New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Catherine Bybee delivers the fifth heartwarming, flirty novel in the wildly popular Not Quite series.
Mary Kildare knows how to read people. It’s both why she makes a great therapist and why she refuses to trust the average bachelor. Staying fiercely independent has been her primary relationship strategy—until wealthy playboy pilot (and commitmentphobe) Glen Fairchild reappears in her life. After a yearlong teasing tug-of-war, Mary and Glen test the waters of attraction, only to find that their physical chemistry runs deeper than flirtation.
At first, a bicoastal romance suits them both—especially since Glen can swoop in and whisk Mary away on one of his company’s planes. But no matter how close they get, they’re still three thousand miles apart. And when Mary’s life is threatened, Glen realizes the one luxury he doesn’t have is time. Can he close the distance between them before it’s too late?

New York Times bestselling author Catherine Bybee was raised in Washington State, but after graduating from high school, she moved to Southern California with hopes of becoming a movie star. After growing bored with waiting tables, she returned to school and became a registered nurse, spending most of her career in urban emergency rooms. She now writes full-time and has penned the International Bestselling Not Quite series, the MacCoinnich Time Travel series as well as the Internationally Bestselling Weekday Brides series.
Her books have been translated in over twenty languages.
As cheesy as this may sound, this book was dreamy! This was such a pleasant surprise for me. I've never read Catherine Bybee and didn't know what to expect when I started this story. In fact, the beginning had me worried. Sometimes slow burn stories don't work for me. It's hard for me to see the couple truly into each other if it takes a while for them to get there.
You learn right at the beginning that this couple met a year prior and while there was attraction, neither made a move for a year. Then when Mary contacts Glen, as a last resort, to attain the phone number of his sister-in-law, he was cocky. Glen is described as a player, commitment phobe and arrogant. Not a recipe I like in my Hero's. But that didn't last long and this quickly turned into so much more.
Glen takes this chance to ask Mary out and he won me at the first date. I don't think I've read a more romantic first date and then the second date was even better. Stick a fork in me cause I was done! Just that quickly Glen became the sweetest most romantic man the author could have possibly written. Not that he needed it, but then Glen won me over even more when Mary was put in danger and then the epilogue! Wow! Just Wow! It's safe to say I loved it!

This is part of a series and since past couples figure prominently in this one (as has Mary and, to a lesser extent, Glen in prior books), it's a good idea not to start with this one. Also having read the others, you know more or less what to expect so I'll keep this review light.
I really liked what Bybee does with Glen and Mary. They really worked as a couple and she does a great job illustrating their complimentary strengths and fundamental compatibility. Additionally, I really liked Mary's "mom", the ex-nun, along with other touches that were really well-handled. To counter that somewhat, Mary feels more than a little out of her depth professionally and I had a hard time taking her seriously as a therapist. Also, the whole danger plot wasn't very well supported as the villain's "break" was more convenient than it was believable.
So some minor plot issues, but with a couple I really enjoyed and some lovely relationship byplay that was just fun to be present for. Also, ex-nuns are a whole lot more fun than I'd been lead to believe (and not in a cheesy, rebel way, either).
A note about Steamy: There are a couple explicit sex scenes, but after the initial rush, Bybee mostly doesn't go into detail. So there's really only one that has much detail to it and the others are mostly alluded to and then you move on. Also, I kinda liked how Glen had so much class in his dating. It's not the traveling that drew me, as that would just be showing off his wealth. What I liked was the thought he put into pleasing Mary and that he obviously got real enjoyment in delighting her.
Therapist Mary Kildare has lived a solitary and independent life although over the past year Mary has been having a kind of tug-of-war friendship with rich, playboy pilot Glen Fairchild. When their friendly banter starts to turn into something more serious they find themselves in a bi-coastal relationship flying back and forth between states spending time with each other. But when Mary's safety is threatened by a mysterious stranger, Glen needs to protect her. I found this a very sweet romance between this couple, very easy with just a few small speed bumps, very likable characters with a very likable story line. Very expressive narration by Amy Mc Fadden.
Loved it! So sweet and swooney with perfect contemporary romance. Glen is practically perfect in every way. Mary was a good female lead. Biggest problem was that the bad guy was very obvious and thus Mary had some stupid moments in her otherwise smart personality. Still, a very sweet and entertaining story. Great addition to the series. Can't wait for the next one. Happy reading!
What a delightful and sweet beach read, in fact, I read it on the beach ;) I tend to crave an entertaining chick-lit book with engaging, fun characters and witty conversation. The added suspenseful element to the story made it even more enjoyable.
Mary, left on the steps of a Catholic Church at age one and raised in an orphanage, is being wooed by, Glen, the jet setting pilot and CFO of a world wide charter company, and is a total player. This is the kind of HEA I need to "take me away" for a good while when relaxing in my swimsuit :D The nun, Sister Mary Frances, who raised Mary at the orphanage is a hoot!
