Bitten Point #2

Panther's Claim

Rate this book
Hitting on the wrong woman finds Daryl regaining consciousness in a motel taped to a chair. Things were looking up—and not just below the belt. A sexy, cocoa-complexioned veterinarian—with killer curves—wants answers, and he’s only too happy to give them to her, for a price, say a kiss, or something more, from those luscious lips. The problem is Cynthia isn’t the type to fall for flirty words and panty-dropping smiles. She tempts Daryl into helping her. Teases him into acting. Claims his heart without even trying. But that was okay because…She’s mine…and someone was trying to hurt her. Hell no. This kitty isn’t afraid to unleash his claws and rescue the woman he wants. An intriguing, hot woman, a mystery, and danger? Sounds like fun, and Daryl is ready to play. He’ll do anything to claim Cynthia as his mate.

Daryl and Cynthia - Daryl is a black panther shifter. He wakes up and finds that he is tied up and there is no lady friend around. He doesn’t know who tied him up or why, when he suddenly remembers the woman he was flirting with last night at the bar, who later drugged him when they were making out in her car.

Cynthia is part wolf shifter and is a veterinarian. She kidnapped Daryl to get information, thinking he is a dangerous man and may be involved in the disappearance of her friend Aria. Daryl is attracted to Cynthia and his panther wants to claim her, so after answering her questions and showing her that he doesn’t know anything about Aria, he agrees to help Cynthia.

The first book Croc’s Return had some sort of dragon shifter that was in half shift, that the characters thought might be a failed experiment, though the monster died and they couldn’t find any proof the local genetics company, BitTech was involved. This book furthers that plot and more of these monsters are on the loose.

The story in this one was a bit crazy and I just didn’t like Cynthia much. I think the author was going for a quirky character, but she ended up as a super-ditzy caricature. She was supposed to be a veterinarian, and I can’t imagine her even making it out of high school much less having medical training.

This book was told in dual points of view via solo narration and was narrated by Chandra Skyye. She does a decent job with a southern accent and does a few different voices for the different characters. Though I think the voice she used for Cynthia made her ditziness sound much worse, so much so that I nearly quit this one.

Panther's Claim was a lot of fun, with a mystery, some hot moments and quite a bit of danger.

Review - (un)Conventional Bookviews

Listening to Panther's Claim was a treat! I loved the humor, and I also loved how out there Cynthia was in many ways. I mean, she kidnapped Daryl to figure out if he had kidnapped her friend... That is pretty out there, no? Their chemistry was off the charts, though, and I enjoyed how they both slowly came to realize they might be fated mates. The mystery that started in Croc's Return continues here, and the disappearances of shifters seem very ominous and unnatural, as do the hybrid shifters who attack Cyn and Daryl.

There were a lot of interactions between the male characters in Panther's Claim, as they worked together to figure out both why Daryl and Cyn were attacked more than once, and what happened to Cyn's friend. The search for truth mixed with the romance between Cyn and Daryl were well done, and when parents were added to the mix, things went from campy to hilarious, especially because both of the mothers just want their child to get married. Like, right now!

Told in third person perspective, and with dialogues that the narrator managed to share really well, Panther's Claim is a great instalment in Langlais' Bitten Point series - and it left me wanting more so much I immediately one-clicked the next two books on audible. The only thing that didn't work too well for me when it comes to the narrator was the way she did the 'squeals' Cynthia sometimes made.

Fave Quotes - (un)Conventional Bookviews

“I told you. I need answers from you.” “So instead of asking me”—he waved a hand around the room—“you came up with this brilliant plan.” He didn’t bother to hide his mocking. “I had to improvise.”

“I don’t suppose you molested me while I was all tied up?” That out-of-the-blue query had her mouth hanging open, and she blinked. “Are you for real?” “Totally. Want to touch me again and see?”

