I thought that this was a wonderful conclusion to a series that I have thoroughly enjoyed. It was wonderful to finally see Macey and Max together, although I felt like Macey was justified in being upset with her father for not being a part of her life for the past 13 years. I felt terrible for Macey at times because it seemed like she was carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders and the man she loved was just out of reach. I have a tough time putting this book down once I started reading it.
Nicholas Iscariot is in Chicago trying to get his hands on a couple of artifacts that would give him more power. Macey, Chas, and Max will do everything in their power to make sure that does not happen. This book had many emotional ups and downs for the characters and things looked desperate at times. There was plenty of action to keep things very interesting and there were quite a few moments when I wasn’t sure how things would work out for this group of characters that I have grown to love.
I would definitely recommend this series to others. I would recommend reading the series in order since the events from previous books come into play in this installment. I hope to read more of Colleen Gleason’s work very soon.
This book is quite simply, a love letter to fans of the Gardella Chronicles. It is packed with flashbacks of favorite heroes of the past, huge changes for those characters in the present, and even a few teases about what the future may hold. It’ll wring your emotions dry. I was cheering along and I was tearing up all within the same chapter!
Roaring Dawn is the final installment of the Macey and Max Denton portion of the Gardella Vampire Hunters. This book will not disappoint ardent fans. From the beginning, we’ve seen Macey change and grow into such a dynamic and strong character. We’ve been introduced to her “long-lost” father and fellow vampire hunter, Max Denton. For the first time since Macey’s childhood, their lives intertwine. And it is emotional and tense. Macey deals with the reappearance of her father, her relationships with fellow hunter Chas, and newspaper reporter Grady, while trying to stay alive in 1920’s Chicago riddled with vampires and gangsters. This book is jam packed with beginnings and endings, and I loved it all!
This series is best read in order. While the Macey books could be read as a secondary and stand-alone series, you should definitely check out the Victoria Gardella series, because some of the characters do overlap. And for more in this world, you should read the Regency Dracule series, because there are characters from this series that make appearances in the Macey books as well. Don’t worry, you get plenty of backstory without being subjected to an info dump! It’s just awesome how these series are all connected!

I was impatiently awaiting the release of this book....I have read all of the Gardella books and ADORE them!!! Macey's final book is action packed, fast paced, fun, exciting, heart wrenching.....I could not put it down until I finished. Incredible closure for this group of the famed Gardella family. Only one problem....I WANT MORE!!!!
“Cosa vuol dire a rùn?”
. Maljka - per RFS
Ehh.. I wanted to love this book. I devoured the original Victoria Gardella series quite quickly, but maybe now because I'm older or have higher expectations this decedents story didn't really 'do it' for me overall.
Macey is too wishy-washy; I think 'oh, she found her way' and then she's stuck in a spiral of indecision and justification. Then she's all miffed that YOU KNOW WHO could be with someone else and moved on from her while she's bumping uglies with the other YOU KNOW WHO with no seeming thought that she's betraying anyone at all herself.. so.. I'm not a fan of that either. :/
Love this, love the Macey books, love the Max Denton books, love the Victoria books, love the bonus short stories! While the stories are great to read in order, they also stand on their own. Can’t wait to read more!
Se con il secondo libro ero rimasta con il fiato sospeso, la suspance e il bisogno di leggere per scoprire come proseguiva la storia non ha fatto che aumentare pagina dopo pagina con questo terzo e ultimo libro. I fatti accadono senza tregua, e l'unica soluzione è stata continuare a leggere.
Max Denton has finally returned to Chicago to reunite with his daughter, Macey, after 13 years. The same man who hunted down and fought 100s of thousands of vampires without blinking an eye, is now a nervous wreck at the thought of seeing the daughter he abandoned and neglected. Not once in all those years has he ever contacted her or read updates about her. He finally sent correspondence a year ago through Al Capone, the notorious gangster/Venator, whom never gave his daughter his letters. She grew up thrown from one home to another, never staying in one place, yet Max never wanted to know about it. Father of the year he wasn't; coward is more like it.
When Max walks into The Silver Chalice, Sebastian's bar now run by Temple after his death, he sees Macey in an uncompromising position by Chas. The first words out of Max's mouth is "get off my daughter." Macey in turn is in frozen in shock that he is indeed alive and walks out of the room slamming the door.
