This volume Mahiru Shirashi (the main character) proves once again that she isn't needed for the Lunar team.
She never actually does anything to help and is constantly in the way of the battles.
Misoka is the one to find the Teardrops of the Moon every single time so what is this girl's purpose?
Nothing.
Mahiru reveals unnecessary information about the Lunar team and their location to Keiko Himura from Dawn's Venus (the enemies) even AFTER learning about her spying.
Mahiru finally was able to have some sort of trust with Mitsuru Suoh only to ruin it by protecting Keiko for egotistical and self-righteous reasons.
Mahiru isn't friends with this girl but because she thinks she is pretty and cool she puts her friends at risk to be killed.
Akira Yamabuki is no better.
He helped Keiko despite knowing the truth.
Mahiru ran away from Moonshine bar/apartment back to her aunt's house after she overheard Misoka Asagi and Nozomu Moegi's conversation about her constant lies.
This scene is written in such a way where she and Akira are somehow victims when they are the problem in the situation.
I pity Mitsuru because he clearly has issues with trusting people especially humans and Mahiru is making his situation worse.
Also the excuse of her spilling secrets being because she is human and "done out out of the goodness of her heart" are ridiculous.
Mahiru was being selfish and self-righteous and believes the ways of the Lunar clan is violent and barbaric when all they are trying to do is collect Teardrops of the Moon that was stolen from them.
They need these stones to save their race and Dawn's Venus along with the police are constantly trying to capture them or even kill them.
Mahiru is clearly not looking at it from their point of but her own self-righteous and selfish view.
I guess she expects the group to just allow themselves to get killed.
What a fool.
The writers bait that Mitsuru is either a reincarnation or descendent of the demon the princess Mahiru is a descendant of but nothing comes of it.
Other stories I've read, watched and heard about would have done something with this part of the plot but the writers of this story only uses it to bait a future romance between Mahiru and Mitsuru and nothing more.
Anyway more information for the characters are revealed.
Mitsuru and Mahiru are revealed to be 17, Akira is 16,Nozumu is 19 and Misoka is surprisingly 21!
The last volume revealed that Misoka is actually male.
Mitsuru's full backstory is yet to be revealed because it was never explained why he hates humans and others a part of the Lunar Clan.
This story is severely lacking development and it showed especially in the last two volumes I've read.

oh frick oh frick oh man oh heck things going down

I've seen some people compare Crescent Moon to Fruits Basket... and as someone who grew up on Furuba, I definitely see the similarities! An orphan girl suddenly moving in with magical beings who can shapeshift. But I feel like they're definitely telling 2 very different stories.

I stayed up too late last night because I genuinely could *not* put down this next book. And then the spoiler happened at the end and I had to at least read a chapter into volume 5 because OH

There's so much to contend with in this series. I've been thinking about it all night. The Lunar Race being unable to even try living a normal life within human society, the fact that so many terrible things will happen to them just because they exist. The way Mitsuru was raised so that he essentially hates both sides of his heritage??! Like that's insane! But that's so real and there genuinely are people who feel that way because of how they grew up. It breaks my heart watching Mitsuru especially struggle to come to terms with who he is and his failures to reach out and connect to other people.
And Mahiru!! This girl. She just wants everyone to stop fighting (and I feel for her), but can the Lunar Race feasibly stop fighting? Will they ever be safe enough that they don't have to defend themselves? But what about the consequences of their fighting? It's not as easy as just stopping and I am really interested to see how it will be resolved.
It's genuinely a really complex issue, cemented in reality.

My only difficulty with this series is a consistent lack of pacing. The problem is that this series could really use more space and time to develop some ideas naturally. Instead, we're told them or showed them really abruptly because there's just not the pages to explore them. I still really enjoy it and honestly can overlook the lack of pace because the ideas, emotions, and characters' stories are just so strong.

Everything is falling apart. Keiko has learned Mahiru is connected to the Lunar race, but both she and Mahiru are reluctant to reveal what they've learned about each other to their own groups. But this causes the growing friendships Mahiru has made to fall apart, as the lies keep multiplying . . .

This is where the wheels come off. Mahiru decides to outright lie to her new friends---who very easily pick up on the fact that she is lying, but decide it's not worth confronting her directly for now. Still, she's lost a lot of the trust she'd built so far. Mitsuru decides he's better off by himself, since he never really liked either group and now he's got the perfect excuse to ditch both Mahiru and the others. Akira, in a rare bit of personality, is also falling in love, and decides to follow his crush rather than his mission.

As frustrating as it can be to watch things play out that could easily have been prevented, it's also nice to see Mahiru making frankly really dumb choices. She's thrown her lot in with the Lunar race, and rather than continue to object to their methods and try to find a middle ground, she decides to cut them out of the process by lying to them. Except in the end her lies have bought her nothing, and she feels so bad about it she can't even face staying in the new room they'd given to her.

Overall this is a stronger volume than most of the series so far, because it's the first time this little group has really felt tested. I rate this book Recommended.

This great fantasy manga takes an interesting twist in this volume. Both the Lunar Race and the Dawn's Venus have young members in their groups. Could it be possible that enemies could be attracted to each other? Is it possible that young Mahiru, who is helping the Lunar Race, might also want to help fellow student Himura, despite her affiliation with Dawn's Venus? Could happy-go-lucky Akira have found his love? Can Mitsuru and Misoka trust Mihiru? If battle breaks out, who will be on which side? A must read manga!

Trust runs thin in this volume when Misoka and Nozomu begin to suspect that the person that is leaking out information to the enemy is Mahiru.
Misoka persecutes against her because she is human, and because, out of the goodness of her heart, she has befriended the sole female member of Dawn's Venus. But just what is it that is making Misoka so irritable and hasty? Misoka may very well be hiding a secret of his own...

In Volume 4 of Crescent Moon, Mahiru discovers that her classmate, Keiko, is a member of Dawn's Venus. Mahiru tries to befriend Keiko in hopes of becoming the bridge between the humans and the Lunar Race. Consequently, the Lunar Race suspects that Mahiru is a traitor. I really like this Manga Fantasy series and look forward to reading the next volume soon.

So far this has been the best volume! Things are finally starting to pick up and things are happening... a shame it took til 4 out of 6 volumes to do so, but better late then never I suppose.

I'm actually excited to read the next volume and even ordered the last one since the library doesn't have a copy. Hopefully this momentum keeps up and a good finale is in store with the last two volumes!

It was pretty good. Machiru is really changing for the better. But of course there are some set back in that development and it really happens in this book.
