Clare expects to take it slow with her new life. Then she meets Logan Farrell, a Boston ER doctor in town to help his elderly grandmother settle into assisted living. I received a free copy of this book to read in exchange for my opinion.
I wanted to like this book, but it was just 'okay' to me. I loved the idea of the story featuring a librarian, but found the character to be rather annoying with her over-protective nature being focused on too much. The dialogue seems forced and awkward at times. Too much back history of characters mostly irrelevant to this story muddled the plot. Had the potential to be much better.

Claire is the new librarian in Knights Bridge. She's widowed with a son. Her husband died in a car crash, and she's overly cautious now. Logan, a busy Boston ER doctor, helps get his grandmother settled in an assisted living facility. Townspeople think he has not spent enough time with his grandmother and question whether it was her decision to move into the facility. The two meet when she delivers books for residents to the facility. They strike up a friendship that quickly becomes something more. There were places where the narrative seemed repetitive--especially when hearing thoughts. I enjoyed the overall story, but tighter editing could make it stronger. I listened to the audio book read by Susan Boyle (which I assume to be the Britain's Got Talent winner). She did a great job. (3.5 stars)

Can't wait to be done with the snow and still a snowstorm today (I think Mother Nature didn't get the memo we're in April ;p) but I was in the mood for a sweet Christmas story and this cute cover caught my attention a couple weeks ago.

It's been six weeks since Clare Morgan, a widow with a six-years-old son, settled in Knights Bridge and took the position of library director. As a part of the job, she also bring books to the seniors at the assisted-living facility. That's where she'll meet the grandson of a new resident, a Bostonian ER doctor.

"What had she just done ?
Nothing dramatic or insane, she told herself. She'd agreed to help decorate a house with an intense, good-looking, out-of-town ER doctor who wanted to please his grandmother. Any romantic implications were in her head-not that she was thinking along those lines, or, certainly, that he was."

Between the hero's take-charge personality and the heroine's tendency to worry about everything and their easy camaraderie, it felt like I was reading about every day life people. But a part was skipped between the moment they realized they're in love and the epilogue that's four months later, which left me with the feeling the romance was incomplete in some way. This book can be read as a standalone and you'll get a glimpse of previous characters and their stories. It was my first time reading this author and while I won't scurry to buy the rest of her bibliography, I intend to read her again.

Every time I pick up a Swift River Valley romance, it’s like visiting old friends. I just love going back to Knights Bridge and catching up with the residents. The books leave me all warm and fuzzy and A Knights Bridge Christmas is no expectation. Plus, Logan and Clare, cutest couple ever.

Here’s what’s going on: Clare and her six-year-old son Owen are relatively new to Knights Bridge but the residents have accepted them as their own and are eager to look out for them. Clare’s the new librarian and Owen’s quickly making friends and adjusting to small town life.

Logan Farrell is used to his fast-paced life as Boston ER doctor but he’s in Knights Bridge to help his grandmother, Daisy, settle in at Rivendell, an assisted-living facility. When his grandmother asks him to decorate her empty house for Christmas, Logan can’t refuse and he soon enlists the help of the local librarian and her young son.

As the three of them get the Farrell house ready for Christmas, Logan finds himself growing closer to Clare and her son. And, while Clare is slightly hesitant due to how fast her relationship with Logan is progressing, she knows the attraction she’s feeling is something substantial.

A Knights Bridge Christmas is such a cute little Christmas romance with a slight nod to A Christmas Carol.

I really liked Clare and I could really identify with her. Six years ago, her husband died in a car accident and since then she’s become a bit of a worrywart, especially where her son is concerned. Every time Owen does something or goes with someone, Clare automatically worries about what might happen. When Logan shows up, he’s eager to help Clare put her mind at ease and it nice watching Clare allow a bit of adventure back into her and her son’s life.

Logan was really easy to like. He’s kind of unsettled. He has his life in Boston and he’s been fine with that until he arrives back in Knights Bridge. At the start, he’s not really welcomed with open arms and part of that has to do with his impatient attitude. And the Sloan brothers definitely give him a hard time until they discover he’s not as bad as he first seems. When he meets Clare and Owen, and they start to delve into his families past, he discovers he’s finding it harder to leave Knight Bridge.

Logan and Clare was such a cute couple with loads of chemistry. While it had an even feel to it, their relationship was quick to develop, yet it really worked for this book. Although keep in mind, this is a clean romance—there are a few kisses thrown in but the sex scenes happen off the pages.

There is always a secondary story woven into the Swift River Valley series and I truly loved how the story of the Farrell family and the Christmas candle.

This is the fifth book in the Swift River Valley Series. While it does work brilliantly as a standalone, this book takes place at the same time as Echo Lake does as well as Christmas at Carriage Hill.

