2.75 Marion you are killing this Stars.

description

I’m going to preface this by saying that this is my first book by S.M. Reine so I am not at all familiar with her world building or some of the characters in this book that have appeared in others. This book needed to carry itself and while I really enjoyed some of the worldbuilding and the set up of the story I absolutely didn’t like the Main character at all and so that colored my experience with this story a lot.

You know what saved this book was Luke, who apparently was a character from a different series S.M. Reine did. I liked him immediately and wanted to know much more about his backstory and why someone with his ‘talents’ is playing doctor in some backwater town in the middle of nowhere.
“You’re important too, aren’t you?” Marion asked. “That’s why you’re such an enigma.”
“You don’t have to be important to make important enemies. We aren’t touching again for my safety.” After a pause, he said, more quietly, “And for yours.”

The world is kinda awesome. It has all kinds of creatures in it from Fae, Angels, Demons and Weres to witches, warlocks, vampires and many other things that go bump in the night.
“It was the end of the world. Gods got to fighting. The old ones were killed by the new ones and everything got remade. Most people believe that the new gods died during Genesis because they haven’t been seen publicly.”

But then there is Marion. * sigh* I wanted to like her. I mean it seems like the entire world is out to get her at one point in time. We see her for a brief second in the beginning when she looks like she knows what she is doing but then she is in a hospital with amnesia and doesn’t know anything about herself. So you are thinking lost girl who everyone is trying to kill she should be easy to like right??? You would be wrong. She has moments where she seems semi redeemable but then you hear her inner thoughts and they are vain, selfish, semi-cruel and at times ridiculous. If this is how bad she is after complete memory loss then I’m going to go out on a limb and say she was retched before.

I know that she has amnesia but throughout most of this story I thought the girl was TSTL. She did so many dumb things. Trusted so many people who just randomly showed up in her life and then she just took them at their word when people were trying to kill her.
“What kind of person must I be to have so many people out to kill me? Nobody invests so much into killing the nice people.”

I’m hoping that this is just a phase and that part of the overall arc of this series is Marion’s journey from vapid uppity beotch so something or someone more who actually cares for the people of this world. There is a ton of potential there and I’m hoping that S.M.R can capitalize on it.

I don’t know a lot about this author and so I’m really hoping that there isn’t going to be any kind of love triangle happening. I was a bit worried for a minute that that was the direction this book was heading and really it couldn’t afford another strike against it. But gladly it teetered on the edge of what could turn into one but I’m really hoping that it doesn’t go down that dreaded road.

I’m continuing on in the series more for Luke and the world than for anything else. I see a lot of possibility for this series but we aren’t quite there yet.

While that twist was pretty damned obvious the whole time, I like the story that Reine is setting up with so many players from her larger world making appearances.

Buddy read with the weekly Wednesday UF group over at BB&B.

There was a bounty on the life of a girl named Marion. The dollar figure was high enough that the real question wasn’t whether she would die—it was how quickly, and who would land the reward.

Marion a half-witch, half-angel mage is the daughter of Metaraon, the Voice of God. But when she wakes up in the hospital, she can’t remember anything. Someone has taken out a hit on her, sending assassins to kill her before a certain date. Her only option is to turn to her new human doctor Lucas Flynn, who is as good with a scalpel as he is with a gun and who seems to be the only person trying to protect her. Can she stay alive long enough to recover her memories and her powers when she doesn’t know who wants to kill her or whom to trust?

I love awesome heroines, whether they are wallflowers, strong, sassy or quirky. Sadly this book didn’t have such a heroine. Marion came across as vain, arrogant and spoiled. She had some sweet moments in the beginning where I thought she could be more than just awful, but by the end I just didn’t care anymore. Also her naivety in trusting a certain guy because he said he was her boyfriend, he was good looking, had a fine body, kissed very well and said all the right things made me think she's an idiot. And I don't like TSTL heroines. I HATED HER and she ruined the entire book for me.

