Bear Bites #2

Get Your Shift Together

Rate this book
I’ve been looking for a mate in all the wrong places. When the right one shows up in Pine Falls with a man in tow, I almost miss her. Caroline Abbott is a sweetheart of a city girl who is making one last stab at keeping her (dead) relationship together. When her fool of an ex takes off and leaves her alone in the forest, I’m more than happy to step into his abandoned shoes.

While I can make her shout with pleasure, I worry those screams will turn to fear when she realizes that my hidden half is a bear.

I can’t keep the secret much longer, but telling her might scare her off for good.

Werebears +Smut+ Ruby Dixon = FUN FUN FUN

Leo has been fooling around for too long. Fate will bring at Pine Falls, the sweetest possible mate. Unfortunately, Caro will have her lousy exboyfriend with her while she tries to make a new start with him.
Very soon the exboyfriend will be history and Leo will be a happy bear.

Loved Leo and liked Caroline for the most part but I wasn't a fan of her talking about other men while with Leo. She let things go on with her ex for way too long. Other than that, a typical OTT insta love story with plenty of sexy times. Safety: Caroline starts off with a boyfriend. No OW/Sharing. They use condoms the first time. Neither are Vs. No rape/abuse.

I'm feeling under the weather, and I just finished some dark reads, so I thought that maybe some bear-shifter smut would make me feel better. Cuz that's what the doctor always tells me. And, I love the men that Ruby Dixon writes so much better than the freaking a-hole alphas that I have been reading about lately.

So, in this book, we have Leo, a bear in the not-a-gay-hairy-man way, who falls for a girl named Caro, as in the Caroline way, not the syrup.

Her syrup brings all the bears to the yard

Caro is desperately trying to fix her relationship with her jerk ex-boyfriend by going camping in the woods together. Cuz, what's more romantic than getting bit by bugs, sleeping on the ground with bugs, and not being able to wash your body to get all the bug guts off? (I really hate bugs) Plus, no indoor toilets? I'm in the mood for love!

Ex-boyfriend is not an ex-jerk though, he's got "active status" checked on his jerk membership card.

And, because of this urgent phone call, jerky ex leaves Caro in the woods alone where she capably manages things herself.

Just kidding, she somehow sets up her tent upside down. Is that a possibility? Cuz, maybe it will keep the bugs out better. You never know, right?

Luckily, Leo the bear, helped them out at the camping supply store earlier that day and decided that he wanted what Caro was selling. So, he not-creepily-at-all ran into the woods to "help" her. And, he helps her all right. *Cue porn music*

That's really almost all there is to this thing because these bear guys are simple creatures: they like the honey, they buy it.

The heroine ruined it. She was an annoying doormat who let her jerk of an ex-boyfriend push her around like a ragdoll. Also, why the hell did she have to talk about STDs and sex with other guys during the deed? WTF. Plus, her screeching and jumping to conclusions made me want to shove her ass into hell. I pitied Leo for being stuck with a mate like her.

Oh, well. Off to the next book!

*Each NOVELLA can be read as a STANDALONE*

description

Get Your Shift Together is the second book in Ruby Dixon's newest (Bear Bites) series of novellas—wherein the tiny, off-the-beaten-path town of Pine Falls, which is inhabited by both humans and Shifters...

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

He kisses my temple and snuggles me against him, but I notice that his hand stays between my legs in a possessive gesture, as if he’s guarding what belongs to him.

Bear-shifter Leo might be a bit of a playboy, but that's only because he's been searching for his mate...so what if it's between-the-sheets?

But when the sweet, shyly seductive Caroline Abbott stumbles into Pine Falls, it's time for Leo to get his shift together, because Caro wants true love and truer sex—even if she has to tape the pieces of the broken relationship she has with her long-time boyfriend, Bill, together.

Though, the tape on their relationship breaks when Bill leaves Caro deep in the woods of Pine Falls. On an unfamiliar path, Caro is alone with her thoughts and yearnings for something more.

