Edge of Obsession

Tyr, a powerful man in a ravaged world, needs only three things to survive:

His weapons.
Basic resources.
A rotation of eager women who can give him the kind of down and dirty sex he needs.

But when a beautiful prisoner grabs his attention during a mission to restock his clan’s supplies, Tyr’s alpha instincts give way to something much darker–strong, unquenchable craving that cannot be ignored…or denied.

After two years on the run, Helena is snared by this powerful clan of hardware-wielding, tattooed, steel-eyed raider warriors who roam the land unchallenged. Strong to her core and with a mission of her own, Helena knows she doesn’t have to be their captive for long.

However, despite all the terrible things she’s heard about these brutal beasts, Helena is overcome by intense desire for the one ruthless man who has taken her. As their passion escalates, Helena will have to trust in Tyr in order to save both what’s left of this desolate, torn-up world…and herself.

"Clan now. Clan first. Clan forever."
description

Edge of Obsession is a Paranormal Romance with a dark and dominant alpha and a spunky heroine that when put together cause an explosion of lust, power, and love!

description

In Edge of Obsession, the world is not as we know it. Storms have caused mayhem and destruction. People have found refuge in whatever way they can. Helena has a secret. It is one that she is willing to die for in order to protect. While trying to survive, a vigilante group of clansmen enter the scene and Helena discovers a way of escape.
"My cock is a privilege, not an obligation to suffer through. You'll get it when you beg me for it, not before."-Tyr
Tyr is the war chief of his clan. Loyal to his king, brothers, and blood thirsty for revenge against his enemies, he is isn't afraid of anyone or anything. When Helena challenges him, he doesn't waste any time deciding to take her captive and bring her back with him to his homeland.
"She'd had no idea anything like this had survived the Storms, much less was inhabited~and clearly had been for a long time."-Helena
description

While traveling by sea back the clan, Helena and Tyr begin a delicate dance of seduction. This world is so new to Helena. Although she is not a virgin, she has been raised to believe that the purpose of sex is for procreation. Finding pleasure with a man is unknown territory for her. In stark contrast, the men of the clan are raw and ravish the women in their possession. Once a man of many pleasures, throughout the journey home, Tyr finds himself unusually attached to Helena.
"You have one option, Helena. Me. If I were you, I'd hurry up and get on board with that."-Tyr
description

Helena is strong willed and dedicated to her purpose and yet, Tyr is nothing like she has ever experienced before. He dominates her. He captivates her. Despite her stubbornness, she cannot help but comply to his every whim.
"It blew her up. It slammed through her, burning her alive, and all she could do was wrap her arms around him and hold on tight."-Helena
description

As the first book in the Edge of Series, Edge of Obsession is sure to be a crowd pleaser for Paranormal Romance fans. Told in dual POV, the writing was rich in detail and the tempo was well paced throughout the read. As with most paranormal work, it takes a bit of time to fully understand the workings of this world and fully embrace the plight of the characters. The characters were quite unique and the action packed plot was truly engaging! The lifestyle of the clan is focused on action and passion! Add those two elements to a group of sexy warriors and satisfaction is guaranteed!
"Everyone needs help sometimes, asshole. No one sails a ship alone."-Tyr
description
"He was the whole world to her then. Always, something whispered, more in her heart than in her head."-Helena
description

Overall, I highly recommend Edge of Obsession! This was my first Megan Crane read and I am certainly looking forward to reading more! There are quite a few members of the Clan that I look forward to exploring!

Wow, what a read! This was something completely else from what I usually read, and let me tell you I don't regret it one bit! The story is a mix of dystopia and freaking vikings, I kid you not. It's genious!
Just for all the yummy men I'd buy this book. ;)

description

I honestly don't know where to start. This story is so amazing but at the same time it can be quite disturbing, to some at least (me included). The world as we know it is gone. On one side you have viking alike men that live in a world where a hint of technology still survived the bed times. Men that follow no rules or laws but their own and men who know how to please women and women who definitely know (or learn) how to please men. On the other side you have a world, where most women are basically degraded to being nothing more than baby making objects. A world, where sex is not meant for pleasure, only for repruduction. But what they all have in common is a world with no government or human rights. Those with most power are the rulers (self announced kings) and law makers, all rulers of small teritories that always hunger for more.
And you can guess what happened once those 'two worlds' crashed. You got it, an explosion that definitely changed both Tyr and Helena's lives.