There were a few things I liked though:

Dr. Luke Flynn – I loved him. How honorable he was, how he said no to Marion’s stupid demands, and put her in place when she acted like a jerk and how he wanted to save lives. He’s quite a mystery, seeing that he’s more than what he seems, and I really want to know all his secrets.

The world – A world where apparently new gods fought old gods and Genesis happened, changing the world forever with vampires, light and dark fae, shifters and many more awesome preternatural breeds. I found this world very interesting and I liked the way the author wrote it.

Unfortunately Marion erased any enjoyment I could find in this book, and if this book wasn’t part of my buddy read with friends I would have DNF’d it. I disliked her so much that I don’t even want her to be redeemed, I just want her to die. And if she ends up with Luke I’m going to scream!

A new series from S M Reine but fear not if you've read her Descent or Seasons of the Moon series as it's still set in the same world she has created but time has moved on. This author has a different take on werewolves but with this post Genesis book we also get vampires, witches, faeries and even angels ! Our heroine Marion wakes up in hospital with her memories gone . All she knows is she has to find Seth Wilder but who he is or why he is important is totally beyond her. The doctor treating her is a bit of an anomaly and right from the start the reader knows there's a lot more to Dr Lucas Flynn then he's letting on. Marion has no idea why assassins are targeting her but Lucas seems to have an inkling . Getting out of the hospital alive is just the tip of the iceberg though as it seems Marion has so much power at her fingertips if only she could remember how to use it!
I'm not sure that I liked Marion as she's full of herself and more than a little arrogant which didn't endear her to me. Yet as the story progresses we see depths to her and she truly does have a good heart. The synopsis gives away Marion's species so I'm not giving too much away when I state that her attitude kind of makes sense given what she is but she does seem very young and far too trusting at times. Me? I'd be running for the hills!
Lucas may seem familiar to some readers and he certainly carries a very strong connection with Marion. I liked that he is a man capable of holding his own but at times wanted to shake him as he lets Marion wrap him around her little finger! The girl is obviously in danger and yet he follows her into situations that are clearly not safe. O boy what is it with men and a pretty girl batting her eyes at them?
It's a complicated world the author has created but all the better for it I thought. I really enjoyed seeing these characters come to life and the ending just sets the scene for much more mayhem to ensue. We get some answers here but not all so I'm really onboard to read the next book when it's available .

I think giving the honest opinions while writing a review is very important. But sometimes, I don’t know how smart is that?

You see, the author thinks (know) their book is the best, smartest, most interesting book in the world.
Authors friends, family, and fans think that too, obviously.
Then, a bunch of reviewers thinks the same thing and rate it with high numbers of stars.

And then...

And then you read it and don’t like it!
Then you ask yourself: “Is it me?”
You think maybe you missing something, maybe you didn’t understand something, or maybe, just maybe is it possible that we all have different taste and you simply didn’t like what everyone else did?

I didn’t like this book from the beginning. No! Let me tell you more accurate, I didn’t like the Heroine...
She simply ruins this book for me and even if it isn't badly written; there are some pretty good action, some new, good staff. Some of the descriptions sound very nice, the author has vivid imaginations;...

All that for me was left in the shadow of the awful heroine, and I did finish reading this book but only because I didn’t want (and didn't think I have right) to rate a book I left unfinished.

I'm very sorry for that because I think if I could erase the main heroine from it I would like the book. (If that makes any sense?)

In the beginning, I said that I don’t know how smart is to be honest, and that is because some of my friends here have a bad experience with it.

Leaving negative review can bring you some very negative comments.

This book probably deserves more than three stars (minimum), but because of heroin, it's only two and a half.

A new, fast paced, action intense, urban fantasy, series by S. M. Reine, you’ve got to check this out.

Marion has been memory wiped and finds herself woken up in a hospital with Dr. Lucas Flynn as her only hope to find the elusive Seth…a chance to regain her memories. She finds herself in a post apocalyptic world with Vampires, Sidhe and Shifters.

