ANDY WEIR built a career as a software engineer until the success of his first published novel, THE MARTIAN, allowed him to live out his dream of writing fulltime. He is a lifelong space nerd and a devoted hobbyist of subjects such as relativistic physics, orbital mechanics, and the history of manned spaceflight. He also mixes a mean cocktail. He lives in California. Andy’s next book, ARTEMIS, is available now.
In this short fanfic, the criminal mastermind Professor James Moriarty has to prove his innocence in a murder case. The culprit wasn't that unexpected, but we have a cameo of young Inspector Lestrade (here still a constable) and a wink at a young chemical student who worked on the case (I guess young Holmes himself)...thus a higher rating.
Short 14-page fanfiction on James Moriarity. I liked it but not as much as the previous story. One could guess the ending, James Moriarty keeping up to his evil genius nature does a good job of deduction & convincing to get out of a tight spot. Although what I really enjoyed was the mention of a young chemistry student & constable Lestrade.
Me wants more!! Unfortunately Andy mentioned in his site that he's not sure he'll continue and this was about a decade ago. So we'll have to be satisfied with the clever ending in this one.
P.S: Look out for a soon-to-be-famous Chemistry student's cameo.
The best of the three Moriarty-stories. I guessed the main part (I have read too many of Andy Weir's stories not to), but the plot and explanation was still good and consistent.