description

description

This book is filthy, filthy sexy!!! I don't remember ever reading a story like that. And I read a lot! There were scenes that I just had to take breaks from and completelly stop reading. Let me tell you, Helena may come from a world where sex is nothing but a chore but underneath all that, she's a heck of a vixen (that likes to watch - a lot)! Not that Tyr is any better. Boy, those two really know how to burn the pages, uff. ;)

Of course their relationship starts with
description

But we all know how their story is supposed to end.
description

Tyr is this big brute that starts to soften up with Helen and she is definitely someone who lets you know her opinion loud and clear. And that more often than not brings her into trouble. Only this time her trouble comes in a form of this sexy, broody and super protective piece of a man.
They have some ups and downs but at the end of the day, nothing can stop them from being together. Not the new life style, mistrust, weak relatives or even demons from their pasts. And what doesn't decide to leave peacefully, well...let's just say that Tyr knows how to make it leave.

Ferranti had hurt her.
He did it again, yanking on Helena’s arm so hard she went up on her toes—
So Tyr cut the little bitch’s hand right off.
One clean stroke. Problem solved.

All I can say is, this book is awesome! And you should go and buy it! ...Now! :D

Safety-gang: Not sure, if it's a clean safe or more of a safe-with-exception.

Parts of this book were interesting and showed promise but some of the premise behind the world didn't make sense. So the world was flooded by these crazy storms generations ago and civilization broke down and there doesn't seem to be any type of a normal government or much communication between different lands - yet supposedly all the "mainlanders" have rigid rules about sex and religion - this just didn't add up in any way for me. I think the author just wanted to contrast the free sex ways of the raiders with everyone else and made them all prudes that can't enjoy sex. I seriously doubt that if society broke down everyone everywhere would have similar beliefs.

Now onto my other big issues: the book focused way too much on the sex lives of the raiders. I swear we were told in detail more about other people having sex than the actual hero and heroine. The constant focus on telling us all about the crazy sex the raiders like to have got kind of boring actually.

Now onto the strange quest the heroine and her family were on for generations: to hook up power plants with her old tablet computer. Say what? Really? That is her quest? How can it seriously take her family generations to do a task? Why is that so important? It just wasn't explained well and didn't make sense.

There were some bright spots. Sometimes the story was interesting and I liked parts of the romance, it just felt very rushed at the end. The story premise was unique, the world just needs thought through a bit more. I may try the next book, I will wait to see what the reviews look like.

I loved so much about this book.

Edge of Obsession is set in a dystopian world where everything in the Book of Revelations (yes, that book from the bible) has happened. Ya know, earthquakes and mass floods and all those terrible things, save a horseman or four. What survivors there were have formed new societies. The rich have proclaimed themselves kings and use religion to yield power. The currency of choice? Electricity. Priests and kings would have the world believe that electricity is a thing that only they can give.

I really don’t know how to even classify this book. Is it futuristic dystopia, historical barbarian, pirate erotica? I don’t know. All I know is that the author created an amazing world in which all of these elements collide. It’s an amazing hybrid of historical and futuristic with elements that are still so relevant in contemporary society.

Our heroine, Helena, is plucked from one world, where religion rules, enjoying sex is a sin and women are used as breeding factories to repopulate the world, and thrust into Tyr’s world which is somewhat of a socialist society where violence and chaos seemingly rules and sex is for enjoyment. When these two worlds collide I thought there was some brilliant commentary or patriarchal societies, women’s roles in society and the enjoyment of sex and the judgment thereof. I was absolutely enamoured by this world the author created, but you don’t really care about all that do you?

You just wanna hear about all the sex and romance!