It seems everyone around her either wants her dead or to use her for their political gain. Marion just knows that there is something about Lucas that she trusts and leans on him to help her traverse the political mine field she finds herself surrounded by.

If I had one complaint about Cast in Angelfire, I felt it ended too soon… I was engulfed by the storytelling and found the book ended way before I wanted it to.

I received this copy of Cast In Angelfire from Red Iris Books in exchange for a honest review.

Buddy read with the Wednesday UF Freaks of BB&B.

I had high expectations of this book. I mean the two prequel series to this one are among my all times favourites. I adore Elise and expected her sister to be just as awesome. Not. Marion is a spoiled brat and that's saying a lot since the girl had no memories of her previous life. What kind of entitled idiot can be so obnoxious when she can barely remember her own name? About halfway through the book I realized that Marion's amnesia is probably the best thing to happen to her because it gives her a chance to become an actually likeable person. Something she apparently wasn't in her previous life. Basically everyone who knows her hates her. To be so universally hated at the age of nineteen says a lot of bad things about one's personality.

Thankfully there was Dr. Luke Flynn to save the book. I liked him a lot the few times I met him before this and I'm a hell of a lot curious to learn what happened to him after Genesis. Talking about Genesis, I have to mention the second saving grace of this book - the amazing world. I loved the world before Genesis with it's angels and demons and I was really partial to the city of Dis in one of the infernal dimensions. I even kind of want to live there. It only it wasn't so hot there :/ Anyway, now we have a whole new world so similar yet so different from the one before. Apparently Elise had changed a lot of things when she became (this isn't truly a spoiler but if you haven't read the Descent and Ascension series it would be). I love the new gaean species and the new separation of the planes.

I hope that Marin will improve in the next few books but even if she doesn't I think that the rest of the cast will be able to pull me through her idiocy. And I hope for a cameo of Elise and James. I do miss them terribly.

I love S.M. Reine's books. She is a very prolific author, and I've only read a couple of her series. Therefore, I wanted to make it a main goal of mine in 2019 to catch up on all of her books that she has written to date. It has been a few years since I have read anything about Rylie Gresham, and I wanted to try something that was close to that because I missed those characters. I decided to pick up the Mage Craft series, and I'm so glad I did. I loved the first book in the series, Cast in Angelfire, so much.

Being back with some familiar characters in Cast in Angelfire felt like coming home. It was great to reunite with these characters, and see what they had been up to since Seasons of the Moon: Cain Chronicles had ended. I did find some of the character's confusing though, especially in the beginning. I think we met them in the Seasons of the Moon: Cain Chronicles series, and I had just forgot about them because it's been so long since I've read the series. That's my fault though, and doesn't reflect on the book's quality in any way. All of S.M. Reine's books are slightly connected in the same universe, so I should have done a quick skim recap of the Cain Chronicles series before I moved onto this one. I also loved meeting some new characters as well

I thought that the plot of Cast in Angelfire was action packed. There was never a dull moment when I was bored. Even the parts where Marion and Luke were just in his truck, driving to their detestation were enjoyable. I thought it was fun watching Marion re-learn all of the information that was new to her, and seeing if she would discover Luke's big secret, which the reader already knew about from the previous series. Throughout the book, especially towards the end, I couldn't put the book down. I kept reading way past my usual bedtime because I needed to know what was going to happen next, and how Marion was going to get out of the situations that she got into.

Cast in Angelfire is definitely one of my favorite books that I've read this year. It felt so great to be back into the Descentverse, and to get to see some of my favorite characters again, along with some new ones. The cliffhanger at the end of this book drove me crazy. S.M. Reine has a great way of writing cliffhangers that leave you dying to know more. I will definitely be picking up book two, an d the other books in this series, as soon as I finish typing this review. I foresee myself binge reading the whole series this week.

Cast in Angel fire by S M Reine.
Nineteen-year-old Marion can’t remember anything before waking up in the hospital. All she knows that a lot of people want to kill her. And her would-be assassins are not human…

Vampires are real. So are faeries and angels.

They all want Marion dead.

