Soooooo funny! A dead witch is getting married, and her daughter Jill has to be in two places at once... her dead mum's wedding and her living adopted sister's all day birthday party. Seeing her go from one scene to the other and back again is hilarious. The only character in the whole series that I don't really like is the sister, Kathy. She is sooooo self-centered and violates every rule about sisterhood imaginable... This series is a real scream, in that it's sooooo funny. Can't wait for the next book in the series to come out!

Jill is taking on a lot of responsibilities in this one. She has her sister's birthday to go to on the exact same day as her dead mother's wedding. Yes, I'm afraid you did read that correctly, and it is beyond funny to read about. Also, she has several cases to solve, a talking cat, and a talking dog, and this one ends in a little bit of a cliffhanger.
I really thought this one was very good. I enjoyed Jill's character, and how she is changing in each book. I also really enjoyed the mysteries in this one, and I can't wait for more.

I'm hooked on this series, and each book has been getting better. The world building has improved, Jill has gotten a bit more character, her sister has become less annoying (though still annoying), and the mysteries are still entertaining. I think Abbott's hitting her stride.
The cliffhanger at the end made me want the next book right away.
Also, I have now realized there is any entire mystery subgenre of cozy witch mysteries. Who knew?

As much as I am enjoying this series... the whole “time doesn’t progress in the human world when you’re in the witch world” really should have fixed the wedding/birthday dilemma.

Continues to deliver :-)
Highly entertaining, the author seems to enjoy torturing her main character into embarrassing or funny situations. Loving it! Plots (or investigations in this case) are solid too. Characters development is getting quite interesting now that we get to know more about the Followers and what they call TDO (no spoilers!)

These books are a fun and fast read. I really enjoy them when I need to relax and unwind.

Kathy (non-witch) is Jill's adoptive sister so right there Jill has a problem. She has to keep the fact that she's a witch secret from Kathy and that's not going to be easy. Jill has to learn her spells and, fortunately, her ghost mother will help her. Her grandmother is more like a drill sergeant in her approach to teaching, unfortunately.
Winky is up to no good (which is normal for that cat) and has ever gotten into theft. Then there's the need to catch a rogue vampire, some money needs to be found, threats are made and Jill's 'romantic' left takes a hit when she finds out about a certain man's background.
There's a heck of a lot of pressure on Jill and there's a question of whether or not she can continue to function with so many things going on at the same time.
I like the series so far (except for the cat and her grandmother.)

This was a strong 3rd book. I've enjoyed this one the most out of the series so far. There were less mentions of her aversion to mixed biscuits and other OCD tendencies and more focus on the story which was nice. The story it weaved was enjoyable and entertaining and I'm enjoying the characters.

Book three is yet another wonderful cozy mystery.
Terrific fun as expected. Someone needs to tell Winky that chocolate is poisonous to cats and dogs.

The Protagonist: Jill Gooder is a private investigator with a difference; she is a level II witch in training. Jill, is feisty and fun. She works at being a detective and solving cases by application of logic, magic of course and a little luck. The cases consist of the natural and supernatural, or the paid and unpaid, but they are always a laugh.
The Plot: Jill is hired to find out who is responsible for the hit and run death of an old lady, just before she changed her will. That's a paid job. On the other hand, she has to trace Norman Reeves who ran away with the holiday fund, find her late mother's wedding ring, find Wonky the cat's missing feline friend and be a target for a vampire. All for free. No wonder the accountant is being called in.
Jill's business is busy, so is her social life, for a change. She has a hen night to attend and her dead mother's ghost wedding at the same time as her adoptive sister's birthday celebrations. Two places at once? Good thing she is a witch. There is never a dull moment. Well nearly never. Winky, the one-eyed cat, is annoying and Barry the dog is tedious. That said, Barry's scene was entertaining in this book.
Witch Is When Everything Went Crazy is another entertaining, well-written story by Adele Abbott. Fun and fluffy it's an enjoyable read. Recommended.

The book is okay, I'm hoping hey get better as the series goes on. There are a few items that bother me about the book. Time stands still in candlefield so why was she so worked up about her sisters birthday being the same day as the wedding, no one in the whole time knows zero about the dark one? Also, how does she have money for everything and she is barely working? I'm still going to continue the series I like it enough to continue I just hope some items are explained more. There are a few scenes that made me chuckle.