“I do appreciate you coming to look for me though. That was… sweet.”
“Can’t let someone as pretty as you get eaten by bears,” he teases.

Until Leo steps between the trees, and with a smirk, shows her the way...

...into his pants. And then home, in his heart, as his mate.

He growls again, and his thrusts become wild as he anchors me against him and fucks me harder. “Mine,” he snarls low in his throat.

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

Just like its preceder, Get Your Shift Together was a well-written, short and smutty novella with shifting (pun intended) POV's, sexy sex scenes, and intriguing characters.

“Wanna tell me your last name, or do I need to get between your legs and give you some more convincing?”

There were instances were I did yearn for more development/explanation of the (Bear Bites) world, as well as its characters—but I still remained satisfied with the story for what it was: a quick, slightly over-the-top, fun, paranormal romance read.

So overall, I would recommend this novella to those who aren't looking to read something serious—instead are hoping for a little smut, a big shifter, and lots of lip-biting smiles...

“That’s it,” I declare, and turn her over so she’s ass up. Sweet little ass, I think, and then slap her hard.

♠ ♣ ♥ ♦

A GREAT KIND OF NONSENSE:

*PS: I was given an copy of this book. But I do solemnly swear that I am up to...good. ;) This is a fair and honest review of this book, pinky promise.*

Another good, fast, read from the Bear Bites series that I enjoyed most of. I liked reading about Leo finding his mate and keeping her, but I didn't like her. Caro's character fell flat for me and she actually kind of ruined the story. The whole thing about her and her ex was just a little weird for me.

Again, the story seemed to be missing something, but I did enjoy the majority of it. Leo saved it for me and I would definitely recommend this book for pnr lovers.

Another 55 pages of bear shifting fun, yet this story felt longer than the previous one.

The h is a super passively timid gal with abysmal self confidence, which didn't bother me, but it didn't enamor me. Leo, the sweetheart that he is, makes it his goal in life to bolster and recover her self worth + get into her pants and never get out again.

Meh, this book wasn't for me. I guess I had too high expectations. I couldn't connect with both main characters but I could connect with the small scene where Mal shows up. So, that should tell you a lot.

Also, what's up with the constant reminder of Bill? Like, seriously?!

description

I didn't need to hear how she faked her orgasms or how she knew they would break up or yada yada yada. Specially not when she and Leo are about to have sex. I felt like he was the third main character, although he wasn't even in the picture anymore.

But whatever! If you like the plot, read the book. :)

Not as enjoyable as the first one. Leo and Caroline were sweet together, but I didn't like the addition of her jerky boyfriend. Also- I don't like Leo's manwhore past, especially since we heard a little about his night with 2 eighteen year olds in the first book. I never forget those details which can make series tough for me:( I remember him saying they scratched him, made crazy noises, both walked funny the next morning and wanted to know when he would visit their town again. Plus he is 28 to their 18. It didn't help that I read 1 and 2 back to back. I have high hopes for number 3.

I liked this one! It's about Leo, 28 and Caroline, over 30.

Caroline booked a trip there with his boyfriend, Bill thinking they can still fix their relationship but once they were there, she realized that it was a mistake.

She met Leo while she and Bill were buying stuffs they needed for fishing. She went to the campsite with Bill and then she started a fight and he left her there alone.

After work, Leo went to tavern to eat and Bill showed up there to drink. Once Leo knew Bill left her there, he went to find her and they spent the night together.

The next morning, Bill showed up but Caroline didn't want to be with him and just told him to go back alone. She stayed with Leo and when they went to meet Eli, she thought Leo was married and that's when Leo explained about him being a bear.

I didn't enjoy this one quite as much as the first but it was still a good addition to the series. What I didn't like about it was I felt Caro had let Bill run over her too much. The fact that she kept letting him come back was a little off-putting to me so I didn't buy into her character. I did like that she accepted Leo as a bear without any hesitation.

