Elise Toussaint Hearne thought her devastating secret was safe after all, her dark hair and complexion could mean she had French ancestry. But that did little to save her when it was discovered that her deceased mother was a runaway quadroon. Disowned and shamed by the Hearne family, Elise and her baby find themselves on their way to the wild frontier of Texas as slave. When Elise inadvertently meets Benjamin Sinclair, a fiery evangelist determined to convert the lawless Texans, their lives become intertwined in the midst of tragedy shattering their fragile existence and forcing them to discover the faith that sustains. This volume also includes the full length novel Heaven's Road, the story of Micah Sinclair, the reckless but courageous stepson of Elise.

I loved these two stories. The theme of redemption overwhelmed me with thankfulness for the capacity to forgive and accept others. This is one of the few books that has brought me to tears. I even recommended it in my Christmas letter the year I read it. Love, love, love!
Heaven's road-the second book, with Texas Angel, is the follow up story. It tells about the 14 yr old son, of Rev. Sinclair, who left home when his mother died in child birth. He hatted his father. And blamed him for his mothers death. And the fact that his father was unforgiving and stern in serving the church. Micah was involved in the war between Mexico, and Texas, and had so much hate in him. He became a Texas Ranger. This story is about redemption and love. Very good story.
I enjoyed both these stories so much. I was drawn into the characters from the first chapter and found myself hardly able to put the book down. A must read for every lover of Christian historical fiction, and an awesome example of the grace of God that can take the ugliest past and turn a life from hopeless despair to new life with a future and a hope. Excellent!
This is a very good story but there were so many typos it took some of the joy from the reading. Once the typos are corrected the book will rate five stars.
Both books were great! I was worried that being Christian romances that they would be too overbearing with scripture but they were very tactfully done.
3.5 stars. My friend loaned me this book and I thought it had a good message about humility and redemption. It got a little preachy in parts and the whole situation of the heroine at the beginning was not pleasant to imagine, but overall I enjoyed the story!
it was a good book but it did take time for me to get into it. I'm not sure what the exact problem was but it didn't keep my interest; which is why it took so long to read it.
