Barbie stars in a double role as Princess Anneliese and the poor seamstress Erika in Barbie as The Princess and the Pauper . The girls come from different worlds, but they have one thing in common—they look exactly the same. When the two friends switch places, their adventure begins in this full-color storybook based on the exciting new video!
As reviewed by almost 7 year old Mathea: "It's a good book but a little hard to follow. I'm just giving it three stars." [anything else?] "No ... what's a pauper?"
I stand by my 5-star review: This book was amazing.
I read this in the pediatrician's office today. I found myself laughing during some tragic parts, which (the laughing) is really obvious when you're reading aloud to children. The plot is so straightforward, and yet, so impossible! ("One day, the queen discovered that her gold mine was empty!")
Lest you think this is a straight princessization of the classic tale, I must tell you it borrows only the title and a few important plot points; the rest is All Barbie. My favorite part is the last page, where, after two proposals are made, the pauper girl "fulfills her dream of traveling the world and singing" before returning to marry the king "the next spring", and while everyone lives happily ever after, the cats belonging to the princesses "have many kittens together".

The level of details that went into the Barbie-doll version of these books are unmatched! The sets, the photography, the custom dolls made only for this project 🥰
Absolutely showstopping. Was freaking obsessed with the film when I was little and am still obsessed with it because let’s face it it’s a cinematic masterpiece and I will fight the film bros on that. Anyways this really condensed the plot super well and my dad told me that my twin and I made him read it to us every night when we were little. Everything about princess and the pauper is perfect and you can’t prove me wrong. Today I also ranked all the barbie films and I just wanna thank Mattel for making me an annoying gay trans barbie stan peace out homos I mean homies ✌️
A lovely book with pretty illustrations. The font was a good size and the style of writing is very good for early readers to sight-read-along. The characters look a little different to those in the excellent film version, but it was nevertheless a pleasure to read this with my little one. I'm sure we'll read it many, many more times in the future. I recommend having the colouring book as a follow-up activity to this book.
