The author of over 80 books in a little over a decade of writing, Dan Gutman has written on topics from computers to baseball. Beginning his freelance career as a nonfiction author dealing mostly with sports for adults and young readers, Gutman has concentrated on juvenile fiction since 1995. His most popular titles include the time-travel sports book Honus and Me and its sequels, and a clutch of baseball books, including The Green Monster from Left Field. From hopeful and very youthful presidential candidates to stunt men, nothing is off limits in Gutman's fertile imagination. As he noted on his author Web site, since writing his first novel, They Came from Centerfield, in 1994, he has been hooked on fiction. "It was fun to write, kids loved it, and I discovered how incredibly rewarding it is to take a blank page and turn it into a WORLD."

Gutman was born in New York City in 1955, but moved to Newark, New Jersey the following year and spent his youth there.

Mr. Granite is the boys third grade teacher. He appears to be from another planet. He tries to go back ETINARG. The boy in his class meets him at the beach and at staples.

Ms. Lais and L.’s Book Club #3

This one is my favorite so far because the school principal challenge the faculty and the students to Go Green by making more sustainable choices.
Throughout the book the author teaches several basic things that can be done on our daily lives to help the planet and goes all the way with some very creative ideas (that are not so doable, but are amazing).

All that in a very elementary school kid’s language, with some silliness and pranks which does hook the kids’ attention, right?

I also noticed that there was a decrease on the gender stereotypes.

I can’t believe that so many of you are okay with letting your children read things like this. You all wrote off all of the horrible language and the negative attitude towards school portrayed in this book. Our kids have enough negativity in their lives without having to read about it. Thumbs down. This should be taken out of every school library.

In this book there is this character named AJ and he hated school. It was the start of his school year. His Friends are Neal, Michael, Emily, Ryan, and finally who AJ hates is Andrea. In this story Mr.Granite is AJs teacher. His school had a contest to go green and to save the most energy. If they get first place in all of the schools in his district then they will have a party. Going through most of the story Andrea thought Mr. Granite is a alien. At first I thought he was not an alien because of his looks but in the end of the story he was actually a real alien who lived in Etanarg. AJs school got second to go green and to save the most energy which the kids were sad about. They anyways had a go away party because of Mr.Granite going back to his home planet. Fortunately when he went on his saucier it did not work so he had to still be a teacher at the elementary school. The most exciting part in this story is the part where they found out that Mr. Granite is an alien. I say this because when I first found out reading this story I was amassed because When Andrea brought this up at first in the beginning of the story I thought in my head there was no way he is an alien just because of what he looks like. Their was some funny things happening in the story for example AJ was asking a question to Mr. Granite and he said "will you peel off your face?" this is funny because why would you ask this question in front of a teacher like that you might get in trouble. This is my review for the book Mr. Granite is from Another Planet.

Made it 2 pages after reading about everything the protagonist “Hates” about school and about another girl in class, whom he proceeds to tell to stick her face in a paper shredder. Are you kidding me? An adult wrote this???

After skimming through the many 5 star reviews on this site, it’s clear that they were written by a bunch of 6 to 8 year olds, not responsible parents who actually have expectations for the behavior and language their own children use and are exposed to.

Poor attempt at childish humor and potty talk by an author who had a good plot but lost focus on the trashy dialogue and pervasive negativism. Parents beware.

At a school, some children suspect that their teacher, Mr. Granite may be from another planet. They follow Mr. Granite home. They watch him and collect information that supports their case. At the end of the book, Mr. Granite admits that he is in fact from another planet, and goes back to his home planet.

Evaluation: This is a very fun book!! I really think children would love it. Each chapter ends with a hook, so I think children would want to continue reading it. This is a transitional book. It has a larger font size and plenty of white space on each page. The vocabulary is appropriate for young children. There are also some graphics here and there. This book is part of a series, so children can read more if they enjoy the first book.

Teaching point: I think I would use this book during down time at the end of the day after students have packed up. It does not have a lot of educational value, but it is a fun book to read.

A.J. had tried to find out that Mr.Granite was alien. Later they caught Mr. Granite and Mr. Granite was from the planet Ethinarg. At night A.J and his friends were planning to paint the school green and then they were about to be caught but they were not caught. They were near Mr. Granite’s house so they went to see what Mr. Granite was doing. When they had gotten away they had saw Mr. Granite was making a rocket ship. At the end Mr. Granite’s rocket ship fell out of the sky and A.J. thought Mr. Granite is staying on Earth.

A.J's teacher is a little bit unusual! Him and his classmates think he is an alien, so they follow him home. The principal, Mr. Klutz, says there is no law against aliens teaching.

What I particularly liked about this book is the fact that it's short, sweet, and funny. My favorite character is Andrea.

I disliked the part when Emily cries and runs out of the room.

I would recommend this to kids aged six through nine.

So it's the start of a new school year, and his new 3rd grade teacher Mr. Granite, is out of this world. So he is a super intelligent in astronomy but he comes form a planet called Etinarg his name spelled backwards. This book was super funny. I am 10 but I still enjoy ( MY WEIRD SCHOOL DAZE.) I love the captions on the bottom of the page. When their imagination goes wacky and it comes true I laugh my head out. 5/5 😁

Fun and easy

“They are funny and nice because they have a lot of adventures. An I want my school to be like that because it is a good school and they do exercise while they are learning how to care the planet.” Silvana 8 years and Martin 6 years

This one had my kid in stitches from the first page to the last. He loved the wise-cracking kids (he described them as 'savage'), and the story was suitably ridiculous. It's a certainty we'll be revisiting more books from this series.

Outrageous fun on the topic of green energy. A.J. and his pals learn about potato power while investigating their possibly alien 3rd grade teacher.

There is some comfort in predictability....although I did not actually expect Mr Granite to be from another planet.
