Start was good but in middle everything got messed up.. Characters could be written in a more better way ..I see why so less people have read this book .. They have tried to inculcate elements of horror ,fantasy but couldn't make it . It can be said that only and only children can be happy with it .. It was a somewhat between 2.5and3star for me .. 🎪 I picked this book up as a little pallet cleaner between books, just a little filler, so I wasn't expecting too much. 🎪 It was a fun little book, with four main characters, and their interactions with a travelling show that has come to town over Halloween. It does say at the beginning of the book that the book has been adapted from a script, and it felt quite obvious. 🎪 This book is for younger readers, so maybe it was a bit lost on me, but the writing was extremely basic, often swapping from each characters POV between sentences, and not fully explaining certain situations (such as one of the characters, near the end of the book, throwing some holy water, and says she'd googled how to make it, but we'd not been given any context to any of that.) 🎪 If you'd like a little evening read, that you can switch your mind off, then this isn't a bad little book, but if you're hoping for some goosebumps style book, I think you'd be disappointed. However, I'll probably watch the film, as I think it's got some promise as a film. 🎪
Beth, Nicole, Luke and Kellen are four best friends, or as Luke would say, are a 'posse'. They sure do have the weird love triangle going on, as is in every group, but the strings of their hearts ring true. That is, until Dr. Hysteria and his house of horrors comes it to town before Halloween. Two new teens are also in town, Hunter and Lilith. Both are captivatingly beautiful. Beth, whom Kellen has a crush on, is taken by Hunter's handsome face, and Kellen is taken away by Lilith. A rift is born between the friends. What is with the new teens in town? Is Dr. Hysteria only smoke and mirrors as Hunter would have Beth believe? And what is the connection between Hunter, Lilith and Dr. Hysteria?
This is one of my favorite scary book. I love how the book has personal of 3 characters with more to be added. This is about a group of friends that decide to go to a in town carnival for Halloween. They took the opportunity and went to see what was it about. Little do they know there's a couple of real things behind the scene!!! I love it!!!
Honestly I just picked it up because it had halloween theme and I had thought I finished all R.L Stine books until this. Did feel a little off with character writing but otherwise, not bad.
I thought I would read this on Halloween to get in the mood. I saw the movie a few years ago so I picked up the book.
In all honesty, it wasn’t that great. It wasn’t bad! But it wasn’t an attention grabber. Even though the book was short I still felt like it was dragged out. I kept getting distracted and I even ended up skipping a few pages. If you love the author you should pick it up but if you’re just intending to read this as a fun Halloween book, don’t.
This book was provided to me as an uncorrected digital copy by the publisher via Edelweiss. Beth and Kellen are best friends, though Kellen would like for them to be more. He has decided that Halloween is the perfect time to finally ask Beth on a date. Unfortunately, Kellen may have waited too late, because The House of Horrors is in town, and Dr. Hysteria has brought his Cabinet of Souls along. The Cabinet of Souls is pretty typical juvenile horror fare. Some of the dialog feels pretty contrived and cheesy, but it’s not so bad that young readers will be put off. As a matter of fact, this book will probably go over well with horror fans between the ages of 8 and 12, and will definitely be a hit with kiddos who already enjoy the Goosebumps series. There is no gore or anything close to profanity, just a few good scares.
