Famous name? Check. Famous face? Double check. A life locked up tight? Lock and key.
The daughter of a famed supermodel, Nicole Bissette has unwillingly lived her entire life in the spotlight. And she's learned that to keep unwanted attention from herself, it's best if she never smiles, never laughs. Never lets anyone close.
Especially her employees. Especially that one employee who lives to make her laugh, who loves to see her smile, and who doesn't seem to realize that he works for a fashion designer. Does he not know? Can he not see? Is that really what he's wearing?
This fashionista is about to discover that love really is blind...
Megan Bryce sits in front of a computer all day making up stories for a living. Which means she is not nearly as interesting (as well as tall, svelte, and/or dressed) as her characters. She gets bored quickly and just can't be bothered with anyone in her head who doesn't make her laugh--which translates into fun books, outrageous situations, and witty characters.
She writes both contemporary and historical romance, and you can visit her website at www.meganbryce.com
3.5 estrellas.

3.5 stars. It has been a sweet, cute and rather short story. Low on angst. Even though the author deals with complicated issues, but she decides to show more than to judge and it works.
We have this Nikita person, who is the mother (for lack of a better word), then there is Nicole, the heroine, who refuses to live under her mother´s shadow and there is Nicoletta who has decided to spend her life sponging off of others and not lift a finger. And then there is Flynn, adorable and awkward, who makes all things work.
The romance is cute and sweet, there is only kisses, intimacies happens off-page and there is a lot of complicated relationships. Dysfunctional families, normal ones, friends who replace family and so on but all with a touch of humor and sarcasm that made me smile more than once.
The final conflict is shallow and the end is wrapped up rather quickly but it had that awww factor that I love and it was enjoyable. Perfect to pass the time.
This was cute, but honestly there wasn't much conflict here that I could really sink my teeth into. Nicole is the daughter of an overachieving supermodel, who tried modeling, but never achieved her mother's heights, and who has branched out into designing clothes. Flynn is her IT guy and is the ultimate nice guy, which I have to admit was refreshing, but let's face it, doesn't always make for a very interesting story.
Nicole is sad and stressed out because she can never live up to her mother's legend. Flynn makes her smile. The two are cute together. They meet each other's respective families. There's an incredibly hackneyed split at the end that is clearly just to create drama the book has sorely lacked and it really felt out of place.
Honestly, this book was fairly forgettable. I finished it about a week ago and I can't remember all that much about it. All the good meaty stuff I thought would take place with Nicole's mother and sister really never came to pass, and while I was dying to hear more about her interactions with the father and family she never knew she had, that was really a bit of a let-down in the end too.
All in all, I like writing style, but this book just did very little for me. The upside is it didn't do much negative for me, but it did nothing positive for me either. Pretty forgettable, honestly.
I picked this up because I love Megan Bryce's historicals. And I wanted to love this. It's got beauty. And the geek. And they're adorable. But something just didn't really "click" for me: the romance seemed forced and there was no *reason* for them to be together. Like there was no falling. Just pre-fall and then fallen.
Anyway, still a well-executed book. Also, I may have to check out the next book because of her half-brother and her best friend. Sigh. I'm such a sucker for a tormented love story...
This book was enjoyable for its simplicity. This is not a serious book although it had scope for seriousness what with the Diva mother and wayward sister of Nicole but it didn't veer there. It was a love story between a fashonista who doesn't seek fame and the IT guy who keeps the modelling company running by being the everyday guy. I enjoyed the leading man's family, they were a riot. I liked the ending and most of all i enjoyed for a book about fashion there was not a single description about how hot the leading man looked, nothing about piercing blue eyes nothing about abs. He was a just a normal guy with an ability to make Nicole laugh and for that alone you could add an extra star. The writing was light , there were a few grammatical errors and sometimes you didn't follow which character was speaking. But overall very fun reading with emotional moments
I read this book as I was flying to NYC for fashion week.