Well, as Tyr abducted Helena from her compliant world, he realises that she’s keeping secrets and while trying to gain her trust and figure out if she’s friend or enemy we are treated to a smorgasbord or eroticism. This book had it all; campfire orgies, DP, voyeurism, exhibitionism, anal and some slight BDSM. Tyr was a complete and utter dick to Helena ninety percent of the time and it became a bit stifling (I loved hating this man) but their romance does have some moments of tenderness and Tyr redeems himself slightly as their romance begins to evolve into something deeper. Probably because Tyr was such a huge asshole and he was confused about whether Helena could be trusted, the sexual tension and angst carried on to moments even after they first together.

The Edge of Obsession is filled with extremely interesting secondary characters, sub plots and banter between the modern day Viking band of brothers and the sex is extremely hot. It’s set on the background of a very creative and beautifully described world and even though I had my issues with Tyr, I feel like even that had its place in this book. So I can’t call this book dystopian or historical and I can’t say that this is a sweet little romance but it had everything from action and suspense, to some very erotic sexy times and a bit of mysticism, philosophy and commentary on society and religion and I can definitely recommend reading it.

Well...isn't this the biggest fuckfest ever?!

Don't get me wrong, this book is well written, it is NOT bad, but I guess its just one of those times "it's me ,not you" problem.

What I didn't liked about the story:
10% world building and plot
10% dialogue
80% SEX and MONOLOGUE

What bothered me was the fact that I couldn't pay attention to the awesome sex happening because of the useless monologue happening all the time.
Example: The MC are having sex , she sucks his dick, takes that big head in her mouth and than lingers there like that for 3 pages having an inner monologue , and after 3 pages the author comes back from it and continues the play.Well let me tell you, when you are having sex you don't spend 3 pages thinking about all and everything. My point is the moment passes and I can't get invested in the scene if it jumps from being smoking hot to some stupid God knows what thoughts.
The conflicted thoughts they both have (not shared by normal communication obviously , but in their head) are sooo exhausting. You like eachother, you like to fuck? Who the fuck gives a damn?

Ah... the sex and orgies are like your regular everyday meal in this book. They do it all the time!!

I can't believe I'm saying this, considering I LOVE smut in my books, but was a little to much at times, just orgies everywhere and no action, no engaging plot at all.

I didn't fully understood what was with starting the electricity and all tbh..didn't seem so important to me..I found this plot lacking...

Anywasy..here we have a proper definition of the big BJ.
“That’s called a blow job,” Tyr informed her helpfully. “Or sucking cock. Or dick sucking. Or face fucking, to be technical, the way Jurin likes to do it.”

My response would have been:

I give it 2.5/3 stars since is have to admit was hot most of the time.

Very slow read, but when it wasn't I couldn't flip pages fast enough. I was prepared to give it 3 stars until the last three/four chapters. There's plenty of action and smoking hot bedroom scenes (and not in the bedroom).

Tyr is a very yummy "Viking" and Helena was slightly annoying. She had major trust issues, and I really wanted to smack her upside the head multiple times. There was a bad guy taken care of but plenty of more Vikings to get HEAs.

“Tell me how to beg,” she said, as if she thought he might deny her. Then she sat forward on the bench across from him like she wanted him to teach her a lesson.

He could do that. He could certainly do that.

“For what?” He sounded the way he should, distant and forbidding, which was at complete odds with that wild riot inside of him. “What do you want?”

“You,” Helena said. He didn’t imagine it. It wasn’t just his dick getting delusional. And she kept going. “I want to beg you, Tyr. The way you told me I would.”

He let himself smile. Dark and triumphant, as if his cock wasn’t a little too close to outright agony at this point. As if he’d never had the slightest doubt.

And in that moment, he didn’t care why she was doing it. Or why he was. Enemy, friend—it no longer mattered.

“Don’t worry, baby,” he told her, reaching for her at last. At last. “It’ll come to you. I promise.”

3.25-3.50 RATING-Confession: I should say right from the start, I probably am not the target market for a dystopian romance. That’s just not normally my thing. I’m more contemporary romance or romantic suspense. After reading the blurb for Edge of Obsession though and being in the mood for a Caveman/Alpha type hero, I decided to give it a shot.

The beginning actually started a bit rocky for me. I wasn’t immediately pulled in and the story was hard for me to get engaged with. Around the 20-30% mark, things picked up a bit and I was interested to see where the story was going. I’m not sure the story ever really fully grabbed me unfortunately. I wish the heroine and hero would have joined forces earlier than they actually did. She had some secrets, he couldn’t trust her… it just kept things simmering a bit too long for me.

