In one month’s time, seventeen-year-old Cara Tillman will die and be reborn from her own ashes…
Her life of secrecy has never been easy. She’s watched her younger brother, Jeremy, burn and rise again in a coming-of-age process called rebirth. And just like her brother, when her time comes, she won’t remember anything from her first life other than she’s a Phoenix—a member of a small group of people descended from the mythical Phoenix bird.
The last thing she needs to worry about is falling for the new guy in town—Logan Schmidt.
Cara is drawn to Logan in a way she can’t explain, but she’s not exactly complaining. Everything is perfect…except it’s not. Once she’s reborn, she’ll forget Logan. And to make things worse, a Phoenix Hunter is on the loose, and Cara’s involvement with Logan is bringing out her Phoenix qualities—the very qualities that will draw the Hunter right to her.
Desperate times call for desperate measures…
Afraid of hurting Logan, Cara breaks it off for good. But her attraction to him runs deeper than a typical high school crush. She wants him—needs him. And if he proves willing to stay by her side, their love might destroy them both.
Can Cara hide from the Phoenix Hunters long enough to survive her rebirth? And if so, will it mean a new beginning with Logan—or the beginning of the end?
Kelly Hashway fully admits to being one of the most accident-prone people on the planet, but that didn’t stop her from jumping out of an airplane at ten thousand feet one Halloween. Maybe it was growing up reading R.L. Stine’s Fear Street books that instilled a love of all things scary and a desire to live in a world filled with supernatural creatures, but she spends her days writing speculative fiction for young adults, middle graders, and young children. Kelly is also USA Today bestselling romance author Ashelyn Drake. When she’s not writing, Kelly works as an editor and also as Mom, which she believes is a job title that deserves to be capitalized.
As many of you will know, I am always on the lookout for YA books with unique concepts. There's nothing better than reading a book and seeing the way an author has twisted and shaped familiar elements into something new and improved.
That type of author is the kind that can turn an ordinary plot into a tale whose every word keeps you on the edge of your seat. Into The Fire is that kind of book.
So get ready for a smoking hot book yes this is start of my use of Into the Fire puns YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
Book cover: The cover model's hair is a spot-on recreation of how I imagined Cara's red-streaked hair to look. It also makes me want some badass streaks of my own!
The hood she's wearing is a great accessory too, giving her a sense of mystery. Paired with the dark woods and the gold phoenix in the title, this cover is a fiery opener for Kelly Hashway's latest work.
Thoughts: Before we begin, I think I should make one thing clear.
Warning: THIS BOOK CONTAINS A HEARTBREAKING CLIFFHANGER.
If you're anything like me and you have a mental breakdown at even the THOUGHT of a cliffhanger because cliffhangers are the spawn of Satan and break your bookworm heart into tiny little pieces time and time again and have an aversion to cliffhangers then...I'm sorry but this book will break your heart!
To be fair I did see the heartbreak coming from a mile off. I had a horrible little sneaking suspicion at the back of my mind about what would happen but I refused to believe it and stayed in a constant state of denial as always.
Now that we have that out of the way even though my heart will definitely take a good year to recover...back to the actual plot!
Kelly Hashway stuns with her ability to tap into human emotions and expose them in all their raw beauty through her fictional characters. The sibling relationship, for me, was the most potent in this book - not the romantic one, surprisingly.
Being an older sister myself, I choked up at the thought of my brother forgetting me completely like Cara's did. How do you deal with losing the person you love...even when they're still with you? Cara's conflicted emotions and inner turmoil played an essential in making Into the Fire a memorable reading experience.
All in all Into the Fire is the start of what is sure to be an epic series. It sets fire to the typical paranormal concepts and myth bases, presenting readers with a fresh twist on phoenixes and the powers that lurk within the flames.
Favourite quote:
'The look on his face, the way he begged me not to go. He loved me, and that means this imprint is going to be the death of me in more ways than one. It’s going to make me fall in love for the first time, and it’s going to make me lose Logan when I’m reborn. I have to break it. Before it breaks me.'
Into the Fire YA paranormal book about a girl who is a month away from her rebirth into a Phoenix. That alone made me want to read this book! Its not something I've read a lot about before, and Kelly puts a really unique twist on it! While it definitely was completely unique, the story had aspects that reminded me a little of the Lux series so if you're a fan of that then you should totally check out Into the Fire!
