I really resonate with. Meaning, I also really resonated with the book.
This was a cute story about a four-year-old dragon and a little boy who are meant to be enemies, but learn that even people who aren't supposed to get along can become friends! The rhyming was well done (meaning it wasn't annoying to read—ha!), and the story flowed nicely. I really liked the illustrations, as well, which I'm learning is super important because if the pictures aren't engaging, my preschooler won't let us finish reading the story!
I also love a cute story with a good moral, and this one was sweet. The little lad thinks the dragon is an injured duck, tends to him for a little while, and then they discover that they are supposed to be mortal enemies. They end up teaching the whole village that knights and dragons can get along. It was adorable. And the picture at the end had both me and the preschooler cracking up! A good read for the littles.
A young dragon crash lands into a lake and is rescued by a young boy. But not just a boy, a knight in training! The young dragon is on the hunt for his first knight, a nibblesome knight, but how can this boy be a knight? He doesn’t have any armor on, and he’s kind to the dragon, not scary. The young knight helps the dragon recover from his crash and the two begin to answer an age old question; can knights and dragons be friends?
This book is a great read for story time, full of rhymes and unique new words. Great for kiddos who love dragons and adventure, it’s a book you’ll be begged to read again and again.
Sometimes a book is just good because you, as the parent, actually had a good time reading it 🤣 That’s not the only thing this story has going for it, but when I try to put into words why I liked it so much, the honest truth is… “I just did!”
I read The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight and it’s cute, funny, and kept me engaged the whole time. Isn’t that really what some bedtime stories are about? Me and my enjoyment of a silly little nibblesome knight who just wanted to help a funny looking duck?
Seriously though, this book is fun in the best way. It’s light, playful, and easy to get into, and you’ll actually enjoy reading it out loud to your littles.
I also know it’s a win when I finish a book and think, “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind my son picking this again in like three days” (not tomorrow though… let’s not get crazy).

When a little dragon is told by his parents to find a knight and bite him, he runs into trouble flying through a thunderstorm and is injured falling into a lake. A young knight thinks he's a odd looking duck and rescues him. The two become friends, not knowing they are each other's enemies.
Great illustrations complement the rhyming text (ala Seuss). It's a fun read with a great message.
I figured I would enjoy this book, because I am a huge fan of dragons, but it really exceeded my expectations.
The book is beautifully written with great descriptions. It is a rhyming book that has some truly fantastic rhymes. It's not all "you" and "too" as so many other children's books are. This one is amazing and beautiful.
I also really enjoyed the illustrations. Great details and diversity in the dragons.
This is such a heartwarming story and is just perfect. Highly recommend for dragon-lovers.
Oh my goodness, this book is TOTALLY my cup of tea. Knights, dragons, knight/dragon friendships, adorable illustrations! A baby dragon goes off in search of a knight to eat. But he has a bad crash landing, and a little boy helps him feel better. He is shocked when he learns this boy is a KNIGHT! Oh no! So they decide to be friends anyway. The best part is when the boy thinks the dragon is a duck.
A dragon who is grown must learn to fend for himself with the help of a small knight. They becomes friends and when a sports day at the castle is announced, the small dragon must battle the small knight. The knight realizes this is a friend and a dragon and they won't fight. Fantasy story about friendship and knights and dragons and colorful pictures help sell the story.
What happens when a little knight meets, and cares for an injured little dragon that he mistakes for a duck? What happens when a little dragon meets a little knight that isn't wearing his armor, and they spend the day together? This tale of innocence and new found friendship will provide those answers, and much more.
This is a fun story about a dragon who is finally made to leave his nest and fulfil his destiny, which is to bite some nibblesome knights! Sadly, Dram the dragon finds this task a little tricky, until he meets James, who offers some help and becomes his friend.
I really like this book for its great rhythm, pace and rhyme. I would use it to spot, read and write the many phonetic words!
All throughout a small smile was on my face. Dram, a young dragon, is off to taste his first knight but crash lands and whos there to help him but James, a young knight, who Dram thinks is just a lad and James thinks Dram is just a duck! I have always been a sucker for great illustrations and this book does not disappoint.
I am not sure what I like more, the story or the illustrations. The cadence and rhyming is spot on. It has the sweet sing-songy quality that I love in a picture book. A boy and a young dragon meet. They become friends, but realize too late that they are supposed to be enemies. This story was absolutely wonderful and will need to be added to my personal collection.
This book was SO MUCH FUN to read out loud. Definitely don't put this one in the read-in-your-head pile. Kids who are good at tongue twisters would have just as much fun reading this one out loud as an adult, I think.
Great illustrations complement the rhyming text (ala Seuss). It's a fun read with a great message. For my full review, visit https://kissthebookjr.blogspot.com/20...
A very cute book about a baby dragon that leaves his home to eat his first knight. However, a storm leaves him injured and he is nursed back to health by....a knight. This results in an unlikely friendship where they both learn dragons don't eat knights anymore, just nibble.
Fun, active rhymes, fast-paced, suspenseful, cute story, sympathetic, engaging kid characters, and colorful, rich illustrations. All these elements make this tale of mistaken identity, The Dragon and the Nibblesome Knight, a great read and read aloud book for kids and their parents.
It is such a fun book to read aloud, with the rhyming and all. Therefore, it would be great for a story time. Its cover is eye-catching as well, so it would be great for a display on dragons or fairy tales. I think it would help with the concept of friends.
