Highland Hellion is by B.J. Scott latest release in a brand new series and the first book in the Blades of Honor. Series. For fans of the Fraser brother trilogy you will be happy that all the brother Connor, Alastair and Bryce and their families will also have a big part in this book. It is always fun to hear from old friends..
Scottish Highlands, 1316
Allegiance's change after Battle of Bannockburn Robert the Bruce claims the throne and made the Scot's who did not support him and tearing and a civil war occurred worse then with England. As Brother fought against brother, cousin against cousin as Scot's were fighting Scots's. Also it was horrible time for those who didn't support the winning King in this case Robert the Bruce. As many were cast out of their homes and castles and lands forcing the Scot's to living in the hills on barren lands where nothing would survive or grow. On top of that these people were not allowed to hunt. Scot's living in these horrid conditions did what they had to survive and that was to raid as what choice did they really have as you have to eat to survive. As this was the case with the heroine of the story Ayra MacEachan and for a woman to be caught stealing the punishment was a serve lashing and death by drowning without even a trial as Lords of this castles were the law on itself. As these were difficult frightening times for both the men and women of Scotland.
Ayra MacEachan is the heroine who father taught her manly pursuits like hunting , weaponry and to straddle,a horse. Which many may think unusual she being a lass. At a sad turn of event her father is struck down in battle as it is a difficult time in Scotland . After The Bruce's victory in her clan is cast out of their castle and land and forced to live in the barren hill. Then the hero of this story Garrett MacDougall the leader of his displayed is tricked by a traitor to steal from the new Lord of Agryll, who is actually living in Ayra's families former Castle and land. Ayra is worried about her dying mother and but is very a strong willed woman who dresses like a man or take no for an answer from men and can wield a sword and throw a dagger better then many men.
Garret who is the hero of this book very much in love and wants to be with her forever if only she would accept him. As he adores this headstrong independent lass plus he made a promise to Ayra's mother that he wouldn't bring her on anymore raids. Of course without much convincing and a few threats from Arya he brings her along but things go bad as they were tricked by a traitor and many of his men are killed and Arya is set to be flogged and executed by drowning without a trial by this new Lord of Agryll!
Then lifelong secret is revealed from Arya's mother and Garrett is force to received a plan to hopefully rescue the woman he loves from their worse enemy the Fraser brothers which is very difficult to accept.
Will they be able to rescuers Arya in time ? What is this secret that Arya's mother has been holding? Will Garrett's dream to marry Arya ever come true and will ever ever accept him being so strong willed? You will have to read this marvelous book to find out.
I really enjoy Highland Hellion and recommend it as it was another face paced adventure that you really feel for this exiled clan who are living under such horrid conditions during such turbulent times

I really liked this story. Arya was too independent by far, but I still liked her character. Garrett was determined to marry her. I liked Garrett, but wish his character would have been less catering. I was excited to read more about the Fraser brothers. Anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.

Writing was good, story line's were interesting, the heroin was really unlikable a spoilt Nast little thing kind of ruined the story for me but I read on.

Oh this was awful. How did it ever get so many good ratings? jeez. Okay maybe it wasn't the most awful of awful but the amount of dumb crap we had to deal with from the heroine Arya layered on top of a predictable storyline really is what cinched it for me.
I had such hope when I began this book. It was my first by B.J. and I love me some highlanders but this...I don't know what this was. This book in particular had some serious editor issues. Minor issue in the gran scheme of it all but still irritating when it begins happening so often, which it did.
Garrett I did like in the beginning. He seemed sweet and he loved our heroine to distraction, hell bent on getting his woman to agree to marry him. But as the book progressed his character naturally began to tank just as our heroine's. He caught some stupid real quick toward the end, making dumb decisions that made no sense when he knew Arya so well and he fact The Campbell's were watching for her. Dumb dumb dumb.
Arya was a train wreck. Contrary, stubborn, impulsive to the point of reckless. Her whole "no man will own me I'm an independent woman" schtick got old so fast. I get why she was tough and why she had to be that way but good lord it was impossible to like her. She was so defensive and immature. I couldn't take it. And her hot and cold attitude with Garrett really pissed me off! She didn't deserve his concern or love for the way she treated him.
I nearly didn't finish this book but I skipped to the end just to be done with it. I was interested in the third book in the series originally but now I don't think it'll be worth wasting my time. Arya’s mother, Scotia has a big secret and she calls upon the Fraser brothers, Conner, Bryce and Alasdair, to come help rescue her daughter. Once her secret is out this means for big changes in Arya’s life.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story by B J Scott. It was such fun having the Frasers show up in the story and be able to catch up with their families and their lives once again. I did get very frustrated with Arya because she was a little too headstrong sometimes which ended her up in serious trouble as well as those around her. But as always with a Highland adventure things tend to get sorted out. Check out this new book by B J Scott and take a trip to Scotland and if you haven’t read the Fraser trilogy add those to your reading list also.

OMG…B.J. Scott has done it again!!! In her newest book, Highland Hellion, Arya MacEachean did not grow up learning the things a woman needed to get a man. She grew up with the skills that only a man should possess. She makes a mistake with her love, Garrett and is caught by the enemy. She is then sentenced for execution. Her Mother fearing the worst, calls together the Fraser brothers to help rescue her daughter. Scotia then reveals that Arya is their sister. The rescue is successful, but Arya does not want to believe she is kin to the “enemy”. To keep her safe, she is taken to the Fraser castle, and meets her new in-laws. She is very out of place, but events occur that makes her think twice about them. With her mother close to death, she needs to return to be by her side, even though it is dangerous for her. Garret accompanies and professes his love for her…Arya is also in love with him, and they make love for the first time.
This is all I will reveal…you need to read this awesome book for yourself to find out what happens in the end. You will be glad you did!!!