Our main character, Cara, is about to become a Phoenix - she'll die and be reborn from her own ashes, giving her extra lives and unique abilities. But in return she will lose her memories of her first life. Its a high price, but a price she's always known she'd have to pay. But then she meets the new guy in town, Logan, and it changes her life completely. And losing her memories in just a month's time becomes an even scarier thought! I definitely felt for poor Cara, especially with her premonition dreams of her rebirth...its like there is a clock constantly counting down to it.
But while Cara is our main character, there are a number of other characters that really make the story. The secondary characters have such an important role to play that they don't feel like secondary characters at all! One of my favourites was Jeremy. He is Cara's brother, and has just gone through his own rebirth. And can't remember anything about his life before it. It was interesting, and sad, to see how he struggled to live up to the person he was before even though he didn't feel like that boy anymore. And Mr Baker! He was such a nice character!
There are a lot of plot twists in Into the Fire - great plot twists! Kelly keeps you guessing all the way through! And as for the dreaded Hunter, I totally didn't guess who it was! After that dramatic ending I can't wait to read the next book!
This book was superb. What a unique concept where the main character is a Phoenix. I can honestly, hand on heart say I've never read a story like it before. Not just because of the plot line, but because of the beautifully crafted characters. Each character, whether primary or secondary, were just as important to the story as each other. Yes, Cara is our lead, but without the cast of supporting characters, you wouldn't have the same story. And what a crying shame that would be. Kelly Hashway certainly knows how to craft a story to pique my interest. She has me hook line and sinker with the first page and always leaves me yearning for more. I am having trouble waiting for book two to come out. I'm not impatient, per se, I just don't like to wait when I know a series is going to be as amazing as I know this one will be. Kelly has a way of pulling me in to her stories and making me feel like there's a live-action movie playing in my minds eye. The way she shows you the story instead of just telling it, that's probably what I like the most about her.
Fans of YA, love stories and unique selling points, INTO THE FIRE is the book for you. You'll fall in love, you'll laugh, shout at your kindle/book and if you're anything like me, there'll be tears too. Make sure you have tissues ready just in case. Oh and if there's some tool to pry your heart out of your throat, grab one of those too.
I have been waiting for this book and this series for quite some time. I heard about it years ago, in a previous iteration, and back before Kelly took off as a published author with her first series, TOUCH OF DEATH. Needless to say, I had high expectations, and Kelly has delivered in flames of fire licking every page, scorching me with her characters of Cara and Logan, and singeing my fingertips as I turned each page. Okay, I lied. As I swiped each ePage. I read an eCopy of the book. You get the idea.
First of all, I loved that this book is written in alternating first person POV. It's not an easy feat to pull off. You have to know which character perspective to write from for each chapter, to best capture all of the tension for each point along the way. Kelly did an amazing job with this, and I was delighted to see her pull off a convincing male character in Logan, among others.
As I read, I got hooked and drawn into the story, and I didn't mind the excessive kissing all the time. I might have flinched like the boy in Princess Bride, whose grandfather comes over to read him the story, and he asks glibly: "Is this a kissing book?" The answer is: most definitely, YES.
I loved the concept of the race of beings who appear human, but are actually descendants of Phoenixes. I have a penchant for phoenixes, and dragons. In fact, I've got a tattoo on my right upper arm from my shoulder down to just above where my shirt sleeve ends above the elbow. Sure, a glimpse flashes here and there, and I've been asked about it more than once, but I love my tattoo of a dragon entwined with a phoenix, and the meaning. I hope book 2 and 3 will explore the Phoenix lore a bit more. While it was referenced well, throughout the book, I did want more, but I guess there wasn't much room because, you guessed it. Kissing. That's way more important, anyway.
I found the traits of a phoenix, before first rebirth and beyond, fascinating. Some traits are positives, like healing, and the shriek. Other traits are not so great, like forgetting everything from your former life, and the fact that there are Hunters bent on stealing the life force or essence from a phoenix to gain prolonged life and eventual immortality. This definitely raised the stakes when Phoenixes started "going up in flames" due to a Hunter on the loose.
At the center of the story is Cara, who must face her first rebirth just when her life finally delivered the boy of her dreams, and she's convinced the premonition dream she keeps having holds the key to finding a way to avoid forgetting about the boy she can't stop kissing.
The climax was horrific, and brought me right to the end, with a cliffhanger that left me begging for more, despite the elevated heat scorching me with every flickering page. This is a must read series for male and female readers alike. I thoroughly enjoyed Kelly's characters and how her chapters are riddled with plot twists and huge stakes. I have a few ideas where I think the next book will go, but I'll wait to discuss until after you've all read your copies and told all your friends to get copies as well.
