Върлите върхове

Rate this book

* защо в планината можеш да си събереш морски сувенири;
* кой е кръстникът на Еверест;
* къде можеш да бъдеш на най-високия връх на Земята и да лежиш на златист плаж;
* как можеш да покориш височина от 4500 метра над морското равнище... возейки се на влак;
* каква е тайната на дълголетието на планинските жители.

'Does Geography grind you down?
Fed up with miserable maps, rotten rock piles and tongue-twisting terms?

Wave goodbye to boring geography lessons as you scale the heady heights of Freaky Peaks ...........

Gasp! ...at the jellyfish stranded at the top of the mountain.
Scream! ....when you bump into the legendary yeti.
Run for your life!...as an avalanche hurtles towards you.

And if that is not freaky enough for you....take a thrilling mountain tour from Everest to Kilimanjaro, read about the intrepid explorers who sang hymns to stay alive and follow a giant glacier as it carves out a ghastly groove down a mountainside.

It's earth shatteringly exciting!

Geography has never been so horrible!'

127 pages, split over 9 chapters:

Introduction
On top of the world
Moving mountains
Slippery slopes
Freaky nature
Peaks and people
Climb every mountain
Peak survival
Peak condition

Written with the typical humour of this series of books, in a variety of fonts, interspersed with numerous black and white illustrations/cartoons.

Freaky Peaks is a book in the Horrible Geography series. Very nice for kids. Humorously set out with drawings and easy ways to understand, it’s all about mountains, climbing them, surviving on them, etc.
4 stars for kids, 3 stars for me personally but only because I wish it had more. ... It’s a good length for its intended target market though

It was an interesting book with a lot of information about mountains. There were a lot of illustrations, funny illustrations, to back up the points they’re making or just to make the reading more interesting.

Mount Everest is the highest peak on Earth, but it isn't the tallest peak. One of the Hawaiian islands, a dormant volcano, is more than 1,100 meters taller than Everest. Britain is the lowest peak-country in the world. It's highest peak is only 1343 meters tall. A mountain might have 4 types of weather at one place in only an hour!

Geography can never be boring with Horrible Geography! I especially liked the part where they introduced the gear you need. Definitely a must-read!

One of the better book in the 'Horrible Geography' series; 'Freaky Peaks' is highly informative.
My only slight annoyance is that it consistently refers to Geography teachers as "she" and "her".
