Powerhouse Team Pairs Up for Second Novel

Lillian Porter has always wanted to fulfill her mother's dream of going west, so when she hears about a nanny position in Angels Camp, California, she defies her grandfather and takes a chance on a new future. But she quickly wonders if she made the right choice. There are rumors in town that her new employer, Woodward Colton, caused the death of his wife. This accusation doesn't match the man Lillian comes to know--and Mrs. Goodman, Woody's long-time housekeeper, is decisively on Woody's side--but many in town stay far away from Lillian because of her association with the Colton family.

Lillian's six-year-old charge, Jimmy, was there when his mother died, and he hasn't spoken a word since. Gently, Lillian tries to coax him out of his shell, hoping he'll one day feel safe enough to tell her the truth about what happened. But the Colton olive farm is no longer a safe place. Lillian encounters suspicious characters on their land and mysterious damage done to the farm. Will Mrs. Goodman and Jimmy be able to speak what they know in time to save Lillian from tragedy?

A historical suspense with a strong Western flair. I particularly enjoy books by this pair of authors and found a lot to like in Lillian and Woody’s story. Jimmy and Harry were great additions and really made the story sparkle. Well told story with a mystery for the characters to solve.

I received this book from Bethan House in exchange for an honest review. I found this was a pretty great read for me. When I read Christian fiction I find most of it to be pretty unbelievable with unrelatable characters and that is because they make the characters unbelievable so I tend to stick to those Christian fiction books that are more good vs. evil with a lot of action and excitement. Well I decided to check this one out and it did not steer me wrong this time.

Synopsis

The plot was what drew me to the book in the first place and I thought it was well thought out and captivating There were a mix of elements in this book that worked very well together, mystery, adventure, excitement, love and understanding. All of these elements made this book very compelling and heartwarming and sure to make you feel something. The writing style of these authors was very fluid and very easy to follow.

The characters were also very good, so well developed I felt like I could relate to several of them. There is a wide range of characters for the readers to get to know and love. There was a great mix of personalities among them all as well. I did not find them to be too forgiving or too perfect like most have felt in other Christian fiction that I have read and that was a breath of fresh air for me.

This story was emotional from the opening scene. Just my type of tale! Needless to say (but I will anyway), I was hooked from the jump because of that.

Jimmy was such an intriguing character. I adored that he gave us a child’s POV to enjoy. That was quite fun! His fear and grief were so palpable, and I felt for him at every turn.

Woodward Colton was a great character. His love for his son and grief for his deceased wife gripped my heart with an iron fist. The plot around him was so fascinating! It isn’t every day I read a story featuring as a lead a man falsely accused of committing a heinous crime, so this definitely intrigued me.

It was a nanny story too! Y’all, I adore a good nanny story, and this one definitely qualified. Miss Lillian was such a charmer. She was delightful and witty and smart. Just the sort of lady that should have her own story, so I’m glad Mrs. Peterson and Mrs. Woodhouse chose to tell Miss Lillian’s.

The plot was amazing. It included a man accused of killing his wife, a child threatened into silence, and a nanny disowned by her wealthy relative. What wasn’t to absolutely love about this book?! Oh, and did I mention that it took place at Yosemite National Park? A good national park story is always fun for me to read, and especially so when the setting is so beautifully expressed as to almost become a character all its own.

Content: alcohol, prostitution (spoken of), rape (spoken of), suicide (mentioned)

This is the second collaboration of the Peterson and Woodhouse duo, and it is even better than the first. I am not sure if Tracie Peterson normally writes suspense novels, but Kimberly Woodhouse does..... and does very well. Thus, I knew this would be a good read; but it surpassed my expectations.

The book is set in the late 1890's, which is not the normal setting for the suspense novels that I typically read, but it works fine for the story. The story revolves around Lillian Porter who is a nanny for a seven year old boy who has not spoken since seeing a murder. His dad is the suspect, though not found guilty; is still shunned by the church and townspeople.

I loved the book. It has an excellent plot, a lot of mystery and suspense, very likable characters, and a great ending. I may sound sappy for saying this, especially since I am a guy; but I am a sucker for a story that revolves around a little kid..... so that was a big plus for me. This writing duo created the perfect kid to be at the center of this suspense novel, and he truly made the book; though there are a lot of likable characters in these pages.

