A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.
Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.
Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.
Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.
Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.
Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.
He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.
A book that was a deal on the kindle. This book was from an Author I’ve heard of but never read. I’m so glad that I opted to read this novel. It was a gripping suspense, well wrote story that gripped me from the start. Lots of twists and turns I loved. Definitely an author who I would read again. All words are my own.
Wolverine and Beast are on Avengers side? Wth? What happened to the X-Men? Why Cyclops said that less than 200 mutants are left alive? Where are the others? Why are Cyclops, Emma Frost, Colossus, Magneto, Namor, and Hope live at Utopia Island while Wolverine still live at St. Xavier School? Too much questions *sigh*
Here’s my theory to answer those quetions : The event in House of M affect this AVX comic series. When Scarlett Witch was going mad killing almost all mutants in the world with her power, it only left a few mutants. Some mutants still live in St. Xavier and some moved to Utopia Island.
And the most important thing is, am I the only one who realized that Cap's uniform has some kind of scale? Srsly Cap.
It opens a little similar to Infinity Gauntlet with an intergalactic being (Silver Surfer/Nova) crashing to earth warning of a great threat coming (Thanos/Phoenix). But it sets up the conflict. Scott is rather defencive, sensitive and hot headed wanting to use the phoenix while keeping Hope in the dark, foolishly, and Cap wanting to stop the phoenix with the X-Men and protect Hope. But Scott says no. Cool. Romita Jr's art has to have the funniest gaff in comics with this issue too with Cap doing a double point at Scott. It sticks out like a sore thumb.
Seorang pengantar pesan. Satu kekuatan kosmis menuju Bumi. Satu kekuatan besar dan dua sudut pandang. Dua kepentingan.
Didn't even mean to take so long reading this to be honest. Good book! Love Emma anyway and the threat of Phoenix coming back with the constant fear of Wanda? Love it! Can't stand Cyclops though.

I attempted to read the series before, but fell off of it. Giving it another try now that I'm getting more into comics. I only have general knowledge of the events leading up to this, but wanted specifically to see the Phoenix Five. So these are more my thoughts than a true review.
I know the X-Men are technically the villains in this story, but the Avengers really do everything they can to make me hate them. Cyclops has always been a tactician and him getting compared to Magneto here feels apt. The ending feels exciting since it kicks off the true goal of the comic, actually pitting the Avengers against the X-Men.
Although this book does serve well toward introducing us to the concept of why the Avengers and the X-men would end up battling against each other, it does very little toward getting us interested in the series at hand. Conversely, it actually gets us interested about the number of series we are given smaller pieces of in order to tell this tale. We watch as the Scarlet Witch takes away all the mutant powers, we see the devastation of Utopia by a Sentinel, we are able to watch as Magneto finds his son is working against him...but we don't get any form of resolution on any of these stories, as they are all merely tangential to the main one being told. Unfortunately, the tangential stories are much more interesting...at least by the end of this volume. If you're looking for a sampler pack of some of the more interesting storylines to come out of the Avengers and X-men books over the past few years, this is a great option for you, if you're looking for any sort of complete storytelling experience, you'll find this one lacking.
The stage is set: the Phoenix is heading to earth. The Mutants see it as a chance for rebirth. The Avengers see destruction. As the first part of a twelve part story, this issue does a good job at setting up what the story will be about. Cyclops and Captain America disagree on the purpose of the return of the Phoenix, which leads to Avengers fighting X-men. You don't have to wait long to see Avengers fighting X-men, which is one of the things I like about this comic.
Art wise, John Romita Jr is a little inconsistent. Some of his panels look great, while others look rushed. The panel of Thor in particular, were he is creating a whirl-cloud using his hammer, doesn't work. But then, there's the panel were Cyclops blasts Cap, which is great.
It's a decent first issue, and enough to hook people.
Good. Not great. Nice to see how the conflict comes to head. Great to see the Phoenix coming back into action. I think my hm-haw feeling is because I was spoiled by the dynamism of Bendis's characterizations of the Avengers in New Avengers. There so bland here, but, then again, this is not a comic for wonderfully portrayed characters so much as for some epic battling.
Woah, Scott. Let's simmer down nah. No need to get your panties in such a twist, although, I do understand why you're doing it. Savior of your people and all that.
Also, if you're going to put Gambit and Rogue on a cover, at least have the courtesy to include them in the issue. Also, didn't see Iceman, Juggernaut or Angel in this issue. *grumblegrumble*
Not half as epic as it sounds. You would think some fighting would have occurred in Round 1 already, but no...it's basically stuff that should have been put in Round 0. It is my opinion that Marvel picked the wrong team for this. Both the writing and art are terribly unimpressive. Not looking to continue this.
This was a really amazing comic book. I loved the fact that they gave the characters a little background bio, which was cool. This comic had me intrigued the whole time. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
I thought this had good conflict and good motivation. The question I had was, why now? Why did Captain America all of the sudden realize that Phoenix was a threat?