5 out of 5 stars, or shrieking phoenixes, because, you know, phoenixes.
So, let me tell you how cool it is that I got to read this as an ARC. Kelly Hashway- being so cool- offered a contest for a few bloggers to help read ARCs and share the goodies. I happened to win, and I am seriously STOKED that I got to read this one. I must say, if you haven't read anything by her yet, you should! She is a great writer, but THIS ONE, yeah this one has sealed the deal for me. It's a wonderful new series starter and it's a fantastic plot line with some seriously cool twisting on the paranormal takes of the lore. I loved loved LOVED the phoenix lore that the author has created. And I never thought the bad guy was the bad guy until the almost end of the book. I loved that.
We start with Cara, who is a phoenix, and so is her family. And several town members. But we begin with her watching her brother die and then be reborn. There's a kick, when you are reborn, you forget everything. And in her little freak out about her brother, she accidentally meets Logan.... who she imprints on. Well imprinting is kind of like a mating, but not and but so. LOL It's complicated, because you don't have to finish the imprint, you can chose to forget them. But dude, I would NEVER want to forget Logan either. :) It was fantastic because you get to see both Cara and Logan's POV. Cara is a wonderful girl. She seems like she was always the good girl, made the right choices, followed the rules, took care of everyone. And Logan, he's a sweet boy, but he's going through a heart time with the tragedy in his life. I don't understand his dad's issue- where the hell is he all the damn time. Seriously. And Cara's- her mother may be looking out for her best interests, but I hated her. She went about it all the wrong way. And she never helped herself. It was madness.
And I loved the friends that surrounded Cara, and her brother Blake, and Logan's hilarious friend from NY. And the reason I mention these people is because they don't know about phoenixes, other than her brother. Yet, they still play a pretty big role in their lives. Cara spends a serious amount of this book freaking out. She is trying to deal with the fact that her brother doesn't remember her, her mother hates Logan, she's going to be reborn and forget Logan, oh oh and someone is killing off phoenixes around them. I was seriously sad with the first murder because I really liked that character. I also really liked Monique, and her very fun cafe. :) And the hawt kisses. But I am looking forward to seeing more lore and back story about the phoenix lore and their ancestors.
I am fascinated with the writing. The author definitely made me stick to every page. I was dying to know what was going to happen. And I am heartbroken at the ending. Things are really serious. And there is a cliff hanger so prepare yourself. But dammit it's so awesome. There's so much twisting and mystery and suspense so you won't be able to put this one down. I am salivating to get my hands on book two and I am scorched by this one! Gimme gimme!! I gotta know! :) 5 FIERY PAWS!!!
Into the Fire is a wonderful young adult contemporary romance full of tension and passion. You can relate to both main characters, Cara and Logan, as their relationship blossoms through their family hardships. Yet, is it love? Or is it purely the “imprint”a combination of emotions and an attraction so strong you’re literally drawn to a specific person, no matter how much you attempt to reason with yourself? On top of it all, Cara is no ordinary girl. She is a phoenix, who can live five lifetimes. Her oncoming rebirth and love for Logan drawing a Hunter’s attention.
I was fortunately to have read the first version of Into the Fire, and much has improved in the republishing. One being that there were little additions to certain portions of the novel that helped me piece together details, including basic lay out of the town, school, and falls. Also, as a bonus, there is an extra chapter, which gives us a closer look into the relationship between Cara and her younger brother, Jeremy, as well as her connection with her phoenix heritage. A wonderful concept which I felt could have been expanded through the novel.
Unfortunately, the other purpose of the bonus chapter was to introduce a dead end clue to the mystery of who the Hunter might be. The concept came full circle in the single chapter, making the attempt to include a little more mystery to the novel’s plot seemingly pointless. Also, I felt the chapter was placed a chapter or two too soon in the story’s plotline. The flow was disrupted, especially when it came to Cara’s grief over her separation from Logan.
Another down side, in my opinion, was that I still feel a lot of the dialogue was too continuous and untagged. In reality, people are usually doing something during a conversation (walking, talking with hands, facial expressions, voice tones) that it’s hard for someone like me to read so much continuous dialogue. I feel they are just standing there, no emotion or movement whatsoever.
Despite that, Into the Fire is an amazing read! And with its intense, heart wrenching ending, you’ll want to read the sequel, Out of the Ashes, immediately afterwards.