In addition to the suspense and drama of the book, the topics of judging and gossiping are dealt with as part of the plot; along with forgiveness.

Kudos to the authors for the inclusion of Harry, a very likable and unusual character that you'll have to read the book to find out more about.

I use tags on my blog post for book reviews, and one I use is "read-in-one-sitting-book"; which I ascribe to a book that is so good that I can't put it down, and typically read it in one sitting.....excepting bathroom and food and drink breaks..... and this book was one such book. Great job ladies on a book that personifies what Christian fiction should be, and what Christian suspense should be. I highly recommend.

Lillian Porter longs to fulfill her mother's dream of going west. When she learns of a nanny position in Angels Camp, California, she jumps at the chance to go. Yet upon her arrival, Lillian learns that there are rumors flying around town about her employer, Woodward Colton, a local olive farmer. According to the gossip, he murdered his wife. Lillian tries not to listen to the rumors, especially after meeting Woody's son, her new charge. Jimmy hasn't spoken since the day he witnessed his mother's murder. As Lillian becomes a part of this family, she sees how much both father and son are hurting. Can she help draw them both out? And when it becomes clear that danger is still threatening the Colton family, will Woody be able to keep Lillian safe like he couldn't with his wife?

This book started off a little slow for me. But as the story unraveled, I was captivated. I've read a lot of Tracie Peterson's books in the past, but I think that this was my first Kimberley Woodhouse book.

The characters were complex. Way more than I expected. Woody's a troubled man who knows he is innocent but is seen as guilty in the eyes of the town. Jimmy stole my heart. The child who hasn't spoken since his mother's death has a lot to say. I loved how Lillian worked with him and figured out a way to get him to respond. Then there's Harry. The simple-minded gentle giant who has a heart of gold.

I've got to admit, that I learned a lot about olive growing in this book. And that some olives are better for olive oil and others for the table. I never imagined the process that it takes to grow & process olives.

I received this book for free from Bethany House for the purpose of reviewing. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

Beyond the Silence was a very compelling story full of sadness, danger, rumors, gossip, hope, and romance. I couldn’t help but read this one quickly as I continually wanted to know what was happening next.

The authors did a great job of expressing the emotions that the characters were feeling in a very realistic way. The attraction between Lillian and Woody was also very well written. I felt sorry for Jimmy and all of the trauma he had seen, as well as the fear he felt. Of course, I was a bit frustrated that he kept silent for so long, but it completely made sense.

This story was enjoyable from start to finish and the action began immediately on page one!

Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse have successfully teamed up to pen an intriguing, heartwarming read about a young woman who travels to the lush, rolling hills of California seeking to fulfill her dreams and finds much more than she bargains for—a chance at love and life threatening danger stalking her every move.

Lillian Porter's dream of going west has finally come to fruition as she defies her grandfather and accepts the position of a nanny in Angels Camp, California. But as dark and terrible rumors swirl around her from the local townsfolk, she wonders if she has made the right move. Her 7-year-old charge, Jimmy, has not spoken in over a year and there are sinister accusations made concerning Jimmy's father—her handsome, enigmatic employer—Woodward Colton. The Colton olive farm holds many a malevolent secret as Lillian encounters strange happenings taking place, but she is hopelessly drawn to Woodward in spite of the vicious rumors. She loves Jimmy as her own and her greatest desire is to help the traumatized lad to talk again. However, her efforts seem futile as Jimmy and her grandfather both refuse to speak—will they ever move beyond the silence to a bright future?

I. simply. fell. in. love. with each of the characters in this amazing story minus one of the most evil, menacing villains I have ever encountered. (gasp!) Poor, grief-stricken little Jimmy stole my heart from the very get go, Lillian is tough as nails and gentle as a lamb, Mrs. Goodman, the grandma-like housekeeper, is a "dearie" with a heart of gold, and then there is Harry. I can't wait for you to meet Harry—pure hearted, innocent Harry with a simplistic child's mind in a man's body. I wanted to hug him more than once and I'm sure you will, too. :) There are so many loose ends that get tied up in a nice little bow and make for a satisfying conclusion that will leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy. Kudos to Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse for staying true to the genre, Christian fiction. Isn't a permeating theme of God's love, healing, and miraculous power the reason we read Christian fiction to start with? Highly recommended!

