Contains "Tourist Season", in which reporters, cops, politicians and a hungry crocodile, move around the Everglades. In "Double Whammy", investigator R.J. Decker is hired to investigate cheating in Florida while "Skin Tight", takes readers into the world of plastic surgery.
Carl Hiaasen was born and raised in Florida. After graduating from the University of Florida, he joined the Miami Herald as a general assignment reporter and went on to work for the newspaper’s weekly magazine and prize-winning investigations team. As a journalist and author, Carl has spent most of his life advocating for the protection of the Florida Everglades. He and his family live in southern Florida.
I don't know here to begin singing Mr. Hiaasen's praises, I really don't! These books are just fantastic; they sum up beautifully the sad, gut-wrenching destruction of Florida and the evreglades. Then add some characters with traits that don't bear thinking about, a load of lunacy and a dark, twisted sense of humour and you're about there. What is it that so grips me about his books? It has to be the inevitably apt and sticky end of all the bad guys. It has to be the way CH describes the Keys, 'glades and other wild parts of Florida. It has to be his disgusting baddies and galant (although distinctly dubious) heroes.
As I said, I really don't know where to start but all hail Carl Hiaasen, the King of Florida!