Glen just cannot get this perky, curly haired blonde off his mind. They met ten months ago through mutual friends, and while the chemistry is undeniable between them, it seems whenever they are in the same vicinity all he seems to do is irritate her. Mary knows he is a player, and she doesn't do one night stands. She is hoping for the "forever" kind of guy, and the word "forever" is not in his vocabulary. Not to mention they live 3000 miles apart, he on the east coast and she on the west. Mary is also not Glen's type; a bit too reserved for his taste. Yet he continues to pursue her and tries his darnedest to become the right kind of man she is looking for!
Mary was totally gun shy to go out with Glen, knowing it would never lead anywhere and worried it would affect their relationships with his/her friends when their dating escapades eventually come to an end, as he never dates long term. But, of course, who can say "no" to lust and a gorgeous man? All in all, this is a really good romance!

This book was not what I thought it was going to be....but in a good way.
It surprised me. More than once. Just when I thought I had it figured out, that I knew what was going to happen, that I knew the pacing and had an idea of how it was going to play out, it switched. The plot changed. The pace changed, and it became something else.
It is not easy for me to detail this without giving it away...so I guess I will have to say that this book just worked for me. I liked Glen and Mary. A lot. I liked them together and I liked who they were on their own, which is refreshing. I loved that there were breadcrumbs to the ending all throughout the story and that Catherine Bybee let you go along with them as their relationship evolved.
I loved that Glen was just there. That he didn't go anywhere. To me, this is how it should be when it is right. Yes, the character breakups, the overreactions, the running when things get tough adds to the drama...but sometimes it is nice to read about someone who decided where he wants to be...and when the stuff happens, he stays.
This was the first of the series that I have read...and I will be going back to read the others (which I actually think I already have on my Kindle). I recommend this book.
Glen is a hot pilot and Jacks brother, we met Jack in book 1. The brothers own a very exclusive plane rental company. Glen is a bit of a player and thinks he is not ready for any type of relationship. That is until he meets Mary!
Mary has had a very different upbringing to Glen, she was abandoned as an infant and bought up by a nun in a children's home. She is now a counsellor who helps couples fix their relationships but at thirty with all her friends getting married and having kids, Mary is thinking it may be time to settle down.
Mary and Glen have met before and they have a strong attraction that can't be denied, so they decide to give things a chance and see where it goes. When someone breaks into Mary's place destroying all her stuff, Glen starts to realise just how strong his feelings are.
I really enjoyed the suspense element, it added a lot. I also liked that we got more of Dakota and Walt and got introduced to their baby Leo.
Another great read in this series, unlike all the other female characters in this series I found Mary a lot more vulnerable and soft than the others but I still really liked her. After the start to life she had you can't help but wand Mary to find her happily ever after.
I found this book and the story incredibly slow and boring. The heroine, Mary, was a college educated therapist yet she only had one friend whom she met because she lived across the street. The hero, Glen, lives on the east coast and knows Mary casually. He decides they should date even though they live on different coasts. He owns a charter airline and can flyover whenever he needs to see her. After a lackluster love scene (sex) about 70 % through the story we learn Glen wants children and Mary doesn't. This difference is not resolved. We are treated to her friend having a baby and everyone in the family rushing to the hospital, the plumbing problems in her apartment for chapter after chapter and the love story of an ex-nun in great detail. There is a plot twist of a stalker but this isn't the main premise of the book. I'm sorry to say This was not quite what I hoped it would be.
Sorry to say this book just didn't work for me. It took forever for me to read and I just couldn't get myself to care about the characters. Oh well they can't all be 5 stars...
Having thoroughly enjoyed all seven books in Ms. Bybee’s “Weekday Bride series”, this NetGalley reviewer was thrilled to be gifted an ARC in exchange for an honest, unbiased opinion for Not Quite Perfect. Seriously, if you haven’t read that series, I strongly encourage you to check into it.
This book was not quite what I expected, my romance book loving-friends. Granted I haven’t read any of the previous four books in this particular series, so wasn’t familiar with the rather large cast of sub-characters. But I can easily shake that off, as I’m always more about the main couple/romance than anything else. At 43% though, I was still waiting for something significant to happen. Mary and Glen were still just getting to know each other, didn’t feel like a couple. Extensive details about the heroine’s plumbing repair job and dating life of a much older dear friend, who happens to be a former nun, demonstrate the lack of exciting material here, folks.
What needed to be left out was the out of the blue questions/discussions regarding the hero’s former dates/lovers, as well as the heroine’s admission to getting caught dating two guys at the same time in college. If it was supposed to endear me to this couple, it didn’t work. I’m not a fan of a player hero, even if he may now “finally” be willing to change his ways for the heroine. With Mary’s own constant inner speculation she needed to enjoy Glen the short time he likely wanted her, it hardly sets the tone for a genuine soul connecting romance.
