I read this book out loud to my mom and had to stop after practically every sentence to insert my own sarcastic comment. The fairy tales were all oversimplified to the point where they didn't make much sense if you thought about them at all. Also, they were not like Grimm's or Andersen's versions or Disney's and I barely even recognized some of the stories. I would not even read these versions to kids because they are so simplified they barely communicate the lessons they are supposed to. The illustrations were alright, and they were the best part of the book in my opinion. Definitely not one of my favorite storybook collections, I would not recommend anyone read this, no matter your age.

I have had this book of fairy tales since I was very young, and it was always one of my very favorites for bedtime stories. There are beautiful pictures on every other page, and the text is good and easy to understand. This book would be wonderful for any little girl (not scary or anything, though the Velveteen Rabbit made me sad). At fifteen, I still fondly keep this book in my room and sometimes read the stories over again. My favorite was always the Twelve Dancing Princesses (mostly, I think, becuase it involved twelve pretty ball gowns =).
Great book and very magical for me!

Me encantó!! Tanto la edición como los cuentos son hermosísimos. Me reencontré con los cuentos de mi infancia, cuentos que no leía y no recordaba desde mucho tiempo. Fascinada 🥰

I chose to read the Princess and the Pea from this book, and while a majority of the story is enjoyable, I don't like the aspect of the pea. Different versions of the story are told where the queen is vindictive, and places the pea under the 20 mattresses in hopes the princess won't feel it and therefore cannot marry her son. In this version however, the queen does it to test the tenderness of the princess' skin. I think it's nice but if they are trying to find a "real princess" based on the kindness of her heart and not how she looks I feel placing the pea for that reason is slightly contradicts itself. I think this story is a classic, and if reading I would recommend as a read aloud for 1st-3rd graders.

This book and I go back a long ways. I remember flipping through the pages, not reading the stories but looking at the pictures. I loved the art work. I lost the book some years ago and for the longest time I tried looking for it online but I couldn't think of the title or the author. All I could remember was it was blue and had a big castle on the cover. Somehow I finally ran across a copy on Thrift Books and I ordered it.

I was surprised to realize that this was my first time really reading the stories. Let me say, the stories are cheesy but I know that's because it's meant for kids. The pictures are still my favorite part. Was fun revisiting a piece of my childhood.

This was a collection of fairytales my grandmother gave me as a child. It was a lot of fun reading these together with my own kids. Some of the stories are not written very well, so I would not recommend this collection aside from nostalgic reasons.

This version of Cinderella is very close to the one that we all know of by Walt Disney. The illustrations vary from the Walt Disney book, to this one. this one has illustrations on one side of the reading and text on the other, whereas the Disney version has illustrations on all pages, making it a little easier to be read by small children. The Treasury of Fairy Tales has more common words known by children in the later years of elementary school rather than kindergarten or 1st grade. I personally recommend the Treasury of Fairy Tales version to be read. It goes into more details and doesn't miss any parts that we all are commonly familiar with. I do like the Disney version if one were to read to kids, as there are more illustrations, and less words. It helps with the images that children are supposed to have, that also go hand-in-hand with the popular Disney movie, Cinderella.

In this book, Cinderella's dress is white, rather than blue in the movie and the book by Disney, and her fairy godmother has blonde short hair, rather than being an older, plump, gray-haired woman as we all get the image of in the movies. The major difference that really stood out to me was that she had a pet kitten that was always wherever Cinderella went, instead of the mice, Gus and Jack.

Both versions can be perceived as the "true" Cinderella, but it's honestly based on matter of opinion.

Treasury of Fairy Tales is a book that contains eighteen different fairy tales. I have read Beauty and the Beast. This story of Beauty and the Beast was retold slightly different from other books I have read.
In this Beauty and the Beast story, Beauty’s father was a merchant who lost everything because of the fire that occurred in his house. So, the father was told that one of the ships was recovered, and he went to see what he could bring back to ease off the life of his three daughters. As he was coming back he got lost in the forest because of the storm and when he reached the castle then he thought he could stay over night. He was trapped there and the Beauty helped free him by deciding that she would stay with the Beast. Beauty was shocked by how kind and nice the Beast was during the little time she got to spend with him as they ate dinner each night. The Beast was turned into the prince as soon as Beauty told him that she loved him.
Furthermore, this story has been retold in a different way and using different stories of the Beauty and the Beast could be used as comparing activity with an intermediate students.

This is a fantastic book that is sure to captivate any child for years and years. The plethora of stories contained within this book is truly impressive, and is certain to leave any reader satisfied. Whether one is searching for an authentic Fairy Tale, or is yearning for a new tale, this book will not disappoint. This book was an absolute favorite of mine as a child, and my mom spent many hours reading story after story to me during story time. After re-reading through this book many of the stories that I had forgotten came flooding back, and I was pleased to find that I had at least some memory of almost all the stories within this book. I highly recommend this book as it is an excellent piece of literature!

I bought this book for bedtime stories for my six year old who loves fairy tales.

I have noticed that the fairy tales are definitely not the original stories. There are no stepsisters chopping off their heels or stepmothers dancing in red hot shoes. However, the stories are not Disneyfied either. They have definitely been edited to be more kid friendly and to have happy endings. Some of the tamer ones (like Thumblina) are closer to the original story.

Overall, it's not a bad collection. The stories are a little long so I wouldn't recommend them for toddlers but it's a good length for preschoolers and kindergarteners.

Ever since I was a child I have had such a profound love for reading.
I can credit some of that love to to this book.
My grandmother and I spent countless hours tucked into my bed reading stories from this book.
Not only is the content amazing with stories like pinocchio, the velveteen rabbit, the princess and the pea, and my favorite as a child, the twelve dancing princesses but the illustrations are absolutely beautiful.

This book is an absolute must-have for anyone with children.

If I remember correctly, I think this was the first book of fairy tales I ever owned, and I loved it quite a lot. I've lost my copy now, but started thinking about it today for some reason, and after some prime googling, came across this cover, which I instantly recognized. I guess I wouldn't be able to give a true review, as I haven't actually read it in years, but I remember it being quite a favorite for me.

I read this book in fifth grade, and I was enthralled with it, reading the stories over and over again.

I re-read it at camp a few years ago and honestly it wasn't as exciting as it was when I was a kid. Maybe it was because I've outgrown this type of fairy tale collection and moved on to the originals.

This book was thoroughly enjoyable. It is great if you want a quick read on a stormy afternoon. It is also perfect for reading one story a night before you go to sleep. The classic tales are very charming and entertaining. They are also very authentic.

Lovely, but not as drawn out as the Disney versions I knew from childhood movies and books. There were some I didn't know like "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" and "The Steadfast Tin Soldier."

Not the best artwork but good version of fairy tales that are easy to read to young children.
