World War III was just practice for what's coming. And even those who survived the original firestorm-like John Thomas Rourke-won't have a chance when the next round of carnage begins. But Rourke, the ex-CIA Covert Operations Officer, weapons specialist and survival expert didn't struggle to stay alive in this brutal world only to die in a final holocaust of fire and blood. As six nuclear missiles are poised to start the ultimate conflagration, Rourke's constant quest for his wife and son becomes a desperate mission to save both his family and all humanity from being blasted into extinction. If he should fail, no man will ever walk the earth again-not even... THE SURVIVALIST.

The Prophet (The Survivalist #7) by Jerry Ahern is very manly and action packed like the previous installments of this post-apocalyptic action series has been. That said it's all starting to wear thin for me. I don't think I'll be back for the rest of the series - I just don't care what's going to happen to these characters and what kind of mayhem they will no doubt be right in the middle of in the future.

So much misogyny and torture.. apparently men are “natural leaders” and women always look their most beautiful during shoot outs.

The Survivalist series trucks ever onwards; with the previous book setting up the events of The Prophet. Thanks to that, I found this one to be more enjoyable than Savage Hoard. John, Natalia, and Paul are tasked with retrieving some nuclear missiles from an Air Force Base. They quickly learn that the missiles are further inland, past the Wild Men led by an enigmatic Prophet. We also get more of John's family; which actually was a decent subplot this time around.

Overall if you've stuck with the Survivalist this long; you'll find this to be on the more enjoyable side of the series. There was one character who was written to be overtly racist; which felt hamfisted at times. The only thing that stood out to me in this pulpy, 80s post-apocalyptic read.

Wayward nukes! Post-apocalyptic racists! Evil KGB plots! Airplanes! Submarines! And still too much time on Rourke's stupid family. Not good, not bad. I have to say, when it comes to writing action scenes, Ahern certainly is no REH.

This is my favorite adventure series. Dr John Thomas Rourke leads his family and friends through a post apocalyptic world fighting ever step if the way. Fantastic characters and plots. Very detailed weapon descriptions. Excellent series. My highest recommendation