Into the Fire (Into the Fire, #1) by Kelly Hashway
Into the Fire, Book-Lovers another Ya series, but this time I am quite upset.
On a positive, I am totally loving the cover, the covers for the whole series are lush!
*Insert Sad Face Here* This one for me was really hard for myself to get into *gasp* I know right!
Firstly! Let’s get out now that I hate Cliff hangers, they make me feel sick, like seriously why…*wails* WHY? People, why? Torment us like that!
I am lucky that I have the second book I can dive into. I am a little hesitant though!
Heart break, book-lovers there is so much heart break in this story. All the emotions it’s like a massive roller-coaster ride that I felt there was no getting off on this ride, I was like oh my god what is happening now…
I enjoyed the characters well enough and I am loving Logan more than anyone. Cara is our Phoenix, she is about to go through her rebirth, its actually quite sad what they go through when they change for the first time. Rebirth is a rough trot, when you come back you lose all your memories from your first life sucks to be them!
So many questions, for me left un answered.
Her brother goes through it first; it was really quite emotional to watch it all unfold.
Logan, he is our new boy in our little town. Who is he? What is he? What could he be?
Plot twist and turns, it will keep you invested and it will capture your attention.
Hunters, Phoenix’s, Rebirthing, Heart break and more, what else more do you want from a YA Paranormal read…
You will most likely maybe fall in love, through tantrums and scream out loud, I know this, because I done exactly that when I was reading Into the Fire.
Arc received for an honest review PNR Book Lover Reviews
I had mixed feelings in the beginning of the book. Cara is so tortured about her brother's death and yet she had plenty of time to prepare. If she knew it would happen why was she hoping it would be different. I guess that is just how some people are but I had a hard time identifying with it. The rest was pretty great though except her mom. Being a mom myself I was pretty mad at her for not being more understanding and helpful with Cara's situation. She had imprinted herself, so she of all people should have understood and been more supportive. So I just wanted to smack her most of the time. I loved Logan of course and can't wait to see what happens in the next book. The Phoenix story is interesting and I would like to no more in depth about why they are here. What is their purpose? I also wanted to know what happened to her dad. Why did he die? The bad guy was kind of elusive, but I thought I knew who it was. I wasn't sure until the end though and so that was well written. It did bother me that Cara chose to do something so significant with Logan knowing she would forget it when she "died". Wouldn't you want to remember that kind of thing? It will be interesting to see where the story goes from here. I'm sure there are some very sad times coming for Logan. I hope it doesn't last too long. He deserves some loving.
Cara and her family are phoenixes. In the beginning, Cara has to watch her brother Jeremy be reborn from ashes. After he’s consumed by fire, it’s as if he has amnesia. He remembers nothing, and Cara does her best helping him get by in life by coaching him on who’s who and what’s what. This is quite a shock to Cara…and the thing is she’s next in line. She’s going to be reborn soon.
She falls hard for the new boy in her small town, New Yorker Logan. Cara tries to push him away, but the attraction is too deep. After she’s reborn, all the memories of what they shared will be gone. Another scary thing is there’s a Hunter in town, someone who kills phoenixes to gain their essence. After a friend and fellow phoenix is killed, Cara fears that she’s next because of her strong essence. Also, she’s been having difficulty keeping her powers under wraps around everyone.
This is a great paranormal story heavy on romance. Cara and Logan have fantastic chemistry. I loved the world of phoenixes and all the well-written rules about how they operate. There’s a lot of suspense involving the Hunter and Cara’s upcoming rebirth. The ending was amazing and I can’t wait to read what happens next.
With twists and turns a reader cannot possibly predict, Into The Fire keeps you on your toes! Cara is a character you can cheer for, cry for, and laugh with. She isn't just a myth, she's a typically teenage girl with a secret some people would kill for.
Cara Tilllman watches as her brother burns to ashes and rises again. They are Phoenixes. Cara watches carefully as her brother begins his second life because Cara's rebirth is coming soon.
Who wouldn't want to have a second life? A Phoenix who doesn't want to forget. Cara has met a wonderful guy, Logan, - and is totally in love with him. They can't stay away from each other, but Cara's mom has warned Cara to keep her distance from Logan.
With Cara's rebirth getting closer every day, a danger lurks in their quiet little town. Cara's very life is in danger. What no one suspects is that the Hunter who is chasing and killing Phoenixes is closer to them than they realize.
