Looking for a cozy, homemade soup recipe now that winter is here? Have family members that have allergies, or have them yourself? This cookbook has over a hundred recipes of enticing soups. There is something for every soup lover! None of the recipes look too intimidating or time consuming, and I especially liked that this cookbook listed if each recipe was gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, paleo, paleo-friendly, fix-and-forget (can be done in a slow cooker), and/or "big 8 allergy friendly." Tips and nutrition information are also provided.

I love delicious homemade soup!

This cookbook has it all: fresh ingredients, great flavors, easy to follow recipes, and variations for gluten-free, paleo, vegetarian, vegan (needed in my household!) I enjoyed the simple, honest writing and styling, including the nutritional breakdowns. I really respect that the author makes these wonderful soups day-in and day-out for her family, so the recipes are well-tested. No need to impress - just "come and get it" goodness!

I can’t wait to try all the different recipes in this book! The recipes are easy and likely very forgiving. Glad I picked up this one.

Great down to earth book on Soups

I initially borrowed from my library. I enjoyed the book and will use the recipes so I purchased the kindle version. Kindle version is well laid out and had links to recipes so it is quick to navigate
One recipe I have never seen is the Parmesan broth. I have used the same technique to use the rinds as I hate to throw them away. I soak them in cold water and use the broth and the soften rinds in my soups. Adds lots of flavour and the softened rinds melt into the broth.

I enjoyed reading through the recipes and learning how different ingredients were combined for flavors that I would not have tried. I earmarked at least 15 recipes. Black Bean Enchilada, Lemon Scented Orzo & Chicken with Spinach, Curried Sweet Potato, Indian Chicken in spiced Coconut Milk, etc.

Variety of flavors from not-complicated ingredients list, and easy suggestions for allergy swaps. Chapters divided logically with an all-you-need-to-start introduction. Excellent reference book for the new home cook.

A collection of simple, basic soups. The author follows a paleo diet, her spouse is vegetarian, and apparently her kids are allergic to a bunch of stuff, but there's still soups listed with meat, dairy, wheat, etc. Each recipe has labels at the top that indicate whether any of the special diets apply. It seems a little silly to me since most people who claim they need a special diet should be able to tell whether a soup has eggs, wheat, dairy, etc., but the labeling will probably make the special dietary people happy.

There is a section for cold soups, which might be nice come triple digit temps. A lot of soup books forget to include those.

The Kindle edition navigates well. Recipes for each section are listed with links at the beginning of each section, so you don't have to scroll around trying to locate a specific recipe. The recipes themselves seem OK, at least I didn't notice any glaring problems with measurements or instructions. There are some pictures, maybe two dozen. Again, it's soup, not rocket science so it's perfectly understandable that they didn't go to the expense of photographing every single recipe. We've all seen soup. We should have the idea. Besides, the recipes are not that complex.

Usually I try to cook a few recipes before rating a cookbook, but I just didn't see much in here that intrigued me or that I felt required a recipe. Soup is one of those things I tend to cook intuitively, so maybe I'm just the wrong market for this level of hand-holding. . I guess for the absolute beginner cook, it would be helpful.
