This was a great next step in the ongoing story of the Plague Wars. I like how the plot picks up 10 years later so that a bit more world building has occurred once the Eden Plague was released into the world. Much like the main characters feared in Volume 1, the world powers reacted in fear. This book does not move as fast at first as Eden did; but this is where the plot foundation begins and still it runs at a decent pace. Many of the world's super powers decide the Edens are "Sickos" and starts slaughtering and quarantining them all. Countries fall apart, chaos happens, fear and paranoia reign in many places unless you are "normal". It's not far fetched to see this reaction in today's world and political climate. Other countries stay neutral and people everywhere are caught in between. Of course there is a continuing "rebel" movement and countries that declare themselves open to Edens.
The evolution of Spooky Nguyen and Skull as characters is fantastic! If you think you know where things are headed -- I doubt it. Spooky took the Eden Plague and Skull did not yet they each are working through their own moral dilemmas and emotional turmoils. Did I forget to mention the aliens? Looks like they did not forget about their science experiment on Earth and are trying to finish what they started. What that means to a fragmented world where everyone distrusts each other is for the reader to find out.
There are several twists and turns in this one and a cliff hanger at the end. Be ready to buy Volume 3 immediately to find out what happens next. Sorry no spoilers here, stay calm and read on!
As the author states “It is not a stand-alone story; the reader may find it hard slogging without reading the first book; the Eden Plague “ While this is true I have found many series that are much harder to pick up if you don’t read the first one. Very near the beginning of the story (Location 79 in the Kindle version” there is a summary of previous events headed “Eden Plague History for Dummies” which although I have read the first in the series was a helpful memory jogger. This book is initially more of an international political and conflict novel than the previous one with a slower developing plot, although there is still plenty of action. It also further develops characters introduced in the previous book. I had hoped that there would be more information on Jill Repeth the marine and Christine Foreman the Chaplain, I was not disappointed. About ½ way through the story took a more pure science fiction turn, from info in the previous book I had expected this to happen earlier. Although a science fiction book I did think that it seemed realistic once you accept the basic “facts” put forward by the author which all hold together well. Certainly not a stand-alone book but part of a good solid “serial” rather than “series” which ends with which is quite probably a change in direction. I look forward to reading the next in the set.
This series has certainly kept me captivated and avidly reading, hoping for a happily ever after, finally. I am still waiting. Each book adds more depth to these characters, more intrigue and tons of suspense. I often find myself rereading spots, trying to figure out where the story is leading me. I'm still looking, and on to the next book. If you like action, war time heroics and serious political intrigue in the midst of aliens, nanotechnology and religious idealism, then you will love this series.
This is a well-written book life as it could be after a different type of plague. Well written as all have been. The is number 5 of the series. Looking forward to reading more of this series.
The series is fun, a few interesting ideas, and decent pacing that keeps you reading. Some cognitive dissonance between the authors obvious political beliefs/leanings and the ways the general public react to events. (Who the sheeple are, and what group reacts in what ways. Its especially highlighed by todays political climate...). The series does tend to get bogged down in trying to support author's political slant, and can get preachy, but that lessens as you get into the series. Overall worth the time for the underlying story and exploration of the Eden plauge and the alien threat, and how we react to those changes. I started first in the last series, and have been picking up the earlier sections to bring it all together, and get the back stories. It gets better as you get further along, and get away from the author's personal politics (though it may also be that the author has grown too). So finally, if you enjoy sci-fi action adventure with lots of military and spy stuff, with an interesting twist on an alien threat that has complication and depth, and a twist, this is a worthy read.
This is the first book of the series that just wasn't written well. Inconsistencies, boring dialogue, and a rushed feeling overall. Just really felt thrown together, especially towards the end.
I'm going to have to look over reviews of the next book to see if I want to continue.
So here we are, Daniel and his family threatened by super soldiers, there alien slash friend kidnapped, and a new threat from space the Edens have there hands full. You just can't trust anyone it seems. The story just gets better and better, hopefully there will be peace sometime in the future but for now they continue to fight for what is right.
Definitely looking forward to more! Great characters and a well paced storyline are keeping me interested in this many layered tale that has aliens, plagues, nuclear war and is bristling with covert ops.

The series moves on to its second phase - Alien Invasion.
Several familiar characters appear, one or two in new rôles (or perhaps just redefined rôles). A new world order starts to take shape, following the fall of the Big Three - just as a new threat appears from outide the solar system. Luckily mankind has an unexpected ally...
The series continues to be readable and enjoyable - at times stretching credibility but never to breaking point. I'm looking forward to the following volumes - at least five more before the 'space' sequels.
Excellent followup to the first book. I definitely wanted to follow this second book, as I liked the first and could see some new directions coming.
Somewhat slow start, more background to establish the direction this is going, introducing a much larger cast of characters and developing more information on the Plague effects. I suspected some of this would be coming at the end of the first book and it was extremely well done. Once past the 'establishing the ground rules' you get to the page turning part.
The nanobot technology seems realistic, given that this book establishes the alien origin as does the actions of the characters within the parameters of the Plague infections. This second book introduces much more fractured political policies and a much broader spectrum of Plague-induced effects.
I truly enjoyed one of the newly introduced characters, Skull, as well as the ongoing cast from the first book. In some ways, more action, particularly on a global scale, more character development and a greater depth in the storyline.
The author manages to close out this particular series of events to the extent he avoids my aversion to "cliffhanger" endings and at the same time leave some major plot elements for the third book. I am definitely looking forward to the third, which is now on my 'auto-buy' list.
It's been ten years since "The Eden Plague." Things haven't got any better on Earth. Politics, backstabbing and aliens here and on the way. About half the inhabitants of Earth have the Eden Plague while the other half fights against getting it.
A great submarine section in the story, nukes, nanobots...and much more.
I liked "The Eden Plague" more than this second addition to the Plague Wars series. But if you like hard science fiction, you should love this series.
I am very happy with the second book. After 10 years many things have change in the world. Sci fi is very good and credible. Only one thing I didn't like about the book, that's why in my opinion it miss the five star rating. This major event was over the top and up to one point it look like it didn't have an impact on some of the situations developing. But is ok, others may find this irrelevant, overall a good read.
The writing style is fine, it was the content that brought it down for me. When I read near future SciFi I need to believe that if the extraordinary event happened (in this case the virus which heals) then the people would actually react in the way described, and in this case there is no way this would happen.
This was a good second installment to the series. Lots of action, great descriptions, and some surprising twists for characters from the first book. Not quite as good as the first book, if only because the focus changed, but still very good.
This one wasn't as awesome as the first three. It jumps ahead ten years in the time line. That bothered me a bit. There are so many characters at this point that I wasn't able to really connect with any of them. I'm committed to the series at this point. So I will probably keep reading