As an added bonus, this book contains some delicious looking recipes that I will be trying in the near future.

Overall, this was another great addition to my favorite contemporary romance series. The characters were lovable, the plot steady and intriguing, and the book left with a smile on my face. Carla Neggers truly brings small-town charm to life and adds in a splash of something special.

If you only read one Christmas romance, make it A Knights Bridge Christmas.

It is (nearly) halfway to Christmas!! So, time for my annual tradition of cheesy Christmas romance in July (Yes, I know it is June, but patience is not one of my virtues). I selected this book primarily because it was available on audio at my library and I have heard of Carla Neggers but have not read anything by her. Thought I would give her a whirl!

And, oh, it was painful.

It was painful for two reasons.

1) So this woman moves with her young son to a small town outside Boston to be the librarian. She is widowed and immediately meets this older woman's handsome and successful grandson. So far, so good. Exactly what I expect. BUT, the first time lead man and woman meet (I have already forgotten their names) the know-it-all-childless-man tells the woman HOW SHE SHOULD RAISE HER SON! He is all up in her business mansplaining the shit out of parenthood, and if it would have been me I would have shut that down. But no, lead woman was all like, "oh, you are totally right because you have seen children from a distance your whole life, probably were a child once, and now are an ER doctor. You are right that I should let my child go ice skating for the first time ever with strangers and without my supervision and I should absolutely let him play in the street." Dude, this guy was all up in her business laying down jewels of wisdom. Shut the hell up.

2) The narrator seriously sounded like a member of Golden Girls. It was so off-putting to hear this young, full-of-life woman be voiced by a grandma. I didn't like it. It made the love interest less heart-warming and more kind of creepy and icky.

Sorry Carla Neggers, I think your lead female characters are a little too spineless and docile for me.

"A Knights Bridge Christmas" by Carla Neggers

My Thoughts....

If you like a sweet Christmas love story then this novel is for you. I liked how this author
was able to bring these two people together...Logan and Claire. Claire was a widow and new Librarian with a son Owen who had come to live in Knights Bridge. How will this all come about? Claire also did a program with the seniors at the retirement home....therefore meeting Daisy. Logan was a ER doctor who was from Boston had come to Knights Bridge, Massachusetts to help his grandmother [Daisy]get settled in the local assisted living facility and also get her home ready to sell. However, Daisy wanted her home decorated for the holidays one last time from putting her home up the for sale sign. Needing help with this decorating job ....Logan gets Claire's help and this sweet story will take off from here. Was Daisy up to some matchmaking needing Claire to help Logan with the decorating of her home? To find out you will have to pick up the good read to see how well this author will bring it out to the readers. I felt it was a sweet holiday story of how two people being brought together during this season in the quaint town. Would I recommend? YES!

I received a copy through NOR in exchange for an honest review.

Massachusetts town of Knights Bridge is a small town where everyone knows each other, cares for each other, and in some nice ways, the time seems to have stopped in town. The Christmas traditions are deep, and everyone is willing to help and put in the time and effort to make the whole town look festive in time.
As Logan and Clare starts to decorate the grandmother Daisy's house, a slow simmering attraction, and interest, start to burn.
Even though in my mind they seem very similar, in Clare's mind they are totally opposite, and no good match at all. Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol is tight with the story. The ghosts keep visiting Logan, and the small town folks seem to have a preconceived notion about what kind of person, a city ER doctor is suppose to be, and not very positive one. I didn't connect that with Logan's personality, or how he was with people, but I guess that was a possibility in the future.
The characters didn't have very much depth to them, the dialog wasn't constantly smooth, and the story was proceeding jerky at times.
There are lots of food in the story, and the recipes for them are dotted amongst the chapters. I thought that was kind of cute, even though normally when that happens the recipes are at the end of the story, not a part of it.
Overall, a good Christmas story, celebrating the circle of life, mixed with history of Daisy and Tom, Logan's grandparents, sweet Christmas traditions, and picture perfect Christmas scenes.

This book was okay at best. I had high expectations because its about a librarian and bookish things, but even that was not enough to make this a recommendable read. It's about Claire and her son Owen and their move to Knight's Bridge. The prologue tells the story of Tom and Daisy. They met as young people and she fell in love with him when he asked her parents to light a candle at Christmas for his brother who died in the war.
Claire's husband was killed in a car accident when she was 7 months pregnant, so she is a single mother to her son Owen. They move to Knights Bridge and she meets and falls in love with Tom and Daisy's grandson, Logan. The book is just them falling in love and Owen falling in love with the town. Logan and Claire are in charge of decorating Tom and Daisy's house because Tom is dead and Daisy is in a nursing home. Tom and Daisy first met and conversed over "A Christmas Carol" so that book and quotes from Dickens are woven throughout the story. Logan feels like he's being visited by ghosts (like in the story) because he's currently a fast-paced ER doctor in Boston, but he's falling in love with Claire in the slower-paced Knights Bridge.
I felt nothing for the characters and I didn't believe the love story. This book came and went and I will not be reading any others in the series and I probably won't remember this for long.