I thoroughly enjoyed Highland Hellion! Arya and Garrett were great! Arya, truly was a hellion. I loved how the author had all of the Fraser's included in this story. Arya had lost her father when she was younger, but not before he taught her just about everything you would teach a lad who would be a warrior. She was even better than some of the men. Garrett, has been in love with the hellion since he could remember, but she won't have him. She says she will never marry and he hopes to change her mind or die trying. I loved the fact this was not too vanilla.
Arya, discovers she has more family than she thought, but they are the enemy.
This story had me not wanting to put it down. I now have to go back and read the Fraser trilogy. I wish I would have read those first. I will do so now and await the book that follows Highland Hellion in July.

I hated Arya. HATED her. She's insanely headstrong and determined to prove that she can do anything a man can do--to the point that she has absolutely no common sense, sense of self preservation, or regard for anyone else's safety or well being. None at all. She is her own worst enemy and is too stupid to live. Clan MacDougal is destined for failure because their laird (who happens to be Garrett) has no backbone whatsoever and allows Arya to use his penis as a tow rope. The people of Clan MacDougal are all idiots too. I would have rated this 2 stars but I enjoyed the parts that included any of the Frasers so much that I bumped it up a star just for them.

Tomboy in Medeavil Scotland
I found the premise of a girl tomboy in Medeavil Scotland to be unrealistic. Because of this, I gave it only three stars. Also, I felt the episodes weren't long enough. I guess I didn't care for the story. It seemed rushed. No, I would not recommend this book to a friend.

What a way to start another series. B. J. Scott has done it again. I loved Arya and thought she was a great heroine and Garrett was not giving up on Arya no matter what happened. All in all once again I had a hard time putting this book down to go to sleep at night

Such A Good Story!

What a load of tripe!
Whoever decided that ROMANCE authors need to hop on the feminist bandwagon and agree it is a great idea to inject a lot of Social Justice Warrior bs into a Historical Romance needs to have their head examined.
How is this a Romance?
There is nothing Romantic about a shrewish female lead and a bumbling idiot Hero who can't survive without her.
There is also nothing historically accurate or contextually significant about the story or the main leads to make me feel good about having read this.
Arya is a modern-day super-hero action figure and an ungrateful b*tch to boot.
Who in their right mind would accept the kind hospitality of strangers and then proceed to argue with them, tell them to shut up (hold your wheesht) and even interrupt them "Please, Cailin, let him speak." and then 'nod to Connor' (implying Connor now has PERMISSION to speak... in his own house?) Then turn around and verbally abuse said hostess for not raising their children correctly.
Give me a huge break.
This book made me angry for a number of reasons, and I will never again force myself through another novel written by a SJW advocate.
Keep your personal beliefs, opinions, and ideals to yourselves, authors, and just write a damn ROMANCE for gosh sake!
If you seriously must inject, why not try a Contemporary? Your feminist ideals and penchant for writing rude, shrewish female leads will feel a bit more in line with the time that way.
If this is how B.J. Scott always writes, then this will be the last novel of hers that I ever read.

Arya is a feisty heroine. She drinks, curses, dresses , rides and fights like a man. Garrett has loved her his whole life. This is an interesting, fast paced historical book. I enjoyed Arya and all her bull headed anti feminine antics . I like the history in it and the action. Made me feel as if I was in the book watching. Also makes me want to read the books that are of her brothers.

Set in a era long ago, the reader got a glimpse of how the people lived then and their determination to survive. It should have been proofread again, but that didn't sidetrack the reader too much.

Started out with actual historical set-up so was eager to tuck in and enjoy the story, but quickly hated Arya (the feisty "I can do everything a man does" feminist shtick is surprisingly trite these days), don't understand why Garrett wanted anything to do with her, and the whole premise of involving a rival clan in her rescue with the story she was their half-sister was a stretch. Her mom also set the record for longest deathbed scene ever, and that three-day journey (if they pushed it) back and forth between Oban and Fraser castle must've have a wormhole because it certainly seemed to bend to accommodate whoever was traveling and Scotia's sudden demise when it suited the plot.
Then there were the editing goofs. Some lines I had to read a few times to make sense and then one whole paragraph near the end had Garrett referring to himself in the third person and I still don't know what was going on. Odd punctuation errors (even stray parentheses ending random inner dialogues), incorrect words or tenses... Just not ready for publishing, IMHO. I might have been able to excuse some of that if I'd at least cared about the story or people.

I read "Highland Legacy" and really enjoyed it and decided to start this series to see if I liked it as well.
I don't know what it is, but I feel like this book was written by an entirely different person than other BJ Scott books. Arya was an unbelievable character, and so was Garrett. I mean, really?
All in all, it's just not very well written, the plot doesn't make any sense, and I really didn't care about Arya at all. Like, honestly, she kinda deserved everything--she seemed like a major pain in the ass.

Interesting story
Good read about the typical stubborn girl wanting to be equal with the men of her clan. Sometimes I won if that happened in real life during that time as often as the books seem to say. Somehow I don't think so. But an engaging storyline and great characters. Lovely read.

I chose the book because I like the Highlanders of Scotland the book was very very good keep you on your toes and wanted to read more couldn't put the book down thank you

July 18, 2016Maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind, but being continuously aggravated by the heroine's antics to the point I wanted to slap the crap out of her just didn't make this an enjoyable read for me. DNF.