I enjoy a good historical. And I love a good mystery. Beyond the Silence gives readers the best of both with a dose of added romance. Lillian wants to do something that matters, and when she accepts a job as a nanny, her grandfather disowns her. There's no coming back. When her train finally takes her all the way to California, she is confronted with information that her new employer may not be who he seems. All she knows for sure is that there is a little boy who desperately needs her and she feels called to help him.
[Tweet "Beyond the Silence is perfect read for historical romantic mystery lovers. #amreading"]
Woodward Colton has been accused of terrible things, but the judge cleared him. Too bad the people in his town won't do the same. He's broken from tragedy and wondering if he can ever clear his name. Lillian brings comfort and disruption to his home. Then strange things begin happening again and he wonders if he can protect those around him again.Beyond the Silence

A strength in Beyond the Silence is the way the characters and setting jumped into my mind fully formed. The descriptions centered me in the locale and I was there with Lillian. Each character also had depth: they weren't mere cutouts put on the scene to fill space. Instead, they had pain and joy, they were sympathetic (except the villain) and real. There are subplots that added dimensions to the story as well. There also were the mysterious elements that kept the pages turning -- I wouldn't call the first half suspenseful, but the pace did build.

All in all Beyond the Silence is a really enjoyable read, and I recommend it for those who love a historical set in the late 1800s and who appreciate a romance with a good mystery/suspense thread.

My Review:

Beyond the Silence by Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse I believe is the forst book in a new series, but I'm not completely sure. Beyond the Silence is a Historical novel centered around the themes of love, healing, and redemption. But being a Western it also has that action as well. The actual writing was fine, but sometimes the writing felt a little disjointed in my opinion. The overall result is a 4 star novel that I would recommend, but isn't one I'll read again.

This story opens on such a sad note with a heinous crime of murder in front of a six year old, who becomes so traumatized that he never talks again. Who would do such an evil thing, and then to make things worse, if possible, Jimmy’s dad Woody is accused of killing his wife.
Enter Lillian Porter whom as the book opens has made a decision that is about to affect every ones life, she is going to go west and take a job as a nanny. Now Lillian has grown up sheltered and with a silver spoon type of life, and now she is defying her Grandfather, who in the end disowns her. She was orphaned as a baby and raised by her wealthy grandparents, but now wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
We are about to experience life in Angels Camp California, and are surprised how the man they know and loved is now treated. There is some violence and tears, and chuckles and laughs, a bit of romance, and as we follow this story we move in with these characters and live with them.
I enjoyed this book, and see how we can make rash decisions, and how they effect everyone, not just us. I loved particularly the character of Henry, simple-minded gentle giant; he was a joy in this book. Enjoy this captivating story about a real town in the old west.

My Review:
Lillian Porter noticed a huge change in her loving grandfather when he lost his wife, now he wants nothing more than to hold her prisoner in his fancy mansion. Lillian has had enough and wishes to pursue her mother’s dreams in going west, and also pursuing hers in getting out of that mansion. She accepts a job as a nanny to a boy who no longer speaks due to the death of his mother, in Angels Camp, California. Leaving behind the life she has always known, she is thrown into a whole new world.

Woody Colton has found it hard to move on from his wife’s death, but of course it doesn’t help that the entire town blames him for her death. Or that his son, Jimmy is hurting and refuses to speak, leaving Woody with no way of helping him. Woody doesn’t know what to do, so he puts out an advertisement for a nanny for his son. Soon a lovely lady named Lillian Porter, is on a train from Indianapolis.

Lillian finds California to be beyond beautiful, but the people there are terribly harsh to her new boss, Mr. Colton. Cant they see he’s hurting? Or that he is honestly a good man? When the housekeeper of the Colton household is attack everyone begins to blame Woody. With God’s help, Lillian hopes she can set everyone straight, and help Woody and Jimmy heal.

Beyond The Silence is a wonderful novel about love and healing. I really enjoyed this book and found it to be a wonderful read. I love Tracie Peterson’s books and now I have found that I enjoy Kimberly Woodhouse’s just as much. I hope to read many more wonderful books from these authors.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author.

This story opened with a bang. From the first paragraph, it was hard to put down. I have found out, that when these two authors write a story together, that is how their books will be. The story takes you through so many places and lets you see it from several different eyes, it keeps you turning the pages.

