The “kick-ass blonde vampire-therapist” (ROSEMARY LAUREY) from a “fascinating new alternate reality” (ROBIN OWENS, AUTHOR OF HEART DANCE) returns.
From the author of Key to Conflict.
In northern Russia after a devastating earthquake, paramortal psychologist and Marine Special Forces operative Gillian Key helps break up a ring of child traffickers preying on newly orphaned children. But away from Count Aleksei Rachlav, the irresistible vampire she left behind, Gillian is vulnerable to the Dark Prince himself—Dracula—who would like nothing more than to use her as a pawn in his escalating war with Rachlav.
This is the second in Talia Gryphon's urban fantasy "Key" series. Gillian Key is a psychologist to the Paranormal Species. She's also a Marine Special Forces Paranormal Unit Captain. She's also the girlfriend of a budding Master Vampire.
In this installment of the series, Ms. Gryphon furthers the story begun in her first book, "Key to Conflict". I would suggest reading it prior to reading this one, or you will become confused when previous characters make their appearance.
Gillian is an empathic human who is working with other paranormal communities trying to forge an alliance against the Dark Prince, Dracula. She has another run-in Dracula's chief minion, Jack the Ripper while trying to solve a series of murders.
While I did enjoy reading more about Gillian and her cronies, I did feel that the first book read a little smoother than this one. I found myself wondering if her publisher's pushed her to complete this one on the heels of the success of her first book. Having said that, I will still be looking to pick up book three when it's released.
I had read quite a few reviews of this book before I read it. I bought it ages ago and hadn't read it yet. I thoroughly enjoyed the 1st installment - Key to Conflict and was really looking forward to this one. Too many books in my "To be read" pile kept this one on the back burner for a while. It was with a certain degree of trepidation that I started this book, since I had read so many one star reviews of it. It's true, the beginning of the book took us through a series of vignettes along the journey of Gillian and her team getting back to Romania and the main story arc of her and Aleksei's relationship simmered in the background, but the vignettes were not that annoying and I liked Aleksei simmering in the background. I'm glad that the story eventually got back to the main crux of what it was all about - the war between Dracula and the rest of the paramortals, however, it did take a long time - about 3/4 of the book. I enjoy the relationship between Gillian and Aleksei, though her commitment phobia does grate at you over time. I thought book 1 was great. This one is okay. Hopefully, book 3 improves because I also have that lined up to read.
Toda a gente a adora, e passam a série toda a elogiá-la e a explicar o quão espetacular ela é. A história é... a Key a ir aqui e ali e
a) Ser atacada b) Ser raptada c) Ter sexo com alguém d) Ameaçar alguém
Basicamente é isso.
Eu considero esta série um dos meus prazeres secretos porque me faz acreditar que se alguém que escreve tão mal consegue ser publicado? Eu também consigo.
This was an okay read. I really like the characters of this series, but I find that the author really does not do a very good job of moving the story along. The events in the story have no transition. One minute we are fighting goblins and the next we are in the middle of a treaty signing. One minute we are rescuing children in Russia and the next we are fighting Jack the Ripper. Lots of action but really does not have any transition between events. Almost like the author is trying to cram way too much into the short 250 pages of book.
That being said I will read the next in the series, because I do like the characters and the basic storyline. There is a lot of action and just enough heated romance to keep me reading.
I really liked the first book in this series so I'd had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately it was pretty awful.
Sections of the book seemed cobbled together without any connecting plotline...interesting characters randomly disappeared never to return, and the writing style reminded me of a SciFi Channel Original Movie screenplay (you know how awful those are if you've seen one).
All-in-all, I was extrememely disappointed in "Key to Conspiracy".
Second book in the series and as good as the first. Enjoying watching the character development and how urban legend is so seemlessly entwined in the lives of these characters. Totally in love with this world.
This got me to the edge of my bed. I couldn't put it down and in classes it was hard for me to do that. The problem is getting larger and slowly solved. But what would happen to Dracula's army?
