Sherman's Library Trilogy

Rate this book
The haunting is often the imagination of the haunted…or is it? For Charles Gottesman, old Mr. Sherman’s death sparks one of the wildest, weirdest adventures he’s ever had… Upon Mr. Sherman’s death, Charles learns the rich old gentleman gave away all his money, leaving only his Victorian mansion and the huge library in the house. His will clearly stipulates the new owner must keep the library intact. Of course, with Mr. Sherman being dead, how would he know or even care about the library? It isn’t until Charles buys the house and discovers someone has stolen items from the library that he understands the significance of keeping the library intact. Mr. Sherman’s letter to the new owner shares the secret of the library—every item in the library is haunted! But how can Charles ever imagine just how deadly the library keeper’s job is…or the blood bath that will follow if he fails to “protect and serve” according to Mr. Sherman’s will? Ron Ripley

Ron Ripley is a husband and father surviving in New England, a place which seems to be getting colder every day. He grew up across from a disturbingly large cemetery where he managed to scare himself every night before going to bed. Mostly because of the red lights that people put in front of the headstones. Those things are just plain creepy to a kid.

Ron enjoys writing horror, military history and driving through the small towns of New England with his family, collecting books and giving impromptu lectures on military history to his family, who enjoy ignoring him during those dreadful times.

Entertaining paranormal listening 🎶🔰

Another will written paranormal fantasy world 🌎 haunting horror ghost 👻 demon monster adventure thriller novel by Ron Ripley and Scare Street. Mr. Sherman has died and left the estate to Charles including the library with the war souvenirs which must not be removed. Dave and Mike break into the house and steal four duffel have of stuff from the library. Something weird happens before they leave the front door and two duffel bags are left in the house. Mike dies that night 🌙 because of a Zippo lighter. Dave dies a couple of days later. Charles finds the rest of the souvenirs at a flea market and return it to the library. The only thing missing is a bayonet. I would recommend this novel and author to 👍 readers of paranormal fantasy adventure mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 😀👒🏡👻

Ron Ripley and Scare Street plus various authors are favorites of mine. I have listened to a number of novellas, novels and series by them enjoying all of them. Happy reading and have fun 🌙😀

This was such an absorbing read. I love Ron Ripley and the Scare Street Team books; too scary by half, although this was a little milder in comparison.
The story is split into a trilogy with the first book "Sherman's Library" looking at Charles buying Mr Sherman's house and the theft of haunted artifacts from the library. The second book "An Endless Search" focuses on back story and trying to find the stolen items, while the last of the trilogy "Gathering The Cursed" has Charles and new friend Ellen recapturing the artifacts and dealing with the consequences of the evil spectres.
The author included four little mini stories as to how Mr Sherman came to collect the original haunted war pieces and it's a pity these weren't somehow woven into the main story. My only disappointment with the book was the rather abrupt ending and I found that the trilogy perhaps wasn't needed. It would have been far better to split one long novel into three parts as opposed to three novellas.

I have mixed feelings about this trilogy. my first venture into the world that is Ron Ripley was by no means disappointing. The trilogy is very easy to get into, the characters are instantly assimilated into the plot and the 'action' starts right from the beginning. I enjoyed the storyline but couldn't help feeling that if it had been expanded, there could have been so much more of a plot development regarding the artifacts and the happenings associated with them. This feeling was exacerbated after reading the bonus material at the end of the trilogy. If this had somehow been woven into the overall tale, things could have developed into a much darker plot. As it is, I was left on one hand, happy that I had discovered a great new writer but, on the other, disappointed that a storyline that was great from the off, had so much promise, but ultimately left me wanting more.

I thoroughly enjoyed Sherman's Collection. This is one of the best ghost stories I've come across in years. The audiobook edition was very well done.

Good read

I love this author. All of his books are really good if you want a good scare. I personally enjoy his series, I get invested in the characters. Most of his books are ghost related and who doesn't like a good ghost story?

This is one of Ron Ripleys' earlier works and after reading some of his more recent ones, you can tell he has evolved tremendously as a writer!! Still though, this book was well written and developed and I loved it.

The plot is fast paced and doesn't let up. When Mr. Sherman dies, his one stipulation in his will is that when his house is sold, nothing from the Library can be removed. The new owner has to agree to this before they can buy the house. Charles Gottesman doesn't see a problem with this so he eagerly buys the house. But before he can move in, items from the Library are stolen and it doesn't take long for Charles to realise how important Mr Shermans request was.