Well, I suppose I'm in the minority on this one. I love this writer but this book didn’t work for me at all. It felt like something major was missing. The writing and plot had a "choppy" feel to it. I didn’t connect to the characters either. The had such a bland and generic feel to them. Also, this book was way overpriced at $3.99. The only thing I did like was the brief exchanges before starting each new chapter. I doubt I will read anymore in this series.

My review and an extended sample of the audiobook are posted at Hotlistens.com.

I loved my trip back to Bitten Point. This trip there are still shifters that are coming up missing. Cynthia has come to town to try to find her friend. She’s a wolf, but she doesn’t like to shift in front of others. She’s very self-conscious with how her wolf looks. We don’t find out why until almost the end of the book.

Daryl is quite the player and the panther in this book. He sees no reason to settle down with a single woman. That is until he accidently marks Cynthia. He had no intention of doing that, did he? He offers to help Cyn search for her friend. He is in complete denial about his feelings for Cyn for most of the book. He so doesn’t want to give up his bachelor life.

I don’t feel like we’ve learned a whole lot about what is going on in the town with the disappearances. They keep running into weird smelling shifters who have weird collars on them. They continue to find these shifters on two legs instead of four.

We do have Constantine and Princess helping in the search (it will be great to get to their book next). I swear there is something up with that dog. I hope we learn more about her. Caleb was also around to help with the search.

There are two real winners in this book. One is that we have opening in each chapter similar to Charley Davidson. Some of those were hilarious.
Daryl’s T-shirt of the day, “I’m a ray of fucking sunshine”.

Constantine’s Shirt, a gift from Daryl: “If my chihuahua doesn’t like you, than neither will I.”

The second is the parents. Both sets of parents are so pushy and involved. I had a lot of fun listening to them.
Cynthia: So thanks for letting Daryl and I have some time alone last night. We managed get a few things talked out.
Mom: So he proposed?
Cynthia: NO!
Mom: Why not?

Narration
Once again, I’ve enjoyed listening to the narration. I think Chandra Skyye continues to get better with each book. In this one, she had to do a latino accent of Daryl’s mother, which I thought she handled really well. I think she did great with all the males and female voices. I have come to enjoy her narrations of the books.

**I like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Quirky, cute and often funny, Eve Langlais has given readers yet another paranormal romance that’s a winner! Panther’s Claim takes us back to Bitten Point, a shifter town where the few humans living there have no clue who their neighbors truly are.

Daryl finds himself in a very intriguing position when he wakes tied to a chair with the sexy woman from the bar last night standing over him. Demanding answers on her missing best friend, Cynthia is determined to get the answers she seeks, even if her captive is the most delicious thing she’s ever seen.

Cynthia was an interesting heroine because she spent the entire book trying NOT to shift to her animal form. She kept saying something was wrong with her in that form so I kept imagining awful things. When circumstances finally forced her to shift towards the end of the book the result was much less horrifying than anything I was mentally picturing. In fact I found her freaking out a bit over the top. Other than that little snafu, I found her to be a daring and hilarious character. She had no qualms saying what she was thinking to whoever she may have been talking to.

Always one for a good alpha male, Daryl kept me entertained the entire book. He may have had trouble saying aloud what his inner beastie was thinking but his actions definitely screamed “protective male”. His Latin flavor was a spicy addition when coupled with Cynthia’s cocoa skin beauty.

The ongoing story arc of the shady company that may or may not be making their own f’d up shifter combos made some pretty good leeway in Panther’s Claim. Enough information came to light to keep me satisfied and feeling like the story wasn’t becoming stagnant in order to push more books into the series, which I sometimes feel in these paranormal books. Langlais manages to keep the story going while introducing characters who I am sure will be getting their own stories eventually. In fact, the next books is Constantine’s, who is a snake shifter, and I never thought I’d look forward to one of those. But I totally am.

Quirky and fun to read, Panther’s Claim will indulge your shifter fantasies!

I give Panther’s Claim by Eve Langlais 4 stars!

