The Yoga-CBT Workbook for Anxiety blends two highly effective anti-anxiety strategies—cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and Kundalini yoga—for an entirely new and powerful treatment. Written by the creators of yoga-cognitive behavioral therapy (Y-CBT), this book will help you address the physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety to find lasting relief for both body and mind. Millions of people suffer from anxiety—it can keep you trapped in the “worry cycle.” When you’re under stress, your thoughts are racing, and you find yourself repeating the same anxious patterns over and over again, it has a negative impact on your relationships, health, and overall well-being. So, how do you get past your anxiety to increase peace and relaxation in your life? Yoga-cognitive behavioral therapy (Y-CBT) can help. This book offers the first research-based model to combine the benefits of traditional psychological practice with the therapeutic benefits of Kundalini yoga—often referred to as the yoga of awareness. This combination will enable you to effectively address both problematic thought patterns and the physiologic outcomes of emotional distress simultaneously. With the proven-effective techniques provided in The Yoga-CBT Workbook for Anxiety , you’ll find peace for your anxious mind and a state of relaxation for your body. More than just being able to manage your anxiety and stress, you’ll be ready to transform your whole life for the better.
I really enjoyed reading this well-written, easy to understand and well-illustrated workbook that teaches cognitive behaviour therapy, meditation techniques as well as practising Kundalini Yoga, which is known as the yoga of awareness, and its goal is to help you achieve your highest potential. It is a six-week program that teaches the practitioner to shift their negative thought patterns to seek other possibilities in order to help deal with the many forms of anxiety people suffer from.
This book emphasises the "body-mind" connection as well as mindfulness which is used in psychotherapy today to reach a quiet nonjudgmental state of mind in order to calmly observe unwanted thoughts.
I learned a lot from this book and I believe (if applied) this book could enrich people's lives who suffer from anxiety. I highly recommend this book.
The Yoga-CBT Workbook for Anxiety by Julie Greiner-Ferris. I have never tried Yoga before but I do have allot of Anxiety. I have always heard Yoga is a good way to help with stress and anxiety so when I saw this book I knew I had to try it. I did find it easy to follow. I do see some benefits from doing this if for nothing else it slows me down and gives me some me time. So I think this would be a great book for others like me that are looking for ways to help with Anxiety. This book has about 176 pages, so it is a good size book.
As someone who suffers from Anxiety and many who of you will understand that it can take a toll not only one you mind but on your body. I found I would have chest pains shooting painful chest pains that sent me to the hospital at the age of 30 thinking I was having a heart attack only to find out nothing was wrong. Many times have attack I find I am so exhausted I can sleep for days with little to no energy. I found help in medication but it doesn't cure it. It does help control my body and mind. In the last three years I have been seeking out new ways to find help for my anxiety when I find medication can't control it. For those who have the patience of a toddler this book will help coming under 200 pages. It starts off with warm ups that work on a persons posture. As you more forward readers will work on exercise Self Compassion which many of is need we just don't want to admit it. The areas are clearly marked tell you steps 1-7 or more on how to control your body and mind.
This is a 6 week program which I hope will help me better control as well as teach my children how to better control the anxiety we each feel. Thank you to Netgalley for the advance copy

Looks a great book. I've never done yoga before, but have been known to suffer with anxiety and reading through this book it does have some helpful tips on how to use Yoga to help people suffering with anxiety disorders. The workbook is broken down into weeks and there are useful charts to fill in to help keep a track on your anxiety symptoms over the weeks. The chapters are short enough to not be boring and full of 'waffle', but with just the right amount of useful information. There are clear pictures and instructions for the yoga poses. Hopefully a very useful book!
This book has many great resources for low impact yoga (all poses are done sitting) meditations, and introspection exercises. As someone with anxiety and panic disorders, I learned a lot about retraining my brain and nervous system with thoughtful approaches.
This is a wonderful resource for any human. You don't have to have anxiety to benefit from the exercises and wise instruction offered in this book/handbook. The authors do a thorough and well written job of outlining the history of CBT and how it works with yoga, meditation, mindfulness and breathing techniques in addition to adding the CBT component of using a journal. This is a six week program using a weekly focus (How to Establish a Daily Practice, Working With Anxiety and Panic, Working with Worry, Finding Your Value, Strengthening Communication, Developing Radiance) with a guiding principle, a meditation practice, breathing exercises, and a daily practice log. The daily practice log and the written exercises are fantastic! If you are human you would enjoy this book. It's written for everyone. No experience needed.