I think I see where the author got inspiration for his amazing Haunted Collection Series!! This is similar though not as expanded as the Haunted Collection Series. I loved finding out about the objects and what was haunting each. Also the buyer of the sword was creepy and I would love to have seen a bit more on him. As with all this authors work, he has created a creepy and spooky set of circumstances that the characters have to deal with, and I loved every bit of it ;) I listened to this in a little over a day because I needed to see what happened next.

In all, this is a well written and quick read. It has given me a hankering for re-reading the Haunted Collection Series!

Jake Urry is one of my favourite narrators and I always enjoy his performance. He read this well and had plenty of tones and voices for the characters. His cadence and inflection was perfect too and he brought the book alive.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

I listened to the Audible version of this series and enjoyed it immensely. It took me a lot longer to finish it due to little annoyances like knee replacement surgery and the like, but the story itself and the narration was up to the usual high standards of Scare Street.
Charles Gottesman buys an old mansion that was once owned by Philip Sherman, who had a collection of war memorabilia that is possessed by the ghosts of the soldiers who once used them. These ghosts are particularly nasty, so Sherman decrees that whomever buys his house must never sell or give away the items in the library. Of course, nothing ever goes as planned and two thieves break into the house and attempt to steal some of the items. Now it is up to Charles to locate and return the stolen items to the library while the ghosts go on a killing spree. It's such good fun.

Who would think a haunted collection could cause so much destruction?

Charles is about to discover what can happen when haunted items are cursed. As he does his best to keep the collection safe, and the items locked up, it may just kill him - in fact, that is what they are trying to do!

I absolutely LOVED this book! I could not put it down. I listened to an audio version, so shower, car, work - I had it playing as much as I could so that I could find out what would happen next. Ron Ripley is one of the best out there, and I enjoy his stories. I hope he continues this series, I would love more!

What a great read! I read it in one day! I just wish the story was longer. The last few pages were bonus chapters. It would be awesome if Mr. Ripley wrote a book showing how Philip was introduced into collecting and how he went about finding the items. Ron Ripley is becoming a favorite of mine. If you haven’t yet take a look at his Berkeley Street series...you won’t be disappointed!!

have to say, I love Ron Ripley's writing.I feel if if is written by Ron it has been great. The storyline is well described with believable and interesting dark characters whether dead or alive. The story is dark with the librsry collections demanding all or none. You need to read the whole trilogy. This is a must read. Enjoy!!

The concept of this book is supernatural military paraphernalia that are haunted and must be kept in a library. The concept is what drew me to this book. Unfortunately, the story didn't develop and the characters were also one dimensional...didn't feel any connection with any of them. The book was very short which didn't allow for much of a story to develop.

A Cursed Collection

Ron Ripley is always dependable for providing an entertaining experience. Sherman's Collection has an unusual and original premise for a horror novel. I really enjoyed it and I liked the central characters very much. I'd love to see them in future books.

What a great book of shorts. I loved the extra scenes at the end. It gave us a glimpse as to how he got some of the collection. Having never read Ron Ripley before, I immediately looked him up. He has tons of scary, freaky books! I have a lot of catching up to do.

Definitely see this as a precursor to Ripley's current work. Haunted collections bent on murder. Just wow! Looking forward to reading the rest of Ripley's books.

I really enjoyed these books!

Well developed characters make or break a book. Mr Ripley brings his characters to life. The story moved along well. I did enjoy the extra scene which enhanced my read. I do not review by giving a synopsis of a book. I dislike when others do so. If you are a fan of the creepy, this is a must read. Keeping my eye out for more Mr Ripley.

Clearly just a start, a preview of what may come, an advert for a real trilogy in making, a work in progress still. But if the stories as a whole keep the level or better yet advance within the rich genre population, these pages might impress fans of "hidden magical and dark weirdness around us" flavors...

I totally loved this book, I love reading about Haunted objects and this book did not disappoint it was awesome, when Mr. Sherman was alive he had a very unique collection and now that he has died it's up to the new owner of his mansion to keep the collection intacted or there could be deadly consequences.

Best yet!!!

The only thing I didn't care for was that it is short. Overall a great page Turner. Really enjoyed the book, and bonus scene was a great little read to get ready for the rest of the trilogy.

Entertaining, but a trilogy? No. It's short even for a single book - more like a short story. And it seemed to wrap up in a hurry. I'd be interested in reading more....
