James Morgan never really believed in love. That is, until he laid eyes on Deborah Walker at the local soda fountain. He surprises himself by inviting her out for an impromptu night on the town, and she shocks him even more by agreeing. As the night progresses, the two share their past histories and secret dreams, and James realizes that she is the perfect woman for him. The only problem is that he ships off to Korea the next morning. Fulfilling his duty is non-negotiable to James, even if fighting for his country will ultimately break both of their hearts.
Deborah promises to wait for him, but two years is a long time to put her life on hold, especially for a man she only knew for one day. When Rip Rockwell returns from the war and James does not, Rip proposes marriage to Deborah. She agrees and they build a beautiful life together until his death fifty years later. Through it all, though, she can never quite forget her first love. She retires to Abeline, expecting to live out the rest of her days in peace. So imagine her surprise when James Morgan moves in next door…
Melissa Storm is a New York Times and multiple USA Today bestselling author of Women’s Fiction, Inspirational Romance, and Cozy Mysteries.
Despite an intense, lifelong desire to tell stories for a living, Melissa was “too pragmatic” to choose English as a major in college. Instead, she obtained her master’s degree in Sociology & Survey Methodology—then went straight back to slinging words a year after graduation anyway.
She loves books so much, in fact, that she married fellow author Falcon Storm. Between the two of them, there are always plenty of imaginative, awe-inspiring stories to share. Melissa and Falcon also run a number of book-related businesses together, including LitRing, Sweet Promise Press, Novel Publicity, Your Author Engine, and the Author Site.
When she's not reading, writing, or child-rearing, Melissa spends time relaxing at her home in the Michigan woods, where she is kept company by a seemingly unending quantity of dogs and two very demanding Maine Coon rescues. She also writes under the names of Molly Fitz and Mila Riggs.
Sometimes a short simple read is exactly what's needed. If you want something to restore your faith in love, grab this short story and let it bring a smile to your face.
Deborah and James have a beautiful night walking and talking. They never expect to see each other again.
Deborah sits on her front porch in the morning drinking tea and saying hello to neighbors when her newest neighbor comes.
I enjoyed this short simple read very much and am looking forward to reading the other short stories that go with it.
I received the book from the publishing house for an honest review. A short story that is literally read in half an hour but has everything you want in a love story.
Well I kept looking and looking to see if this was just a sample, but nope just a short story I believe. I think this was a free download and just makes you want more.
This is the first book in the Cupid’s Bow series by Melissa Storm. We meet James and Deborah on the day before James is leaving to fight in the war. Deborah walks into the malt shop and sits right next to James. The two hit it off immediately and wind up spending the evening together. The next day James leaves. The story then skips forward several decades and the two have lead long and happy lives. Just not together. Isn’t fate a funny thing?
The characters in this story were definitely from another era. They seemed extremely naive to the ways of the world today. Deborah is still in high school so that is understandable and I’m not sure how old James is but his thoughts and behaviors would suggest he’s not much older.
I loved the idea of this story so much. Love at first sight between two teenagers who are separated by circumstance and don’t see each other again until they are at the peak of their lives. It is a great story line.
However, I think it would have made a better book if it had been longer. The book itself skips around a lot. Because there are no dates to go by you have to guess at the time period you are in, and it gets confusing when all of a sudden in the next chapter you are now in the present time and you don’t know what or who the character is talking about. For example, You only know James and Deborah in the beginning and then it skips forward and she is talking about a man named Rip and you have no idea who he is. As you read a little more you find out that several decades have passed and Rip was her husband, but you get very little background into them. It was just confusing and you never really got much chance to get to know the characters or fall in love with them, and I really wanted to fall in love with them.
For a short story it was okay. I think dates added to the chapters would have made it easier to follow. I haven’t read any of the other books in the series though so maybe their story is continued elsewhere. It would be nice to get more details into who they are and how their lives went during those decades they were separated.
A great start to a multi-generational saga! When I Fall in Love is the story of James Morgan, an airman who is getting shipped out to Korea in twenty-four hours. He's a skeptic when it comes to love, that is until he meets Deborah. It's at that moment that he believes in love at first sight. They spend an amazing night of wholesome fun together, sharing hopes for the future. His dream girl promises to wait for him to return home from the war so they can build on those dreams... but it isn't meant to be. A few weeks after deploying, James is reported MIA and presumed dead. Deborah moves on, marrying a Korean war veteran and building a life of fifty years of marriage with him. After her husband's death, she moves to Texas where she discovers that she's not the only one moving into the neighborhood... The very man who never had a chance to experience the full extent of her love is her next door neighbor. James Morgan is alive and back in her world.
This is a very short story... only about 25 pages in length, but it is a sweet and entertaining read. The next books in the series are continuations of Deborah and James' lives apart from each other.
A short, heartwarming short story of fate, love and second chances. A wonderful quick read that introduces the reader to a new series by Melissa Storm. With characters the reader falls in love with so quickly that by the end of the short story the reader is already anxious to start the next book in the series.
