The Charlie Small Journal #2

The Perfumed Pirates of Perfidy

Rate this book
Charlie Small’s second journal of his adventures was found encased in ice, high on a glacial plateau in the Himalayas. It details even more remarkable deeds and thrilling acts aboard the Jolly Roger with the dastardly lady-pirates of perfidy–and a lot more besides. Charlie Small is a keen amateur explorer. His interests include climbing trees, collecting things, playing computer games, and football. He also enjoys conversing in the secret language of the gorillas. His present whereabouts is unknown, but we understand that he’s hoping to be home in time for tea.

Second journal of the “amazing, astonishing, incredible and true adventures” of Charlie Small begins where book one ended with Charlie’s capture by a band of female pirates. Throughout the story Charlie continues his quick thinking ways to conquer a giant sea slug, sink two pirate ships, and rescue the captain by making a kite from a giant leaf. All before finally escaping himself and being carried off to his next adventure by a puffer-fish balloon. As in the first book the fantasy world of Charlie Small is a bit outrageous with a predictable plot more than a few amusing black & white drawings.

I think that this book is really good, not the best but good. It was enjoyable, even though he had to live with females.

I read these books to my class, 6-9 year olds. All the students love it! Many went to find other sequels. Really great for reluctant readers
