Sometimes you need to make a change in life, and Laney Spencer was about to do just that. She was a talented artist and had been encouraged to move to San Francisco to pursue her dreams. Days after her little sister graduated high school the two packed their truck and headed south to California.
Laney was ready for a new start and assumed everything would go perfectly. She assumed the transition would be painless. When her assumptions proved wrong, all she could do was trust that God's plans were better than her own... especially when His plans included finding the man of her dreams.

*I received and ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*
So far having very conflicted feelings about this book. The writing seems not connected. The flow isn't that good. Like my reviews (my reviews are also all over the place normally) :P but the story doesn't seem to be that bad.
*Edit*
Ok. I'm gonna stick with what I wrote before. Normally the feelings I have when I'm starting a book definitely changes when I finish it but with this book it wasn't like that. I did not like this one. I mean through out the book Laney was just saying how sick she was. It was like a bad Mills & Boons book for me. The story didn't make sense for me by the end. I'm sure it was hard for the author t come up with an original story but I just cannot like this one. Even for a Christian themed book I'm not so sure I liked it. I mean she could have shown a bit more of that nature rather than trying to keep the catholic-theme minimum. I actually didn't know it was a catholic book till i came here to write the review. Hopefully her writing gets better.
After looking at the negative reviews, I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this one, but I actually liked it quite a bit.
A lot of the criticisms are accurate - esp the fact that there is a rape scene & there should have been a warning in the description. It's actually not that graphic or violent *for a rape scene*, so if you're not sensitive & it's not a trigger for you, then you won't find it remarkable for what it is (I've read graphic rape scenes that left me disturbed for weeks afterwards & I avoid crap like that like the plague now - this one doesn't come even remotely close). And thankfully, it doesn't make the story "gritty" or significantly detract from the fairytale feel of the romance.
Yes, the girls should have reported the assault, but it was actually pretty plausible, particularly in light of their age & upbringing not to mention Laney stabbing the guy, that they were too upset, scared and naive to do so.
Yes, the romantic interest is kind of an insta-love story and doesn't seem deep enough for marriage yet, but it's part of the fairytale - and imo, it's worse to have the drawn out stories that feel like you're plowing thru filler that exists just to stall the happily-ever-after.
And yes, the author has some spelling issues. The one that I keep seeing repeatedly in her books that's driving me nuts is that she doesn't seem to realize that "text" can be used as a noun OR a verb, and if you use it as a verb in the past tense, it is "TEXTED" - yes, you need to add "-ed" to it. So I'd appreciate it if she invested in an editor or got some volunteer beta readers or something, but I'm not a grammar nazi so I don't let stuff like that keep me from enjoying the story (there's a valid reason that English teachers grade spelling & grammar separately from content).
Anyway, so it's mostly a fluff story, but it's sweet and gives you the happily-ever-after feels that are a great remedy for the daily grind!
I usually like this author for her quick, cute reads. If I’m being fair, I didn’t even finish this book. The first few pages were good but then I could not get into it. Especially when the sister is found being taken advantage of, I was done. It wasn’t engaging enough to keep me interested
Laney Spencer was stuck in a rut and needed to make a change, She was a talented artist and had been encouraged to move to San Francisco to pursue her dreams.
This book was an easy and fast read, before I knew it the book was ending, I really liked how Laney and her sister Lexi rose about the hand that had been dealt them, I liked the way Zack used his money for good and to help those in need. This book was a quick clean read. a
This was a little different from Ms. James’s other stories I’ve read....and she never ceases to amaze me with her story telling. Something of a Storm had a bit of violence which was unusual in her storylines, but it was done as tastefully as it could be done. Then the illness gave the story a bit more interest and a lot of information about antibiotics and the dangers. Thank you for that. Loved her characters....loved this book.
I felt discouraged and not pleased by this St. James book. She usually writes optimistically and shows her main characters as undaunted by adversity. The heroine 's hopelessness , even after seeking God's help several times, was still in utter agony. To me, it became depressing. I will find some St. James book with her normal outlook.
A nice, clean and enjoyable story you don't want to end. The story holds your attention and keeps you turning the pages. The characters are engaging, intriguing and you enjoy getting to know them. Their romance is sweet and realistic and you enjoy following them on their journey to HEA.

Love Laney's story!! It really hit home for me. Her medical stuff, and subsequently, what she learned from it was so inspiring. I pray that anyone going through pain and anguish with medical conditions will read this story and see how God uses our trials to refine us. Great job, Brooke! Keep the stories coming!! Love, Love, Love them all!
I loved this story and I hated to see it end. The characters were awesome and I loved the little bit of suspense. The romance was super sweet. I have to admit that I fell in love with Zach.
The book is a good, and enjoyable sweet inspirational romance read. The story has a good story line. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry.

This was my first read from this author. I absolutely loved the first person point of view of the story. This is a deal breaker for me. It was an okay read.

This story has a unique storyline that I didn't see coming. I liked the characters. I would have liked more from the relationship as most of the story focused on her illness and the relationship felt like it jumped fast. Overall, worth the read.
Brooke St. James has done it again. Another story with three dimensional characters that make the impossible seem possible. All the elements of a good romance.
This was a goodreads first reads win. I was looking forward to this book based on the description, but didn't get much from it. Laney moves to San Francisco with her sister and even a horrible event doesn't stop her from leaving behind her alcoholic mother for a new start. She moved to pursue her talent in working with glass to make windows, but gets sick right after meeting her new mentor. Months and months of sickness follow. Her body apparently gets poisoned from the meds the doctors prescribed her. Laney meets Zach, who she believes could never be interested in her, and they hang out while she's sick. Well, Zach is a millionaire and he randomly pays for people's groceries once a week after Laney mentions someone else doing the same thing one time. Without much more to the story or characters, Zach asks Laney to marry him. I was hoping for a bit more than she's sick one day and he's in love with her the next.
This was a really interesting book and I found it to be a bit different from some of the other contemporary Christian romances I've read recently. Laney and her sister move to San Francisco shortly after her sister graduates high school. Laney is creative and they are trying to get a fresh start from living with their alcoholic mother. Unfortunately they both encounter some trials and tribulations during the move. Laney is the most affected in this book and its Zack and his family that eventually help her pull through. This is a great story of love, faith, and growth through trials that feels very realistic. I thought it was well written, easy to read, and kept me engaged the entire time.
This was a very interesting romance novel and I really enjoyed Brooke's style of writing.
Laney is trying to make a life for herself and look out for her little sister. She goes through some pretty incredible trials and ends up finding God and her soul mate in the midst of it.
The story seemed realistic to me and I liked how it was simultaneously a good, clean romance novel and presented a fresh perspective on how our timing and God's timing aren't always the same.
I just finished another book by Brooke St. James! She's a great author! This particular book was hard to read at first because of the extent of the drama but as the love story developed I was glad I held on! Super lovely!
It was a good story. I hate that it had so much of Laney's sickness in it. I liked that Laney was protective other sister, Lexie, and I'm glad that Laney found someone to love her no matter what. Zack sounds like a super guy, and I really loved the part when they went to grocery store and helped so many people. I've dreamed of being able to do that!!!!
This story was written so well, I could not put it down. I am so looking forward to reading more books by Brooke St James. It's been awhile since I have read a story that was so well written.
