In this thrilling Grim Hill climax, Cat has lost everything she holds dear. Sookie has gone over to dark magic and is a diabolical threat. A sinister carnival has crept into town and has everyone in its thrall. Only Cat's fairy friend Lea thinks there might be a sliver of hope that all the harm can be undone. But even she quakes at the danger. Still, Cat is determined to do whatever it takes, except this time even the gang isn't prepared for the most harrowing adventure of all. Has Cat gone too far?
March 2014 was when the book was finally available in print. Wow this is probably the longest i've waited for a book. I'm glad that all the publishing stuff has been sorted out. I can't believe i'm still into this series though. *remembers the elementary school days*
(Not really a review, more like an emotional rant)
I have hereby completed the final installation of the Grim Hill series. I hope to stand corrected actually, because if Linda decides to throw out a new, seventh book, I will scarf it down like a child again.
I began the first book six years ago, when I was still in elementary, learning to find my way around the wonderful world of books. The Secret of Grim Hill, the first in the series, is one of the books that really encouraged me into reading, and even six years later, I find myself immersed in the idea behind the story, the plain and simple writing. The adventure and the mystical twist on fairy nature; the romance that doesn't exist on a level that my young adult mind would hope for, yet still enough to satisfy the fangirling child within.
This book kept me up well into the night (or morning, really), and it even had me stuffing my face with chocolaty goodies. No book has been able to extract such behavior from me in a long while. Not a contemporary, and not a YA.
So really, however old we may be, there will always be a child within us. And some of the best stories may just as well be the ones that the child inside loves.
I'll leave with this quote by C.S Lewis:
“I wrote this story for you, but when I began it I had not realized that girls grow quicker than books. As a result you are already too old for fairy tales, and by the time it is printed and bound you will be older still. But some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again."
I have grown faster than the books have come out, but one cannot simply let go of a childhood friend so easily.
Oh, it's been YEARS since I read the last book, and I had no idea that that last book wasn't actually the last book until a few days ago, my sister brought this book to me and excitedly whispered that the last book wasn't the last book! What exciting news!
I was terrified that I'd spend half the time reading this book trying to recall events that happened in the past, but I didn't! So glad! It's great when a book has its own beginning and end, ya know? Makes things so easier. It also helped that there were brief summaries given along the way. Yay!
I still think that the first book was my favourite, but this one wasn't bad! I had a hard time relating to Cat though...sure, she HAS been given these heavy responsibilities, but she didn't break that as much as I would have thought a girl..her age would? Maybe it's just me....but it feels like she's too....good?! I don't know where I'm going with this anymore....
All the magic and fairies were always fun to read about. I really wished I got to read more about them. Because sharp teeth and claws and blending into shadows all the time isn't working for me....I'm interested! I wanna know more!
It's also great to read about Cat and all her friends instead of....just reading about Cat working on her own, and shutting everyone out...that's always sad to read....go, go team!
So. Is this truly the last book?! I'd like to know soon! I'd rather not be surprised with a book seven six years down the road...ya know what I mean?!
Catlin Peters just wants everything to go back to the way it use to be. When her sister was a kid, when she had tons of friends and before her parents divorced. She misses the way things use to be, but when something goes wrong when trying to change the clock how will Cat and her friends deal with their new or should I say old situation.
OMG this book was everything I had hoped it would be. Well I mean it was nothing like how I imagined it since I couldn't really figure out what would happen (which was a first).
ANYWAYS, the book had such a well written plot and I love how in every book it's like getting to know the characters all over again. Even though these books are for ages 9-12 (bookstores lie they so aren't) I still love them and I am praying there is a 7th, seriously not ready to let this series go yet.
Let me know in the comments what you thought of this book. Anything you would change/add or a character you would have liked to see more of. I was really hoping Clive and Cat would have some big romantic scene (ya I'm a hopeless romantic) and I was kind of hoping to see Zach in this book just because I remember from the fourth book she found out they both liked her I wanted to see how it would all play out. I also kind of wanted to see Sookie make a fairy friend (nice of course) or something. Okay so let me know!
BYE!!!!!
*EDIT* I was way to hyper while writing this....note to self don't write reviews till you've calmed down.
