Mickey Meets the Giant is an adaptation of the story of "The Valiant Little Tailor" starring Mickey Mouse. Although it is not a book adaptation of the Mickey cartoon "Brave Little Tailor", Gustav, the giant from that short, is the antagonist of the story. Learn how Mickey scares the giant enough to run away and never come back, and why the thankful people of the town of Cedar Grove declare Mickey their hero. Color illustrations; 48 pp.

The story is great–-I'm a sucker for retellings of classic folk tales, and I definitely support exposing children to these stories that are the foundations of so much modern literature.
The illustrations are lovely and colorful. As expected of a children's book, it's quite possible to understand the story just by looking at the pictures.
Mickey Meets the Giant is a great, fun book for kids.
A giant terrorizes a small town and Mickey the Woodchopper is here to save the day. Not sure why, no one will listen to him and they're kind of jerks for sending a really scared guy to fight the giant. Anyway, Mickey of course can save the day and restore the town to its original form. This was just okay. I've read better David v Goliath story adaptations.
The part about Mickey being small and the giant being big reminded me of the Bible (David and Goliath). And a stone does play a role in both stories, just not in the same way. Mickey uses tasks to outsmart the giant.
This book is a spin on Jack on the Beanstalk. It could be used in a lesson comparing and contrasting the two books in order to see similarities and differences. A venn diagram or similar diagram could be used in order to compare and contrast.
I read this book because my husband at the time remembered it from when he was a child. It's apparently the only book he remembers reading as a child, but whatever. It's pretty unremarkable as a story, and reminds me a lot of the Paper Bag Princess. Also, that giant is a stupid jerk.
My son really liked this book. He loves Mickey and the book shows him how to be helpful and right wrongs that were done to the town. Its a really cute book.