Slow to start, lots of characters, improved greatly by this third book
I really enjoyed learning all the characters in the course of reading the first two books. Our heroine is becoming more comfortable with her double life. I'm fairly sure the main, consistent characters are established so the story will be more fun. On to #4.

Well, I guess I'm officially hooked. I didn't love book 3 as much as the first two. Jill had (IMO) too many cases going on at once and I was confusing the suspects. However, I enjoy the banter she has with Maxwell, love the one eyed cat and can't wait to see what Grandma does next. This series passes the time while I read something more serious.

This series is so much fun! So far, even the annoying characters (Grandma and Mrs V) are at least amusing. I'm glad to see that Jill and Detective Jack Maxwell are moving from an adversarial to more of a dating relationship.

Yet another very enjoyable read. In this one, Jill continues to try to balance her life between Candlefield (witch) and Washbridge (regular life). In this story, she has 4 cases-- and only one is paying! Someone hires her because an older woman was killed in a hit and run and they don't know who did it. The woman had planned to leave a good portion of her money to a dog show instead of her kids, so some suspect it may have been one of the kids. You find out that it was actually partially her doctor's fault. He had come to visit her and was upset with her because she (a judge in the dog show) favored some breeds and discriminated against some breeds, which included the breed his dog was. He made her upset and she ran into the street. As with all the stories, it feels like Jill just all of a sudden had an "Aha!" moment and figured it out, but thats okay- these are kind of cheesy and predictable reads so its to be expected.
The other cases involve her secretary Mrs V, her cat Winky, and her sister. Mrs. V is all of a sudden dropping stitches and wants to know why someone has cursed her or what has been done to her needles. The cat (Winky) wants to know where his girlfriend cat went because she's not talking to him anymore. Her sister and her family were going to go on a family vacation but the man handling the money disappeared. She solves all of those cases and everyone is happy.
Like the others, this book ends ona cliff hanger. Daze (another witch who works in the mortal world) tells Jill she arrested Drake (her witch boyfriend) 3 years ago... BUM BUM BUM!
Also in this book, Jill has to be in 2 places at once- her moms wedding in Candlefield and her sister's birthday in Washbridge. She manages but its very exhausting!!

Witch is crazy every once in a month!
I really enjoyed the twin sisters and their real down to earth arguments. My friends twin sons decided to leave the nest and rent an apartment separately away from each other and away from mom and dad. They both told us they got a fabulous apartment. I laughed so hard when they found that they had rented apartments exactly across the pool from each other. I have been laughing about this human just finding out she is a witch learning magic and the insane mistakes she makes. Her grandmother is a pill but I can't wait til Jill gets up to speed and gives a little just a little back to grandma for all the drama grandma caused Jill. Her ghost mother has been a bit of a shock and a bit sad yet sweet they are communicating finally after mom gave her up for adoption. Her sister from her adopted family sure is a pain in Jill's life. Always doing the things her sister Jill finds boring or annoying ex cetera. My sisters do a few annoying things but Jill's sister seems to q over the top almost border line cruel. So glad I have the sisters that I have and not Jills. I like the cop Maxwell although if he's just a human and not a bit magical that will be just sad. I don't particularly care for Drake the wizard trying to date Jill. I suspect he is the dark one. I mean really he meets Jill in the park with his dog. The second time he was at the park he had no dog. Who goes to the park with out your dog?I do recommend ages 13 to 113 to read and enjoy the magic and the mysteries in this book and the other two in this series. When we are young we have no problem believing in magic. At around 13 I started to lose my belief in magic. But at 55 I never really stopped believing in magic and love completely. The strength of these novels mostly aren't the cases but the quirky characters. Jill is a mixture between Charley Davidson and Monk, while some of her OCD behavior can be annoying, her comments can be really fun. The storylines involving Winky, who uses semaphore to romance the cat across the street, Barry, on his best behavior to win at a dog show, and grandma, who wants to accompany the girls on a hen night or her marketing schemes for wool businesses, can be really fun. Personally, I think the twins are annoying and the beanie stories have to stop, because they make Kathy seem like a selfish and above all cruel person.
The cases were about a dog show and missing holiday money. The supernatural one was about a vampire using a dating service to find victims. Actually, they were way better than the last book but it would be better if she focused on one or one of each (real world and supernatural) and then put more into the foreground. As it is they completely disappear into the chaos of her life. E.g. every time the girlfriend of the guy who absconded with the holiday money was, I had to stop and remember who that is.
For a cozy, the cases are too superficial, for a comedy the humor could be cranked up. As for a romance, while her relationship with Maxwell is starting to blossom, the bowling and ice skating was fun, he is barely in the books. Also, he is probably the worst cop/detective on the face of the earth, since he doesn't investigate at all. The fact that they are not on an equal footing makes him uninteresting as a love interest. Drake is even blender, besides the fact that I think he works for the dark one (a storyline that is barely mentioned).

