On the first day of the school year, Brother and Sister Bear are nervous and excited. But with tons of new stuff to learn and explore, by the closing bell they can hardly wait for day two! There's something for everyone in this quintessential back-to-school book from Stan, Jan, and Mike Berenstain.
Stan and Jan Berenstain (often called The Berenstains) were American writers and illustrators best known for creating the children's book series the Berenstain Bears. Their son Mike Berenstain joined them as a creative team in the late 1980s.
Brother and sister bear are going back to school after summer ended. It is the first day for all of the students and the teachers too. Ms. Polly's just starting now too. There is the Too-Tall gang headed towards everyone and knocking them down, but they get taken to the office. As they walk into the school nothing has changed, brother and sister are in different grades. Sisters teacher is Teacher Jane. She says she has eyes on the back of her head. Brothers in third grade where everything gets harder. At the end of the day, the bell rings and they all get on the buses to go home. Before they went to bed they both thought of all of the things they could do, then fell asleep.
I gave this book 5 stars, I thought that it was engaging and had great illustrations. Many kids could relate to this story because they all have the first day of school to look forward to after every summer.
The wholesomeness doesn't deteriorate with the Berenstain Bears. I would have loved an enhanced storyline to suit the title. People of all ages need joyous persuasion to go back to school. I always have love for the Berenstain Bears.
Hi everyone! It's Ariel here, and I’m excited to tell you about a fun book called "The Berenstain Bears Go Back to School" by Stan, Jan, and Mike Berenstain.
This book is all about Brother and Sister Bear on their first day of school. Just like a lot of kids, they feel nervous and excited. But once they get to school, there are so many new things to learn and explore! By the end of the day, they are already looking forward to going back for day two.
I really liked reading this book because it shows that even though starting school can be a little scary, it can also be really fun. Brother and Sister Bear meet new friends, learn new things, and have a great time. The illustrations are bright and colorful, making the story come alive.
My favorite part was when Brother and Sister Bear realized how much they liked their new teachers and classes. It made me feel excited about going back to school too! If you’re starting school soon or just love stories about school adventures, you’ll definitely enjoy this book.
"The Berenstain Bears Go Back to School" is a perfect read for anyone who is getting ready for the new school year. It shows that school can be a fun place to learn and make new friends.
I love that the book talks about bears up to third grade. Usually, these kind of titles cover only kindergarten, but this one is appropriate up to third grade so that older students can identify and make connections with the characters.
I read this book aloud to my children. They love The Berenstain Bears!
This is actually the perfect book to read at this time of year! Some kids are reluctant for the summer to end, and The Berenstain Bears Go Back to School reminds kids of what they have to look forward to when they return!
The story is told in rhyming verse. Unlike most of the other books in the Berenstain Bears series, this book is oversize (11 in x 8.5 in) which is a nice bonus. As always, the illustrations are bright and cheery - a real treat to look at!
This would make a great "back to school" book!
MY RATING: 4 stars!! It was really good, and I would recommend it!
This book is fantastic! I love how it makes school seem so exciting and how Brother and Sister bear are daydreaming all about school and thinking that they might even be teachers. It encourages students to feel positively about school and what they learn. It was an easy read and the vocabulary was appropriate. It was very descriptive which draws the reader in even more and makes them feel like they're a part of the story. At school they started their day with the Pledge of Allegiance, and that is a good message to get across. It also sends a message of peace by how well Brother and Sister bear get along. I think it's fitting for a classroom full of anxious children.
I picked this story out at the library because I wanted a book that would warm up our girls to the idea of going back to school after a lengthy spring break. Although this book focuses on starting a new school year in the Fall, it's still great for generating some discussion about the activities during the school day and the excitement of going back. Classic Berenstain Bears rhyming narrative, illustrations, and homey feel to the story.
I love the Berenstain Bears, and have since my childhood. We checked out this book from the library to help my daughter, who watches the show, get ready for kindergarten. I was very disappointed. The rhymes felt forced, and there really wasn't a story, just loosely connected verses. I especially missed the moral that I remember being present in all the books I read in my childhood. My 5 year old thought it was ok, though.
I always enjoy The Berenstain Bears books. Unique rhyming that is simple enough to understand for all ages. This would be a great book to read on the first day of school and they could do an assignment where they write about their first day of school or something. The children listening to the book can have a discussion on similarities or differences they had to the bears on their first day of school.
This book is fun to read aloud because of the rhyming. Sometimes a couple of the rhymes seem forced and unnatural but overall it was okay. This story is a great one right as summer is ending because it will get kids excited to go back to school. It covers all of the fun things school has to offer and reminds kids how important and fun learning is and that there is so much for them to know. I would definitely use this as a book to school book.
Great new installment of the Berenstain Bears. I loved seeing the old rhyming patterns come back. This book is a bit long and wordy, but Kaity (4.5) still really enjoyed seeing all the fun illustrations. I also liked how this back to school book didn't talk about being nervous to go back to school (except for one of the teachers). I get a bit tired of that since Kaity isn't nervous to start Kindergarten this fall until she reads a book that tells her to be.
This got some bad reviews, so I didn;t buy as many copies as I may have, but it's not so bad. it's a little bland, and there are certainly better 1st-day-of-school books out there. but its serviceable and will certainly be checked out by those kids who burn through all the popular character books.
When I heard Hazel chanting, "No more pencils, no more books, no more teachers dirty looks." I thought she was listening to Twisted Sister. Nope, turns out it is the Berenstain Bears.
Great first day of school book and could extend to have students write about their first day of school experience. Introducing text-to-self connections.