I loved Leo! I especially liked how he knew she was his mate almost right away and accepted it. He also realized he had been looking for a mate in all the wrong ways and regretted it.

On the the next one!

I adored this entire series! These books are hot as shift! Ruby Dixon (who brought you Ice Planet Barbarians) takes on the insta-obssesed alpha shifter hero trope with her unique brand of humour and turns it into something adorably cute and toe-curlingly swoon-worthy with her pack of bears who growl their way through life and who are more than ready to lay down and curl up in the lap of their mate.

Even if shifter or paranormal romance is not your thing, you will absolutely love short novellas as they are fairly low on the paranormal but very high on loveable, sexy heroes and the curvy and sassy heroines they’re obsessed with.

I’m obsessed with all of these men and I am not ashamed to admit that my fantasies now include falling into a cuddly den of bear hugs and fur petting.

Get Your Shift Together

Leo’s life is a case of same shift, different day as he works his way through all the available females that roll through town, but these hook-ups never last past one night. So it’s ironic when he nearly misses his mate as she rolls through town with her boyfriend in tow. Luckily, Caroline’s prize of a boyfriend ditches her in the woods by herself and when Leo comes to her rescue he realises she’s the one meant for him. Only one problem.. Leo needs to tell Caroline he sometimes turns into a bear without scaring the shift out of her.

Caroline has her own misgivings about this new man who is all over her and she’s convince he’s hiding something – like a wife and two kids. Leo is very cute with his whorish ways and sense of humour and the romance between him and the more reserved Caroline was completely perfect. The sexy times are saucy with a bit of humour and the two of them are just so sweet together!

A whole lotta camping sex in this one!

He kisses my temple and snuggles me against him, but I notice that his hand stays between my legs in a possessive gesture, as if he’s guarding what belongs to him.

Caro was a frustrating character to read, her insecurities and doormat-ness with Bill had me questioning if she'd really be strong enough to be a bear shifter's mate.

I did like Leo, he was charming and reassuring to Caro. I could have done without his manwhore-ish past.

I think that maybe these books are just a bit too short to get better for me, there's not enough time to put more into the world building which would make it more enjoyable. I really liked Leo but Caroline was too short in the confidence department and I hate females who jump to irrational conclusion with no basis behind them, so she's not my fave. Otherwise, a good read.

4 SHIFTING HIS WAY INTO MY HEART STARS

**WARNING: SOME PARTS OF THIS REVIEW ARE REPEATED IN EACH BOOK OF THE SERIES' REVIEW AS THE INFORMATION PERTAINS TO THE SERIES AS A WHOLE, BUT EACH BOOK WAS REVIEWED INDIVIDUALLY AS WELL.**

Confession:HOT COVERS and CLEVER TITLES are what drew me to this series because until the Bear Bites Series I was a "shifter virgin". You heard me right. I sat back judgingly for a long time thinking everyone else was nuts for reading this genre and I was the only sane one for abstaining. I was wrong and I say I was wrong!

I ADORE this series and I am officially going to expand my horizons to other shifter series solely because of how much I enjoyed this one! If that's not a glowing endorsement, I don't know what is.

From the moment he was introduced in Book 1 I knew I wanted a book with Leo as the H and I'm so tickled I got it! Leo is hot and sweet and stands out in this group of male bear shifters because he isn't as Intense or Brooding but that takes nothing from how damn sexy he is!

Caroline is sweet and insecure to a fault. She wastes time on a man who was never likely to change and questions everything along the way. Because of what she had been through I accepted these qualities in her because I found them to be authentic. All I wanted for her was to get her happy ending.

I wasn't quite as crazy about this one as I was the 1st and 4th books in this series but I enjoyed it. I thought it was a nice transition from the 1st and into the 3rd. Given these are all short books I feel they are best read as one large book in order.

