Great book, easy words for children learning to read. Like the fact that while it uses phonics there are also "patterns" for the words eg Goose and Loose so is suited to pattern recognition methods of learning to read as well.

Have bought the whole series as daughter loves these. While the words are simple there's still enough of a story/action to keep her interested (just) while too many early reading books are three word sentences, one sentence per page and only a few pages per book.

This set of books is top of the learn to read books we've come across so far.

Shark in the Park is like Chicken Little, only it's Chicken a Little Extra Crispy! A puppy barks to all his animal friends, warning that a shark is in the park swimming in the park rec pool. One friend, a penguin with a dayglo orange toupee selling balloons is scratching his head in wonder at what kinda shark would have a baby with little paws overly excitable about Mr Jaws in a rec pool for no cause! So all the animal buds go to see.... Only it's Jake the neighborhood snake with a shark lifebouy. A RUBBER SHARK BUOY? OH BOY! I gave the ending away cos, well, in case you never get to read it yourself. Just read it to kids, WITHOUT doing what I did with the ending!

These Usborne phonics readers are bright and attractive with a fun flip out pages. This book is all about the "ark" sound. A fun story. Reminds me of Chicken Little, but this time Pup has seen a "shark in the park" and sets out to warn everyone. We again meet many of the characters we have discovered in previous books.

The back of the book give a vocabulary list and notes the words that do not follow the phonics rules. An interesting aside is that all these books have a tiny yellow duck hidden on every page.)

Part of the Phonics Readers series to support synthetic phonics learning.

A fun story with flaps to make it interactive for the reader. Lots of practice for "ark" words (park, shark, barks, spark). I like the way it built up the menacing air of a shark with descriptive words about its appearance. It was also nice to see the other characters in the Phonics Readers series in this book.

An extra bonus is the yellow duck hidden on every page which provided an opportunity to reinforce positional language with my little one.

4 stars.

Fun and quick read for bedtime with good rhyming. If I have to pick a book for bedtime these are more fun for me to read to my daughter because of the rhyming. Though this isn't one of my favorite phonics books because the rhyming and reading doesn't seem to flow like I prefer.

A cute phonics focused book for early readers. A puppy sees a shark into he park and tells all of the other animals. When they finally see the shark they are in for a surprise! This was cute and my kids loved seeing who the shark was.

Perfect for children who are just starting to read and engaging with fold out pages. Bit dangerous for Big Pig to be lighting a fire though, especially without supervision! :)

Phonics books aren't supposed to be exactly titillating, but this was on another level of abysmal mediocrity. Pass.

Usborne Phonics products are specially designed to help children learn how to read. They incorporate fun and learning. Children learn so much when they are young and their brain is forming so quickly. By incorporating reading into the things that they learn early on, they are more likely to succeed. A repetitive but quirky story with colorful illustrations and pop-out pages that help make this an engaging read.

Reading Level: 1st grade

The dog - I don't know his name - he thinks he sees a park - a shark, I mean. But it's actually Jake Snake's bathing suit. He tells the cat and Big Pig and Ted that there's a shark in the park.