Surrounded by enemies, Marion turns to Lucas Flynn: a mysterious doctor who seems to know more than he’s letting on. He’s as good with a gun as he is with a scalpel. He fights like a demon but claims that he’s human. And he’s hellbent on protecting Marion.

Marion must find her identity and her power…before the forgotten sins of her past catch up with her.

This was a good read with likeable characters.  Found it slow in places but still a good read.  4*.

This is one of those books where I'm sure you *could* read it without reading any of the other connecting series, but... you'd miss so many of the little nuances of the characters we've come to know over the course of the countless books. Frankly, I'm in awe of the way S.M. Reine weaves so many little connections into the various series. Characters overlap and put in appearances and OMG! I KNOW THAT NAME! WHERE DO I KNOW THIS PERSON FROM?!?! It's amazing. Utterly amazing.

But this is ultimately Marion's book. Except, Marion is a blank slate and her flashes of knowledge and memory are few and far between and they're mostly triggered by the enigmatic Lucas Flynn. Which means that every interaction she has with the various preternatural factions puts her in danger. Because Marion is big stuff and she hasn't always been the most diplomatic of people. She has enemies in high places and her lack of memory could be her undoing.

No joke, I always get super tense reading books by S.M. Reine. And this book was no exception. I had a couple of times where I had to quietly put my book down and take a quick breather so my head didn't explode. Marion's utter vulnerability without her magic was sorta creepy-making. Especially knowing that when she's on her game she's one of the most powerful people on the planet. Or dimensions. Or something.

She's big stuff, man, and her story isn't over yet.

***I would like to thank Netgalley and Red Iris Books for providing me with “Cast in Angelfire” for free, in exchange for a honest review***

We do not learn much of Marion’s past until later in the story. We are let in a sea of unknowing and just drifting along with Marion. She learns quickly and we get more information than what she does. Because the book is in third person point of view and mostly follows Marion on her journey. SM Reine created a new world of different paranormals and how they actually were created. You have to read to find this information out.

I received copy of this book from NetGalley. Marion is probably the most powerful being in the world. Or, at least she was. Waking up in the woods with no memory, Marion can't remember anything but her name and another, Seth Wilder. She must find him if she is to get her memory back. With so many people trying to kill her, that's easier said than done. With no memory, she doesn't even know who to trust. I really enjoyed this book, it was fast-paced and I look forward to the next one.

After joining Sara's ARC team for the Dana McIntyre Must Die series, I thought I would try one of her other series and really enjoyed this book. I think this will be another series that I love.

Marion appears in the middle of a forest with no knowledge of who or what she is. She is brought to the local hospital where luckily the doctor is able to determine that she is not human. What she is though is more than just what her species determines. Dr Lucas Flynn agrees to help her, but when she is attacked by sidhe, he promises to keep her safe and together they try to piece together her life and her memories.

Marion does not know who to trust, but something tells her that Luke is one she can depend on, at least for now. She is found by a sidhe prince, claiming to be her boyfriend. She feels familiar with him, but still does not fully trust him or his parents either. With Luke's and another angel's help, what she is is finally revealed. Her status was rather surprising, but even more surprising were the events at the Preternatural Summit.

I really liked Marion. It appeared that she was not much of a likeable person when she was her former self, but was much more innocent without her memories. She had the opportunity to reinvent herself and change the way she acted with others. Luke was a very secretive character and I can't wait to see if he reappears in the next book. Still unsure about Konig though! I think he might become a bit more devious later on especially if his jealous rears its ugly head again!

Like with many of Sara's stories set in this world, other characters appear, which make me want to read all of her other books. Shame I don't have all the time in the world to read!

Gahhh!!! Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

Yeah, and that reaction pretty much still stands...