Firstly I would love to say that a book is very useful. No matter the levels of anxiety, how minor, or how great, this one appears to be very helpful. Several exercises are quite similar to what a counselor at university would suggest to me. Having over ten years experience with yoga, I am very happy to finally marry Hatha yoga, from my own knowledge, with mindfulness and anxiety control, for the book. I would suggest this book to students, as I often see that they would give up halfway or become overwhelmed with the reality of doing the "grown-up" things.
There are lots of books out there giving you advice and help on anxiety, but this book is a real gem! It doesn't blind you with medical/scientific terms regarding anxiety and CBT, instead it gives you a concise and easy to understand introduction into the different types of anxiety and what CBT actually is and how introducing yoga, you can begin to heal the mind and the body, as anxiety does not just affect your headspace, it affects your body and your general health as all sufferers know. It's explained very well and if you are a sufferer, you sometimes don't have the energy or concentration to read an instructional book like this (even though you know it may help!) but this book kept my interest and followed on to give me a very useful plan of action. There was so much more to this book than I first thought, it is very detailed and like I've mentioned, it does keep its focus and I found it very easy to follow. You don't have to be super fit to practice the yoga, it is very gentle but oh so effective. I've collected quite a few books like this and most I've never finished or not really practised the techniques since the initial read. With this book, I feel I will use it regularly and dip into it often. I wholeheartedly recommend this book if you are an anxiety sufferer or just want to learn to relax better. An extremely useful book!
I received an advance ebook edition of this title via NetGalley. My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this opportunity.
As a psychology degree holder, anxiety sufferer, and yogi, this book felt meant for me. I thoroughly enjoyed each part of this book. The descriptions were detailed, concise, and easy to follow. The visual aids were very helpful as well, and would definitely be of help to anyone who has not studied yoga before. I appreciated too that the writers, while including relevant psychology research, did not overwhelm their readers with facts and statistics - they focused on the person and on healing. Each section was broken down very well into different kinds of anxiety, and each section flowed well from explanation to execution.
The only even slightly negative thing I experienced was that the title can be a bit misleading, as the "Yoga" part really only focuses on the most basic seated positions and breathing of yoga training - and as a yogi of 6 years, I was expecting downward-facing dog! But the content itself was wonderful.
This book is so wonderful because it balances old and new, Eastern and Western medicinal techniques to create a whole body experience and whole body healing. An excellent addition to the worlds of yoga and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy research.
Anxiety is a condition that affects almost everyone at some point. For many, having the condition can be debilitating. Decision-making, social interactions. focusing on tasks, physical pain, almost all aspects of living are affected. Yoga, meditation, and cognitive behavioral therapy are three modalities used to manage anxiety. This book combines all three in one practicum. How neat is that? This book has series of questions which are designed to have the reader get in touch with their mental and physical states. Exercises are given, step by step, to help the reader establish their yoga/mindfulness/cbt practice. It is quite thorough. The authors clearly state that this practice will not substitute for therapy for extreme anxiety cases. It is a good addition and training manual. I recommend it highly.
I decided to read through this before trying the exercises. I found it very easy to read and enlightening. Although some things were concepts I was familiar with from CBT others were new and very interesting. My difficulty with the exercises is how to follow them without having to keep stopping to read the instructions. An audio CD to accompany the book would have been really helpful.
Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC, provided by the author and/or the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
This book is a fantastic resource for yoga teachers and anxiety sufferers alike. It clearly defines each major facet of anxiety, identifies the likely triggers for each, lists the typical mental and physical reactions, and then sets out simple, concrete things anyone can do to combat these and calm the mind and body. Even if you've never tried yoga before, you CAN do these practices: simple movements and stretches, calming breathing techniques, and mindfulness exercises designed to halt the stress response and re-wire your brain's pathways and patterns for the long-term.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book courtesy of NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I have read many anxiety self-help books, many of which, were based on the Cognitive Behavior Theory. I practice yoga regularly. I’ve tried meditating but have not been very successful sitting still. I found this book very creative and useful bringing yoga and CBT together.
There were many helpful step by step exercises to follow. Photos helped clarify the yoga positions. This book was very well done. I would recommend it to anyone struggling with anxiety.

We all have loved ones or some of us ourselves may suffer from anxiety. Such a crippling emotion, yet many suffer in silence. This book was a good Do-it-yourself /self-help book for those who suffer with this unspoken condition. I think it was a well put together book, with easy follow through steps.
The Yoga-CBT Workbook for Anxiety is an excellent resource for anyone wanting to use yoga to improve coping with anxiety and stress. One thing I really appreciate about this workbook is that the yoga poses are perfect for beginners. I received an ARC from NetGalley.
This is a very nice book. Insightful, thoughtful, & really does deliver. As with all things of this nature, it works if you actually use it & do the exercises! It's not a magic cure all, but it helps.