One thing that did definitely work were the steamy parts. It’s surprising because I wouldn’t say that this book is overly explicit compared to what I normally read but something about how the sexy parts were written worked for me in a big way. They were definitely HOT and kept me reading even when I felt the rest of the story was just so-so.

Overall, I’m not sure I got the book I totally wanted with this read but I did discover a "new to me author" I play to read again. I think readers that are a bit more comfortable with world building and dystopian type plots would likely enjoy this one.

This is one of those books that I thought would piss me off because the lead male was such a man whore, well slap me round the chops for jumping to that conclusion too quickly. Tyr was the definition of an alpha male. A bit of a cave man with a hidden softness and lots of hard muscle. And oh boy did that man make me hot and bothered!

"A man had only what he could take with his hands and kept only what he could protect with the steel of his blade."

This was a slightly different read for me - a dystopian world, with high handed kings who use 'religion' to take what they please, raiders who appear to be cold hearted killers and women who are little more than breeding machines. I loved the world Megan Crane created in this book. It drew me in and I could picture it exactly in my mind. It was a mix of Mad Max and something from the viking era.

On top of the setting the steam in this had me using 2 words I hate!
HORNY and MOIST this made me both! It was hot. Especially the beach bonfire scene and then the celebration in the hall. I was a big smouldering puddle on the floor.

description

"He already knew she liked it when he told her what to do. Now he knew she liked being pinned down while she was filled with his cock, the as she'd liked it when he was licking her cunt."

And it was witty, Tyr's voice had me snickering to myself.

"What did he care about repopulating the earth when there was so much pussy on tap and all of it hot and sweet and his whenever the hell he wanted it?"

I will admit it did drag in several parts and there could have been more action but it was a good start for a series and it was hot, plus it is completely safe in regards of cheating/OW etc.

This story takes place in a post apocalyptic world, one in which people have been reduced to a medieval like existence (though still with some traces of modern technology such as highly prized electricity). Helena has the daunting task of generations before her, carrying a secret that could change the entire power structure of the world she lives in (both literally and figuratively). Chased by mercenaries, she thinks she's found a man who can help her in her quest. Tyr is a war chief, a Raider, a man used to taking what he wants, when he wants it. When Helena provokes him, taking her captive is the easy part. The hard part will be gaining her trust - and as the clock ticks, her betrayal could cost them all.

I really enjoyed this story! The world building is excellent, reminiscent of old school historical romances with marauding clansmen. I appreciated the fact that it didn't have paranormal elements- no zombies present here. Tyr and Helena were both appealing characters to me, with Tyr as the classic alpha male and Helena as a driven woman, desperate to do whatever is necessary to save the people. The sex in this story is dirty, dirty, dirty! Fans of the Beyond series by Kit Rocha will find themselves in good company here, with voyeurism, exhibitionism, and menage scenes (though Tyr and Helena don't add any partners). While some of the consent is a bit dubious (I mean, you're a captive to a large, dangerous, incredibly sexy man - what are the odds you're going to refuse him?) the participants all seem quite willing. The story moves at a good pace, and though there is a happy ending for the couple in question, the overall story arc will continue into the next book in the series. Very enjoyable, and I'm looking forward to more in this erotic dystopian world.

This book started out with a bang for me. I mean, Vikings! Heck yes! A dominant alpha hero plus off the chart hot sex and I thought I’d hit the motherlode. It seemed I was going to get an action packed, hotter than Hades adventure with damsels in distress and did I mention the hot Vikings? Then it fizzled.

Helena, our little heroine, came from a family with one mission – turn the lights back on in the post-apocalyptic world. It was a mission that had been handed down for several generations. She needed to get to a power station in the Catskills. Unfortunately, Helena was a wimp and her family mission never added up to me. You’d think after several generations the family could have figured out how to get to the Catskills even if they had to walk the whole freaking way. Plus, with such an important mission evidently the thought of learning how to protect themselves never crossed their minds. Due to this oversight, Helena is alone in the world with her horribly selfish sister after their family is killed by the mercenary, Krajic, who’s hell bent on stopping the power from turning on.