If you are a frequent visitor to Creative Deeds Reads, you already know that I'm a fan of S.M. Reine. That's probably an understatement and not earth shattering news by a long shot. You all pretty much know, if this author writes it, this reader will be reading it and in the process, trying to convince other readers to do the same. That's what makes the next thing I'm going to tell you really hard. Don't panic, this isn't a lead in to tell you that this is the first book in this world I hated. It's actually the opposite. I absolutely loved the introduction to The Mage Craft Series. What I need to tell you, even though the author herself has said that you can pick up any series in this world and not be lost regardless of where you start, just don't. Well, I can't exactly tell you that, because I actually wouldn't (and haven't) listen(ed) to that advice. What I'm trying to say, in my usual rambling, nonsensical way, is that this series would be much more enjoyable, and probably make a lot more sense, if you had, at the very least, read the Ascension series prior to picking up Cast in Angelfire. (It would be even more enjoyable if you started from the very beginning with Seasons of the Moon and Descent, but I'm not going to push it.)

So, now that I've gotten that out of the way, I suppose I can get on with the review... yeah, about that. There's a lot about Cast in Angelfire that I can't really talk about. That is, not without giving anything away. What I can tell you is that just as much is revealed as there is hidden. Since Marion lost her memory, she has no idea who she was or is or who she should trust or know and Lucas is absolutely no help. He's obviously hiding something and more clues are given to readers than to Marion. Yet, even though I knew from the beginning who he was and what he was hiding from Marion, there was still a lot that still needs to be revealed. I may have to go back and read Sins of Eden (the final book in the Ascension series) to see if I can figure out if there's anything I missed, but I have a feeling that readers have been kept in the dark for a reason. *sigh*

Since this is just the beginning, there is obviously more to come. There are also more characters to return, which I'm looking forward to. A lot's happened since Genesis and there are several people who readers are curious about. I'd name them, but what fun would that be? Just know that this is the beginning of another amazing series. As usual, my recommendation stands. If you haven't delved into this world that S.M. Reine's created, no more excuses. My only suggestion is that you don't start here...but it's only a suggestion. ;)

I received Cast in Angelfire in exchange for a fair and honest review.

*Was given a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review*

If only I finished this before hubby and I went on our vacation then I probably would have given this a four. But since I didn't my reading time disappeared and when I was able to finally relax enough to pick it up again something came along, distracting me. So as time went by I started to lose my interest and just wanted to finish the damn book haha. I hate when that feeling comes especially with a book I was enjoying.

Yes, this can be read as a standalone but I highly recommend you read some of Mrs. Reine's previous works first that way you can connect better to some of the characters. I haven't read all of her previous books because she writes so dang fast (I wish I knew her secret) that I just can't keep up but I have read enough to spot characters from her other works and then things click into place for me, creating a better enjoyment in me.

Like all her other works, Cast in Angelfire is packed with magical action scenes that keep you on your toes! I was devouring this, didn't want to put it down! And once pieces of the puzzle fell into place and I realized who the main guy was, my interest became even more piqued!

Though sometimes I couldn't stand Marion and her high and mighty attitude, I still wanted to see her safe. I'm hoping in the next book I'll see a change in her, especially after everything that's gone down but my hopes aren't high haha. And I also didn't like how naive and willing she was to listen to what everyone was telling her. In the beginning she was suspicious of everyone but the moment this cute guy says he's her boyfriend, her suspicion flies out the window when this moment she should have been suspicious. But I'm glad she even realized how naive she's been.

Overall I really enjoyed reading the latest story Mrs. Reine has written for us, I'm really amazed by how she twists these tales so that they all connect in some way and be apart of this urban fantasy world she's created! I'm truly amazed and I can't wait to continue this series! I'm excited to see where things lead to, this was a great starter for this latest series of hers. If you've enjoyed any other books by Mrs. Reine then you'll definitely enjoy this one!

Cast in Angelfire is a paranormal/fantasy style novel that takes place in a future post-apocalyptic world, one in which creatures of folklore have come into being along with those that already existed. Angels, mortals, werewolves, sidhe, witches, etc all clash for power. The main character Marion (a half-angel) is attacked and then vanishes only to wake up some weeks later in a hospital with no memory of anything prior. To add insult to injury, assassins show up to kill her but a mysterious doctor by the name of Luke is hell-bent on protecting her with deadly force if necessary. Not to mention, every time she touches the good doctor, she regains bits and pieces of herself, but he is adamant that they should not touch. Can she ever hope to regain her memories before she becomes merely a memory herself? And whom - if anyone - can she trust?