Ya'll this was such a fun book it made my 4 hour turbulent flight fun.. (I mean as fun as it can be when you feel like you are going to die)
This was a very cute book... I loved the plot. I loved the characters. I loved every single thing about this book. IT was such a a great book. IT was a very fast page turner that had me laughing and yes even cringing... I felt so bad for our geeky hero... but he was a catch!
Must read if you love NYC... fashion... or just great chick lit. I will read the rest of the books in this delightful series.
It started off strong. Something I was excited about. But it had to many moving pieces that didnt go together and made the ending horrible. I was very disappointed.
Short sweet and a little bit cute. I didn't realise when I started this that it was part of a wider series but it was still ok. It was the first in the set of three but I don't think I will be rushing out to read the rest. Characters were fine but nothing amazing. Easy to read and well crafted with lots of things happening and not too confusing.
It was free on Amazon and the plot sounded interesting so I decided to give it a try. Urgh.... Where was the story build-up? And the backdrop to the romance? You go from hey let's hook up to ...I am so madly in love. The only part that could be savaged for me where Flynn's parents. The rest was all nonsensical despite the trope potential. Thank God I didn't pay for it!
*3.5 A light, fun, quick read. I read it after the second in the series, as they are "standalone" stories. Background in this story was helpful to understanding some threads in the second. I would recommend reading in order.
Nicole is a fashion designer, former model and daughter to one of the most beautiful women in the world. Nicole looks just like her mother. She is about to have her first show and the pressure is becoming too much to manage.
When the show goes well. Nicole wants to take the next step. She wants to have an online store.
She speaks to Flynn, her, IT guy. He has been the one to tell people to “turn it off and then back on and it should work”. He has made sure the computers, tablets, phones, etc all work as they should. Not a lot is expected of him, and most of the time he is very bored. Who knew that seeing all the beautiful models ever day could become boring? But, Flynn has learned all about air brushing.
When Flynn explains what would be required to have what she wants, Nicole says she will look around and find someone to create it for her. Flynn is insulted and angry. He could do that for her. He is a technology guy. He could create a store. He has created one before.
So, Nicole tells him to give it try. If she does not like it, she can always find someone else to do it.
Thus begins a friendship.
This is a fast read.
Nicole is one of three very close friends. Gia and Victoria and Nicole have been friends since boarding school. They depend upon one another and they make sure that they support one another.
Now both Gia and Victoria are moving away from New York. One to Florida and one to San Francisco. And life is getting complicated for Nicole. Her mother wants to tell her who her father is. Her seventeen year old step-sister is living the life of a 35 year old hooker. And Nicole is attracted to Flynn.
Flynn is just an average guy. How did that happen?
The story has humor, warmth and charm. It is entertaining.
Family relationships are all around. Nicole meets her new family. Gia has to move to Florida because of family. Victoria is taking her father to San Francisco because he is in the early stages of dementia. Flynn’s parents are amazing people. They are still in love with one another (that is an embarrassment for Flynn). And they will make you laugh as you read this book.
I enjoyed the book. Ms Bryce is a new to me author and I know there are two more books in this series. I look forward to reading them.
I’ve never been a fashionista in my life. I would even go so far as to say my only fashion sense is in shoes, but then I look at my earrings...nevermind. Reading about people with fashion problems is normally not something I relate to, but romance books with ‘geek’ in it are very appealing.
Overly stressed, kind Nicole works in a fashion company for her mean, supermodel mother. While in the process of launching her first collection Nicole has a bit of a panic attack and this is our ‘meet cute’ scene, where she connects with lovable, bored IT geek Flynn, who works in an IT cupboard in aforementioned company. This aspect of the story reads like real life. I’ve met a few cupboard IT geeks in my work life. The two start to actually talk to each other at work, he designs her website, they make out in the IT cupboard … the rest you need to read yourself.