Also, I think it was definitely inappropriate to include the whole antagonist, even what some would consider slanderous/offensive comment regarding why her “like a mom to me” nun friend left the Catholic Church. Frankly, it felt like a swipe at that religion, and that plain and simply is wrong. My personal suspicion this author has a beef against this particular religion was pretty much confirmed in her “acknowledgement” section at the very end where she congratulated nuns who have the courage to leave the Church to find another calling. Her exact words, “Stay strong, ladies” are still ringing in my ears.
Except for the intriguing break-in/mysterious stalker drama, a large amount of time was also spent detailing the back and forth private jet dating jaunts from the East Coast to West Coast and vice versa. At first it seemed romantic and exciting, but, then, well, it wasn’t because it became mondaine.
It takes the hero until 80% before he admits to himself that he actually loves her, and that is when the pace finally picks up and wraps up with the stalker’s identity revealed and the inevitable violent showdown. Folks, I’m not sure it was worth it. To read a book that is only 20% riveting/engaging, and that isn’t until the very end doesn’t quite seem worthy of my time.
Btw, this couple actually met some time ago, had some serious interested eye contact, exchanged phone numbers, but never acted on it. That may have dampened my enthusiasm for them as a couple, as well. Of course, I’m glad to see they got a HEA. As much smexy time they spent naked together while just “in like” with each other, it would be a shame for them not to have finally moved on to the “in love” phase.
Here’s to hoping my review is helpful in giving you some insight to determine if this book is perfect or not quite perfect enough for your romantic literary taste.

Yes! A new Catherine Bybee book - it doesn't matter what I have read of hers, I just adore it.
Not Quite Perfect is just that. Mary and Glen's relationship is not perfect - but it is perfect for them.
From sexy flirtations, witty banter, snarky, biting comments. This is all extended foreplay for our lovelies.
I love that Mary is independent. She takes no crap from anyone, and won't ask for help even when she really should.
Glen is the playboy pilot, commitment phobe... or has he just not met the right woman.
There is so much sexual tension between this pair, everyone around them can feel it, can see what is going to happen between this pair... will they or won't they?
I love how Ms Bybee weaves all of the characters from her series together. Walt and Dakota (from book 4, Not Quite Forever) play a big part in Mary and Glen's story, and I loved getting more of their story.
There is suspense, love, laughs - but no angst! - Not Quite Forever. I kinda had an idea of some things that would happen, but nothing was revealed until Ms Bybee wanted us to know.
Not Quite Perfect is a sweet summer (or winter!) read, leaving a smile on my face when I had finished.
This is a satisfying contemporary romance story that has the right amount of everything; great characters, witty dialogue, steamy chemistry, and a touch of danger.
The writing is well done. The characters are charming, intelligent and likeable; complete with a charismatic playboy, and a reluctant therapist. And the plot has all the elements we love about rom coms, as well as a few extra twists that give it that little bit more.
This really is an engaging, easy read that is thoroughly enjoyable, and I highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley, especially Montlake Romance, for providing me with a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.
Catherine Bybee is quite an artist as a writer. I have read all of the "Not Quite" series and this book is one of her finest. I loved catching up with the characters from the previous books. This book is Mary and Glen's story. It is fun watching their interactions and their sass toward each other. This book is fun and funny. Mary has someone out to get her and Glen tries to help her. I found I couldn't put this book down once I started it. I highly recommend this book.
This is the third book that I have read from the Not Quite Series and so far I think it's one of my favorites! I don't know why... maybe it's the "nun" factor. Sister Mary Frances was such a fun character. I do find Nuns in stories to be quite entertaining! :) So, we have the wealthy playboy pilot and then we have the therapist. That doesn't really sound like a match made in heaven... right?? Mary was left on the steps of a church and raised in an orphanage. She is very reserved and cautious and knows how to read people. Glen and his playboy bachelor ways is definitely not her type. He doesn't do commitment! But, there is an undeniable chemistry between them that eventually leads to something more. I found their coming together to be really romantic. I loved the whole long distance coast to coast relationship. The fact that he is a pilot made working this long distance relationship a little easier. I think part of the reason why this story really won me over is because I always tend to enjoy watching a playboy succumb to the powers of commitment. It takes a pretty awesome woman to achieve this, and Mary was just that. There is also an underlying story of suspense that kept me turning the pages. All in all this is the perfect beach read or wherever you like to spend a quiet afternoon. It's got a little bit of everything I love: entertaining characters, steamy romance, witty banter, and a dash of suspense to tie it all together. A perfect mix for an afternoon of easy reading and a chance to get away from reality. I love this authors writing style. She has a nice way of putting together stories that are always just a little bit different than other books in the same genre. And, I guess that's why I keep going back for more. :)
Many thanks to the publisher for the ARC copy of this title!
