Merman In My Tub Story & Art by Itokichi

Official Synopsis:
A handsome merman named Wakasa is living with Tatsumi, a high school student–in his bathtub! Visits from Wakasa’s crazy friends Takasu the octopus, Agari the shark, Mikuni the jellyfish, and Maki the snail raise the chaos level even higher. As if that isn’t crazy enough, now a super-sadistic crab wants to take Wakasa away! The first meeting between Wakasa and Tatsumi is also revealed in this volume of the frothy bathtub comedy!

Genres: Comedy, Fantasy, Monster Boys/Aquatic Boys, & Slice of Life
Book Style: Manga (Japanese Comics - Read Right to Left)

I decided to read Merman In My Tub Story & Art by Itokichi Vol.5 because I read volume 1-4 and loved it so I wanted to continue the series. Once I started reading I fell in love with the story again! This story follows a teenage boy named Tatsumi who saves a merman named Wakasa from a nasty river and takes him to his home into his bathtub. While Wakasa stays at Tatsumi's house he learns more about the human world and becomes friends with Tatsumi later Wakasa invites his other aquatic friends to meet Tatsumi. My favorite characters are Tatsumi (Human), Wakasa (Merman), Takasu (Octopus) & Mikuni (Jellyfish) because I really like their friendship even though they're all different they can get along very well and even help each other out. Another character I love is Agari (Shark) because he's very shy when it comes to actually talking and he's also very scary almost like the shark from JAWS! My favorite parts of the story are when we finally see how Wakasa and Tatsumi first meet in the past when they where both younger but both of them remember it differently so I'm not sure which in is true. Another part I enjoyed is when Tatsumi (Human), Wakasa (Merman), Takasu (Octopus), Mikuni (Jellyfish), Agari (Shark), Maki (Snail) & Goromaru (Starfish) make wishes for The Star Festival and Agari wrote down "I wish to talk this year". everyone was shocked then he spoke but he sounds terrifying but this chapter was very heartwarming. Also I love the chapter where everyone is trying to make a movie in the bathroom it starts out as an adventure film then into a horror movie due to Agari's role as a shark like from "JAWS" which was so funny because this breaks the forth wall talking about their new anime for them! In this volume we get a new character named Echizen (Crab) who is very sadistic (likes giving others pain) and thinks Wakasa shouldn't hangout with humans until he learns about Wakasa and Tatsumi's bond/friendship. The friendship is really growing between Wakasa and Tatsumi because they have a deep connection and he's also friends with Wakasa's aquatic friends. The artwork is interesting because it's goes from classic/modern manga style then to chibi manga style which works for this story. I can't wait to read Merman In My Tub by Itokichi Vol.6 because I can't wait to see how their friendship grows and what other aquatic friends that Wakasa brings into the tub! I would recommend this book to people who love Mermaids/Mermen, aquatic creatures or just want a good laugh.

Perfect comfort read year round.

It's been a while since I read Mermaid In My Tub, but it was easy to jump back in and as always it brought a smile to my face every time I picked it up.

It is truly amazing all things that can go on in the small bathroom lol. Wasaka, Tatsumi, and co. get up to all kinds of hijinks and we even get a glimpse into the first time Wasaka and Tatsumi met!... Both of their versions.

As always, it was a pleasure to read. I would also like to recommend My Girlfriend is a T-Rex, Vol. 1 for fans of this series, it is definitely another fun episodic, Sunday morning comic style read like Merman.

A very cute, fluffy story to read on a nice day. Tatsumi putting up with the spoiled merman Wakasa and building a stronger friendship with him and all his fish people friends was very funny and sweet to read. I didn't really like Tatsumi's little sister, Kasumi, because of the weird relationship they kept pushing but putting that aside I really did enjoy the little stories! The art was very adorable and I simply enjoyed taking my time and reading it.

I started reading this manga series last year. This review will cover books 1-5. I am currently on book 6. It is an easy read that had me smiling by the pool on lazy summer days. The characters were beyond lovable, but sometimes I feel bad for Tatsumi. He works too hard. I love the jellyfish! I felt like I needed to tack that on.

You can't hope but PRAY Wakasa and Tatsumi live that happily-ever-after scenario because of how beautifully the manga's written. It's a good comfort read, but sometimes, it really does catch a girl slipping.

It’s fun seeing new characters pop up like Echizen, It was fun seeing his weird personality compared to everyone else’s. It’s easy to fall in love with the feel good vibe of the story.

The beginning was hella good? I wish the story had actually started like that? It could have been a real story with a real plot line and intense emotional scenes about Tatsumi seeing Wakasa after all those years and Wakasa secretly being in love with the young human after that day, and it COULD HAVE BEEN GREAT OkAy??

This was a hilarious new volume in this series. We have some backstory (and it gets countered back to Wakase too), a new character, various fun holidays pass by, and much more. Of course at some times I wonder how long Wakase will still be around, he can't live his whole life in a tub.
