Firstly, it's been a pleasure to virtually travel through the USA via this wonderful Americana series. These have been my constant companion in these times, especially in the last two months when things have gone bonkers worldwide. I've been working non stop and coming back to this series has saved me from insanity, allowing me to relax after 40 hour shifts- thank you Ms Dailey!
That being said, I did not like this book because of the heroine. A whiny, judgmental shrew who makes a wrong decision, and then suddenly becomes a know it all about the male gender. She decides that her widowed sister is being "misused" by a close friend, and takes it upon herself to discourage him, despite him doing NOTHING wrong. She suddenly yearns for him, he tries to make her jealous using her sister, another man likes her sister- but she rejects him, her ex returns, then there's this weird foursome between them, the heroine assumes a lot and spends all the time being a shrill crybaby who acts like a bitch 24x7, while simultaneously crying for the hero's "love". Thank god, the torture ended.
I did not enjoy this but will definitely miss the series.
Everyone here is unlikable. The h is immature and stupid. (Seriously, there’s no other way to describe her. She’s an idiot.) The H is also an idiot, because he falls in love with her. Her sister, the OW, is incredibly smart, because somehow she manages to have everyone treat her like a fragile, hothouse flower. She knows how to manipulate men big-time. The H will always be a lesser woman than her sister, the long-suffering beauty, and I am sure that the H will continue to give her sister precedence.

Not hot and steamy in the least, it's a wonderfully romantic book that kept me tuned in until the last page. Sadly this meant staying up until 1:30 in the morning on a work night. The heroine was a bit too bitchy most of the time but she was still likable enough. It's understandable she was to have a chip on her shoulder, but the motivation for this could have been more dramatic. Having one man be that way isn't the end of the world, except to her apparently. How she treated Logan much of the time was fun to read but not entirely easy to emphasize with. What I could understand was when she fell in love with him and realized it, but thought he was looking elsewhere, and then kept up the bitchy persona. Trust me, I can be a man's worst nightmare in those situations as well.
I really loved the 'hero' of the book, from this dominating attitude, to his temper, to his tenderness. I can't blame Jennifer for falling in love with him. The side romance angle between the sister and Dirk was also sweet. As an older Presents, there's no sex, but you'll just have to let the imagination kick in. I'm grateful Dailey didn't spend paragraphs throughout the story focusing on the sheer, unrealistic beauty of everyone. (A pet peeve).
Editing must not have been done well, as I found at least 8 spelling errors and it did irritate me there was little seperation when the story shifted. As an example, she would be talking about having lunch with Brad, then the next paragraph would turn out being the next day. No line seperating it, no symbol, nada. It grew confusing. I had planned to find the exact section in the book where the editing was the worst, but I can't locate it now. It had three of the same lines written in a row, joined with the wrong lines! Oh well,
A very feel-good story that isn't mushy and the characters aren't eye-roll inducing. (Thank God) The scene with the two in the kitchen toward the end - hot stuff in an innocent way. As always Daily writes well and to the point, devoid of annoying padding. If you see this one around, do yourself a favor and pick it up.
What a terrible story this was! I tried to make allowances for it being dated but that didn't make up for the fact that the heroine was the most obnoxious non-villainous character I've read in a long time! She was immature, bitchy, and rude with the hero turning every single encounter into a major misunderstanding. She was petty, jealous and underhanded with her sister, upset because of her own mistaken assumptions. Here's an idea: why don't you talk to your sister and ask her what's going on? She didn't seem to have one single redeeming feature and we are supposed to believe that the hero and heroine fell in love! When!?! Over a sleigh ride (which she ended up ruining - surprise, surprise) or maybe it was the fruit basket? All I know is that whiny, crazy, brat didn't deserve jade, take it back and run for your life, and if your thinking of reading this book I'd advise you to do the same! I wish I could...
Darling Jenny is a lovely title for a romance novel, but Dreary Jenny would've been more appropriate. While the holiday, Wyoming setting has its snowy charms, the constantly irritated leading man and wildly self involved heroine don't...
This is one of those romances where if the characters would only communicate, talk to each other, so much unhappiness and jealousy could have been avoided. Jennifer and her sister are supposedly close, so why did Jennifer just assume that Sheila and Logan had something going on, even while Logan was obviously pursuing Jennifer? Why wouldn't Jennifer ask her sister, as soon as she met Logan and saw how close Sheila and Logan were, why wouldn't she ask her sister about him? But no, she had to wallow in her love and misery until literally the last three pages of the book. But then I guess if she and her sister had ever actually talked, the book would have been a short story instead of 183 pages.