I wanted a tough heroine. She needed to be to survive in this post-apocalyptic world and Helena was not. She was constantly inside her own head, never made a decision without second-guessing herself, and always ended up reacting instead of acting. It was off-putting.

As for Tyr, when I first started reading, I thought I was getting the Viking version of Reaper’s Property’s hero Horse. Alpha bad boy personified. Yum. Unfortunately, as the book progressed he spent so much time in his own head being wishy washy about what he wanted to do about Helena, I got a tad bit annoyed with him.

There were bright spots that gave me hope. The story line could have been awesome with the whole save the world, bed the Vikings thing it had going on. I really liked how the camp girls were. They respected themselves and the people around them. They were friendly and helpful, no backstabbers in sight. It was refreshing after so many biker books with club whores I’ve read lately. I also loved some of the characters we met along the way, like Wulf, the Viking King. Yum.

So my conundrum is, I’m fascinated by the thought of these characters and the story as a whole, but the wordiness and constant inner musings of the main characters completely frustrated me no end. This is the second book I’ve read by this author that showed great promise but then didn’t pan out for me. I think I’ll have to pass on anymore.

Spice’s Rating: 3 Frustrated Stars.

I just couldn't really get into this. I liked the idea and plot, but the heroine wasn't my favorite character.

Tyr, on the other hand, was absolutely delicious. How can I say no to a sexy warrior that can kill people with one swing?

I think I would of rated this higher if the story didn't drag so much. Even though this wasn't a complete win for me, I am excited to start Edge of Temptation.

Helena has been running with the intent of not being caught, she never expected to be captured by Raiders. It didn't help that she couldn't stop herself from putting up a fight and capturing the interest of Tyr.

The world now is all about women serving as a winter wife, used to conceive before being sent to the next man if they don't succeed. Helena is not thrilled with what is expected, and she has her own reasons for not wanting to be apart of it. Tyr calls to her though and doesn't let up about his interest in her. Helena is at a crossroads while Tyr struggles with what he is feeling towards Helena, is she just one of many?

Intriguing story. I thought this whole concept was fascinating. Liked Tyr, he is not overly warm and fuzzy but sometimes you sense a softer side to his gruff demeanor. Helena is a fighter, once you uncover her reasons behind what she has done you are cheering her on. Great read.

3.5 "more fuckery, less dystopia" stars

It started off good, really good...then it became a fuckfest (which i had no objections to, at first...duh?!)

But when that gets so frequent your eyes start to hurt, and sight is blurred from sexed up imagery and then you start to feel bored, you know there s smth wrong...with you, i mean me?!

Or the essence of the story?! Is there an essence to the story...

Fuck, if i know!

But of course there is, silly me, it s right there in between the lines, all the sex seemed to shadowed it somehow!

And it s about trust above all, in the story, so i trust to have a common sense and not dwell too much on why i havent seen "the fuckin essence" way before 80% of the book?!

I knew the lyrics of that Queen's song had to make an impact, yeah...
"Too much "love" will kill you..."

Or at least, in my case, blur the fuckin lines...

I read a lot of quick outlaw romances, but this one is the best, hands down. I've seen some people complain about the main character's motivation, however this is the kind of book I talk about when I say I will forgive plot stuff if the characters are done well and y'all.... Helena's quest may have seemed silly, and there were a lot of holes in the dystopian aspect, but I believed in her urgency and most importantly, I wouldn't have cared much about it anyways because I was 1000% here for the romance because the way those author conveyed their emotions had me sucked in, face 2 inches away from my tablet, reading so fast that I had to go back and reread some sentences over and over again. And some I read over and over again because I enjoyed them so much.

Keep in mind, I found his book in an erotica section with a BDSM tag, so I expected the copious amounts of sex. In any outlaw type romance novels there's usually a LOT of sex. Just saying. That said, I just really love how well written this book is.

This is the kind of emotion portrayal that I crave in my romances. This is the kind of writing that I'm talking about when I say I want to believe in the tension and passion between the two (or more) main characters.