What exactly did Max expect? Did he really think Macey, who thought he was dead, was going to run into his arms, crying happy tears, screaming "Daddy!" Savina warned him that this might have happened, but he refused to listen to her. After Max has a drink with Chas at the bar, he goes after Macey only to find out that she left. She went out for a walk but ends up at Al Capone's place to pick up some of her things that she left behind and to confront Al about a few things. Al almost seems afraid of Macey. When she asks him why he lied to her in the past about knowing her father was alive when she asked, he brushes her off. Then he tells her that Max already paid him a visit and took away his vis bullae, so he's not a Venator anymore, and proceeds to throw her out. After leaving Capone's, she ends up at Grady's for some reason, but runs when she sees a woman in a bathrobe come down the stairs. It's Macey's fault, she had Wayren erase his memory for his own safety.
Returning to the Chalice Macey, Chas, Max, and Temple need to come up with a plan to end Iscariot once and for all. Iscariot wants 2 things: the pyramid in Sebastian's safe that Max Pesaro and Sebastian found in the Pool in Romania 18 years ago and Macey Denton.
Iscariot plans on torturing their loved ones until either the someone gives up both the pyramid and Macey. The only way to destroy the pyramid is for Chas to go back in time a century and retrieve an object to destroy the power of the pyramid. But when Macey realizes that Grady remembers everything about their love, he hates her, shattering her heart all over again.
Now she's destined to be alone forever like her father was. At least she has her father back.
Macey is one of the best Heroins that Colleen has created! I am very sad this is the end of a saga but I can't wait to follow the other Gardella Clan members. Macey is very different from Victoria and at the same time you can see a lot of Victoria in Macey. This latest and sadly last installment for her stories is just as thrilling as the first two and will keep you glued to the pages! It's cheeky, stylish, and incredibly sexy. I have been in love with Colleen's world ever since I happened upon her book The Rest Falls Away, Victoria's book one, in a hospital gifts shop. Her world has a way of opening a portal and bringing you in, you feel like you could be a Venator in the fight against evil. Her stories are unique and they are unlike any other vampire series I've ever read. Once you pick up one of her series you will never be able to stop reading her work-it's addictive.
Macey is a vampire hunter deriving from an old family bound by the responsibility to rid the world of a most deadly threat. This story takes place in 1920's Chicago and is full of Speakeasies, Flappers, and of course treacherous Gangsters. Macey must team up with a Venators from Victoria's time names Chas Woodward to try to defeat the nefarious Nicolas Isricoat an ancient and powerful vampire hell bent on destroying the Venators and Chicago along with it. They get caught up in a prophecy that tells of two Venators who will be the ones to defeat him. But is it then? Can they put their differences aside and work together to defeat the most dangerous threat Chicago has ever seen? The tension between them is thick and troublesome. They have both lost and had their fair share of grief, will all of their differences get in the way of doing their job? When their backs are to the wall they can only trust each other, but is that the only thing between them?
Final book in this trilogy about Macy. I’m going to miss her.
I liked the way the story line ended, but there could have been a little less talking about things and action- for me at least. I also wish the artifacts had been involved more. After all the talk about them, I would have liked to see them in action. The big fight with Iscariot was cool, but not enough detail.
I love how this comes together for Macy in spite of all her mistakes. The relationship mix-up was well done, but I wish another relationship had turn out better.
I think Grady’s become my favorite character. Between his reading a book a day and Houdini, he’s my kind of guy. I also like Wayren though I understand why the others are so frustrated with her. She’s a tricky little thing.
Footnote: 1) The photo was a nice touch.
Fave scenes: Sebastian’s secret, Grady and Lindwood’s Houdini test, Grady’s escape idea, the underground tunnel entrance and the pickpocketed wedding ring.
I have been waiting excitedly for this book and I was NOT disappointed! It is so hard to write this review without giving major spoilers which I refuse to do in my reviews but I can say that there is a very special treat for the fans at the beginning which I was not expecting and it both thrilled and broke my heart at the same time.
This book moves fast, in a good way. Literally I could not put it down! I love the character development in this one and I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it ended (form a purely selfish point of view because Colleen has set herself up to write a story that I KNOW I am going to adore).
An easy 5 stars from me. I love this world so much and I revisit it often. If you haven't started the series yet I would suggest getting the first one and then enjoy the ride!!! V""V
I absolutely loved this book. It was one of those where you read faster and faster because you needed to know what was going to happen, but did not really want to read that fast because you do not want the book to end.
At the end of Book 2 we left the group of Temple, Chas and Macey reeling. They were picking up the pieces and still trying to figure out Nicholas Iscarius and his schemes. If you had read the novellas, you also know that Al Capone's assertion that Macey's father was still alive will have a part in this story. An aside: This really is not a stand-alone book; read in order and do read the novellas. Also, the Daculae stories are great, and will give you Chas' backstory.