I became a huge fan of Catherine Bybee’s when I read her earlier books in the Not Quite series, which is fantastic. When I received an invitation from Ms. Bybee’s publisher, via Net-Galley, to read this book in exchange for an honest review, I eagerly accepted. I thoroughly enjoyed Not Quite Perfect. This book is in the Kindle Unlimited program, and if you’re a member you can read and listen for free!
Mary Kildare is a reserved therapist and a close friend of romance author, Dakota Laurens, the heroine of Not Quite Forever, another great book by the way. She met Glen Fairchild the year before and was attracted to the player, who just happens to be a pilot. With them living on opposite coasts, she never expected to find herself in any type of relationship, not even a bi-coastal one.
Glen has been attracted to Mary from their first meeting. He finally decides to act on that attraction. After all, being on each side of the country just might be perfect for him. It’s not like the distance will be a real problem when he can easily hop in his plane and be there in a few hours.
As they grow closer and Mary is being harassed by an unknown stalker, can Glen get there in time to save her, or will the distance prove too much?
This is another fast-paced story with great characters and a unique plot. There is a lot of chemistry between Mary and Glen from the start and it only grows stronger as the story unfolds.
Mary is somewhat of a different character. She is not out-going and enjoys spending time alone. She is independent, determined to maintain that way. Yet, when Glen starts up their flirtation, she can’t resist the temptation.
Glen is a great hero. I liked him from the start, even though he is definitely a playboy. I liked his willingness to see where this fierce attraction will lead. He’s a true romantic at heart, but just doesn’t know it.
One thing a particularly liked about this story is the suspense/mystery element. Ms. Bybee had me guessing until the end as to who the stalker actually is. If you are looking for a book that will keep you wondering and sitting on the edge of your seat, then Not Quite Perfect will be perfect for you. Happy reading!
'Not Quite Perfect' was such an enjoyable read. I loved going through this journey with Mary and Glen. Their story was full of sweetness and love, fun times and smiles, sexy times and adventures, and just enough (predictable) suspense to shake up the story.
I truly liked Mary and Glen together. I'm not always a fan of "player" types, but Glen pleasantly surprised me. He was still super charismatic, but he treated Mary with complete respect, and I loved that. Mary was intelligent and independent, but she still gave Glen a chance. I loved watching her open up, take a risk with him, and blossom under love. They were a wonderful couple, and I enjoyed the pacing of their relationship and the sweetness of their romance.
Along with the romance, there is an underlying current of mystery and suspense as Mary found herself in danger and under threat. Now, to be honest, it didn't take much for me to solve. But despite that, what I really enjoyed was how Mary and Glen's reactions to the danger actually brought them closer together.
There is also a super sweet character in the story that I loved: Mary Francis. She complimented the story in such a great way and I'm so glad Bybee included her. Add in a beautiful, tender ending, and I truly enjoyed this little escape.
I love when a series does that. I also really like how none of these were boring or had a really annoying main character. I just loved all of them. I can't wait to see what else Catherine Bybee will come up with!
Anyhoo, Not Quite Perfect was almost perfect (in my eyes). Mary was a brilliant female lead and I instantly fell in love her. Then there's Glen, who took his time to make me fall in love with him. I loved their playful banter and I was definitely shipping them from their first encounter. Then there's the whole "bad guy" which was completely obvious. Not that I'm complaining - just acknowledging that this book had little mistakes. I obviously overlooked them because I just fell in love with this story.
Overall, it was a really quick and easy read. I don't know how long it took me to officially read because I don't really care about that. I just enjoy reading and I definitely enjoyed this book. And now I want more from this author.
Mary is Dakota bff and neighbour which is how she met Glen Fairchild who's family owns Fairchild Charters flying company. I absolutely love this book sexual drama and Mary diagnosing everyone especially Glen but she realises their can be more then what it seems. This book flows so well I really enjoy reading CB it's a nice easy read but keeps you on your toes with slight tension and drama not just between Hh but also the dangerous situation Mary has herself in. I especially love that even though Glen is the strong hero in the story Mary is independent and strong and doesn't come across as a damsel in destress. I'v also love that so far all book have been available on Amazon kindle unlimited in audio the narrators do a fantastic job getting the individual characters across and the right accents. Love story series and every HEA so far.
I feel like there are a few unresolved things in this book.
What happened to the nightmare couple? Is Mary going to be successful as she was? Was this guy actually an accountant in a law firm? If so HOW? What happened to the guy?
However focused on the love in this story it was lovely. I sympathized with Mary and not having parents, I felt her pain and anguish on having no parents but being raised by nuns and feeling a deep connection to one particular nun. I feel like they honestly love each other, there is a deep sense of love between them and I really enjoy this.
