House of Lords #3

The Earl and His Virgin Countess

Lord Andrew Masterson, Earl of Windenshire, has had a string of bad luck with women. While his best friends are all getting leg-shackled, he can't seem to get a lady to stay in his presence long enough to court them. Not sure what he might be doing wrong, he turns to Madame Evangeline, hoping she can help him change his luck. Betrothed since before her birth to Lord Masterson, Miss Miranda Beauchamp has prepared to be his countess ever since. Although the Earl of Windenshire maintains her upkeep and pays for everything she needs, she might as well not exist for all the attention he pays her. Determined to break the marriage contract, she'll go to desperate measures to achieve her goal, even if it means losing her virginity to do so. Can Madame Eve show Andrew and Miranda there is more than a contract between them? Or will family secrets and years of hurt be too much for the earl and his virgin countess to overcome?

This was OK. It starts out great but kind of flounders and I found myself skimming the second half.
If you like historical accuracy in your HR reads... best pass this one by. I didn't mind so much but there were large plot holes that are almost impossible to ignore.
The schtick with this series is that Madame Eve is a magical madame who sets up one night stands for the upper crusties. Kind of a pimp/matchmaker. All her arrangements end in love or long term satisfying affairs.

Not sure quite how old Miranda is, but she's been waiting her whole life to marry Andrew. Their families have a betrothal contract that just awaits Andrew to get his head out of his arse and come get her. I mean she lives next door for crying out loud! ... and yet he doesn't recognize her with or without her mask.
Anyhoo, they meet at a masked ball and he whisks her into the garden. She knows who he is but when she finds that he doesn't know her she is humiliated. She punches him (hard!), and runs off. I loved it!!
Her aunt Sarah contacts Madame Eve so that Miranda will lose her virginity which will nullify the contract between her and Andrew. But who should show up for her night of sin but....? You guessed it!
There's not much more to the story except the banal mystery of Andrew's ignorance.
It was entertaining but boring at the same time. Lots of sex but I would have liked more dialogue. Miranda became kind of fluffy emptyness in the second half.

Miranda has been waiting for her betrothed to acknowledge her but he does not know she exists. At a masked ball he asks her out to the garden and when in the maze where she introduces herself to him, he has no recognition or knowledge of her so she punches him. With that she memorable. When Andrew, Lord Masterson, her betrothed, figures he will have take matters into his hands through Madame Eve, little does either know she will set them up. It does not start out well.

I enjoyed this story. Miranda is feisty and bold even with all the lessons she has been taught on how to be a good wife and countess to Andrew. He tells her that what she has been taught is not what he wants and he shows her. He also realizes what has happened that he had no idea about the contract. I love the two of them together. He's teaching and she's overcoming her shock of what lovers do with each other. I liked his protection of her and her care of him. I liked that he knows he cannot get away with anything or she'll hurt him. I had fun watching the two of them together. A perfect read for a summer night.

Ms. Eastwick has another home run with The Early and His Virgin Countess. She effortlessly blends history, romance and plot beautifully and yet makes it fresh and fun.

Miss Miranda has been groomed to be a countess since birth. Growing up she learns everything that will be required of her, but the position starts to lose its sparkle. Not to mention that the earl acts as he doesn’t know her when in her company and she is continually being reminded of his many exploits. After a masked encounter she is done with him and is determined to break the betrothal. The only way possible, for a woman of her time, is for her to lose her well guarded virginity. With the help of Madam Eve, she will definitely have a night she will never forget.

Lord Andrew has met a fiery masked woman and all he can recall about her is his black eye. While the woman intrigues him, he has little desire to search her out, but why bother when you can call on the renowned services of Madam Evangeline. She has done wonders for his friends and maybe she can help him find a lovely woman with the same endearing qualities that his friends have found.

Brought together for a night of passion, but things take a sharp turn. What these two people receive instead, is a new outlook on life. One night that will forever change their lives.

This was such a unique 1NS story. I loved how Ms. Eastwick changed it up and added a bit more length. There were so many initial obstacles for them to get over and they accomplished it wonderfully. Lord Andrew’s honor was unsurpassed and Miss Miranda’s loyalty was beautifully bright. Thank you Ms. Eastwick for sharing their beautiful story of love and forgiveness. You wrote with richness and depth and brought this couple to life. You did an amazing job with so few words. It’s a huge credit to your writing ability. You have succeeded again in capturing my heart with your House of Lords series.

Miranda is sick of waiting for her fiance to decide on a wedding date. He totally ignores her and she stays in the country isolated with no romance. She didn't even get a season.

Andrew is bored and when he finds the invitation to an anonymous sexual encounter it captures his interest. He doesn't expect Miranda and her anger towards him. It turns out there is a big misunderstanding and they will have to sort it all out to see if they have something real.

This is a short story. It moves fast and keeps you interested. I really enjoyed Miranda's aunt and her help in educating Miranda about sex. Miranda really tests Andrew's limits and there interactions are fun and sexy.

I received a copy in return for a honest review.

Book three in the House of Lords Series delivers. This story has some laugh out loud moments and enough intrigue to keep you reading until the end.

Miranda was promised in a marriage contract to Andrew since birth. However, he has never acknowledged her existence. In an attempt to break the contract, Miranda goes to Madame Eve's. What will happen when she comes face to face with her betrothed?

I really hope that this will not be the last book in the series. Madame Eve's should continue to do business with the ton, in my opinion.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
