Exorcists Rokuro and Benio unleash serious supernatural action while purifying the world of monsters.
The “Twin Star Exorcists” are fated to produce the child prophesied to end the war with the monstrous Kegare… But can Rokuro and Benio get along for five minutes, let alone save the world?
Benio and Rokuro are locked in a life-and-death battle with Benio’s evil brother Yuto. Will the Twin Star Exorcists ever reach Tsuchimikado Island, the headquarters of the Exorcist Association and the front lines of the bitter struggle against the Kegare…?
A lot of things happen in his volume mostly to do with character development. There are a lot of flashbacks to when Rokuro was a kid and in training. The only disappointing point here is that they don't use the typical manga device of bordering the pages in black when we are looking at stories/scenes from the past so it got a bit confusing at times as to whether we were reading the past or present. However, Benio and Rokuro's relationship has changed drastically. Benio seems to genuinely be falling in love and committed to marrying and having the promised child. On the other hand, Rokuro seems to want to finish all the challenges before their child is born so as not to birth a child with a prophecy. This causes doubt on whether Rokuro is serious about Benio.
YES THE BIG BATTLE! Oh it was so good to finally go up against Yuto, and learning about all the deception he fed Benio :( I love this girl so much, she's gone through an insane amount and I feel for her! I need her HEA!
This volume felt like the missing link for the anime. It spent a good portion focusing on Roku's past, as well as hinting to his future. I hope we get to see more of Mayura interacting with the twin-stars; I really love their dynamic.
You know what? I'm going to ignore the bland introduction to the four Twelve Guardians introduced in this volume, the two year time skip at the end, and discovering that Rokuro has amnesia of the first eight years of his life, because this volume was FUCKING AWESOME! The finale to Benio and Rokuro's fight with Yuto was bad-ass and Rokuro calling out Arima's bullshit about letting his and Benio's prophesied child fight their battle for them was incredible and so mature! Rokuro may not be my favorite shounen protagonist, but I love him so much! And, lest we forget, Seigen the teacher-dad returned! And it was glorious! And, and, Benio and Rokuro spending time together at the summer festival and Rokuro giving her a gift, and oh my gosh I just love this series so much! Excuse me, I'm just gonna go cry such happy, happy tears, because damn I love this series!
The continuing effective blending of action and humor works again in Yoshiaki's fifth volume of the series.
The Twin Stars show some growth after all their work last volume, and it displays in the battle the opens the volume. Then the flashback material dealing with Rokuro continue to deepen him as a character and a mystery, and to wander off in directions that I wasn't expecting, which is always really cool. Benio doesn't get the personal attention from the explicit plot that Rokuro does here, but her "show don't tell" characterization as she interacts with other characters, especially Rokuro does just as much, if not more to effectively build her character.
In the quest to prove that this series isn't a total cliche, we reveal that the protagonist has amnesia! Wow shocker this is so innovative. Oh and he walks in on Benio naked again. Benio is naked a lot, pretty weird. Why are there so many scenes of this 14-year-old naked? Not even suggestive, full frontal nudity. I don't get it. Why is this so common? Kind of creepy.
Good ending to this volume, at least. The last four or five pages are pretty good. It's the whole "anime opening where everyone is running nowhere particular for no reason" but in a MANGA?? Wow that's a spark of creativity, truly blending genres together here.
This manga is moving pretty quickly now. Rokuro gets a Super Saiyajin form for the fight against Yuto, and the last chapter in the volume (Chapter 18) ends with a two-year timeskip. Which means we're (probably) out of the weird-lookin' proportions the Twin Star Exorcists have had so far!
Best chapter here is the first part of the flashback. Somewhat wholesome.

Still enjoying the story. The platform I'm reading on goes by chapters instead of volumes, so I'm not always sure when I've finished a volume. It hasn't thrown me off yet, so I'll keep reading!
And the horrible fight continues. The twin stars are fighting her brother, with glimpses of the other characters, who have no idea what the twin stars are doing. We also get a look into Rokuro’s past, what happened at the orphanage, and what happened when he met Yuto for the first time. It’s sad, but it does make me love Ryogo a whole bunch more.
The fight is bad. Horribly painful for everyone involved. And then we move on, where the twin stars have to face the consequences for fighting Yuto in secret. I’m intrigued by Seigen now, and find Mayura to be a sweet girl. There’s a time skip at the end of the volume, it looks like, which makes sense as the two gain a lot of experience and tone their skills.
I’m intrigued to see what happens next. I am slowly following with this series, and do like reading the new volumes.