Right off the bat, I felt so bad for Jimmy Colton, the little boy in the story. You can't blame him for not talking after enduring what he has. His family is strong, I will say. Lillian I thought was a good character. She had a good life growing up, but later dealt with abuse. Instead of living with it, she drew up her strength and left it, despite the emotions she felt. I liked her fortitude. Woody Colton, goodness, if there was ever a man with the patients of Job, he had it. An innocent man haunted with past that he didn't do. It would be enough to make a person run, but he doesn't.

I enjoyed this story a lot. I love how they were able to capture the mystery into a historical fiction story. It gave the genre a fresh feel. I love when authors can do that, and Tracie and Kimberly did that superbly with this book! The characters were well structured and the background setting made the elements pop and enhanced the story.

Lillian Porter accepted a job as a nanny to a boy who has mutism and no longer speaks due to the murder of his mother, in Angels Camp in California. She decided to leave her home with her grandfather in hopes of pursuing a new life as she no longer wants to be a prisoner in her own home. Her grandfather disowns her after this "hasty" decision, but the staff still very much loves her and keeps connected with her as she moves on with her new life.

Woody Colton, the father of little Jimmy, is completely grieving the loss of his wife. The entire town blames him for his wives murder as the killer was not found. His son, Jimmy will not talk after the trauma and Woody does not know how to help him.

This story is more that just Lillian moving in with Woody to nanny and take care of Jimmy, but a story of forgiveness and the deep wounds that gossip can have on someone's life. It is a beautiful story of redemption, healing and the story of how God can show up to help any difficult situation.

"Beyond the Silence" is a remarkable novel about love, forgiveness, and healing. I loved this book and never had ready a book by Tracie Peterson. I read it in one sitting because I could not put it down. Having never read anything by Kimberly Woodhouse, I enjoyed her sense of style of writing as well. I hope to read many more books by both of these authors. I also enjoyed the character Harry and cannot wait for you to meet him!

Thank you to Bethany House for providing me a copy through Litefuse. I give this book five stars!

I have no idea what the title brings to your mind as you read it. I thought it might be something beyond the grave, but really was not expecting the level of suspense that the authors Tracie and Kimberley brought to this historical fiction novel. I truly disappeared into the story and was lost in it for the two days it took me to read it! Many times as I read with bated breath to find out what would happen next I had to remind myself this IS a novel, it is fiction, and I am not in the middle of it, and neither are my friends! That lasted only until the next scene! Even my 89 year old mother loved it, and read it in short order. I loved Lillian, and I think it was because she was so patient and understanding with her young charge, Jimmy. She also did not believe all the rumors that she heard, and gave the family the benefit of the doubt as she tried to help them.

I absolutely love author Tracie Peterson. This time she has partnered with Kimberly Woodhouse to write a fantastic story about a young woman who leaves her home in search of a new life. It poses the question, how many women could actually leave everything behind and go into the unknown. Lillian decides to go out west and become a nanny. Everyone starts to think that her employer actually killed his wife. Is she the only one that believes her didn't do it? Is anyone going to help her? Is she falling in love with him? Will they have a future or will the murderer strike again? I give this book a 5/5. I was given this book for a review and these are my opinions.

First let me say, I have never been disappointed in any book that Tracie Peterson either wrote or co-wrote. This book was no exception. A young boy witnesses the brutal murder of his beautiful Momma. The murderer threatened him to "never say a word ". Jimmy took those words to heart and spoke not a word at all. That is until his father, Woody, hired a nanny. (Lillian) Lillian seemed to bring out the best in Jimmy. He gained weight...even began to laugh out loud, a sound that was music to his father's ears. As the story unfolds, mysteries are solved, romance is evident, and justice is served. 5*****