Despite the BDSM tag, it's what I would call BDSM lite. Some control aspects in the romance that have more to do with the society having some patriarchal themes tied in to the fact that the men are vikings, but nothing formal and it doesn't dominate the sex scenes. Tyr is in control, but it doesn't get 50 Shades and whatever punishments Helena earned are alluded to but handled off screen. And they sound more like they were funishments anyway.

Half star docked because in the beginning the male posturing from Tyr during the raids was hard to swallow and induced a lot of eye rolling. After the raid the "look at these puny punk ass bitches....all these punk bitches are inferior to me." type exaggerated alpha statements came down a lot. Those statements scared me at first and made me think it was going to be more of the same shenanigans that I usually see with outlaw type characters when they're written in a way that makes it look like the author doesn't know how to make them come off as cocksure and badass except to make it so extreme that it's corny and annoying.

I might skip the 2nd book because I don't like Gunnar's character so much. Not sure yet.

I first read this authors writing in Make You Burn, The Deacons of Bourbon Street, and loved her writing. I was fortunate to pick this book up via the publisher/NetGalley for an honest review. I am so glad that I found this book and I voraciously read every single page without skipping any pages. Considering the book is quite long, that is something that seldom happens. I usually get bored with longer books and skip paragraphs and/or pages. This author’s writing, the story, and the characters kept me glued to the story. I loved the vivid, descriptive pictures the author brought to life in my mind and the three dimensional characters were riveting.

Edge of Obsession is a post-apocalyptic tale of the earth after the world, as we know, it is destroyed by water. The survivors live in groups, usually atop mountains, and of course there are the "Raiders", who really are new world Vikings, who sail to the other regions, pillaging and taking prisoners. The warlord of the raiders, Tyr, is so damn hot I think I melted. The “brotherhood” is made up of totally hot, alpha males who are loyal to their clan and each other before anything else. The heroine, Helena, is at times strong and other times weak. The love between Tyr and Helena is developed slowly, always keeping you on the edge of your seat. There’s lots of hot sex both private and public but there’s no sharing and no cheating between the couple. The author created a new world for these raiders that defied the norms of polite society. Even so, I loved the possessive streak that made Tyr adamant he would not share Helena with anyone.

I usually don’t like the dystopian romances but this book completely took me captive. The writing, plot, suspense, characters and hot sex scenes took this book to the number one spot for me so far this year. I was captivated by all of the secondary characters, especially the king, Wulf, and look forward to reading many more books in this series.

If you love hot, alpha, possessive men, Vikings, strong women, good writing and a story that grabs you and won’t let go, you should definitely read this book.

This book was difficult to get into. But once you get past the beginning and you get used to the authors writing style, the plot seems to somewhat suck you in. Unfortunately, I did not care for this book. Although the males in the book could easily be described as domineering alphas. They could also be described as brooding and chauvinistic. This book revolves around an interesting dilemma and is full of sexual content. In a bdsm sense, I would describe the sexual scenes as master/salve. Not really my thing. And because of this dynamic, I couldn't get into the book. The book ended up irritating me more with how weak the heroine was and what she put up with. But I think if you were into more of the slave/master dynamic, then you would enjoy this book. It just wasn't for me.

EDGE OF OBSESSION is an nicely paced take on a post apocalyptic world that has been overcome by flood waters. I enjoyed Crane's spin on the idea of a great storm changing the landscape of the world and how society adjusts. Raiders are a futuristic version of Viking-like groups of men who pillage and take what they need to survive and thrive by shear strength. The fact that they are seafaring is also a nice twist. Society has taken a huge leap backwards in this new world. Women have little to no value past their fertility and society is strictly divided between the wealthy and the poor. Superstitions and violence are the basis for society as a whole. Modern society before the storms is obsolete and has reverted back to fiefdoms. Those with wealth or the strength to take what they want are the unchecked rulers. The means of survival with technology has been wrested from the average person and horded by the people in charge.

There is plenty of erotic scenes in EDGE OF OBSESSION that eventually leads to romance as well. Although, that is an enjoyable part of the story, Crane's world building is what will have me looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

This book gets one and a half stars and that might be a little generous. After all, I wasn't even half way done with it when I started skimming it.