I would first like to state that I received this through NetGalley for an honest review. This was a bit of a slow starter for me. Once I got about a third of the way in, however, it all fell into place and I found myself rather enjoying this story. Character depth was good, suspense was top notch, and when it ended I was sitting there stunned and thinking "WHAT? It's over? No!" for a moment before I remembered it is going to be a series. I have a feeling the next book will be even better. Give it a chance, I don't think you will be disappointed.

There was a million dollar bounty on a 19 year old girl named Marion being advertised on the Darknet. The ad also said she had ti die by November first which gave a month’s time to kill her. Assassins were gear up to find and kill her. Marian woke up in the hospital and the only thing she knew was her name and she was awake. Marian did not understand the English being spoken to her and replied in French. Marian did also know she needed to find Seth Walker . Now she was talking To Dr. Lucas Flynn When Marion and Dr. Flynn’s fingers touched she could suddenly understand and speak English. After Lucas ran tests he determined it showed Marion was half angel half witch she was a gray mage which was rare. Then some assassins show up at the hospital and Lucas saves Marion's life.
I don’t usually like stories with fairies in it all that much But i really Liked this one. What is there not to like : assassins, unseelies, seelies, spies, werewolves, angels, witches, memory loss, jealousy, threats, lust, orgies, travel to different worlds within the earth, magic, and so much more. I really liked Marion’s character maybe not the one that is talked of before her memory loss but I did with the Marion of this story and all the twists and turns she went through was totally awesome. I Liked Lucas also. I highly recommend.
I received an ARC of this story for an honest review.

Cast in Angelfire (The Mage Craft Series #1) by S.M. Reine – Marion Garin does not remember who or what she is. What she does know is that she needs to find Seth Wilder. Wilder on the other hand has been missing for years. Instead she is found by Dr. Lucas Flynn. With a large bounty for killing Marion, people who are not what they seem and having to run for her life the story gets exciting very fast. Much of the action in the story is used for world building and back story. While Marion and Lucas start as the main characters others who add richness to the plot join them. There are more twists and turns. There is a world changed from what we know. The paranormal has become common place. All add to an exciting story that ends with much still left in the dark. Book two Cast in Hellfire will continue the story.

Well, I just don't know how to put this review into words. There are no words to do it justice. It was great! What a complex world. There are so many elements to it that it blows my mind. It would take me ten years to write something this good. I have to admit, in the beginning, Marion drove me so crazy. I wasn't a big fan of her because she seemed like she was arrogant but as you get to know more about her, you understand why. It's all I could do not to peek at the ending. Lol. I had no clue why her memory was gone. I love books with the Fae in them. The autumn court painted a vivid picture in my mind. It is amazing how Sara put it into words that your mind's eye can see. Ooh I think you will really love the doctor, Luke.

This is the first book I've read by S.M. Reine, and I believe it is set in the same world as some of her previous books. However, that wasn't an issue - I didn't feel lost. I liked the way the world was revealed too - a piece at a time instead of a huge information dump. Basically, a global event resulted in magical creatures now residing on earth along humans.

Our main character is one of those, and clearly powerful, but she has lost her memory. One of the things I liked about her is that she isn't TOO nice- she's still somewhat vain and arrogant - which is a lot more realistic. I liked what we saw of the other beings, and I'm interested to explore more of the world.

I promise this will not all be negatives just read on to get a good idea of my thoughts.

First impressions, I knew this was based at teens and YA, so I was prepared for it to be a lot tamer than the books I read a lot of lately….. Romance is a bit different haha.
Anyway when I first started to read this book I did find it quite hard to follow for the first 50% of the story. The different forms of paranormal characters were really hard to follow, I understood the werewolves, witches, and angels but there were a few other species I really did not understand. And I love my fantasy books so I normally come across the same sort of creatures, but I was thrown in this book.