This is the second book I have read that is a collaberation between Tracie Peterson and Kimberley Woodhouse. Let's just say, I loved it. What an awesome story. It drew me in from the first line and wouldn't let go. It's one of those books where I have to shake myself back to reality when I am forced to put the book down.
This book is told from five different viewpoints. Lillian Porter, who has come out west to California against her grandfather's wishes to take a job as a nanny. Woodward Colton (or Woody) is the man who hired her to watch his son. He has been alone for a year, since his wife's murder. All alone except for his housekeeper, Mrs. Goodman, one of the only people in the area that believes he is innocent of his wife's murder. Jimmy Colton is Woody's mute son who hasn't spoken since he witnessed his mother being murdered. Darwin Longstreet is the villain in the story whom we meet quite early. And Harry is his brother who is slow yet full of innocence and love and loyalty.
There was a good amount of suspense in the story, even though we knew who the nefarious villain was. Faith played an important role in the story. Good reminders against gossip and listening to rumors, and reminders to show love.
And this was a story where someone was wrongfully accused, which I recently discovered is a trope that will grab my attention and not let because I need to see justice come about. It sure tugged on my heart to see the way Woody was being treated, and how that affected all in his family, even the newly arrived Lillian. Another part that touched my heart was how Harry was being treated.
I grew to love these main characters, except for Darwin who I loathed. Yes, loathed. I wasn't a huge fan of quite a few of the townsfolk because of their treatment of Woody.
I loved the twists in the story. There were some things that I anticipated, but quite a few that I did not. The authors brought everything together wonderfully, leaving no loose ends.
It's a wonderful story that I highly recommend.

This is a fine little story but there were some implausibilities that really got under my skin, hence the two star rating.

The whole idea that this small little town that gossips about everything and knows everyone’s business and are even really good friends with Woody, would turn on him, have no idea that his son hasn’t spoken since his mother was murdered, and have zero desire or impulses to think they should look for an actual murderer instead of the wonderful nice man who has been a really good friend.
I could see if Woody had been a recluse, or very cold, unfriendly, etc. But these people were good friends with him, knew his character, knew his relationship with his wife and child, and still believed a load of bunk.

I also find it implausible that in this small town people (and the sheriff) were not aware of who lived in Woody’s land before, the type of people they were, (Father & Darwin) and what really went down there. Especially a horrible psychotic brother like Darwin. Really? The town wouldn’t have been aware of a psycho kid like that and the fact that he had a mentally slow brother? And then when Rebecca gets murdered they wouldn’t have been like, “it could’ve been that psychotic kid who used to live on this very land and then the bank took their house away! No, let’s blame the super nice guy with great character who loved and adored his wife and child.
Then when everything comes to light let’s keep that horrible good for nothing sheriff in his capacity as sheriff since he has no desire to pursue justice and would rather persecute innocent people, yeah that’s the making of a good sheriff. It wasn’t just that he was a mean guy, he was horrible at his job.

Thank you Litfuse for this review book.
Rumors and gossip have destroyed more friendships, more careers, and more lives than I'd like to think. Fear and suspicion have destroyed even more. In the small town of Angels Camp, in the old west mining days in California, rumors, gossip, fear, and suspicion surround Woody Colton. In need of a nanny for his mute son, he advertises then invites Lillian Porter to join his household for little Jimmy. It's all on the up and up. The housekeeper is a motherly figure who helps create the family atmosphere for which Lillian is longing.

Interspersed among the chapters of growing happiness, we find chapters showing the desperation and depravity of the "bad guy" in the book. The sadness, hardness, anger, and even rage he embodies was hard for me to read about. Thankfully, it was short. Sometimes, even now, Christians live a life so filled with church friends and "good guys", we forget that there are truly people around us who have given themselves over to evil to one degree or another.

I liked this book because it pointed the reader to Jesus. Seeking God was a central theme. I really liked that, because it's interwoven in the story in a very natural way. The book had two authors, but it was written seamlessly. I couldn't tell when one or the other was writing.

It was clean. No bad language. No inappropriate behavior, if you know what I mean. I recommend it.

From the first page, Beyond the Silence kept me hooked. The Prologue sets the stage for the meaning of the “silence” of a dear little boy. Then we mix in a father who is self-condemning and full of guilt; and a nanny from Indiana who is determined to follow her dead parent’s dream of going west but if she does her grandfather never wants to see her again.

Tracie and Kimberley create a mixture of emotions from the first page and kept it up until the last page. You could see the characters grow not only personally but in their walk with God. Dissention, prejudice and gossip are overcome though it is difficult for all parties. But most of the characters (except the bad one) realize that prayer is the key and He does answer them but that doesn’t mean that bad things and bad people will not enter your life. Strong faith can pull you out of dire circumstances.