In my update I mentioned that the female lead's back story was problematic, that never really changed. Some questions were answered but really the whole idea of it taking 100 years and three generations to turn the power/internet back on? Oh and never mind that the power plants and server hubs managed to survive the apocalyptic storm that demolished the planet and the subsequent 100 years of storms and neglect relatively unscathed.

Sad to say that wasn't the only thing about this story that drove me crazy. The female lead herself was an obnoxious character. She vacillated between moronic, antagonistic and spineless. You would think that given those characteristic she could at least have been consistent in her personality. You would, however, be wrong. Internal monologging and obsessive introspection was a good two thirds of the book and her motivation and thought pattern was so wildly unhinged and contradictory that I ended up hoping this would be the odd romance where the girl dies. Sadly, she didn't.

The aforementioned internal monologs and introspection was so bad/repetitive that I found myself jumping forward to the dialog bits. It made reading a page super quick. Like 15 seconds quick. I would have finished it sooner but it was so tedious that I found myself distracted by organizing my goodreads shelves and adding books from recommended lists I had bookmarked over the last years. Because that was more interesting.

The only reason this got any stars was because the premise was original (or at least new to me) and the male lead was such a textbook trope that I still liked him. It is pretty hard to screw up the standards.

I had such high hopes for this book and the series. A dystopian romance novel just seemed like such a great concept. And apparently the author is so invested in it she had a map of the new north America made. One of the romance review sites I read had such glowing review for the most recent book in the series, I thought it was a safe bet book. Now I feel like the saddest, most reluctant masochist because I'm going to read the next book in the series. Cross your fingers.

Edge of Obsession is one thrilling, intense, and intoxicating read. It is unlike any dystopian novel that I’ve read. I have to tell you, it has been quiet some time since I’ve read something in this genre and I could not have been more pleased with Edge of Obsession. Edge of Obsession is everything that you could want in an adult dystopian novel. It is captivating and intriguing. It is sexy and intense. It is gritty and raw. This is the type of book that will pull you in from the very beginning and not let you go. It will have you on the edge of your seat, holding your breath, waiting to see what will happen next.

Edge of Obsession is my first read by this author and I can already tell you that it will not be my last. This book is so unique and so thrilling. I just loved it all. It had a interesting and intriguing story-line. The world that was created was utterly fascinating and demanded that you find out more about it. The characters were intense and sexy and the men were total alphas. This book has some absolutely HOT and I mean HOT moments that may make you blush. Just thought I would warn you that there is some serious hotness!! Edge of Obsession isn’t just filled with sexy good times, but it is also filled with action, drama and lots of good twists and turns. I honestly can’t say enough good things about this book. I don’t know if there will more books in this series, but I definitely would not object to reading more books in this world that this author has created. I definitely would recommend checking this book out.

Hmmm spoilers ahead

This felt a bit like the Beyond series and was probably just as filthy(the good kind)
The world as we know it ended when great storms came, the seas rose and many people died. In the aftermath kings rose up and took over certain areas and laws were put in place.Tyr is a raider, which is exactly as it sounds. He's all about fighting,f**king and brotherhood.
Helena is determined to carry out her family's mission of restoring light to everyone and not have it at the whims of the rich. When Tyr raids the compound she's at she challenges him enough that he takes her with him.
Then sex, like lots of it. The raiders have it, The King has it, the camp girls (think club whores but kinder)have it and Tyr and Helena have it anywhere and everywhere.
Helena is feisty and mouths off to Tyr regularly but she melts for him most other times but I still enjoyed their squabbles.
Bad guys chase after Helena, Tyr goes warrior on them, he claims her.....The end
One part of the story that boggled my mind was the concept by the Westlanders of winter marriages ,where apparently females who reach the age of fertility spend the winter with a "husband" until the get pregnant. In the summer they're free to do as they please unless there is a pregnancy (they're there to repopulate the world)
I'll have to do a reread but if it's a new husband for every winter I may need to leave well enough alone lol.
All in all this was a very, very dirty romp with a LOYAL hero,a strongish h,an interesting plot and secondary characters I'd love to read about. On to the next!