OH my what a book. Eve Langlais is one author that never disappoints in a story and this one is no different. She has out done herself with the suspense that started in book 1 of this series and up it more in book 2. i love the the female MC in this book is a little crazy but gave the sexy panther on a "tail" chasing adventure to find her friend. I am completely hooked on this series and can not wait for the next book in this delightful sit on the edge of you seat novel to come to my kindle.

“He stopped, though, after we gave him crabs.”
“You infected your father with a disease?”
“Not those kinds of crabs.” He rolled his eyes. “We filled his expensive BMW with real ones. Turns out they’re rough on leather.”

Cynthia (Thea to her friends and family But pure CYN to Daryl) Has a one track mind find what this man did to her friend. With the last picture she post to her social account her with him what is a girl to think. So she sets up a trap for the sexy man and only lead to her friends vanishing act. Kidnap him and make him talk. Who know one kiss would make her inner wolf howl for more.

Daryl Player extraordinaire wakes up taped to a chair with what looks like little duck and i mean little ducks on it. His kitty likes ducks but really wants a taste on the mocha skinned captor. Oh how his kitty wants a bite of her. Wait no biting but licking could so be on the menu. Once he finds out whats going on he and his kitty only want to help her and that is where the adventure begins....

“I don’t suppose you molested me while I was all tied up?”
That out-of-the-blue query had her mouth hanging open, and she blinked. “Are you for real?”
“Totally. Want to touch me again and see?”

If the first male character made me want to punch him, the female character in this book made me roll my eyes so many times at her stupidity I am worried I might not be be able to see straight for a while. It felt like a parody... also, the investigation happening in this series is dumb.

Heather's Note
This book was funny, but also annoying. Cynthia was funny. A lot of what she did made me laugh, but her parents were annoying. Why would any be ok with their mom taking measurements why they sleep. Not Cool. Also Daryl's back and forth was also a little ridiculous. Oh, yea and Cynthia's "deformity" really ridiculous - she is a wolf with a bear tale. I am not sure why she was so sensitive about it. Still the funny parts made up for a lot of the other items. I will continue reading the series as they are short.

Cynthia needs information about the disappearance of her best friend and the way she's going to get it is by kidnapping Panther shifter Daryl. Of course this doesn't go as she planned it to go and when they get attacked by some creepy hybrid creatures they agree to bundle their forces. Daryl finds out that Cynthia is not just a ( slightly) crazy wolf shifter, but she might also be the mate he didn't know he was looking for.

Pro's:
+ This is a really good combo of a paranormal romance and a detective-y story. It might go a bit over the top at some points, but the storyline is really good and reads away really easy.
+ The leading characters are really relatable and you're just rooting for them to get together and be happily ever after.
+ There is also some development in some side characters and I hope they will be the leading charackters in the upcoming books.

Con's:
- Again, the ending of this book, is totally not related to this story. I think it might be an excerpt from the third installment of this series.

This is another recommended read. I'm not sure if you need to readt the first entry to fully enjoy this story, as the underlying storyline is explain really well and I'm looking forward to find out who's behind the mystery creatures and what the Bittech institute has to do with it.

And we are back to the Eve Langlais I love most! I laughed so hard throughout much of this story. I just cannot get over Constantine and Princess! I adored Daryl and Cyn. She was so funny with her impulsive nature, yet often naive about things you'd least expect, but completely smart about other things. She kept me guessing how she would handle each conflict. It has been awhile since I read a story where both mains were shifters and knew about mates. I love that Eve did not go down the tired trope of refusal of the hero to recognize that he met his mate. Daryl knew. He just didn't think he wanted to settle with one person yet. It was a different process to get through than the usual what is happening here diatribe most authors seem to use. Oh, and the parents! Both moms were hilarious. I loved how Daryl handled Cyn's parents. This entire story was just packed full of fun moments.

I really wish someone would find a way for us to rate in half stars! This was a pretty solid 4.5 for me. Not perfect, not even her best or my favorite, but it was very entertaining and fun to listen. The narrator of the audiobook did a fantastic job. She's really found the voices for all the characters in this series. Looking forward to the next book. I'm dying to find out who is at the top of the food chain on the SHC calling the shots on this hybrid monstrosity and why.