Enter the summas Gardella and now the fun begins. The action is non-stop, the story full of twists and turns, and the emotional rollercoaster is superb. Enjoy!
Sebastian was one of the only characters I really liked in this series and he was hardly in it. Therefore, I was worried when he up and disappeared all of a sudden with no buildup and no satisfaction (on the reader's part). Except for the whole Guilia thing. Despite my worries, however, Max Denton was introduced and I was pacified. Max was very similar to Max Pesaro. Much like Chas was a similar character. But since Chas wasn't really in the books a whole heck of a lot either. Denton's introduction was warranted. He did a good job of filling the void Sebastian left.
That being said, I didn't enjoy this series as much as the original. This conclusion was good though. entertaining with a happy ending.
I do greatly look forward to the next series. It appears Chas will have a more central role and since I liked him more than most of the characters in this series I am hopeful.
This was the final book of the Macey Gardella series and what I consider the best one of them all. I had so looked forward to its release and the wait was well worth it! From the first page, I was drawn back into Macey’s life and even characters from prior books. The descriptions of the roaring 20’s was well done, as the descriptions made it feel as the reader was right there. I felt the pace of this book continue to move fast; therefore causing me to not want to stop reading the story until I got to the end. Colleen did an awesome job combining action, fun, and suspense; and manages to complete the story even though I hated to see it end! Once again, Colleen outdid herself!
Digital copy of book gifted by Author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a great wrap-up to Macey's story as she faces the ultimate evil vampire, Nicholas Iscariot, in 1920s Chicago, while avoiding Al Capone and dealing with the reappearance of her long-lost father. Chas, Temple, and the gang are there to help her take down Nicholas and destroy an artifact that could give him even more power.
Macey's also trying to cope with having said goodbye to her lover Grady, the intrepid reporter, in an attempt to keep him safe. It's hell being a vampire hunter while having to protect the world and her own heart!
Special appearances by a few of our old friends and hints for what's to come make this a satisfying end to this chapter of the Gardella Vampire Hunters saga.
Roaring Dawn is probably the best novel among the Gardella Saga. Read it and you'll laugh, cry, be astonished and nod in satisfaction at every single page. Carachters and plot are consistent, complete and yet surprising. There's action, seduction and personal relationships of every kind going on in the most complicated yet harmonic way. The ending feels like the story is really complete but still, you'll want more. I must admit I was sorry even for the bad ones. Colleen Gleason's carchters are so realistic you feel like you could speak with them... This is in every respect, an amazing job. Have a nice time reading!
The final book in the Macey Gardella series and the best to date! Taking you back to a time of gangsters, prohibition, flappers and vampires! Macey Gardella and her crew of vampire hunters go after the most vicious vampire, Nicholas Iscariot. With the help of her thought to be dead father and famous venator, Max Denton, Macey overcomes those who are out to get her. While also reeling from the loss of her beloved friends and her love Grady, Macey finally and truly receives the happily ever after she's dreamed about since becoming a venator, as happy as a vampire hunter can get.
A most refreshing new series just as outstanding as the original series: The Gardella Vampire Hunters.
I loved this book! The story progressed so nicely. I loved how all the characters from the Macey books and the Max books finally came together. The twists in the book were so good! I did not see the end coming at all. Colleen does such a great job with making you feel for her characters. You want to strangle both Max and Macey for various reasons but you understand why they do the things they do. So you have to forgive them. Especially because you experience their pain first hand. It's not them experiencing it. It's you. And there's some very heartbreaking moments in the book. I loved how the story wrapped and can't wait to read the next set.
Colleen nails it again. The last of the Macey Denton Series, will leave you wanting more. This book is hot, sexy, thrilling and action packed. Surprises around every corner makes this book so hard to put down. Macey finds who she really is and continues to follow through with the destiny that has been placed in front of her from those before her. She is a Gardella. A Venator and she takes what she knows and fights through her trials even when she stumbles and falls. You will find yourself holding your breath, you may cry and you will definitely read with your mouth open in absolute awe!! Can't wait to see what Colleen Gleason has up her sleeve in the future!!
I was so excited to read this book and was absolutely not disappointed. I laughed, cried and was surprised through out the entire book. I loved the flashbacks and back stories without feeling overwhelmed with to much info. I can honestly say that Macey has become one of my favorite female characters along with Victoria Gardella. I have been recommending and will continue to recommend this series because it really is a Great story. :-)