Imagine a dystopian Viking world with a hot, bearded war chief who's sexy and demanding and majorly possessive and here's your book.

Typically, dystopian themes aren't my thing. However, it worked for me here. Tyr, war chief of one of the Raider clans, is out for revenge against the scum who killed his blood brother. He and his clan brothers raid this compound in what use to be Atlanta and he ends up taking a smart mouthed woman named Helena captive. Helena pushes his buttons while tempting him. He's not sure if he wants to have sex with her or punish her, or punish her while having sex (you get the picture, right? LOL) Anyway, Helena has a secret. Tyr and his clan realize she is keeping something from them, but they're not sure what it is. Eventually, one of the clan's greatest enemies is there on their secluded island demanding Helena go with him because of her secret. I won't tell you what happens, but it's so good!

I really liked this and I'm wondering if there will be a second book because I want to know if Helena and the Raiders ever complete the mission that was Helena's secret. And Gunnar and Maud's story would be interesting to read.

So, it took me a bit to get into the story. If you don't get hooked right away, hang in there and you will be pleasantly surprised...especially if you like a little dirty in your life lol Tyr and Helena get off to a rocky start and this is most certainly a male dominated society but our Helena is rebellious, just as we like our heroines. :) Good read.

Just couldn't do it. DNF'd at 34% Mark.

The world building & scene set ups, seen through the heroine's POV, are boring me. Too lengthy & wordy but still not really saying much that matters. I much prefer to be in the hero's head. Though we do get his POV, it's never quite as long as her's. Her thoughts are on CONSTANT repeat.

Yeah, I really disliked this.

*I disliked the stupid h who was lusting after the raider H straight away. She kept going on about having this important mission but she kind of forgot it after first paragraph till about 77% of the book. I mean it was in her mind but she was too busy having sex. Like ofcourse.. I think I just hate bbs more when they are supposed to have this "world saving" mission.

* oh, nearly forgot..h also BEGGED H to fuck her. Cause ofcourse, why wouldn't she.

* I disliked the H. I didn't like how his thoughts pretty much revolve only about these raider brotherhood as most important thing ( like, it's dystopian world and they are kinda like future vikings), fights and his confusion and lust on h. And there is nothing else to it. It all seemed very one dimensional. I also never once believed h was truly his priority.

* His thought process towards h was also frustrating.. I just didn't like being in his head.

*the camp girls illustrated as these awesome girls who just like sex and get f*cked by all/any guys. But they are very important and kind and they take care of this brotherhood. But other than that they are like a bunch of Mary Sue's. Just no.

* the orgies.. like I they all have sex in front of each other, whichever okay is part of this world setup.. But I think there were as much descriptive sex for other characters as was for H and h. It didn't add anything to their story! Oh apart from to say that h was a voyeur and was getting excited and was almost coming from just watching everyone else.🤷‍♀️ and I mean that started straight after her kidnapping, so she forgot that she should have been scared.

* H didn't want to share h.. but didn't mind everyone seeing her with him.. and she was way too blasé about it. Out of nowhere. She thought to herself that giving him a bj infront of everyone was one the best days in HER life. 🤯

* She announced she trusted him and loved him first, at the end of the book.. But..like... How? When? Why?There wasn't that many meaningful conversations between them. Did I miss this relationship development?
Oh and she also said she dreamed about a raider when she was a little girl and maybe she loved him from the BEGINNING.. like since the kidnapping, the first chapter. So basically she fell in love with H straight away, when he kidnapped her. Right. Cool, cool, cool, cool [ and I say this in Jake Peralta's voice].

*I am gonna give this 2 stars cause the writing itself flowed nicely and some of 🔥 was well written.. but damn, that last scene where she has to "ask for help" 🥲. It is addressed in what can be considered satisfactory manner to others but it annoyed me so much that I was tempted to just give this one star. Buuut, I feel like that will be a bit unfair, as THERE are way worse books out there..

Maybe it's more of a "it's a me thing" but this book just didn't work for me.

I normally love dystopian books, however this one turned me off from the start. I hated how women were talked about. Sure I get in a world like this women become chattel, but it doesn't mean that I have to like it. This book ended up being a huge, it's me not you thing. In the end this one just wasn't for me.