Another great book in the series! Absolutely LOVE the tone and humor in this world.
Witch Is When Everything Went Crazy follows Jill Gooder, a P.I. and also a witch! Each book in the series catches you up pretty quickly but I recommend reading the previous books anyhow because you'd be missing out otherwise. Jill balances her life as a human and her life as a witch, and all the quirky happenings in between the many mysteries she has to solve. It can get a bit hectic when your human family can't know you're a witch, but then your very witchy Grandmother opens a yarn/wool shop just down the street from your Detective Agency. That and people keep catching you talking to your cat and dog, does that cat have an eyepatch?

It can get a bit hectic when your human family can't know you're a witch, but then your very witchy Grandmother opens a yarn/wool shop just down the street from your Detective Agency. That and people keep catching you talking to your cat and dog, does that cat have an eyepatch?

Great if you HATE everything
This could be a fun little series, but the protagonist, Jill, is annoying. She HATES everything, and is a bit shitty about it. Community theater? Hates. Circus (sans animals)? Hates. More than one type of cookie in a cookie jar? Hates. People dunking cookies? Hates. Her niece and nephew who she claims to adore? Hates. Anybody touching anything she owns? Hates. Jill just seems to be anti-social and unpleasant.
And that isn't even getting into the "time in the outside world doesn't move" when She is in the other world. Is it only for her? Because it seems to move for everyone else who is in the other world. It makes no sense. Of course, I could let that bit of illogic pass if Jill wasn't so irritating.

Final thoughts
Nice mystery. No romance yet but there are slow burners starting between detective and another man who has a dog. Not sure yet which one I want pretty sure not Drake and the detective instead.

Ends on a Cliffhanger!
I have been reading and enjoying this series; this is #3. It is light and fun. However, this one ends on a cliffhanger, something I cannot stand in any book. It just stops; sort of like the author suddenly realized she had reached her pre-planned word count. I refuse to read authors that do that to their readers. It seems like authors who disrespect their readers like that just want to force them to buy the next book. Greedy and extremely annoying. So I am done with Adele Abbot and the whole series. Plenty of authors out there who do respect their readers.

This one had several mysteries for the PI to solve. Some on the human side, some on the witch side. As Jill is learning her craft you are learning more about her family, especially her grandmother. At present some of the auxiliary characters are one sided, and not very likable. I am hoping that the cousins ‘grow-up’ and act more mature than 12 year olds. I do like the main character, and the budding romance with the police officer. And, the mysteries are not grandiose murders that have bodies stacking up in every corner. The talking cat is mellowing a bit, too, so I think I will continue to the next.

There were parts of this book I enjoyed, but I was really annoyed about the wedding and sister's birthday debacle. it didn't make any sense or fit in with the story, as I understood it regarding time. It just felt like the author was trying to make a fun story, but in order to do so she had to go outside of the construct that she created. or that the main character was just really dumb. I guess I just don't understand why she didn't go to the witch village and stop time in the real world, and do the entire wedding and then go enjoy her sister's birthday. It was weird and didn't quite make sense to me.

I like this series, I do. It's a fun, light read and something I enjoy between heaver novels. The characters of Jill, Mrs V, Winky and Jack are all great and I enjoy reading about them.
I do have some issues that throw me out of the story though. The books are set in Britain, and yet there are many of what I'd call 'Americanisms' in them (I have no knowledge of the authors nationality), such as word usage 'make a quick buck', and references to going shooting like it was an every day thing when firearm licences are actually extremely difficult to get etc. They don't sit right and can be a distraction. Still, I enjoy the series over all, and look forward to the next one.

I read as many as I could stand
I read 3 books in this series and wow. I mean after the 1st one I pushed... bc most first books aren’t the best but I should have stopped. If you are a person that can over look huge holes in stories than you can stomach this one. You would also need to over look a character who is a huge push over. Everyone basically walks all over her. This was almost like an Amanda M. Lee book, but not. Avery would never let these ppl get away with even 1/4 of what Jill does. Jill sucks...