This is my first book by Carla Neggers and I was not impressed. The story itself had potential with the opposites attract and two people drawn to each other but living in separate worlds, but there didn't feel like there was any real conflict. The draw to city life was never overpowered his time in Knights Bridge. There were hints that the relationship wouldn't work, but that was just Clare's overthinking every little thing. It was all very basic with no real drama to get things exciting. I never had any true doubt that things wouldn't find a way to work out.
Another complaint about the novel was the awkwardness of the dialogue. If the language wasn't cheesy, it was a bit stilted and unnatural.
On a side note, is A Christmas Carol the only cultural reference out there for writing a Christmas story? Maybe I'm just overwhelmed from reading other romances that reference it, but it felt a little overdone in this novel and yet underdeveloped. The story was brought up multiple times throughout the novel, but I don't feel as if you really saw the character transformation you might expect if referring to that story. The connections weren't emphasized in the right way to the point that they became irritating.

Carla Neggers brings us back to Swift River Valley in A Knights Bridge Christmas. Filled with the joys (and difficulties) a New England winter can bring, along with pleasing references to A Christmas Carol, this quick romance lays on the charm.

This story actually took place during the same time period as previous installments Echo Lake and Christmas at Carriage Hill, so if you have followed along you’ll catch some of the references from the townspeople about their own current lovematches. But this can also be easily read as a standalone if you’re new to the series.

Like with a lot of the previous Swift River Valley books, history plays a big part in Clare and Logan’s journey. Read More

Not only was it boring, but it was also extremely annoying. HOW MANY TIMES ARE YOU GOING TO REPEAT THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER? We get it this character had a secret love affair and secret baby, this dude is a famous NHL player and a billionaire, these characters had marital issues. YESSSS I get it stop repeating it everytime you mention their names!

Very boring, forgettable characters, and glad its over.

I have had A Knights Bridge Christmas on my To Be Read shelf for years, always meaning to read it at Christmas because I have been drawn to the quotes at the beginning of each chapter from A Christmas Carol. I finally decided to read it as a Christmas-in-July-book and was not disappointed!

I could relate to the thirty-two year old widowed mother of a six year old son who moved to town to be the new library director. She deals with her anxiety problem, enjoys taking books to the town's assisted living quarters and meets an ER doctor who helps his grandmother get settled.

The story has almost all of the Christmas-y vibes I look for in a story: nostalgic references to the past--in this case, the 1940s, the Grinch, Charlie Brown's Christmas tree, and A Christmas Carol complete with ghosts! I also enjoy the images of lots of hot chocolate, Christmas cookie baking, festive decorating, beautiful snow imagery, and books.

This is #5 in the series, but I read it as a stand alone. Copyright 2015.

This isn't a bad story, just ho hum.

Hero is a busy ER Dr in Boston. Heroine is a librarian, widowed single mother.
Hero's grandma moved herself into assisted living & he's trying to help her out. His dad & sister are apparently too wrapped up in themselves.

There's a lot of characters from the other books that appear & judge the hero for having a job in Boston. He should be there more often for his grandma, even though he's the only member of his family trying.

There is Christmas in this story. The romance is a little rushed, but the story moves along. Not a whole lot of angsty drama, but a little would have made for a more interesting story!

Also, a bonus short story about two side characters.

Two and a half stars, really. Rated the one before 3 stars, so this one needs to be 2 to round it out.

The reader will put you to sleep. She put me to sleep three times. A friend heard a tiny bit of this recording and said her review would be "wait for the movie." Her timing is off. Her accents come and go. And, the accents are completely wrong, which I know because I lived close to where this book is set.

This small town is full of people who fall in love quickly, deeply, forever, and have no problems with their relationships. One character even said she loved the fights during the first year of marriage.

Still, if you're in the mood for a simple, easy romance, this might be the thing.

Borrowed through overdrive.

I didn't much care for this book. Seems pretty far fetched that so many people in this small town, who don't know this woman at all, would have the opinion that she is an overprotective mother because of the legitimate concerns she has about letting her 6 yr old son do certain things. Especially Logan...a man she has known for only a few hours, when he first makes this observation to her. In fact, the entire plot of this book is implausible. Why are any current Romance authors still treating women as if they are fragile little beings that need men to take care of them? To "be in charge?" To tell them what to do? Seriously? I will not be reading anything else by this author.

I did make a copy of the Applesauce Spice Cake recipe though. The recipes are the best part of the book, LOL!
