For the last decade, bear shifter Pat Singer posted a specific want ad in the December newspaper. Each year, Pat gets the same response—zero. Except this year’s different. Finally, someone agrees to role-play Pat’s dead mate.
Spending Christmas Eve with a rich psycho shifter might seem unreasonable to some. To survive the harsh winter, former soldier Jacob Reynolds has no choice but to turn to desperate measures…except Pat Singer isn’t the crazy bastard Jacob imagines him to be.
The sexy, but reluctant werebear pushes all of Jacob’s right buttons, and if Jacob doesn’t guard his heart, he might end up getting burned.

This is a very cute little free read. The scene with the bear shifter and the alarm clock on a December morning is hilarious! But then as the story goes on I was sad to discover more of Pat's background, and while I thought his want-ad a little strange, we all deal with loss in a different way and in the end? He was open-minded enough to let something new and wonderful happen and that is all that counts.
If you like bear shifters, and if you're looking for a quick, fun holiday read, give this one a try. I liked it a whole lot!

This is a tale of wanting but not believing or expecting to have a ten year wish be fulfilled. Pat's husband had died on Christmas Eve, ten yesteryears ago, from a fatal car accident. The driver was drunk. Pat had become overwhelmed with paranormal rage, and tore off the driver's side car door to remove the killer from his vehicle. He would have allowed his bear to kill the drunken fool. He did not succeeded since the police arrived at the scene and used a tranquilizer gun on him. Fast forward to now. His Christmas desire was to hire a doppelganger of his deceased spouse. There were rules and expectations for the accomplishments of his yearning. He knew it would not replace his husband, but he wanted to try. After checking the ad for ten years, he got a reply. The inquiring man was a vet of the military with no job, no income, no shelter, no prospects for a better today.....he was desperate. He had doubts and he was suspicious of the FOR REAL, FOR REAL situation, but took the plunge, anyway. There was chemistry between Pat and the doppelganger. PLUS, good vibes with the wisdom to go beyond the surface to see and feel the brokenness. Both men were mentally and emotionally damaged from their past but was willing to go forward....It's a short tale of courage, boldness, strength with the serenity to know what could and couldn't be changed, and the ability to know the difference. I had become so engrossed with the characters that I was not pleased that the tale was NOT longer. PLEASE extend it by an extra one hundred plus pages. I want to know how they proceed and progress as individuals and as a couple. Maybe, just MAYBE....it will be a marriage with the trimmings and confessions of 2nd chance love. Hope is a great antidote!
Mate Wanted for Christmas by Angelique Voisen is a bitter sweet take on a holiday romance. Pat has enough trouble getting up in the morning in the winter. His Grizzly wants to hibernate. But he manages to get up, even though the memories of his lost love drag his heart down all day long. He has placed an ad like he does every Christmas for a person to come spend the holidays with him. Well this year he finally gets a response. Jacob looks exactly like Pat's dead mate. He replied to the ad because he too did not want to be alone for the holidays. He is a human not a shifter. He is spirited, blunt, and honest. He might have been shot in the military but he does not let life get him down for long. This is a great start to their relationship. I would love to visit them again and see where they go with everything. Super bittersweet romance that is truly unforgettable.
A sweet, sexy 'happy for now' free story, but without the bulk to make it an real winner. I wanted more background on both characters, and more than just the details of one evening. Does the relationship last longer than the next morning, does Pat repeat his grumpiness of the morning before? Does Jacob succeed in drawing the werebear out of his self imposed cave? And competing with the memory of Pat's dead mate? Too many questions and not enough answers to warrant a higher rating.
This short story has a lot of sadness but grows hopeful for both characters as it progresses. It's definitely a happy-for-now type story. Not really a holiday story--it could have been set at any time like maybe the dead mate's birthday or their anniversary. I liked it enough to look up more writing by the author.
It is a abort story with too much going on to be able to pull it off on this few pages. EVERYTHING should have had more depth. The characters, the fledgling relationship, the plot and the background. There are a lot that the author is introducing, but don't develop further. I feel like I've been cheated out of a good story.
Three and half stars for this shortie. There isn't too much room for character development but there is a bit of background on both characters. I'd love to see a follow up. There is so much possibility for a great full length book. I liked both men. Jacob holds his own against the cantankerous Pat. The chemistry certainly is hot between them, but there's a lot of baggage too. Adult read
I gave this short story five stars because it kept me entertained. From the first page to the last. I like that both heroes weren't perfect. They both had issues that drew them to each other. Sometimes what you need is just a fresh start. Let the past go, live in the presence and hope for a better future.
Barely made it to two stars (no pun intended). This story was ok but the insta-love just didn’t feel right. Jacob talked about the obvious chemistry with Pat but it was not obvious to the reader. HFN ending because being so short with no character development, you really can’t get to a HEA. This story also need some serious editing as there were too many grammatical errors.
Wow, this story tugged at the old heart strings. The holidays are hard for many reasons. But being alone, makes it harder to navigate the happy ho ho hos. But taking that chance, really taking the chance, can open up and possibly heal the past hurts in time for a true celebration. Lovely story.
The Christmas story of Pat and Jacob was a tender look of two lonely people during the holidays. I found it touching and erotic. It was definitely a good read. I wished it had been a longer story.
This was a cute short read, emphasis on short. I wish there had been more, it seemed the story was just starting. The characters were interesting and the plot has potential.
I wanted to love this but I just didn't. If it had been just a little bit longer maybe the mc's could have built some chemistry. I liked both characters but I didn't feel any chemistry between them. This similar theme was done better in Trick of Time.
Sorta hot, but really short. The grammar errors only drove me slightly crazy, not full-on foaming rabid. These guys could have been so much more developed -- it was a little cartoony in the lack of development.
Mysterious, sensual and erotic story between Pat and Jack in Christmas. The shapeshifter bear and the cute ex military man makes a perfect couple. Quick, easy to follow and exciting that's makes it perfect for a strong coffee before the day starts.
i might be interested in reading more about Pat and Jocob because it wasn't bad, but it was much too short in this form. sure, it was sexy and i liked the idea of a widowed werebear but I'm not a fan of insta-love and it felt like one.
Loved this short and sweet story about a sad bear shifter who wants to re do a say in his life that changed everything. Jacob is the guy who is suppose to help him do that. But they both realize soon enough that this is a bit different the they expected..
A wonderful short story about a werebear shifter that had lost his mate 10 years ago. He had put an ad in the newspaper for what type man he was looking for.
When a man answers the ad, it's a Christmas Eve to remember for the both of them!
Free on Amazon. Didn't like it at all, but I guess it could be worse. The whole idea of this story goes against everything I like to see in a romance, so I really don't get how this was the top 1 in the free lgbt romances in Amazon...
Heartbroken and hurt Pat places an ad each Christmas that always goes unanswered until this year....Jacob replies. Nice short holiday romance. Would've liked a more affirmative ending, but we can assume a positive long term relationship.
This was a good book but too short. The author leaves you wanting more between Jacob and Pat. Can Pay find love again with Jacob or does he hang on his memories of his dead husband unwilling to move on. Or does Jacob bring him back to the land of the living.
