Planet Nerak #3

The Bad Boys Guide to the Galaxy

Rate this book
Take me to your leader. Come to think of it, just take me. Planet Nerak was perfect-no disease, no darkness, no hunger-until an expedition to Earth brought back an unwanted guest. Enter one talented Nerakian named Lara, sent on a special fact-finding mission in the vast region called Texas. Fortunately, a warrior (he calls himself a "cop") named Sam Jones has offered to help. Unfortunately, Sam's skill at sex is quite distracting-as are plenty other earthly delights, like the dangerously addictive substance called chocolate. Temptations such as these could seriously compromise Lara's-ahem-research . . . Crazy, that's what Sam is. What sane man would voluntarily isolate himself in the Texas woods with an alien, not to mention a female one with a superiority complex, legs that won't quit, and a penchant for walking around buck naked? Between bragging about her home planet and levitating, Lara wastes no time getting on Sam's last nerve . . . and even less time getting into his bed. Talk about going where no man has gone before. Of course, when you're from Texas, nothing-not even an entire planet-is going to stop you from getting what you want. I honestly liked the idea for the plot, it is creative; out of the box for a romance story. It was the writing style itself i found to be insipid. The characters are one dimensional, poorly fleshed out, and ridiculously wishy washy. I feel like this book was a waste of time to read.

The third book of this series took a slightly different tone, which is understandable given that Sam is Nick's partner from the previous book and knows all about Nerak. Lara, Kia's Healer sister has been sent to Earth to find a cure as one of the Elders have fallen ill from being in contact with the humans who stowed away accidentally when Mala's ship was returned. Lara has been warned against Earthly temptations, namely Men, Sex and Chocolates.

As a Healer, she is untouchable and highly regarded on Nerak, her status only below those of the ruling Elders and Royalties, so she was unaccustomed to the irreverence shown by Sam. This story is more about how she is gradually tempted by earthly delights. There are still some funny scenes and a few surprises but I believe the best bits came later in the book..

Still an enjoyable read overall.

The Bad Boys Guide to the Galaxy is Karen Kelley’s third book in the Planet Nerak series. Lara is sent to Earth to find the cure to a potentially deadly disease that has stricken an Elder. Suddenly, Sam Jones finds that his fishing vacation includes babysitting Lara while she searches for a cure so that she can return. Lara’s search includes a few new experiences…chocolate, pizza, slot machines, alcohol, and sex with a man. Will she return to Nerak or stay on Earth like her sister and cousin?

Another funny story from Karen Kelley! I love the unique perspectives that her characters bring. Neither Earth nor Nerak will ever be the same again!!

I thought this book was cute and sexy. I really wish there were some kind of regulations on having there be some sort of way to tell if this was book 1, 2, 3 & so on. I checked this book out at my local library & had no idea that there were 2 other books before it. I was a little lost, but quickly cought on to the plot line of the story. I enjoyed it & I probaabaly would have enjoyed it more if I had a chance to read the 1st 2 prior, so that's why I only gave it the 3 stars. Someone really needs to do something about that whole idea of marking books that are in a series to make it easier for us readers to actually enjoy them more!

#3 Planet Nerak series. This story is finally different from the first 2, cousin/sister Lara comes to Earth to find a cure for one of the Elders...some humans got ahold of Mala's space craft and brought some disease to Nerak. Lara is a healer so she is here to gather some plants to find a cure.
This book actually has a good story...but...I didn't really connect with Lara or Sam (the man she falls for). I don't know why, maybe I've been on planet Nerak too long.
Since the story is better I am going on to read the next and I think last one, just to see how things turn out.

Two stars, because if I'm truly honest with myself, I at least found it amusing. True, the amusement often came from how over the top the cliches were, but when you pick up a book titled "The Bad Boys Guide to the Galaxy" the cliches really shouldn't be that surprising. With this book, I got exactly what I expected to get. And I was amused.