Once you pick this up, you won't be able to stop until you read the last words!
Ok where do I begin. I mean first a book about phoenixes is cool already but then when you combine Kelly's writing you get a really amazing read. I have loved her writing since I read her Touched by Death series and couldn't wait to try out another one. I loved the whole concept of this book with us meeting Cara and learning what she is and what happens to her when she is reborn was really cool and unique. I loved that the author created something different and not the norm of what is out there. As we get further into the story and we meet Logan I have to say I liked him. He was so damaged and needed help and Cara was the right person for him. I love the start of a budding relationship for them and can't wait to see what the next story brings. When you add in the Hunters too and the fact that Cara was getting close to her rebirth you end up going on quite a ride. That cliffhanger has done me in so hopefully book 2 is coming soon.
An explosive paranormal adventure filled with romantic entanglements, you don't want to miss this start to what is sure to be a scorching new series! I was completely entranced by the new world that Hashway has created, and so glad Cara wasn't the whiny teen that so many of the modern paranormal romances seem to fixate on. Sure she had her complaints but they were completely valid, given she had a boy falling for her when she was about to become her new self. Tons of fun, and at times a bit of a nail biter, Into the Fire is one of those books you can't help but want to read in one sitting, then you get to the end and realize it's over, you're just sitting there wrecked hoping the next book is available sooner rather than later. Great start to the series!
** I was provided a copy of the book for my honest opinion.***
What's not to love! First love, first kisses, and steamy screens. Really steamy-because Cara is a Phoenix. The idea is original and new. I've not read anything about a mythical bird/human hybrid ever. I love Cara and Logan's chemistry and the way they are drawn to each other, like real teens. Everything seems realistic and I'm drawn into the small town of Ashlan Falls.
The bad guy is hinted at towards the center of the story and is a surprise when you figure it out. It's a twist that I thoroughly enjoyed and it worked great. There is no love triangle, and in mind that is a good thing. Cara knows her heart. She's a strong female character who makes you understand each move she makes.
The only issue I have is that it ends on a bit of a cliff hanger and I have to wait for the next book.
Kelly Hashway did it again! Another stellar book with swoon worthy characters and delicious teen angst. I loved the use of phoenixes. A nice change in the supernatural world. Plus the "side effects" of phoenixes was fun! I want natural red highlights and cinnamon scent... even if it means I could accidentally burn the house down when angry! The only downsides... I have a book hangover and it ended with a "OMG I NEED THE NEXT BOOK NOW" urge. A nice, freshing, YA book theme with lovable characters. Two thumbs up!
Note: I received this book free in exchange for reviews but I own all her books and get them signed so I'll buy it eventually! And you should too!
I wasn't sure what to expect from a book about a girl who bursts into fire and rises from the ashes, but this is, at its heart, a young adult romance. Cara is torn between her feelings for Logan and the knowledge that loving her can be very, very bad for his health, especially since she risks bursting into flames every time things "heat up" between them. Whether you're a fantasy reader or not, you'll love the relatable adolescent themes in this book.
Kelly Hashway's first book in the Into The Fire trilogy is a knockout. Fans of Twilight's star crossed lovers will love the romance. But add a who done it twist to the storyline, and you have this book! I am not a big fan of paranormal stories, but I could not put this book down!!!! I'm ready for the next book in the series!
Note, I received an advance copy of this book in order for my honest review.
A lot of how well I rate a book comes down to my overall mood when I'm reading it. I can either be unforgiving or can look past anything. I'm about 20 years past the target audience for this book, and given I read a decent amount of young adult fiction I try to separate out the books that appeal to older readers for those that I feel talk down to the audience. I also spend a good amount of time trying to remember what I read back in the mid-1990s, and the answer always come back to RL Stine.
Kelly Hashway notably was inspired by RL Stine and this book seems crafted in the same style as those I was raised on. There was exposition that was ever-constant, but it didn't bog down the story. Some of the characters were one-dimensional (Looking at Cara's mom and Monique) and others were clearly either bad guys or red herrings (I had it narrowed to Nick, Rob and Mr. Schmidt with two books to go.) and we were treated to the final mustache-twirling reveal in the last couple of chapters. I'm not knocking it. It's not Shakespeare, and didn't wow me, but I sense it wasn't trying to either. It was entertaining, a quick read, and despite some narrative quibbles and eyeballs, I got to go back in time. That's worth something.