The beginning of the book jumps into the night before Marion loses her memories. There is a rather large price on her head, and every species is after her. The first half of the book then explores Marion travelling with Dr. Lucas Flynn, to where she thinks home could be, in hopes it will lead her to this Seth Wilder. Seth wilder becomes clear later on.

I did find this book hard to understand and was struggling to read it until I was half way through. That was when things really started to happen, and I felt there was a plot thickening. The second half of the book was filled with tension, mystery, action and chemistry.
I enjoyed reading about the relationship that Lucas and Marion shared, it is definitely unique, and this becomes clear in the beginning.

Obviously as it is a young adult and teens book there was no sex. Well…… there was the odd sexual moment, there was one scene focused on Marion watching an Orgy, that was umm interesting, and actually made me giggle because of the way it was described. But the author definitely made me feel like I was reading form a 19 year old perspective which is perfect, and exactly the sort of audience the author was going for. I did enjoy this, and that is why I gave it 4 stars.

I am actually very interested in reading the second book

Cast in Angelfire is the first in The Mage Craft series by S M Reine. It's is a fast paced well written story filled with all manner of supernatural creatures who cohabit the world with humans.

I enjoyed this story very much and though there are many books within this world, that I have not read, I still was able to follow the story well as enough information was given to us- partly because Marion herself could not remember anything. So, despite this being an already established world you can read this as a stand alone series and everything still makes sense.

What I loved was that though there are many series out there with the same premise, a world filled with supernatural beings living along side 'mundanes', this felt like a fresh new world.

Marion herself is an interesting character, having lost her memory the version of Marion we see is, by the sounds of it, a lot nicer than he former self. I like the Marion we see, she is complex and yes, a little selfish and self-righteous but she has something to her. She isn't a wallflower with no personality.

Luke Flynn is another mysterious character and though his secrets are hinted at nothing is revealed until the last pages. His relationship with Marion is complex and enjoyable to read and he seemingly has her best interest at heart which the same can not be said for Konig.

Overall this book is filled with interesting characters, an enjoyable and fast passed storyline and kept me turning the pages. With many more books in the series I'm looking forward to seeing the journey Marion takes.

Cast in Angelfire by SM Reine is the first book in the Mage Craft. The book follows Marion as she wakes up in hospital only knowing her name and that she needs to find a man called Seth Wilder. The world that Marion is not a simple world, vampires, fairies, shape shifter , Demon and angels exists. The problem for Marion is that they want her dead and she doesn't know why. The only person she can trust is her doctor Lucas Flynn, who is as handy with a gun as he is with a scalpel. Lucas tells Marion she is half Angel and half Mage but Marion can't remember how to cast magic, but she needs to find out fast before someone succeeds in killing her.

My favourite character is Lucas he is conflicted between helping Marion and keeping to his safe life. There is a lot more to Lucas which I can't wait to find out, as well as why Marion and Lucas are unknowingly connected.

I am conflicted regarding Marion, I don't like her personality before she lost her memories. Her abilities and standing in the supernatural community has giving her an arrogant and self entitled behaviour. I hope her kinder/ more human personalities stay with her as the series continues. Also I don't know if part of the reason I am not sure about Marion is who her father is. As a Supernatural Fan that Angel was not well like (putting that nicely.)

If people read Kalayna Prices series Grave Witch mixed with a the TV show supernatural (certain elements) than you should give this series a go.

The next book in the series is called Cast in Hellfire.

Urban fantasy is my favorite genre, unfortunately, this book is just not for me.

A great, engaging protagonist is supposed to be one of the crucial elements of an enjoyable narrative. In other words, if you love the main character, chances are you're going to want to read their story. Even an anti-hero can be a hero of their own story as long as they're engaging. And therein lies the biggest problem with "Cast in Angelfire" - its main protagonist, Marion, is downright awful. Arrogant, obnoxious, demanding - and demeaning. I don't care what happens to Marion, because I cannot stand the sight of her.