My review comes with the warning that this is a series of NOVELLAS, in other words these are short quick reads so there is no time for extra detail or character development. With that being said I sat down one night thinking, "why not" and figured if I wasn't into it, I wouldn't have committed much time and a day later I had finished all four. I was consumed!

Another sweet quickly shifter mate story by Ruby Dixon. We met Leo in the last book. He has been looking for a mate but having no luck. Caroline walks into his shop and he thinks he might be lucky except for the boyfriend in tow. Well not to worry, the boyfriend has been kicked to the curb within a few hours and Leo and her enjoy some time communing with nature in the woods.

For me, this one was just not quite as "hot" as the last one.

Ooof okay this one is not for me.

The heroine and hero get together the same day she and her ex break up. Yes, the ex was a piece of crap up it still wasn't my favorite thing. Plus, the heroine kept thinking about him or bringing him up and it was just a little icky to me.

Meh. Todo muy deprisa. Me molesta que la única preocupación de la mina es si el tipo está o no casado. Ese tipo de caracterización reduce al personaje.

I liked Leo but this book just felt like a step backwards compared to the first book. Even their sex scene had a consistency error in it (At 39%: 'Groaning, I capture her mouth. Her sweet essence fills my lungs with every breath I draw. She tastes better than wild honey, and I can’t get enough. I push her backward, angling my head to get deeper access.' Then at 46% she says 'You haven't even kissed me.' Grrrrrrrrr). Then at one point he asks her if her nipples are sore and does he need to suck them? Huh? Why would they be sore? It was just a weird thing to say.

Then the already short book actually ends at 76% with the last 24% being synopsis' and excerpts from her other books. Which is fine but one of them is for THIS BOOK. There's a synopsis/advertisement for the book. we just. read.

Then I go to download the 3rd book in the series but I stop when I see that the h is half the age of the H (not ever really my cup of tea but I can hang) and during their sex scenes she calls him "daddy" and he calls her "baby girl"?? Ew ew all of my ews forever. I think I'll definitely be skipping that one. Maybe the 4th one will be save the series for me.

Heh. I still get such a giggle out of these titles. A good play on words makes me happy and this series DELIVERS in that regard.

So. This time we have Leo and Caro. Caro might have a few issues she needs to work through where her douchey is concerned. Mostly, that she doesn't need him. especially not when she has a big, growly bear like Leo around. Let face it, these Pine Falls shifters know how to treat their ladies and they are completely unafraid to show it. Several times per night.

I'm enjoying this series. It's light-hearted and fun and big bears NEVER finish first. If you know what I mean.

This review will count for novellas 1-5.
These were definitely entertaining Problem for me is that being that short they had no substance. The whole virgin, mate, love at first sight is not enough. i really felt like all the heroines were just to easy on the guys. They found out and were like ooohhh okkk cool you turn into a bear no problem guy now wheres your bedroom? No one finds out about a bear shifter and takes it so perfectly the first time. I just needed some realness. i felt like i got none here, they were still enjoyable for what they were, but i have read so many books by her now and this doesn't really compare to her others at all.
again i couold be being to harsh but its just my thoughts.

FOUR Stars!

I received an ARC for an honest review of Get Your Shift Together (Bear Bites #2) by Ruby Dixon

The book Does a Bear Shift in the Woods is the fourth book in the Bear Bites Series. Every book in the series is short, clever, entertaining and hot! The stories are about shifters, either a Bear, Wolf and often both. This story is about Caroline and her attempt to salvage an old relationship. She comes to Pine Falls and after her old boyfriend leaves her in the woods, she gets her second encounter with Leo. Leo and Caroline are quite a pair, and their passion is so exciting!

I don't know why it took me so long to read this. It's like, 50 pages or something and it took me three days to finish!!

I liked Leo. He's carefree and chill, but for some reason my enthusiasm in getting through this book was so low. Maybe it was Caro. Hated how she always jumped to (the wrong) conclusions all the time.

It was much the same as the first one. Just not as good... I will still read the other books, but probably a bit later...