I haven't picked up Book 2 yet, but I will just add that Rob and Mr. Schmidt are still on my suspicion list, and we haven't gotten a good answer to the appropriate question of does Logan love Cara because he has to or because he would have anyway, so I'm hoping that's explored a bit more.
I have read this series and giving my honest review New author. Wow fantastic all three books. You follow them , exciting, laugh or two, twists and boy I did not see that coming I was wrong. Not spoiling. You have to read these books , I enjoyed them all from beginning to the very last book. I hope you enjoy them too .
This really is a good book. I like how it moves right along and has made the characters real. What I don't like is that it's not a stand alone book. Even in a series, books can stand alone as one among others. These are the reasons why I will rate it as a 8.
I loved reading this. Hopefully no spoilers but I didn’t not see this turning out the way it did, which just made it all the better & I’m so looking forward to reading the next book.
I enjoyed this book very much. A young lady knows she is a Phoenix, but tried putting her final rebirth off, because of her boyfriend who is human, and love each other! Throw in a Phoenix hunter who kills them when he finds them. The finish is very good!
This is one of my favorite books of 2016 so far. There are so many things I love about this book. I love the concept of it. The Phoenix concept is one that I haven't read yet, so I enjoyed it. The book started off with Jeremy, Cara's brother, being reborn, which is part of being a Phoenix. The author didn't give a lot of backstory as far as Phoenixes and the story of Cara and her family. Rather, the reader finds out this information as the story unfolds, which I thought was cool. A YA supernatural book, using a fresh concept.....we're off to a good start. Cara is having a hard time dealing with her brother's rebirth, and also her upcoming rebirth. Her brother doesn't remember her and she's upset about that and also dreading going through that herself. When she's trying to find some clarity in it all, she meets the new guy, Logan. To make matters worse, she imprints on him.
I know........imprinting. Weird concept. I almost DIDN'T like it, but then I realized how crucial it was, and how it was a driving point in the story, so I quickly warmed to it. As if all of that isn't bad enough, there is a Phoenix hunter on the prowl. Phoenixes, especially older ones, are typically skilled at hiding their abilities and traits. However, there are several risks involved with Jeremy being newly reborn and Cara on the brink of rebirth. Not to mention, the imprint is making Cara's emotions more heightened than they normally are. There isn't too much more I can say without giving away spoilers :)
I love the relationships in this book.....Cara and her family, Cara and her friends, the Phoenixes, Cara and Logan. Also, can we talk about how beautiful the cover is? And it gives you a great mental image of Cara while you're reading. Also, I felt like the author did a fantastic job of concealing the identity of the Hunter. It was a surprise, although I did manage to figure it out JUST before it was revealed. And of course, the lovely Kelly Hashaway ends the book in a magnificent cliffhanger that you kind of see coming....but it still hits you in the feels anyway.
I am giving Into the Fire five stars, and I cannot WAIT to read the rest of this series!
**I was provided with an ARC of Into the Fire in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and thoughts in this review are my own
Ok, so let me start with a confession... I love phoenixes. Seriously, I love everything about them from the symbolism to the mythology to the imagery. So when I heard that Kelly Hashway was writing a series about them, I am not too proud to say that I did a happy dance in front of my computer screen. And then I got a copy of the book and did another jubilant jig.
However in the midst of my celebrating, I had a horrible thought... what if it isn't as good as I think it is going to be? We've experienced that book that we have anxiously waited for, gotten our hands on, and been sorely disappointed by, and never want to relive that experience. So when I was about to crack open the first book in a series about my absolute favorite mythical character, I got nervous and procrastinated... and procrastinated... and said look how pretty the cover is. Until finally, I opened the book with only one eye open, checking to see if it could possibly live up to my dreams.
I read the first chapter with only one eye, but then the other eye slowly but surely joined the party. From there, it was difficult to put the book down to accomplish mundane tasks such as work, volunteering, and other household chores. The imagery not only fulfilled my every expectation, but left me in awe as well.
With some YA novels, you have to wade through the overwhelming amount of teen angst, but let me tell you... there is no wading through Into the Fire! It is a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. Yes, the main characters are teenagers, but they have some maturity and common sense about them which makes following their story not only enjoyable, but addictive!
So it is with great enthusiasm and verve that I suggest picking up a copy of Into the Fire, and allow me to also give you a piece of advice to go along with that suggestion - go ahead and pre-order the second book, Out of the Ashes, which will be released on March 22nd. By the time you finish it, you will be begging for the second book so you can see what happens next.