So, based on Daryl’s laid back introduction in the first book, I would expect no less from his character in the this book. I wasn’t disappointed because I felt like Daryl was the same “Daryl” I met in the first book. I began to like Daryl more in this book because the author did a good job of showing that laid back attitude didn’t detract from his caring about his friends or the townspeople.

The mystery progressed a lot more in this book and the reader is getting a feel for just how big of a mystery this is. The author did a good job of raising the stakes and leaving us waiting for the next story.

The biggest issues were how many times the author used the phrased “Cynthia squeaked.” The narrator did a fabulous job of putting a good squeak in Cynthia’s voice. I just felt like a veterinarian and a shifter would be less naïve and squeamish as this book portrayed Cynthia. She was a big weakness to this book. I loved her look and how she was introduced but the expectation of her character was a disappointment after a great introduction.

The narrator was great, and I felt like it was the same voice for each character that I heard in the first book. I hope the series continues with this narrator.

Story 4,0/5
Hörbuchfassung 4,6/5
Charaktere 3,6/5
Gesamt 4,0/5

Intrigue, humour and um....romance?

This story led me to many laugh out loud moments (thankfully not all in public). The heroine was sassy, hilarious and bold. The hero was crude, rude and a reluctant mate however, it all worked to give the characters depth and the story shots of humour! What had seemed like a complex mystery in book one has now become even more intriguing with certain developments in this book (no spoilers).
A lot of focus went into the heroines career as a vet and yet only a small reward was reaped from this through her identification of the dogman and understanding of princess. Overall I would happily recommend this book for a humourous yet intriguing read although there are several serious plotlines running throughout so it is not a light-hearted book. I am looking forward to reading the next book and discovering what dastardly agenda is being followed in bitten creek!

Daryl thought he was going to have an evening to remember with sexy Cynthia and he did. Waking up and finding out he had been kidnapped and tied to a chair, was not the memorable event he thought he would enjoy but she has peaked his interest. Not letting that stop him from trying to Cynthia, he is pulled into a mystery surrounding her friend who has disappeared. He agrees to help and enlists his friends in the search, what he does not plan on is making Cynthia his mate. A frisky moment leads to a bite and Daryl is not ready for his mate but he also doesn't seem to want to give up Cynthia. With a dangerous situation on the horizon will Daryl be willing to let his mate go or decide she is it for him?

A lot of the chapters have these chats between Cynthia and her mom which are just hilarious. Entertaining story, I liked the dynamic between Daryl and Cynthia they both are playing a bit of cat and mouse in a sense. Had some very funny laugh out loud moments.

Panther's Claim is the second in Eve Langlais' Bitten Point series, set in the Louisiana bayou. Daryl, a panther shifter, flirts with a lovely woman at the local watering hole and finds himself in bondage, of the not consensual variety. Cynthia, a wolf shifter, with a tendency to jump in with both feet, needs his help tracking down her BFF, and well, it seemed like a good idea at the time...

Eve Langlais' action packed story is full of humor and plenty of heat. There's something afoot at Bitten Point, and Cyn and Daryl determine to get to the bottom of it, even as they're trying to avoid tumbling into immediately indulging their mutual lust. Their all-too-delighted family and friends are all too happy to give them a nudge, even as they all work together to investigate the mystery at hand. An entertaining read to be sure!

Second in the bitten point series, we begin where the epilogue of the last book left off.
Dylan, a panther shifter from Bitten Point, finds himself in a motel room, kidnapped by a beautiful woman (Cynthia).
She’s trying to find a missing friend, and it’s not long before Dylan offers to help.
They run into some difficulty though, and a few bad guys along the way!

This was a fun addition to this series, featuring some cameos from the stars of the first book, and a few characters we are bound to hear more from later.
The background story arc makes a very small amount of progress, but the vast majority of the story is really all about Cyn and Dylan trying to come to terms with FEELINGS.
If you like PNR then you’ll enjoy this series!