Some romance books describe male geeks as Clark Kent lookalikes, who maybe makes some comments about Marvel or DC. But I really feel Flynn as a character, as his geekiness is not just a facade to get the nerdy girls to read this romance. He actually comes across as an IT person and even though the whole fashion aspect of the book bored me a bit I stuck with it for Flynn and it delivered Flynn … plus family. Who are also adorable by the way.
Cute, opposites attract workplace romance. Nicole is a fashion designer with a very famous ice-queen model/designer mother. Despite a successful career, Nicole is never sure if her achievements are based on her merit or her mother's influence.
After the success of her first runway show she decides to add an online store to her label's website. She needs advice and asks Flynn, her company's IT guy to help.
Flynn has been working for Nicole for a while. His job is generally easy and he's been feeling a little unfulfilled. When Nicole asks about starting up online sales he finally feels like his skills and expertise can be utilised.
Nicole and Flynn bond over the ups and downs of their project. Notoriously aloof, Nicole feels comfortable enough with Flynn to let her guard down. Flynn is just a regular guy, but he can appreciate Nicole as both the famous beauty and the real person she keeps hidden inside.
Growing up famous, Nicole has been starved of love and affection. Her two best friends have had to relocate out of New York for work, leaving Nicole relying even more heavily on Flynn. When Flynn confesses his feelings, Nicole has to confront her fears to accept and return his love.
I'd love to read about her two best friends in upcoming books. Second in the series is The Ties the Limit, about Gia.
This is a sweet romance with fade-to-black love scenes.
Nicole is an interesting character. She was unique and I instantly liked her. Flynn was just adorable - the perfect nerd! The whole opposites attract idiom came into play here.
Plot
It was an amusing romance. It wasn't just about the romance but the characters came into play. It was interesting to see the take on what it was like to grow up rich and famous. Well to grow up in a house where your mother is rich and famous. Really put perspective on things for Nicole and Flynn.
Overall
It was a very interesting and engaging read. I particularly enjoyed Nicole coming to terms with everything. Not to mention the whole nerdy jokes from Flynn's side were priceless! The two things I didn't like were the 'conflict' in the middle about Flynn (hated it actually and made me lose all respect for him) and the sort of non-ending ending.
Rating
3.5 stars (rounded up)
Great romance that I really enjoyed until the last few chapters. Couldn't quite give it 4 stars since it felt a forced near the end but I'll round it up to 4. I think I could of overlooked Flynn's flake moment if there was an actual ending - but it felt rushed. Still love this author though!
This is not what I was expecting when I started this book. Nicole's life is in the spotlight because of her famous mother and with that attention comes everyone else's expectations for success. This ultimately makes Nicole very insecure and cautious of every decision she makes, fearing making the wrong choice. The same holds true when it comes to relationships, enter Flynn. Flynn is very comfortable with who he is but doesn't feel like he brings much to the table when it comes to his relationship with Nicole. Throughout the book each is quietly waiting for the other to break their heart. The book progresses at a slow and steady pace with surprises revealed as you go along. At the heart of it all is the strong friendship between three "sisters". As they rally around one another and provide needed encouragement and pushes in the right direction. I loved Gia's movie references to solve the world's problems and can't wait to see if their is a third book for Victoria and Scott.
Started 11/23/22. Took a break and picked it back up 12/13/22. Finished 12/14/22.
A slow but fast read if that makes sense. It’s slow to start, but then it’s rushed. Then it slows again to build an actual story and then it’s rushed. The only part I enjoyed was the 5 seconds (and I mean literal 5 seconds of reading this part) of dinner with [SPOILER] her secret brother.
Also, it’s so hard to tell who’s talking when since it’s in 3rd person and doesn’t have any names at all. But it’s also not 3rd person it’s like 4th person.
SMEYESING?!!! Seriously?!
I hated reading this sorry not sorry. I wish I could have just stopped it, but I like to finish what I started.
And I was not joking when I said it’s slow and then goes REALLY REALLY FAST! Like picture this last 3 chapters? Yeah everything is jammed into that last chapter to make standards for a happy ending.