You can see that each character in the story has their own unique personality and Tracie and Kimberley have mixed that with an emotional story that kept me turning page after page to see what would happen next and how they and God would change the bad to good.

An excellent story that I highly recommend as this will touch the hearts of all inspirational readers.

Enjoy!

Beyond the Silence was a wonderful story that I really enjoyed. I loved the Colton family. Woody was such a good man who had to deal with nasty people and judgments when the town believes he murdered his wife. His poor sweet, innocent son is suffering the most since he witnessed the murder and has been mute ever since. I'm not giving anything away you find this out right away. I truly felt for this family and the hardship they were facing.

Lilian was wonderful addition to the family when she takes up a job as a nanny for Jimmy. She was a breath of fresh air. Lilian is a very smart and opinionated woman who has the best intentions. I loved how perfectly she fit into Woody and Jimmy's life and how much she came to care for them both. I also really loved Harry's character. He really pierced my heart with his level of kindness and pure innocence.

Beyond the Silence was a wonderful book. I loved the story so much and was surprised at how much I didn't want to put this book down. It was really great.

WOW! I expected to like this story...set in the West, good guys and bad guys, a love story. All things that I enjoy reading about. However, I was not expecting to have this story touch me personally. But it did. I identify with the little boy Jimmy. His mother was killed and Jimmy witnessed it. Jimmy was told that if he ever said a word to anyone about what happened, the evil man would come back and kill everyone else that Jimmy loves. So Jimmy decides to never speak. Jimmy feels that he is responsible for keeping the rest of his family safe or their death will be due to him. This is when this book hit me full in the face. I won’t tell you any more of the plot. This is a great story and very well written. To the authors: THANK YOU for giving this old women some clarity! Bless you both SO MUCH.

Wow what an amazing read!!!

It was so good the suspense, the story of Jimmy and what happened to his mum at the start I wanted to keep reading to find out more. The love story that bought a family together though at the start that seemed unlikely to happen especially as more details were revealed at the end. I loved the friendship of Harry and Jimmy it’s so beautiful. The way it wraps up at the end is amazing, this is one of those books I wish there was a series of so I could read more about the characters they are so lovable and Gods love shines throughout their lives and in their wider community later on too.

I’d recommend this book to anyone it’s my favourite read so far this year, I wish there was a 6th star to give it because it’s that amazing!!!

Great Book

I don't often write a review of a book I have just read.....but for me, this was such an exceptional book, I just wanted to express that !
There were so many different aspects of the story going on continuously. The story line had so many interesting characters, with each having their own twist to making the story interesting and exciting. I would think something was going to happen, and then unexpectedly it would go in a different, an even better direction! I have read a few other books from these two amazing authors.....and they were all enjoyable.......but this is definitely my favorite so far.

A solid 3.5-4 stars for this historical fiction. I've almost always enjoyed anything by Tracie Peterson, this might be the first thing I've read that she wrote with Kimberley Woodhouse. Lillian leaves her home in Indiana against her Grandfather's wishes to be a nanny to a little boy in California. Jimmy hasn't spoken since he saw his mother killed. People in town have accused Jimmy's father Woody of killing his wife but this doesn't quite make sense to Lillian once she meets the family. She comes to care for Jimmy, his father and the housekeeper a great deal while working with the boy and hoping they can find his mother's killer.

Olive farms and gold mines? Not things I read about super often but I sure did love this book.

The romance was adorable, bible themes strongly prominent and a heartwarming family plot. All I needed in a book.
The main character Lillian is a very strong Mary Poppins mixed with Disney princess mixed with Esther from the bible type of lady. She has strong morals and despite her flaws stands up for what is right. Seeing the faith growth in Woody and little Jimmy and Harry is always a scene I never get sick of. Yearning a lost one, is something multiple people struggle with and this book shows the right way to deal with it: God straight to God and be thankful for what he's given you.

A wonderful Christian novel. Yes, it is a love story but it so much more than that. In this book, we see both the evil and good of people. It is not all rose-colored, though. The evil does have its day. It is a book of love & acceptance of people different than we are. It is a story of having the courage to admit one's wrong and seek forgiveness no matter how hard that is. Although I suspected the ultimate outcome, there were enough detours to keep the reader very interested. Sad to see the book end.