I found book 2 more enjoyable than book 1, it starts off with a female wolf shifter drugging and kidnapping a sexy panther shifter because she thinks he knows where her best friend went.

Well he knows nothing but after the strange “Dino” monster that tried to take his best friend’s kid a couple weeks ago, he believed her story and agreed to help her find her friend.

They get nothing but road blocks though and attempts at their life. His friends even try to help but they only discover a dead body and the evidence of more missing people, but then the bed & breakfast and the tunnels underneath are set on fire and everything collapses the evidence and all.

They fall in love and become mated both of their parents are very excited.

There was mystery, spice and humour Ron this book!

Nice kitty

Cyn is in Bitten Point looking for her missing friend Aria.
Tracking down the guy who last saw her, panther shifter Daryl, she drugs him and kidnaps him to interrogate him, by she's very inept at it, even using rubber duck duct tape to the him up.
She's a wolf shifter but pretty shy.
Easily getting free, this kitty decides to help the wolf in looking for her BFF, but they're attacked a lot by strange hybrid monsters.
Daryl enjoys sex but normally for one night, so when his mom and Cyn's parents meet and see what's happening they hint very loudly for wedding bells.
The romance is great but also the mystery behind Bittech grows

It's review time 🎧
Warning ⚠️ : paranormal romance

Narrator score🎧 ; the Narrator is very good, she can change voices very well.

Level of anxiety and sadness0😱😢: this book isn't sad but it definitely had more feelings than the first book in the series.

The book itself📖: in all honesty I didn't came to this book with any expectations because of the first book in the series but this book was marginally better than the first one you could understand and feel both characters better then in the first book and the fact that the Paranormal animal was more in tune with the main character and it was much much more better

Kitty cats are the best at aloofness, unfortunately Darrell keeps slipping up on that fact. It doesn’t take long for Cynthia to get his number though, and maybe nudge those slips along. This is an unlikely, almost, buddy comedy at times, and a zany rom-com at others, but these two certainly keep things interesting. They really have no choice as things keep coming after them, interrupting all those sexy starts!

You know what you're getting with Eve Langlais' books- often a mystery plot with a jump straight into sex at bad times. There's no depth in Cynthia and Daryl's relationship. It goes flirting-sex-love. I don't even mind insta-love with shapeshifter mates, but this was a lot even for that trope. The plot is a series long one, there's a lot of action in this book but not that much in the actual overall story.

The Mystery Deepens

Book 2 was just as exciting as Book 1. Something is going on in this shifter town and eventually they will figure out exactly who is involved. In the meantime shifters are quickly finding their mates and narrowly avoiding death. The plot is starting to seem very familiar so I keep reading because each writer puts a different spin in it!

great humour!

One of the standouts of Panther’s Claim was the humour that popped into the story, often unexpectedly. Cynthia and Daryl are fantastic characters and the relationship they build is full of sparks. There’s still plenty of mystery that’s getting deeper. In all a most enjoyable read!

Eve Langlais books always deliver a good dose of heat and humor. This book was no exception! Daryl was a great alpha male character, but it took me a while to warm up to Cynthia. She was so contradictory and I’m not sure I like these two together, but the overall story worked. I look forward to my next visit to Bitten Point!

Well worth the read!

I wasn’t even sure if I would enjoy this series as I don’t like reptiles at all. But Eve Langlais doesn’t disappoint! I had bought the first book in the series out of curiosity, and then I just HAD to read the other 3 books because the first book was THAT GOOD! I highly recommend this book and the entire series!

Good Story!!

I absolutely loved this one. I didn’t read the first Bitten Point book but I will now and then read the rest of the series. Loved the characters and storyline so much. When they found the body at the B&B for sure I thought the son that died was going to be the one in the tunnel with Cyn. I was wrong. On to the first one. 🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜😊😊😊

Cynthia is hilarious and so is Daryl. Her little insecurity thing turned out to be so cute. I love that she was a woman who could still be girly and not all bad ass. Not everyone is some secret ninja.