Well written and engaging, a definite must read before you continue the series, which I am sure will prove to be even more wonderful and lighthearted and enjoyable.
Kudos to a new author. Definitely one to keep your eye on...and to keep up with her books as they are released. If this piece is any representation, Melissa Storm is one of those special up and coming authors to definitely follow on Amazon and continue to read as each book in each of her series is released.
Enjoyable, fun, faced paced and a great introduction to some wonderful characters and stories that are already captivating in description. Enjoy...and definitely give it, and the next books in the series, a definite read.
This book starts out with James Morgan and Deborah Walker. The night before James leaves for service he meets Deborah and they spend the evening together. Even though they just met they believed they had a future. Then she believes James was killed in the service and she moves on marrying Rip Rockwell and after 50 years he passes away and moves into a retirement village and then a new neighbor moves in and it turned out to be James. This story was a short read, but it was good. There wasn't much about James and Deborah's story but, I am hoping to read more in the next book. I loved this short story. Looking forward to reading book 2.
Korean War time. I love 'war stories' and the loves that have been left behind to think and pray for the one who has been deployed. When it's right, it's right! It makes you think about the question of "Do you ever get over your first true love?" In this case, no. Right-place-at-the-right-time meeting. God gives us who we need, when we need them. Lovely story. Made me see in my mind's eye "The Kiss" after World War II. I jumped right into My Heart Belongs Only to You when I finished this book. It's a book that you will want to read in one sitting.
I have been provided with a copy of When I Fall in Love by the author for an impartial review. This is the first book in the Cupid’s Bow: The First Generation series and what a way to start a series and to introduce these characters. This is the first book that I have read by this author and it will certainly not be the last. This book was just such an easy read that just didn’t let you go until you turned the last page. It was a truly beautiful story.
I believe this will be a great story in its entirety. Not only is it extremely short, but it is definitely a teaser, as well. It is just long enough to leave you wanting more. I really prefer to sit down and read a book, instead of having it abruptly interrupted. What I have seen so far of this author, I really like, but I just don't care for having a story broken up into so many short stories.
James and Deborah are such gosh darn nice people that you can't help but root for them from the very beginning...which is a good thing because their lives pass in the proverbial blink of an eye! You've caught me, Mel Storm, hook, line, and sinker. Ready to start the next book RIGHT NOW...
This is book #1 of the Cupids Bow series. While each book can be read independently, they are best read in order as they have a continuing story line. It is a love found then love lost as well as a second chance romance. This book is set during the Korean war and is a sweet romance. Very well done.
That was so quick! This really has some good bones, but it was so short... I mean, I know it's a short story, but it easily could have been turned into a more substantial novella or even a full novel. I wish there was more!
3 stars, because it went too quickly and I couldn't get to know the characters better.
Real short novel about a second chance at love. Great for a quick read on a lunch break or winding down before bed. No sex, no swearing... Just a short and sweet love story.
The story grabs you quick, but then it's the end. I was left wanting more. It was more like a summary of what the story was is and going to be. I recommend to anyone wanting a quick clean read.
I’ll be honest and say that I do not like purchasing a book and finding out it’s a short story. A short story is not a book. It’s not a novella either.
Perhaps if this story played out in book form, it would have been a lot better.
The ending was unrealistic and felt very forced. It’s not memorable and there isn’t any time to even come to know, or like, the characters.
MY BOOK RATINGS:
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟The book was PHENOMENAL! It caused me to be impacted, challenged, and made me think. The book resonated with me and I didn’t want to leave the characters. It blew me out of the water so much that I told everyone and their 🦮 to read it! 🌟🌟🌟🌟I loved the book! Excellent work! I will read more of their books, without a doubt, and recommend the author to others. 🌟🌟🌟 I liked the book but I wasn’t as immersed as much as I wanted to be. I will likely try other books by this author to see if different books resonate with me more. Sometimes it’s simply personal taste, subject matter, or other circumstances. 🌟 🌟 I struggled to read the book and I didn’t enjoy one (or more) of the following: the storyline, the quality or style of writing, or the characters didn’t resonate with me. I likely wouldn’t ever read the author again. 🌟 I didn’t care for it at all but managed to skim through it, or finish, but barely. Definitely not for me.
When I Fall in Love by Melissa Storm was another great read by the author. I loved James and Deborah’s story. James didn’t believe in love until he met Deborah. They agree to a night on the town and have a perfect time until reality sets in. James is supposed to ship off to Korea the next morning to fight for his country. Deborah promises to wait for him. James didn’t come home from the war and when Rip did he proposed to Deborah. They spent fifty years together before his death and to her surprise James moves in next door. I loved reading this book and can’t wait to read more by Melissa Storm.
WHEN I FALL IN LOVE is the first book in the Cupid’s Bow, First Generation series.
It is sweet...but very short.
Historical, clean romance set during 50s and today.
I loved it. I can't wait to read more in the first generation series.
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