1 star….
Thank god I got this for free.

I found Boring is the New Black funny, adorable and witty. It's a fairly quick read and even though the end was somewhat predictable, I just couldn't put it down.
Despite the sarcastic tone in which it is written (or maybe because of it), I think it portrays very well the world of fashion and modeling, especially it's less glamorous side - where some people feel they are entitled to let their crazy and wild side loose no matter who gets hurt, while others would just welcome the chance of doing what their love without being on the spotlight every second of the day.
I will definitely look into the next book in the series: The Tie's The Limit (The Fashionista and The Geek Book 2).
I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. The synopsis and cover gave me the impression that this would be a light rom-com. As much as I enjoy humor in my books, this was more than that. It was a nicely balanced story of a couple possibly falling in love. There weren't any big issues like the heroine's family is about to lose their business or whatever. It is just two people deciding whether they want to take a chance on each other.
The author doesn't pretend that the couple isn't having sex, but the bedroom door is closed. I normally don't mind whether the door is open or closed, but in this case, it seemed to help me as a reader focus on the characters' emotional connection.
This book was okay. It relates the story of Nicole and Flynn. Nicole is a fashion model’s daughter and designer and Flynn is her IT guy. I just felt like I was outside the story the whole time. It never really sucked me in or came alive for me. The premise was cute, but there just wasn’t enough interaction between Nicole and Flynn. I felt like it was all a fluke and they really didn’t k is each other or spend time together, other than on their office floors. I also felt like there were just too many other story lines:( It was cute and a quick read, but not a must read for me.
This book was so so funny! I laughed and laughed all the way through it. Flynn made so many cultural references (revealing my inner geek). Yet this book has some real depth to it, some nuggets of wisdom that even my husband was reading parts of it. Nicole's strength, vulnerability, and love of her friends had me crying at parts, too. This was a fabulous clean romance.
Stand alone HEA, with hints of further books to come. Not all my questions were answered, and I'm okay with that.
Contains no sex scenes, a few swear words, and no violence.
I've been trying to find romances I can recommend to my granddaughters. This one isn't one of them. It does feature a strong female protagonist. But though it's not explicit, it's very close to explicit, in describing steamy sexual situations [typically extramarital]. It centers around the fashion industry, with the romantic interest the techie who is helping the protagonist set up an on-line store for her high end designs and clothing.
A fun light romance, I liked the main characters and as a parent I sympathise with the issue of where boundaries should be set and what should be choice. I would spare my children every poor decision but recognise they have to live their lives and I can not choose for them. Those who have compliant children do not get it. On finishing this book I read the next and look forward to reading the next in the series.
Nicole Bissett is the daughter and spitting image of her supermodel mother, and now she's a fashion designer. Flynn is her down to earth, fix anything, IT guy, but when she finally notices him, they really hit it off (sex on his tiny closet office floor?) Nicole dislikes her mother and is super concerned about her younger, out-of-control half sister, so it's hard to see how she'll settle for Flynn, but it works out.
This was a freebie on Amazon. Originally I gave 4 stars, but on reflection I didn't think this book was that good. I liked the H/h. I liked the secondary characters. I particularly liked Flynn's parents. There was some funny dialogue.
It seemed they slept together way too fast, then the relationship took off. The conflict was resolved very quickly, then it ended abruptly. Kind of disappointing actually.
A cute quick read. Nicole is trying to get out of her mother's shadow while also trying to help her underage out of control sister. Flynn is the nerf who works for her who also looks past her fame and really sees her for who she is. Secrets are revealed and other characters come in. I loved Flynn's parents! I am hoping Victoria gets a story as I've already downloaded Gia's.
This story was great fun to read and I loved the characters. Feels like the start of what can be an awesome series with the three friends Nicole, Gia and Victoria flowing story to story. This book is focused on Nicole and Flynn and it doesn’t disappoint. Can’t wait for what comes next, no maybe about it!