Also, unless you're a fan of SM Reine's novels, it is quite challenging to get into this world. Dozens of books preceded this one, and unless you're familiar with the twists and turns of their narratives, you find yourself as if on an alien planet. Each fantasy author creates their own world, a reality that follows a different set of rules. In one werewolves might be just dirty horn-dogs, in another majestic and honorable creatures. Stepping into this world was confusing not only because of nomenclature and philosophies that were completely unknown to me, but also because there was so much of it all.

Perhaps, if I cared at all about the protagonist, I would have cared to familiarize myself with this world, its inhabitants and the rules the magic follows. But since Marion invoked eye-roll at best and shudder of distaste at worst, I simply exited stage left.

I've had this series for a while now, but was hesitant to read it because I didn't much care for Marion.
Seth was another one of those iffy characters for me ... one chapter I like him another I want to smack him, lol.
I didn't much like Rage and Violet in Summer Court and don't really like them now.... I guess they're falling nicely into the role of a tricksy sighe since genesis made them that. I don't really like how Dun and Lia turned out, but what can one say? Characters are meant to change and how they do isn't always what the reader likes.
Stinks that my favorite ruling couple of the courts got knocked off. Maybe she'll pull a whammy and they'll come back at the end of this series? You never know with Reine books.
I love the different types of vampires and like Charity's character so far. It didn't dawn on me when I read the Alpha wars, twice, that the Hardwicks were the jerkfaces... I should've put that together when I read Winter Court the first time, sheesh.JC was such... I dislike her character even more now. Stuck up ho bag....

This was an interesting take on an Angel novel! I have read quite a few books about Angels and Supernaturals, but this was fresh and different. A new spin! Marion has amnesia and they're not quite sure what has caused it. However, everyone around her seems to want her dead EXCEPT Luke, whom she just happened to find (or rather was taken to) in an effort to find someone else without quite knowing why. In this novel, the Angels aren't the decent loving good guys you'd expect them to be. In fact, nothing is what it seems. Keep both eyes open and pay attention to everything!! I love how the author writes in the "muscle memory" information, while at the same time writes how things feel blank and unfamiliar to the character. It gives us, as readers, something tangible to identify with as well as a deep emotional connection. I would recommend this book and I cannot wait to get my hands on book 2!!

Another Universe, another time, and the faeries and angels keep on coming. A story where you actually grow to like the leader of the demon world and empathise with a revenant - a particularly nasty blood-thirsty type of vampire - they have feelings - they love - they feel hurt - and make jokes.

A Universe where Gods change and can be slain if they behave badly - and there is a Librarian Goat (yes really she has a goat head on the body of a woman) recording it all, and making copies because that's what Librarians do.

Oh yes, SM Reine's imagination has been working overtime.

Got to be a 5 because you just keep reading to find out what happens to Marion and Seth, and Charity, and Benjamin, and.. and... and...

I read the first 3 books one after the other.

Mildly interesting, just enough for me to finish it. No huge surprises. A few things didn't make sense: why did the glamour stay early in the book when the end of the book makes it clear it shouldn't? And why would they work so hard to get her on stage before she has anything to say? Makes me think the whole point of the book was the immature romance undertones. I don't mind a sub theme of that if it's done well and supports the rest of the book, but this whole book just felt thin. Besides, they conveniently merged Canada and U.S. because it "made sense" but there's still a U.N. so there are still nations.

Yes

I am a big fan of SM Reine and while I was skeptical about her first series about the God Slayer becuz it was clearly blasephomous, I couldn't put it down and ended up reading the entire series. Ms.Reine has an originality like no other. This series promises to be just as interesting and I'm just as conflicted. I honestly don't like Marion much and I like Konig even less. I feel like there is good on Marion but I also thinks she is arrogant, stuck up and spoiled. It will be interesting to see how this 19 year old brat is suppose to function as the voice of God and make life changing decisions.
