Anne Geddes, MNZM, is an Australian-born photographer, currently living and working in New York. She is best known for her baby photographies and photographies on motherhood.
I just read this for the first time despite having owned it for many years (I think it was a gift ...). I've always thought Anne Geddes' photography was adorable, and yet as I flipped through this book I found myself thinking ... well, this is kinda weird, that people's babies are in this book preserved for all sorts of people around the world to look at, whenever, wherever!
Anyway, I'm not really into Christmas or Christmas carols, or babies for that matter. :P But it was cute!
This is a truly beautiful book that I have had since childhood. The babies are all dressed up as the items/animals/plants from the song. The song is obviously a classic and a personal favourite of mine. At the back of the book there is even very simple sheet music that you can play as well on any instrument that incorporates the treble clef. I normally play this on the piano but I'm sure it would sound great on other instruments too. Such a lovely book!
This book was a gift or I would not have it. I love babies (the chubby Anne Geddes variety and all the rest) and I even sort of like the Twelve Days of Christmas ditty, especially if you start with the 12th day and finish it without all the repetition.
This darling book was a gift for my oldest daughter on one of her early Christmases, and it has been a holiday family favorite ever since. I still love to look at the cute babies Geddes has posed to go with the various gifts in this traditional Christmas carol.
My son said while we were reading this book, "These babies are CUTE!" He seemed to really like it.
The thing I didn't like about this book is that ALL the kids appeared to be white. No Asian or Black babies at all. Heck, I know Anne Geddes lives in New Zealand, but they can't all be white down there, can they?
My mother is a very big fan of Anne Geddes books, and she is my mother's favourite photographer. I find the photos very intriguing but for the most part this reminds me of reading with my mom as a kid, it was something we did together during the holiday season.
This book is not what I expected. Instead it is just the words to the song and typical Anne Geddes pictures. However, the pictures are so much alike it almost seems mundane.
